Sherry was a bit hesitant about knocking on that door. She didn't know the girl that lived in this room. Sure, she'd seen her around a few times, but Sherry recognized most hunters on sight. Just...not by name.

I've told you a thousand times. I am not made of endless energy. I have to relax from time to time. Sherry had designated today for just such activities.

The weapon only huffed in response. She had admitted before that running oneself into the ground was not a good thing, but she still got bored. At least, that was how Sherry interpreted it.

Sherry returned her focus to the door. She should just knock on it and get it over with. She knew that. But what if the girl didn't want to help her out? It was an odd request, after all. Sure, the guy in the kitchen had pointed her towards the red-headed girl named Ofelia, but would she actually want to help?

Only one way to find out. Sherry knocked on that door.

Ofelia was reading a book, which was probably the weirdest thing she could have ever been doing since most of the words ran together and she had no idea what many of them meant, but since Ami had given them to her in the infirmary the teen was bound and determined to get them all read correctly. She was also trying to memorize a few of the poems, for whatever that was worth, and it was a slow process that had her actually sleeping on the books most of the time rather than reading it.

Today was not one of the sleeping on the book days, and as Ofelia turned a page she happened to hear a knock at her door. No one had come to see her lately, not after her whole ordeal at the Thanksgiving dinner and the lab incident with Jake, so the teen raised an eyebrow and got up to see who it was. Maybe it was a random hunter asking her to do a task, whatever it would be, but she was surprised to open the door and find a smaller girl standing there. A blonde, someone she didn't know. . . but recognized as the golem Jake had drawn during the Princess event. Ahhh, so this was her.

Keeping a smile from playing on her lips, or at least a cruel and mocking smile, Ofelaia grinned and leaned against her doorframe. "Well howdy, what can Ah do fer ya?" It wasn't every day that a trainee came to her door for anything.

The door opened, and Sherry suddenly wished she had not knocked. Not that the red-head was threatening or anything, but Sherry really felt bad about bothering her.

Armagnac was growling. The ranting didn't stop there, but Sherry stopped listening. The weapon had a point, even if she hated to admit it.

"Hi, I'm Sherry. Um...the guys in the kitchen told me to talk to you. About baking advice." Might as well get right to it.

"Oh!" Ofelia's face lit up about a thousand shades of happiness at the mention of the words kitchen, baking, and advice. If Ofelia had maybe looked a little unhappy before it was all gone now, she was completely in smiles and appeared to be not unlike a child being praised for something. "Yup, ya've come ta the right person if yer lookin' fer advice or anythin' else on bakin' an' cookin'. Whatcha got planned that has ya seekin' out ol' Ofie?"

The teen stepped aside and motioned for the other girl to come in, if she wanted to. The room itself was bare and practically empty save for the comforts that Deus provided. Her desk had a few books scattered on it, so did her bed, but the whole room actually had a nice sent of. . .well, chocolate chip cookies. That probably came from the tin that was sitting on the desk, made fresh that morning from Ofelia's private and hidden stash of supplies.

The look of glee on the other girl's face wiped away all shreds of hesitation Sherry had left at that moment.

"Cookies," she stated, accepting the offer to enter the room. And it certainly seemed like she had been sent to the right person, judging from the scent. "I decided ages ago that I wanted to make cookies this Christmas, but I've never really done anything like that before." She shrugged. Cooking anything beyond super basic items was a step above her experience.

"I attempted a quick batch last week, but...something went wrong." Sherry laughed. The poor cookies had flattened out like pancakes, only flatter. She wasn't quite sure where she went wrong, and the folks in the kitchen had only laughed as they kicked her out. Well, and pointed her in Ofelia's direction.

"I ended up with flat, burnt...not cookies," her expression turned thoughtful as she realized she hadn't brought anything to write with. "You don't offer baking classes, do you?"

"Cookies, hmm? They're pretty easy ta make once ya get the hang'a it, an' Ah'm glad ta see yer still willin' ta try after a failed batch. Lord knows plenty'a people lose faith an' give up when sommin' goes wrong on the first try." The teen motioned for the new girl, whose name she hadn't asked yet because well Ofelia and names, to take a cookie from the tin if she'd like. There were plenty of them, she didn't need to eat them all herself, and she liked to share everything she made. The whole point of being a baker or chef was to share after all.

The mention of flat cookies had her thinking, maybe she hadn't used flour properly? There was no reason for cookies to go flat, she'd never had that happen to herself before (there had been many other things, but never flat) and it was something to look into. She would have been more than content to just think on that and go on that path when the new girl asked about baking classes. Ofelia crossed the small space she had made while walking about her room and sat on her bed, trying to not show how flipping excited she was to be asked about that. "Hmm, oh, yeah Ah do. Are ya interested in havin' me teach ya, izzat why yer askin'?"

Why else would someone ask but Ofelia was already focusing too hard on keeping her tone calm and her face from breaking with all the smiles she wanted to have.

"I've never been one for giving up." It might take her forever to do something, but she would do it, eventually. She didn't hesitate when it came to taking one of the offered cookies, though. They smelled heavenly. How long had it been since she'd had a decent cookie? Ages? Longer? She didn't know. She couldn't help but nibble on the thing as she watched Ofelia cross her room and climb onto her bed.

"If, if it's not too much trouble," she smiled again. "And wow. This cookie is amazing. Divine, I'd say." She meant it. To her recollection, it was the best cookie she'd ever had.

"But yes. I would love to have someone actually show me the basics when it comes to baking." Since, for some reason, she'd never been able to get them on her own.

"It's not too much trouble at all, Ah'm...really kinda happy ya came an' asked fer mah help. Ah love bakin', cookin' an' showin' people how ta do a mixture'a both. The best thing a person can do for themselves is ta be able ta eat a meal or snack they made wit' their own hands." It really was a feeling unlike something a lot of people could have, and seeing others eat something you made was up there too in terms of being amazing.

The teen's cheeks could only color more with happiness at the compliment over her cookies, and she couldn't help but add a bit of trying to buffer this newcomer's spirits up. "Ah'll teach ya how ta make jus' the same, so one day people are sayin' that 'bout yer cookies an' not jus' mine." Did that sound weird? It sounded weird in her head. Anyway, she moved along. "Were ya wantin' ta learn a little bit taday? Ah've got some time if ya do as well. . . .whatcha say yer name was?"

Sherry smiled and continued to nibble at that heavenly cookie. She nodded at Ofelia's words, soaking them up. It seemed like the folks from the kitchen couldn't have sent her to anyone better.

"I don't know if I'll ever make anything this amazing," she gave a small laugh. The cookie was delicious, and as far as Sherry was concerned, Ofelia was an expert. "Today works, if it's okay with you. I've got a bit of time," she was nodding enthusiastically. "Ah. Sherry, you can call me Sherry."

She thought for a moment, then added, "Is there anything you like to be called?"

"Um, Ofie works. Most people call me Ofie, ever since Ah came here, so Ofie works? Yer welcome ta really call me whatever ya want, Ah like nicknames. Clover calls me Dinah, which is pretty cool." Speaking about Before made her a little wistful for him, but then again so did stepping foot into the kitchens and everything else they enjoyed doing together. Maybe next time she had a chance she'd seek him out and say sorry.

Those were thoughts for another time though, Sherry was still somewhat putting herself down, and Ofelia refused to believe that there was such a thing as a bad cook or baker. Everyone could be amazing, it only took practice, and it was with that optimistic approach that she kept going every day. No matter what.

Every. Day.

When it came mention for the day, Ofelia got off her bed and nodded overly enthusiastically. She had plenty of time, or even if she didn't then she'd totally make time for baking, and she grinned at Sherry. "Com'on, Ah got all the time in the world taday. Ya can show me the steps ya did fer yer cookies an' maybe we'll f'gur out where along the way ya made a misstep?" Ofelia didn't call them mistakes - there were no mistakes in the kitchen.

Sayng 'mistake' made people nervous.

"Ofie then," Sherry nodded and smiled. "For now at least." Who knew, she might come up with a nickname for her new friend, too. She didn't know who Clover was, but she did wonder where the name Dinah came from. Though she didn't feel it was her place to ask.

"Really?!" Her face filled with joy as Ofie stood and told her they could start the lessons that very day. "Right now? Great! Um, thanks. I'll do my best." The rush of excitement and gratitude flustered the trainee a tiny bit.

Not to mention, she was a bit nervous. Starting something new was always a bit nerve-wracking.

"No no, yer're gonna do better than yer best. Yer gonna be awesome 'cause there's no way ya can be anythin' but. Not as long as Ah'm 'round, okay?" Ofelia wink-blinked (it's hard to wink with only one visible eye, it looks like a blink) and she motioned for Sherry to follow her out the door. She'd only just invited the girl in but if it was time to move then by gosh they'd move.

The kitchen in the dorm commons area would be their destination since Ofelia didn't want Sherry to have to run into the people from before, the ones who'd laughed at her baking. It would look bad for her to show up right away with Ofelia in tow, like she was trying to brag, so the redhead had some common sense to take her to an area not really populated for their first lesson.

When they got inside she quickly pulled her hair up, rolling the multiple braids she had on her head into one massive bun. She tied it off with some string from the counter, someone must have left it while opening a bag, and Ofelia turned and looked at Sherry. "So! What kind of cookies are we gonna make today, or was there sommin' else ya wanted ta give a try? Or maybe we can do many things, since once Ah'm in a kitchen Ah like bein' in here."

"Ok." Sherry agreed, finishing off the cookie. Better than her best?

Armagnac might not have liked the idea of baking, but she seemed to have found some lesson for Sherry to learn.

Sherry was quiet as she followed Ofie to the kitchen. The kitchen in the dorm was just as unfamiliar as any on the island, and it drudged up a small bit of nervousness within the trainee. Armagnac must have been right earlier. There was something wrong with Sherry today. Watching Ofelia walk around with the air of someone who knew what was going on helped a bit, though. If the red-head thought she could do it, then Sherry could do it. She just had to believe it.

"Well, um, I was thinking maybe sugar cookies? For the holidays and all." Last week her chocolate chip adventure had failed, and she wasn't quite ready (nor supplied) to try that one again. "Unless you think there might be something a bit...simpler?"

"Sugar cookies, hmm? They're easy 'nough ta do an' we can make several large batches, though a small one would be easy too." Portion control! "Ah've also got lots'a cute cookies cutters we can use too if ya dun wanna have 'em just be the typical round ones." Sherry had said she wanted sugar cookies 'for the holidays' so Ofelia sort of answered her own question. That meant they'd probably need to make frosting too, she wondered if they had any sprinkles, and once her hair was up and everything was ready Ofelia placed her hands on her hips. "So! We got several options - we can make peppermint stick ones, jus' plain ones we frost, an' anythin' else ya want."

The list of options she had in her brain ran miles and miles long but she really, really needed to make sure that they had everything they needed. A quick check was in order while Sherry thought of what she wanted, and the teen started opening cabinets and pulling things out. She also pushed a few things around in the fridge, they'd need space for the dough to harden, but since the portals had been closed for a while there wasn't much of a need for her to do so. Everything was practically empty and it was saddening for someone who liked to cook and eat. Eventually she'd need to do something like a calorie count to keep track of what she was eating but that was for later.

After getting everything out on the counter, cooking supplies and needed food ingredients too, she grinned at the blonde. "Thought'a sommin' yet? We're ready ta go any time ya are, an' Ah'm certain these are gonna be awesome when we're done." Ofelia's total abundance of enthusiasm and optimism was almost intoxicating....or annoying. Whichever one came first in her companion's mind would have to be what it was settled for. Personally she felt like a mix of awesome but that was totally just Ofelia.

Options?! Sherry knew there were options, but actually hearing Ofelia talk about them was...shocking. Sherry wasn't quite overwhelmed, but something near to it.

"Cookie cutters?" She'd almost forgotten about those. "If you don't mind, those would be great. And-" Sherry's mind was almost blown at the mention of types of sugar cookies. "Peppermint stick ones? I've never heard of those. I guess I was thinking just plain ones, but, um, what are your favorite?"

She smiled at Ofie. The sun trainee certainly knew her way around the kitchen, and her enthusiasm was catching. Sherry realized she really wanted this go well. This girl she had just met was taking time out of her day to help her, and Sherry sure as heck wanted to make sure Ofelia wouldn't regret the decision. The life trainee was going to do her best to make her teacher proud.

"I mean," she continued, "if you have a favorite we can do that, since you are helping me an all. Though, something simple might be best." Start with the basics, right?
