What could a hybrid say about his life in the Rogue lands? Most had struggled and met hardships, but life for Kagiso had be rather dull of an existence. His mother had been a quiet lioness, but firm when it came to wandering away from her, the fear in her eyes almost paranoia, unexpressed. And Kagiso sensed it, even in youth, and had kept well within his limitations with ease. He had no more curiosity of the outside world than a cricket, always sticking to what he knew and what he was taught. When the time came he would grow, he separated from his mother easily, knowing he'd been raised right and in the most capable of hands. But, as children tend to do, he had left her to find his own way in the world. It was in leaving her that his days seemed to slip by silently, the rising sun and chirp of birds his alarm in the morning, and the song of the critters sent him to bed; nothing more or less could excite him like that simple sound. But this time, as midday hit, the sun bore down rather harshly. He'd been away from mother for too long, yet not nearly long enough, and the heat was enough to make even the hybrid hunt for shade, to escape. But no matter where he looked, the trees were too thin to offer a sufficient supply, and his mouth seemed drier with each passing second. If only he could find a nice pond, or water source....

Noir-Doré had made herself comfortable under a rock outcropping that just happened to be big enough for a lion or two to hide under. The little stream she had found made a waterfall over half of this little ledge. It was just big enough to be refreshing, but small enough to not attract those blasted water lizards. The lioness hated those things with a passion, but then she figured everyone did. One could not love something that tried to eat one's face, especially not when trying to get a drink was interrupted for this face eating attempt. She had left her mother and siblings some time ago. She did not really care if she saw them again or not. They were family regardless, but she did not feel a need to see them or know what became of them. Her mother had told her of a place she was headed for to check on rumors she had heard of a pride there. The pride sounded interesting to Noir, but she likely would not head that way herself anytime soon. She wanted to experience a bit more before she went and settled down anywhere. The shade and cool spray of the water were enough of a comfort from the heat of the day that the lioness managed to drift off for a little bit. It did not last long, but when she did open her eyes, she caught sight of a rather odd looking male coming toward her little hiding spot. He had a mane like a male lion, but the body was not shaped right... a hybrid? He must be. Noir wondered if a hybrid would make a good toy. It was not a lion and could not sire cubs to her, so that made it less than her, did it not? It made perfect sense in her mind. She would wait for it to come closer and then play with it a bit to see if this theory was sound.

Collapse was imminent; Kagiso felt it in his bones. But the sight of something sparkling brought his clouded mind into a state of lunacy as he blinked, staring at the clear water in disbelief. He looked around to the right and left, seeing if there was anything that would bring on this amazing hallucination before stepping towards it, each step faster than the one before until finally he was touching it, the cold catching him off-guard. He jumped in, the smile on his face as innocent as the mind that bore it. Water! He drank deep and wallowed in it, the sigh escaping him of pure bliss. Life was good, and he knew it; he HAD to be blessed by some higher power to be alive for this instance. Had he properly took in is surroundings, he might have noticed the lioness lurking a stone's throw away. But he was far too busy enjoying himself to really care, and that would most likely be his downfall one day.

Noir watched the hybrid with lazy interest as he approached the water but did not seem to notice her presence in the slightest. The fact that he missed her completely did not speak highly for his intelligence to the dark lioness. That combined with his childish splashing and antics only comfirmed her idea that this creature was less than she. Even a lion acting like that would have made her think it unworthy of respect, so this hybrid stood no chance. She scoffed quietly from her lounging spot, and decided she might as well go say hello. Noir rose and left the little alcove under the mini waterfall. The lioness padded silently over to the male. It was not that she wished to sneak up on him. Her habit was simply to always walk as if being heard was a bad thing. Of course, usually that was the case when one lived in the Rogue lands. Even if she was a predator and not prey, the lioness had learned that it was best not to be heard by others. There were things that would harm a full grown lion and most of them were not at all pleasant to think on. Noir stopped just short of walking into the water. "Are you enjoying yourself?" She waited to see if the male would notice her after she spoke or not. She still planned to see if she could make him into a toy. She just had a long drawn out way of getting to her goals at times and others got dragged along on them more often than not. She wondered what would have happened to this male if there had been water lizards waiting. He probably would have been lunch and she could not have done anything with him.

In an instant, the hybrid had gone from childish to insecure, quickly turning to face the lioness who spoke to him and nearly tossing a wave of water at her in the process. Had he the proper mindset, he would have shook himself off and approached her for an introduction. As it was, he was greedily enjoying the cool water, looking up at her with a sparkle in his gaze. "Actually, I am. Very much so. This was juuust what I needed." He let out a purr at the last syllable, finally finding the strength to take himself out of the water and up onto the dry ground, letting the cold settle on his fur rather than shake it off and heat up again.
"I'm not intruding on you, am I?" He tilted his head, watching her for a reaction. He was overflowing with innocence, his eyes reflecting no emotion towards the lioness other than a pure, prying curiosity.

Noir shook her head at the hybrid. Wow, he was simpleminded. She made no move to dodge the wave of water that came crashing against her legs. In this heat, it did not bother her in the least to have wet paws. Perhaps the heat had addled the male's brain, but the dark lioness, just assumed he was that much less than herself and let it at that. She would not make excuses for him even in her own mind. He certainly seemed very happy as he spoke to her. A smart creature would have been cautious with someone that just sneaked up on them, but no, he seemed to think it was normal from the look of it. The lioness shrugged her shoulders at the male's question and moved into nice mode for the moment. She wanted to use him as a toy, so that meant she had to be nice to him at least until he trusted her. "Of course you are not intruding. I am Noir-Doré, might I ask your name?" IF her mother could see how nice Noir could play at, the lioness would have been proud of how well her daughter could act at something she really didn't feel. It was a talent that ran in the family.

"Noir-Doré? That's an unusual name... I like it."
He was an oblivious male by nature, and he was as relaxed around this female as much as he would be around his own mother. A tail flick later, and he was nodding his head politely to her.
"My name is Kagiso. You can shorten that however you'd like, I've no idea what to do with it myself."
She seems nice enough, he thought to himself, finding it easy to strike up a conversation with the complete stranger. Had his mother warned him of strangers? Yes. But her paranoia would not be his, oh no sir. He was going to make friends, and maybe this lady would be the first. He gave her a once-over, being overly obvious about it, before he frowned.
"Isn't it awfully hot out? You have a dark coat, and if the heat was murder on me..." He drifted off, leaving the sentence unfinished, but easily estimated. Who wouldn't worry about their fellow lion in such scorching weather?

Noir gave an inward sigh at just how trusting this male seemed. She thought him lesser than herself already and yet she still found it oh so sad that he was so willing to trust a stranger at face value. It should at least make it all the easier for her to gain his complete trust and use him. She was glad of such ease to her plans. She could use an easy lay or a lot of them really. Maybe she would use him as a punching bag when she got mad too... that would be a nice bit of stress relief when she needed it. There was so much potential to this male. "Kagiso... Kagi, then." He had offered for her to shorten it, so Noir did so. And was he not just oh so sweet asking if she was hot. She smiled at him. "It is hot, I found the ledge over there to hide under for a while. It is big enough for two... and the water falling down in front of me was putting cool spray back to me." It had been quite a nice spot too. The sun beating down on her, did bother Noir, but she could ignore it for the moment. She was not a weak lioness by any means. She would ignore the heat for as long as it suited her. "Are you always so trusting of strangers?" Noir made the question sound very concerned but kind. She gave herself a mental pat on the back for how convincing her tone of voice was. She actually sounded like she CARED. Fat chance of that, but hey, if she could make him think it, great! "It can be very dangerous out here, you know.. there are a lot of not so nice lions and other creatures about." She watched him drip with some amusement. His sogginess would make him better to cuddle in this weather at least.

"Well, I figure I haven't had much to go on, as far as strangers come..." He mused, shrugging a shoulder at the lioness, "I've got no reason NOT to trust you, do I?" Kagiso glanced in the direction that she'd come from, or so he'd assumed, but quickly looked back to her with a smile, "Well, if it suited you just fine, that's good enough for me. Wouldn't want you ending up as buzzard food." Of course, had she any intention to flirt, he'd most likely not catch on to it until it was too late. Kagiso was as simple as simple could get, and since first impressions had been made, he already found himself liking the lioness wholeheartedly. Or at least, as much as one friend could like another in a short amount of time. Maybe this was why his mother had been so defensive of him in his youth...

Noir nodded to the male and kept that concern in her voice. "We could travel together... and I could offer to protect you since you do not have the experience with strangers... I would not want any harm to come to you." Not at anyone else's paws anyway. "I doubt any old buzzard would want to eat me." She chuckled in true mirth at that, but not for the reasons that one might thing. She had once hunted and ate a buzzard, so to her it was really funny to think one of them might eat HER one day. "Why don't you join me under that little ledge and cool off? You look like you have traveled a long way and being close to water and under shade will do you much good." Noir was only really suggesting it because it would benefit her in the long run if he thought she cared about him and his wellfare. Some day he would figure out that she didn't care, but by that point she would probably be tired of him anyway. She was that heartless with those not 'worthy' in her mind. Noir padded toward the little waterfall again and motioned for the male to follow. "Just under here is perfect for staying out of the sun and being cool." She slide back under the ledge herself and waited to see if the male would join her. They would be in close enough quarters under here, they could have a lot of fun. She had a suspicion that the male probably had no experience with females either, so she was really going to have fun making a toy out of him.

Travel together? The idea of having company would have Kagiso normally jumping out of his fur with excitement. He, however, managed to reign in this glee for the moment. "I see no harm in cooling off, and it IS better than standing out here in the open..." He spoke aloud, though the sentence was towards himself and not the other. And, of course, he slid himself right up against the female, though with enough space so that the both of them could breathe and appreciate the cool spray that lashed up against them. He sighed contently, already cooler now that he was out of the direct sun, and still very much a sopping wet mess. But he appreciated the kindness the lioness had granted him, and he would relish it.
