Bio: When Max was a puppy he was abandoned and forced to wander the back-alleys for the first 6 months of his life, living off of garbage and rainwater. One day he was cornered by a group of boys who enjoyed tormenting the local animals. As they were throwing sticks and rocks at him a little girl stepped in, standing between him and the boys, demanding that they leave him alone. To his surprise, the girl then took him home, washing him and feeding him. Her parents allowed her to adopt him and she named him Maximus.
Maximus lived with his new family for four and a half years, growing up to become extremely strong and protective of the little girl he loved so much. The family he lived with was well to do and involved in many high-class things, but since he was an ordinary dog he didn't care or understand any of that. All he knew was his master and his love for her.
One day that all changed when the house was assaulted by a group of witches. Unbeknownst to him, the family had made a bargain with a clan of witches in one of their many lucrative deals, but for some reason the deal had gone sour and the witches had decided to end it. Permanently. Without warning they swooped down on the house, burning and destroying everything in sight. Maximus fought to protect his family, but he was an ordinary dog and was immediately blasted away by the witches. When he awoke he found his family dead and his home nothing but ashes and rubble. Max was much worse for the wear, half his body had been permanently scorched black by the magical attacks of the witches, and he had lost sight in his right eye.
Several days later an uncle of the family arrived, finding only Max amongst the ashes. He took Max in, but not out of the goodness of his heart. The uncle was a powerful wizard and over the next several weeks he subjected Max to a process known as "uplifting". This process was extremely rare and the goal was to give Max the intelligence of a human, as well as the ability to assume a human form. In addition, the uncle aimed to turn Max into a Weapon as well. The uplifting was a success, as Max proved to be more resilient than most test subjects.
Given sentience, the uncle explained to Max why he had taken him in. The uncle and Max's former owners belonged to a very powerful family in a region of the world where honor and tradition were extremely important. According to the ancient laws, if someone spilled the blood of a family member, it was up to the next surviving family member to avenge them. The uncle was the only surviving family member, but he was both too selfish and cowardly to undertake the ancient law himself.
So he had found a loophole: By uplifting Max, he had turned him into an official family member, as any sentient being adopted by a family was considered a family member completely. This made Max the next surviving family member and the only one left to fulfill the ancient law of vengeance against the witches who had killed his owners. Max readily accepted, already desiring vengeance for the ones he had loved so much. He underwent special training to adapt to and understand the human world. When the uncle was satisfied that he could pass as a human, he sent him to the DWMA to learn how to fight as a Weapon and finally be ready to carry out his mission. The uncle has never divulged the fact that Max is actually the family dog, instead stating that he is an estranged nephew. Thus Max's secret is known to no one at the DWMA.
Abilities: (Up to 8 )
+ Telepathy (in his true form)
+ Duel Wielding: Max can be either of the two swords, or both at the same time
+ Justice's Sting: When pointing Justice at an opponent, a Meister can fire a long, sharp shaft of energy towards them. This shaft pierces the opponent and lodges in them, burning them for as long as it remains. They are forced to pull it out, which burns even more when they do so.
+ Vengeance's Bite: Vengeance is a double-edged sword and can be swung either way. When it's used to block and connects with the enemy blade, the enemy Weapon will be damaged by Max's resonance force.
+ Death's Defiance: When dual wielding, placing both swords against each other will create a shield, blocking all but the strongest enemy attacks
+ Absolution: When at full strength, placing both blades together creates a single black-and-white blade. Any area of the body hit by this blade leaves deep wounds and burn marks, as well as a slow paralysis that spreads through the body, slowing the enemy down.
+ Penance: With this ability, Max is able to break through any resonance force or madness shield that an enemy puts up. He can't break through an actual Weapon (like a sword) but any kind of shield or barrier created can be broken through at the point where Max hits it
+ Grace: When touched with Justice (not in an attack) an enemy's wounds can be healed
Personality: Max is extremely loyal to those whom he cares about, even to the point of sacrificing anything to protect them. He is generally straightforward, never having mastered the human art of being subtle or tactful. He doesn't speak much to strangers but speaks freely to friends. He prefers girls due to his master having been one, and some negative history with abuse from boys, but he doesn't hate them and is still willing to befriend them.
