Soft music of a flute played throughout the auditorium, slow at first much like those soft melodies about a long lost love. It seem sad at first, almost like a story of old.

In the center of the stage, Melinda sat with her eyes closed as she played her flute. She had no care in the world, she was just lost within the soft notes of the music she was creating. As far as she knew, she was alone. Able to just allow herself to be free to do as she pleased.

As her fingers moved, she stood slowly. Her light brown skirt brushed her dark brown legging as she takes a few steps away from the chair. After a couple of minutes the music slowly came to an end. Opening her eyes, she glance down at her flute as she chuckles.

It was perfect, the melody was perfect.

Moving back over to the chair she was sitting at in the first place she bends down to pull out her notebook from her messenger bag. Rolling up the sleeves to her periwinkle sweater, she flips the notebook open to a blank page.

Writing down the notes as quickly as she could, not to forget it, she sets the pen down once more. Looking over the music sheet she created for herself, she lifts her flute to her lips once more and starts to play the notes on the sheet.

Once again, her music fills the auditorium as she plays.

Paris took two steps into the auditorium through one of the back doors before he realized he’d interrupted someone.

He thought he’d heard music from the hallway, but he’d wrongly assumed one of his classmates might have already been there practicing to some music he’d never heard before. He’d opened the door sometime after the music had come to an end, and was on his way down the aisle when it began again. Glancing up, Paris noticed the girl on the stage to discover she clearly wasn’t a dancer.

Well, she could be, he supposed. There wasn’t anything to stop a dancer from playing an instrument, but he’d never seen her before and he prided himself on at least knowing all the faces he passed in the Destiny City University School of Dance, so he could only assume that she wasn’t, in fact, a dancer. Maybe she was in the music department? Or just liked playing as a hobby. Either of those seemed more likely, since… she was rather good as far as he could tell.

For a second Paris considered turning around and leaving her be. She might not like to be interrupted, or maybe she didn’t want any witnesses, but if that was the case she shouldn’t have been playing in a school auditorium to begin with. He’d wanted to get some extra practice in, in any case, and though he could have just as easily used one of the studios, he liked to use the auditorium outside of rehearsals, too.

Shrugging to himself, Paris made his way down the remainder of the aisle and dropped his dance bag into one of the seats. He was already in his tights and leotard (pale pink and black respectively), and had a pair of short burgundy knitted shorts overtop, with gray leg-warmers and a matching sweater, and his hair piled up on top of his head. The only thing he was missing was his shoes, but he sat down quickly enough to slip off his flats and exchange them for the dirty looking pointe shoes he pulled out of his bag.

He tried to be quiet about it lest he disturb the girl too badly, though sitting front row center was probably pretty conspicuous.

As her melody came to an end, Melinda opens her eyes slowly. Quickly picking up her pen, she scribbles out a few of the notes she written, only to rewrite a few in. With a small sigh, she seem satisfied with what she chosen as far as the notes. Pulling her bag open, she sets her notebook and the music sheet back into it once more.

Standing, Melinda glance out towards the audiences only to see someone sitting in one of the chairs. Jaw dropping a little, she actually turns a little more redder then normal as she coughs in embarrassment "I'm so sorry, I didn't think anyone was actually going to be coming in here today. Please if I'm stopping you from doing something important, by all means the stage is yours." turning away, she bends down to gather up her bag before setting her flute back in its case.

Snapping it shut, she turns back towards him as she gives him a weak smile. Her eyes happen to glance over his attire before she pauses. Wait he was a dancer? Something about that made her smile, mostly because dancers like musicians were a good judge in music.

Looking back up, she smiles as she carefully climbs down off the stage "This is going to sound very strange, but how long were you sitting there?" she was only curious because if he been there for awhile, she might be able to get some input from him.

Paris shrugged in the midst of tying his pointe shoes. “Not too long. Couple of seconds, maybe. Less than a minute, but I heard some out in the hallway, too,” he said.

Should he have not come in? Maybe turned around and let her be? Was it rude to just come in when someone else was obviously using the place? Probably, but it wasn’t like an auditorium on a college campus was all that private to begin with. Students came and went all the time. He even knew some people who had some of their more largely populated classes in here. As far as he was aware, the stage wasn’t off limits for student use when it wasn’t otherwise occupied, so it hadn’t seemed like such a big deal when he’d walked in.

Someone other than him could have just as easily wondered in, he supposed. He wouldn’t even be all that surprised if there were some people up in the balcony seats making out between classes or something classless like that.

“You don’t have to stop if you were busy,” he offered anyway, standing to his feet once he was done with his shoes. “I just come in here every once in a while to practice, but it’s not like you would have been in the way. I could have just worked around you.”

Or he could turn around and head to one of the studios if she wanted her privacy, but she didn’t seem too upset that she’d had an audience for a brief time, so it didn’t look like she’d be making that request.

Melinda shakes her head, as she smiles to him "I see, I was wonder if I could get your thoughts on what you did hear? I'm writing my own piece for my class, and sadly its kind of kicking me in the rear. So maybe an outsider view might be able to help me out more. In trade, I can offer you come music while you dance?" she looks at him rather sheepish, really hoping she didn't overstep herself in the request.

Holding her hand out towards him, she chews on her bottom lip "I'm so sorry, I made that request and you don't even know who I am. I'm Melinda, but everyone calls me Mel. Freshman here on campus, and hoping to one day become a great musician." it was a dream, something she was going to work for.

I'm so sorry for such a small post and taking so long hun, dealing with two sick babies now instead of one. I promise I will get to you as fast as I can. sad

“Oh,” Paris said.

He didn’t know how great of a judge of music he’d be. Well, he liked to think he was a decent enough judge, but his tastes were often different than those of most other people, and he couldn’t always determine the level of one’s talent simply by listening to them play their instrument of choice. Seeing as he couldn’t play any instruments himself—except for the guitar, but he had to admit he wasn’t very good—anyone who could manage one even marginally well seemed talented enough to him.

But of course, as a dancer, he heard music all the time—classical music in particular. He had an ear for it; he had to if he wanted to be successful at what he did, so perhaps he wouldn’t be quite as terrible as he might otherwise assume.

“Paris,” he introduced himself in turn. “Freshman, too. I’d like to say I’m going to be the world’s leading prima ballerina, but making it up to principal in any company would probably be an accomplishment enough, so I’ll settle for that if I can make it.”

His mouth twisted into a lopsided smile, almost like a bashful smirk. “I can give it a shot,” he agreed. “I thought you were pretty good, honestly. I mean, it didn’t sound bad. I don’t know that I’m much of a judge. But it was… danceable,” he tried. Was that even a good compliment, he wondered. “I wasn’t listening well enough to really feel it, but… from what I can remember from it… I can imagine movement.”

It's totally fine! Don't worry about it! Take your time! The babies are far more important! I hope they get better soon! <3

Melinda chews on her bottom lip for a moment as she listens to Paris. He did say it sounded like it could be danced to, so maybe she was on the right path. With a smile, she sets her bag back down as she nods "I might be pushing it, and if I am please tell me. But if I were to play it again for you, would you be willing to see if you could dance to it?" classical music was her life, and she wanted to create some of the most beautiful music in that genre if she could.

"You can have the whole stage, I'll sit on the stairs and play." she was hopeful, and who better then someone striving to be a Prima ballerina to dance to her piece. Not to mention, it was giving her a chance to meet other freshman since she was finding it hard to actually get out anymore.

Sunshine Alouette
Thank you, they are actually doing alot better now. Just had to finish doing last minute shopping.

“Um, sure, I guess,” Paris agreed.

He didn’t know if he should feel awkward or not. Part of him did a little, and he didn’t really have any idea why, though he figured it might have something to do with how little social interaction he’d been getting with people other than his boyfriend and his classmates—whom he didn’t always like—recently. It was something of a bad habit by this point, drawing away from everyone else and putting all of his focus into only a select few people or a select number of things, but that was simply what his life had become. He didn’t always have the time to expand his social circle as well as he might have in the past.

He began moving toward the stage, hopping up the steps with graceful ease. “Just let me warm up a bit!” he said, finding the proper amount of room on the stage before commencing his exercises.

“Have you been playing for very long?” he wondered. He supposed letting silence descend upon them now would make things even more awkward, and so he strove to establish that vein of small talk he never really thought was necessary when he was much more of a social butterfly than he’d become now. “I’ve never even touched a flute before,” he continued, lowering himself to the floor of the stage to stretch his legs out in a wide split.

Melinda nods as she follows him towards the stairs, only to pause instead of moving onto the stage. Taking a seat, she crossed her legs as she pulls her flute out once more. She felt bad or just asking out of no where, but she really did need someone else point of view on this little project she was working on. Looking the flute over, she picks up the cloth she kept within the case to give it a once over "I've been playing since I was six years old. So about thirteen years now." setting the flute down in her lap, she place the cloth once more back into the case.

"How long have you been dancing?" she never even thought of dancing in her life, as she saw it, she had two left feet. She thought back to the debutante ball, and had to cringe.

She watch him for a moment, and couldn't help but smirk as he went down into the splits, making her wonder if his exercises were anything like the one she did every morning.

“Since I could walk, really,” Paris responded, looking over to the girl with a smile.

Suffice it to say, he couldn’t remember a time in his life when he hadn’t danced. It was as big of a part of him as being a Senshi was—probably bigger, if he was honest with himself. Definitely more important in certain respects. If he couldn’t dance, he wouldn’t even know what to do with himself anymore, except maybe mope around and watch other dancers with envy.

He took his time stretching and warming up. He only rushed it when he needed to, and at the moment he didn’t think he really needed to. Once he was back on his feet he did a few simple moves to get the blood flowing before gingerly raising himself onto his toes.

“I guess I was about two or three when I started having formal lessons. Before that it was just me doing it because there was music playing and I liked to,” he said. “It wasn’t as time consuming back then, not until I started getting more serious about it and took pre-pointe classes. It’s different now, obviously.”

For a moment Paris paused, bent over, and then arched up into an arabesque. “So your music. You compose stuff on your own? Is this, like, for one of your classes or something you do for yourself?”

She honestly was envious of him being able to dance that well, her eyes watching his movement. Pulling her eyes away from him, in fear of being caught staring, she smiles as she looks down at her flute. She was slightly the same, as her mother had given her a toy flute when she was about four. She went everywhere with it, until finally she asked her mother if she could start taking lesson. The rest just fell into place.

"My professor told us we could either pick a piece or make up our own. I decided I wanted to see how well I could create my own, so I went for it. I won't lie, its not easy." she thought of all the hours she put into already, the couple nights she couldn't sleep cause she was so determine to get parts of this piece just perfect.

"Once I am able to perform this piece for my professor, I'll be happy." and it was true, the stress would be gone. And all she will do is sleep for a couple of days.

With a small chuckle to herself, she turns her eyes once more to Paris. At this point, she was waiting on him to tell her he was ready.

“Nothing that’s worth it ever is easy, it is?” Paris replied.

It was a sentiment he’d come to live by, one that continued to develop with each new hardship and each new result that stemmed from it. As it occurred the difficulty of it always seemed to be too much, and perhaps there was a period of time in which he took it for granted, but once it was over, when he could feel and see what all that struggle and hard work had brought about, he never found himself wishing it could have been easier.

He moved across the stage for a little while longer, finally spinning to a stop in the very center and adjusting his positioning as he turned his attention back to Mel.

“I’m ready when you are, I guess,” he told her, still marginally hesitant. It wasn’t that he didn’t have confidence in his abilities, it was just that most of the music he danced to was pre-recorded or, when played by an orchestra, something he’d heard many, many times before.

“I might be a little slow to start, but don’t worry about it. I just want to get a feel for it first.”

Melinda nods, as she picks up her flute. Setting her papers in front of her, she takes a slow breath in as she starts to play. It was soft at first, as she was almost worried about playing for him. After a few minutes, she starts to play a little louder as she picks up her tempo for a few minutes.

The music, although simple seem to move in pace. One minute it was slow, the next it was rather quick. Loud then soft, it seem to be as if she was trying to tell a story with her music. Maybe an love story, gone wrong, or an epic battle?

Either way, as she continues she starts to sway with her own melody.

Paris didn’t begin to dance right away. He took his time, as he’d said he would, closing his eyes to concentrate on the music and get a feel for the melody, which he hadn’t been able to hear appropriately before. He took a few graceful steps here, a few more there, trying to catch a rhythm, trying to find… something… some thought or feeling in the song, one he could attempt to translate into a dance.

Eventually he began to move with more purpose, letting his eyes open again so that he could keep track of where he was on the stage, though he was only partially aware of his surroundings.

It was like that a lot. It wasn’t that he forgot where he was, or didn’t see what lay before him—the stage or the audience, or in this case a student with a flute—but everything seemed somehow dimmer. He focused instead on the movement, on precision and grace, and the emotions he was trying to express throughout it all, or else the ones that came more naturally, as they often did.

He moved an arm, adjusted a leg, danced on his toes, his shoes making soft taps and swishes against the stage floor beneath the sound of the music. He wasn’t entirely sure what emotion Melody intended to invoke with her song, but to him it seemed somewhat forlorn—like love and loss, hope and despair, all mingling together in a single piece of music.

Towards the end of the playing, Melinda slows the music as she watch Paris dance. Her eyes watching each graceful move as she saw her song coming to life before her eyes. To say the least, it was amazing in her eyes, though even now she was sure there was a few small areas she needed to work on now that she was watching Paris dance.

But this was the whole point of asking if he was willing to dance. She had to see for herself how her music turned out.

Finally, as she finished the last section, she pulls her flute away from her mouth as she takes in a slow deep breath. Setting it down, she smiles towards Paris as she shakes her head "You are an amazing dancer. I can see why you have such passion for it." standing slowly, she arches her back for a moment before she sat back down.

"So please be brutal, how was the song honestly? Was there any areas in which you had a problem dancing to?" pulling the music sheet into her lap, she was already grabbing for a pen to make any corrections she would need.
