Saluki trudged into the fields. It had been some time since he spent any time alone and away from his human, but she had encouraged him to take a walk and "get some air" as his buffalo friend seemed to put it.

He'd spent many a days sulking at the teepee and gotten over the end of his relationship with his dear Alexandra. She was still a friend of his, but their parting - though it had an understandable reason - had hit him to the core and it took some time. Though since getting over the event, he had found it hard to get back into the idea that there may be someone else out there for him. So actually getting out and socializing hadn't really been a thought in his mind. And more likely than not, he preferred to stay at the Teepee with his human than endeavor to go out and look for someone new to converse with.

His human - though loving all Soquili as much as she loved nature itself - had finally tired of his constant hovering and urged him off for a while. She knew he'd come back. He always did. And she definitely didn't love him any less.

So! Here he was! Wandering at a lazy sort of a pace out into the fields, allowing the sun to grace his figure and warm him between the small bursts of chilled wind. Winter was readily approaching and he was forever grateful that his human had provided him with a blanket. It did well to keep him warm on the colder days.

He sighed softly to himself and looked over the rolling hills before him. Sometimes looking out at the world around him made him feel a little more at ease. It was something even he couldn't quite explain, but it did.

He smiled faintly and stretched a bit before making his way towards a nearby creek. He had been pulling some ropes earlier that day at the Teepee and he realized that his mouth had gone dry from the effort. He needed a cool drink to sate it.

It was an every day tradition for the soft pastel colored uni mare to come to this field and visit with the flowers and with the trees. It was almost impossible to say anyone loved nature more than she and her brother, though to say she had seen her brother as of late was a bit of an understatement. Lilian had not seen her dear brother in ages, and though she knew deep in her heart he was ok, the mare had grown a touch lonesome. Sure she had her human friend and her fellow soquili companions but none of them seemed to truly understand how much she missed her brother... not even Alkiear and he was about as understanding as you can get.

And so Lilian made the journey to the field every day in hopes of learning secrets from the flowers as to her dear Faeris's whereabouts, or at the very least, to meet someone or something that took her mind of it. Though the results of that particular morning were the same as every morning. Wonderful conversations with the plant life but nothing to ease her ever growing worry. Come to think of it, she hadn't even really seen any other soquili around, and so when another unicorn happened upon the small creek, she found herself quite oblivious to his presence.

Her mind had focused upon the trickling waters of the creek as she gently lapped up the cooling liquid, allowing it to slide over her tongue and down her throat. A soft nicker bounced around her throat and out her nostrils as she gave a gentle flick of her tail. The bangles about her hoof jingled softly as she gently placed her hoof so delicately as to not disturb the grass beneath her. Her long mane swayed softly in the wind as she lifted her head from her drink to begin conversing with a near by flower, still unaware of the other's drawing presence. A soft mothering like sound could be heard leaving her lips as she whispered gently to the golden petals. "Winter is coming soon little one, I do hope you find yourself nestled down and warm before it hits."

Saluki rose over the last little bit of a hill that looked over the creek and froze.

Another Soquili. Pale colored...

His form grew rigid and stiff, eyes glazing in an odd mix of fear, anger and definite uncertainty. It had been quite some time - over a year, in fact - since he had driven away a rather dangerous individual from these lands and whispers amongst the neighboring soquili have told him that she had gotten much stronger since his encounter with her. The scars that etched his neck and shoulders itched and burned at the thought of her possible return. They undoubtedly flared a fleshy red at the thought that she might very well be standing right in front of him, but for all his efforts he couldn't quite remember her exact look. He remembered some pale colors... but... didn't the viscous one have a dark pelt on her back?

He was silent and listened a moment, studying her every muscle twitch and stretched his ears forward as she spoke.

Her motions were calm and gentle, and her words much the same. Add that to the fact that she wasn't wearing a pelt on her back and he settled, finally managing an exhaled sigh as he remembered to breathe and blink again. Ok... so now he was just a bit on edge, but he quickly gathered his wits. This mare was obviously NOT that horrible creature he had run into. She was, in fact, quite the opposite. He gathered his thoughts and stepped forward slowly.

"I didn't think there were any Soquili out this way..." he started calmly. He hoped he hadn't startled her as he wasn't one to get a thrill off such a thing. His movement slowed as he neared and he stopped a few horse-lengths away, not daring to get too close to her just yet.

He looked her over briefly and swished his tail gently. "Are you new to the area, Miss?"

Lilian's ears flickered as she blinked at the flower most confused. She had never heard one talk back so strong before.... she hadn't thought to look up until she heard the stamping of hooves and a swish of a tail. Her heart half fluttered with joy as she glanced up, hoping... almost expecting... to see the form of her brother. But alas. The form was quite the same but the colors..... were not. Where she had wanted to see a black coat with white markings similar to hers, one brilliant blue eye and one bright gold... was instead a mottled white and gold pelt and pale green eyes.

Raising her head, she blinked her golden eyes as they now rested upon another soquili... a male unicorn at that. With her confusion quickly fading, a soft smile spread across her muzzle, just as soft as her voice. If the creek trickled any louder, you might not even be able to hear her. "Oh... heavens no, I come here every day...." she said with a soft laugh as she cast her gaze back down to the flower. "I come to talk to the flowers and the trees you see...." her tone held an immense amount of affection for the golden petaled flower...which oddly enough, looked near exact to the male speaking to her now. She wondered if he thought her crazy, most did when she told them she spoke to the plant life.

Flicking her ears, she glanced back up at him, trying her best not to look threatening though she needn't try too hard. It was the scars around his neck that caught her attention first and wondered if she had just wandered into the territory of a rather fierce male and this was his game to drive her away. "Forgive me, I had not seen any others here during all my visits. I shall gladly leave if you wish..." her soft voice trailed off as she picked up a hoof and took a step backwards, dipping her head in a gentle apology.

"Nono!" he started then chuckled a bit in a nervous state now. "It's... been a while since I've come to the fields. A year almost, in fact."

He bowed his head down respectively. "Judging by your manner and tone, I don't think you mean any of us any harm. He inwardly frowned at himself upon seeing her back away. Did he do something to scare her? He hoped he hadn't. He shuffled slightly on his hooves in uncertainty. "If that's true, then you're more than welcome to stay for as long as you wish."

He smiled gently and nodded, moving his way towards the creek for that much needed drink.

"The name's Saluki, by the way."

He seemed quite gentle and was good enough for her. She stopped her retreat and took a step forward again, watching as he came down for a drink. She let out a faint laugh by the way he introduced himself and gave a horse equivalent of a courtesy. "Pleasure to meet you Saluki, they call me Lilian." she chimed, wondering if she should advance to the other side of the creek or not.

"I do thank you for your warm invitation. The plant life here are quite lovely and always have many interesting things to say." she giggled again. If there was a stereotype to call her by, it would have been something akin to a hippy. Though the question still lingered on her mind and she desired to ask of him something she already knew the answer too...and yet it had managed to slip out of her lips before she realized it. "You have not, by chance, seen a black unicorn stallion with similar markings to mine?" she tilted her head, her golden eyes looking at him almost desperately, though she meant it not.

He gathered a drink and smiled a bit. "You and my buffalo companion would get along well." he chuckled and turned. "She likes to sing to the flowers and trees. Or anything, really. If she thinks it'll listen, she'll sing to it."

"It is a beautiful area, though. I used to come here all the time..."

He listened to her query then tilted his head in temporary thought. "No, Miss Lilian. I can't say that I have." He frowned softly, sensing that she held a bit of hope in finding this stallion. "Someone close to you?" he asked, curious as to why she was asking of a Stallion.

Lilian's ears went down against her head as he spoke the answer she knew indeed was coming. Though just as she had epexted it, she mustered up another smile and cast her frown away. "Oh, he is my brother. I haven't seen him in a while though I know he is well." she said softly, tilting her head at him in mild excitement.

"You have a buffalo really? Oh I would love to hear her sing. My little ferret is kind... but he is slow to understand why it is that I speak to the flowers." she said with a giggle, flicking her tail a bit and gently hoping over the creek to stand on the same side as him, shaking her hooves a bit from the water.

It was here that Saluki cracked a warm sort of smile. His muscles relaxed further at her words.

His human adored ferrets and thought of them as special critters. To her, all ferrets were good and only associated with gentle creatures. To hear that this mare had a ferret companion eased his spirits further of whether this mare meant any harm.

"Then perhaps - if you're still around at about sundown - you can hear her." he mused, knowing that buffalo friend of his liked to serenade the world around them to sleep.

He moved forward again and took a drink of water. His parched lips finally sated from the morning's activities. Once that was done, he looked back to Lilian. "You have no worries about that, Miss Lilian. My human believes that if you talk or sing to the plants, they grow better. Something about them feeling the love of the speaker and showing its gratitude by growing bigger and taller, producing better fruits and brighter colors. As a foal, I used to think it unusual, but now that I've seen it actually proven in my years, it's nothing unusual to me anymore."

Her ears flickered and she swayed her tail a bit. "Sundown? Ah, she must sing you to sleep, does she?" she smiled softly and waited for him to finish drinking before he spoke more.

A smile lit up on her muzzle as he did and a strange joy rang within her chest, so much so that for those few brief moments with him, she forgot about her original quest of finding her monochromatic colored brother. "I am pleased to find someone who does not think it strange of me. Part of what you say is indeed true, though I've found some flowers are simply glad for the attention. A few I've run across are real chatter boxes." she laughed again, swishing her head down shyly.

She had learned her love of nature from her bigger brother, though she was not as profound in the beliefs as he was, she felt quite strongly in her bond with plant life and animals.
