Alexandre had made a slow decent down the mountains over the past few days until he had finally reached the forest that was nested just below. It was his first time venturing out of the mountains, something he felt excited to experience for the first time. Although, he would be lying if he didn't admit he was a bit lonely. His family had moved on from the mountains, his parents time together was over. They had raised him and his brothers well and moved on with their lives. He had felt sad and lonely at first but then he had realized it was time for him to move on too as there was nothing left for him in that cave. At first he had made his way all across the mountains and found himself meeting all kinds of different soquili but he felt he needed more interactions with others and thus it had led him down the mountain to the forest where he now stood staring at the tree's.

He couldn't see them but he could hear the wind gently blowing the leaves on the ground so he figured they were tree's. They had a different smell from the one's in the mountains though so he wondered if it was a different kind of tree. "Hmm.. I'll have to get a closer look." He grinned as he made his way up to a tree and gently felt it's trunk with his wings. It certainly felt different from the tree's in the mountains. He could feel ridges everywhere he touched which lead him to the conclusion that it wasn't a birch tree. To bad he didn't have his mother here to explain to him what it was. Or even his father. They were very good about explaining things to him if he didn't know what they were already. Which was rare because as a colt when he began to notice he was going blind he began sneaking out to see everything the world had to offer. Which unfortunately was only the mountains. "Maybe I should have braved the world below." He said, shaking his mane a little. This was no time to get down! It just meant there was more wonder in the world then before.

User ImageAstraea spent most of her time alone. She had never really been around others much, seeing them at a distance mostly. When she did meet someone, she never knew quite what to say and often stayed silent. The strangers would leave and she would be alone again. Or they would attack and she would be forced to flee or defend herself. Either way, she always ended up in solitude.

It wasn't that Astraea didn't want to have friends. That she didn't want to know what it was like to have the kind of companionship that came with herds and family. But she didn't know how to respond, what was acceptable, and what was taboo. So she let her silences speak for her. Besides, if she had been worth spending time with, she wouldn't have been alone for as long as she could remember.

Astraea slowly made her way through the trees, looking for blackberry bushes, but often settling for pinecones for her lunch. She didn't even notice the stallion as she moved between the trees, until he spoke. Blinking she looked over. He seemed to be alone, so he must have been talking to her. But he was doing something strange to that tree.

Trying to puzzle out what he had said, if he was trying to ask her something, Astraea finally ventured a small and timid voice. "I'm sorry, I . . . I didn't hear you. . ." Her voice trails off. From her tone, one would expect her to be poised to run. Instead she is standing perfectly still, as though she is ready for anything and will not be moved.

Alexandre had heard very gentle footsteps off in the distance but figured it was just a foal of some kind that was out adventuring. Or maybe some type of animal. The last thing he would have guessed was a fully grown mare. Despite having heard her coming Alexandre paid no mind, certain that whoever it was had a destination that just happened to lead them close to him. However, when he heard the gentle voice come from the mare his head raised, his ears perked up and the stallion turned his head in her direction.

Of course Alexandre couldn't see how timid the mare was due to his inability to see but he could still hear and feel. "I was talking to myself.. The tree." His cheeks turned a little pink as he admitted this. "I'm new to these lands and found myself a little confused." Alexandre laughed gently, trying hard not to scare the mare off. It had been a long time since he had interacted with someone. He certainly didn't want to ruin this meeting before it even began. "I'm Alexandre." The young stallion added. His wings stretched out above him for a moment before they were folded neatly on his back once more.

Astraea watches the stallion as he speaks, assessing. She nods when he gives his name. Her face remains impassive, though her voice, still quiet, as though afraid of itself, "I'm Astraea. I . . . hello."

She was certain she was missing something. Surely there was something she should be saying or doing. Oh, yes. Belatedly, she smiles. It's a small thing that doesn't touch her eyes. But she tries, not knowing the other can not see it.

Still standing completely still, not so much as the shifting of a hoof or the swishing of a tail disrupts her. A very small breeze moves a few hairs in her mane, but that and blinking are all that touch the stillness.

"Astraea." He repeated. "It's a lovely name." Alexandre said with a firm nod and a grin. However, afterwards he found that it was very quiet and for a moment he wondered if she was there at all. He waited for her to say something but when nothing came he sighed. She had left. "Are you there? I didn't even hear you leave. . ." Alexandre mumbled loud enough for her to hear as he turned around, sadly the poor stallion ran himself right into the trunk of a tree after just a couple steps. "Ow." Alexandre said, not aware that she was even there still. Then again, there hadn't been any sounds coming from her and for someone who couldn't see, she might as well have disappeared into the air or never existed at all. Alexandre pondered the possibility of her being a spirit but quickly shook the idea from his head because he hadn't ever seen or heard a spirit before and knew it was unlikely to suddenly start.

Alexandre wobbled a little as he backed away from the tree, his wings outstretch to touch it and feel it's bark. "Guess I need to be more careful." He said to himself.

Astraea takes a half a step forward, "Oh . . . oh are you okay?" Her wings open and close a few times as she tries to decide what to do.

Finally, she moves, hesitantly, closer to the stallion. "I . . . I didn't leave." But she doesn't know what else to say. She isn't quite sure what's going on with him, but she's a bit curious. Does he have a thing for trees? Is he that clumsy? Should she say something more?

Her wings continue to show her agitation as they refuse to settle on her back. But the rest of her has returned to stillness.
