"I am Nootau." Ahtahkakoop-Nootau said randomly. He and his brother had the same first name, so everyone called them by their second names. The juv tilted his head and peered up into the night sky as if expecting an answer. In fact he was. The stars had started gossiping about falling star stone. This had interested him immediantly. It wasn't often one fell, he thought. Nootau wanted one of his own. A real piece of the stars. The pack's lands were mostly picked clean of all the good ones.
"Across the lake, across the stream." He hummed tunelessly. Oh wait which way was he going? "You're suppose to direct me here! Was it left or right?" Nootau paused then nodded. " You're sure? I do hope your right. I want to find it before someone else does." He pranced right. Narrowly avoiding the dangerous insect in front of him. If someone else got there first, then he'd have come all this way for nothing. He wouldn't have anything to show his parents. The juv paused, then started doing loops barely proceeding forward.

Atara wasn't quite sure where she was herself. Something about this land seemed... different. She hoped she hadn't stumbled upon some pride lands. She had never encountered a lion, and the thought brought both fear and immense excitement within her. She was a rebel, a child at heart. Adventure was her calling. Suddenly she stopped. In the night air she heard faint murmuring. She drew nearer, her curiosity getting the better of her. It was... why, it was a young juvenile pup, and it seemed to be doing loops, speaking to itself! What a strange sight! Not one to flee from an encounter, Atara stepped forward with an assuring smile. "Hello, little lad," she greeted. "My name is Atarangi, but you may call me Atara. What is your name?"

He had had no idea that he was being watched, by other than the stars. Until a voice spoke up. Nootau stopped and looked over his shoulder. He wrinkled his brow as he saw the female wild dog. Was this what he was looking for?
"I told you. Nootau. Are you a star?" The young dog glanced up to the stars overhead. "They say your not. or that you might be. If you put an 'S' in front you get Starangi. I'm looking for star stones." He hummed again to himself then froze. "Oh your not here to steal my piece are you?" He gave her a fierce puppy growl. "I can't let you do that star."

Atara watched, fixated with disbelief and laughter in her eyes as the pup went on. "A star?" She laughed at the absurdity of it, but then a mischievous grin slathered across her face and she slowly nodded. "I am a star, yes." She cocked her head to the side, amusement taking over her. Admittedly, her acting job was not a good one; but on this audience, she didn't think it mattered. "Your piece? Of the star stone?" She lifted a paw as if to testify. "I wouldn't dare steal it from you, Nootau. I do, however, know where it is," she said with a playful grin.

The pup studied her a moment. He was sure a star would glow. Suppose a star didn't want to glow, maybe she could control that. Nootau shook his head to straighten his mind. He did relax after she assured him she wouldn't steal. That was good. Again his ears perked when she admitted to knowing where it was.
"A bush. A bush. Leaf of green." He waved his paw to show that she should lead him to it. Nootau glanced up at the stars over head. "Of course I know what I'm doing. You sent her to me, so why should you question it."

Atara smiled at the pup's formal enthusiasm. She crouched to his level, her soft pink eyes on his. "They question me?" She feigned a gasp, then closed her eyes and hummed. "It's coming to me," she whispered, rocking. Her eyes shot open, bright with mischief. "I've got it," she simply said, then turned around and began to trot happily away. She paused briefly to indicate with her paw that he should follow. "You coming, kid?" She called out. She turned straight again, quickly scanning the area. A single, small pebble crunched under her paw; the rest of the savannah seemed empty and dry. This would have to do. Their star stone.

He twittered a moment at something the stars obviously said. "That was really rude! You should apologize. Well no I can't make you, but you should." Nootau rolled his eyes and sighed. Stars sometimes.
He watched her then arched his brow with a twitched ear. Yup she was a strange one. He muttered, "this had better not be why you kicked her out." As she called out he perked up. "Of course but if I wasn't you had better wait for me. You promised you weren't stealing it." He pranced after the bigger wild dog.
Nootau stopped and peered around. "I wonder what it's like up there." He pointed with his nose up at the sky. Then he winced. "Oh yes I'm sure. Indubitably. But... enough. Alright quiet down..... I SAID SHUT UP!" The young male huffed and shook his head. "I can't find it with all you yelling at me."

Okay, so the pup was clearly delusional. It didn't mean Atara couldn't have some harmless fun... right? She paused, questioning herself as she listened to the young wild dog talk to himself. He sure seemed to believe the stars were talking to him. Well, she could play this game. "Hey," she interrupted and indicated with a paw to what she had "found". "What do you think this is?" She asked with a grin, rolling the small stone in the soft pads of her paw. "You're the expert, aren't you?"

Thankfully his wilddog-star distracted him from the voices. They were beginning to be a bit much. Nootau bounded over. What had she found? He used his paw to pull it closer to him as he laid down on his belly. Putting his face as close to the stone as he could. She called him the expert so he had to act like one.
Carefully he hemed-and-hawed as he scrutinized every surface. Was this it? He put his paw on it, took his paw, and put his paw back on. "Bish with a fish." It made no sense, but it sounded right to him. Finally he gave the stone a quick lick. Nootau smacked his lips as he analyized the taste.
"Yup, I do believe you've found the original thing! Great job." With prize in tow he could now go home and show it off. He picked it up and turned around then paused. Now which way was home?
