User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.It was early morning, the sun just barely peeking through the trees. The air was still cool as the night and there was only just enough light to see a few tails ahead of oneself. The moon had already set though and sun was making it climb, however slow it seemed. Hidden away against the roots of a tree was Smoldering Reverie, folded up, tucked away, head under her tail, but her eyes were open, watching the sun filter into the swamp and bring her out of her dream. Tendrils of heat settled into her limbs until the chill was dispelled from her bones. Blinking slowly, Ember unfolded and pulled herself up, straightening, settling, until she felt comfortable in her skin again. The sun was higher now, a gentle, glow behind branches and leaves. It was filtered, dappled warmth against her pelt that left patterned shadows of a dark against dark shifting over her body.

She moved in a slow, gliding pace, steps even, not purposefully quiet, but light nonetheless. She should be close. She had only asked one kin that she had come across of where she should be headed, and she hadn't possessed it within her to ask another, skirting around company with an ease born of innate shyness. It was as if she didn't exist at times. Did she exist if no one knew she was there. Yet, her dear friend, her pale, moonfire friend, all warmth despite the beautiful, stark chill of his name and appearance, knew she was there, certain of her existence. The knowledge of existence sat comfortably between her shoulder blades, a comforting weight that urged her on, whisper tendrils of encouragement and desire.

Ember thought she heard the sound of hooves against the ground, or perhaps not. Even so, the sound, imagined or not, made her stop and she settled behind a tree, shielding herself from the direction of the perceived sound. Maybe it had only been distant voices or the shift of wood against wood. Or perhaps not. The fire-dark doe had been looking for her dearest friend's family shop, a strange concept, yet it made her smile. She could find him easily now, whenever she wanted to be reminded of a blood-soaked frost cast in the cool shadow of moonlight. She leaned against the tree, not quite ready to set off again, and she let out a soft sigh.

Hello, The Killing Moon.

Ember’s visit was a fortunate one and coincided with Killing Moon thoughtfully watching two young Eaglehound’s tussle with each other in the grass. Echo had given birth to three offspring under Killing Moon’s watchful eye and one had quickly found a home with Left. It had suited him perfectly to be able to return the gift his brother had so graciously given him in Echo. Of the two remaining; one would not stay. Killing Moon could see the wildness in its eyes and one day it would simply not return. Took after its father, he presumed. But the last one...

She cast a somewhat disinterested gaze at her own children and then focused her attention on Killing Moon, ears eagerly forward. Knowledge passed between them, a simple thought, and then she turned and returned to the trees. Killing Moon followed with a murmured ‘I’ll be back later’ to a nearby Sunspot.

At the edge of the trees he paused, looking back at the young Eaglehound’s. The buck gave a thoughtful whistle and the one with paws like fire responded. Killing Moon smiled.

Echo silently led the way to where the doe was hidden. Not far from the shop at all. The buck did not intrude on her but instead stood where his voice would carry and called her name, his voice deep and welcoming, “Ember…”

There was the soft rustling of movement amongst grass, soft and with the underlying squelch of the swamp. The tree was her shield and she listened as the hoofsteps came closer and closer and she thought she heard paws, but they seemed ungainly, clumsy from their sound which Ember could not imagine belonging to graceful, silentshadow, echo-Echo. And yet when the hoofsteps stopped and the paws stumbled to a halt, it was Killing Moon's voice the greeted her ears. She let his voice wash over her, infusing her bones with more warmth than the sun was ever capable. It picked her up from her lean, settling her weight back onto her hooves.

Turning around the tree, she caught a brief, perfect glimpse of her friend between the trees before he disappeared from view behind the trees until she rose forward over their roots and edged around the trees, sliding around to face her dearest friend. And was then there was this rush of home, content, wakingdream and Ember smiled. Then her eye was caught by first Echo whom she leaned forward, not to the touch, simply to greet when then she saw a smaller creature. The bumbling, bigpawed, oversized, tumbling that she had heard. Her gaze was caught by his front paws, the smoke-coal smudges against that perfect red. She was lost there for a moment, a strange time-frozen moment, where her dreams pressed feather light and insistent and she nearly wanted to close her eyes then and their to preserve that first moment of seeing those paws, immortalize the rush, feel of them in her dreams.

She looked up at Killing Moon, straightening up from her lean, finding his eyes before, giving a slow blink of greeting, gently touched him, cheek to cheek and let his name tumble like firesweet ashes from her mouth, "The Killing Moon..."

She said no more. It was not needed. Instead she took in a soft, fluttering bird's thrum breath before letting it rush out in contentment.

Ruriska
Ack! Sorry for taking so long to reply! I don't think I'm ever going to get over how much I adore Killing Moon.

The Killing Moon’s eyes softened as Ember emerged from behind the trees. He remained where he was, finding a great sense of ease from this simple moment. Echo slipped past him, her steady gaze on the doe. The slight flick of her tail was her only response to the others greeting, but it was enough and more than she gave most. The other Eaglehound watched on with a curious gaze, held back only by the manners Killing Moon had already worked to instill on him.

Shifting forward ever so slightly, The Killing Moon rubbed his cheek softly against his friend’s. The soft sigh she gave caused him to give a delighted chuckle in response. When he eventually pulled back, the buck nodded towards the young Eaglehound waiting nearby. “What do you think?” He asked; a thoughtful glint in his eyes.

Amorpheous
Haha, and I love Ember. <3
Killing Moon was not playing nice with those post, sorry it's crap. And I just realised Eaglehound's don't have ears... xD

With The Killing Moon's chuckle came that soft, ember warmth that Smoldering Reverie had come to associate with her dear friend. She followed his nod and returned her gaze to the small pup that watched with open, fire eyes set in the deepest blue that made her think of a fire burning as night approached. She studied him with soft eyes, her gaze flickering once over to Echo for a moment before she spoke, "He's... beautiful."

She smiled, thinking back to when she had first met The Killing Moon, and looked up at him, her ash eyes meeting his moonlight ones. She doesn't need to ask because she can see where the pup's fire came from, but she does anyways, perhaps avoiding the idea that is hidden behind The Killing Moon's words, "Is he Echo's pup?"

Ruriska
Ahhh! So sorry about this!
And I should also get my butt moving on Rebuilding the Mound and the Rise and Shine RP so that we can get Killing Moon's reqs filled. Ember still has a ways to go till I feel that she's developed enough for ascension, but ahhhh! Killing Moon! ♥ And the zikwa ORP, going to get to that as well. ;__;

“Yes,” he answered simply, his loving gaze moving to where Echo sat placidly watching them all. The three offspring she had brought into the world had given him endless delight.

The young Eaglehound gave an impatient sort of whuff and stretched out his front legs.

“He is yours, Ember. If you would have him and I suppose, if he will have you.” While some would treat the creatures of the Swamp only as pets, he saw them as friends. But he was certain Ember and this young male would get along beautifully. “It would mean a lot to me to know that one of Echo’s children is with you.”

Killing Moon was pleased by his own idea and he watched his friend with an eager smile, hoping she would agree.

Amorpheous
Aaah, don't stress too much on all those RP's! We'll shove this one of of the way and then think about the rest! <3 Maybe if Killing Moon ascended first, it would help Ember along her own path?

She leaned down closer when the pup moved, but didn't quite touch him. She smiled softly at the pup, but felt apprehensive about accepting him. A constant companion was daunting, but she also felt a great sense of wanting for the pup to be there was well for he would be a reminder not only of The Killing Moon himself but of the gentle regard that she held for him, of the buck's thoughtfulness and kindness.

She met the pup's gaze, quietly trying to glean meaning and acceptance from the flames that flickered in his gaze as the light shifted with the rustling of mangrove leaves. Despite her uncertainty, she nodded and smiled softly, "I would be honored to have him by me side."

She was unused to constant companionship, her friendship with The Killing Moon being her closest, and perhaps only, friend and theirs was a friendship sustained by warmth of thought rather than than contact. Still, she could not turn away this pup, Echo's child, with his smoking paws and burning eyes.

Ruriska
I think it could work with them ascending around the same time or him helping her along which would be too cute. I think, by around Rise & Shine ORP, she's gained a fair amount of tolerance for crowds and what I plan for her to learn from Killing Moon is tied to Rise & Shine/Left, Jun willing, and family, but after that, it's mostly her finding strength which requires that she branch off from Killing Moon. So if I really get going, I think they could ascend together since I have her storytelling and naming dream done.

Killing Moon watched her as she studied the young Eaglehound and when she finally agreed to take him by her side, he gave a delighted grin.

“He will be good for you.” The buck murmured softly. His dear friend was naturally solitary by nature, but Eaglehound’s were good for that. They seemed to know their owner did or didn’t want companionship. They were attuned to those sorts of emotions.

The pup seemed to understand what was happening at he met the doe’s gaze squarely, sitting straight and proud.

Amorpheous
I guess it also depends on when the next ascension thing actually happens! x3 <3 Ember will be the best Legendary.
I'm working on a solo, so I really only need a couple more RP's to finish him off. So exciting. ;o;

Ember matched Killing Moon's grin with a warm, soft smile of her own before turning her apprehensively smile on the pup. She might have been more nervous if he were more rambunctious, but there was a quiet solidness about him that seemed bone-deep to match the frail, brittle cold that often settled in her marrow after strange, unsettling dreams of other kin's life, never her own.

In her first act of friendship, she bent down, reaching out to press cheek to cheek against the pup like she had greeted Killing Moon. When she pulled back, she gazed down at his paws again, seeing the flames come alive on them. She hummed softly, the sound hanging in the air like smoke, and she straightened and pressed her cheek to Killing Moon's again, this time in thanks. "And I hope I for him."

"There is fire at his paws," she paused, tilting her head and feeling the answer to the pup's external fire burn low in her chest. "He- He is Walking on Fire."

In that moment, she had not meant to name him, but it seemed appropriate so she let out a soft breath. "Thank you.

Ruriska
Ah! Killing Moon is going to be the best! And definitely the most deserving in the eyes of Ember. I don't think she'll be very surprised, but she'll definitely be very pleased. ♥ So very pleased.
I have a few solos planned, one for her musings after the arrival of the Totoma and meeting Flickering and for her to find her pets, and after all the ORP's, the rest of her character arc is to do with establishing a strong sense of reality.
I kind of was thinking that you were planning on ascending Killing Moon when I saw him in RP titles. xD

“A good name.” Killing Moon agreed, smiling down at Echo’s son. He could think of no better place for this pup than by the side of his greatest friend. Almost as if a part of him would always be there to protect her.

The buck watched the Ember and her new Eaglehound, content with the sight.

Amorpheous
shitty reply sorry, my brain died ;o; end now or one more from Ember? I guess I gave the game away with 'OMGNEEDKILLINGMOONRP'. xD I'm so excited for them both. <3
