Chokwe Troupe

A dangerous mission…

Was assigned to three of the top scouts of the Chokwe troupe. Two of their youngsters had vanished. An eyewitness accounted for one being seized and spirited away by a lioness, the other was assumed to have been butchered alive… all that remained of the unfortunate twin were patches of blood and fur. The same male that had left the scout bloodied and clinging to consciousness had descended on the youth. The worst was assumed to have happened and the troupe was calling for retribution.

Taban insisted that more information be gathered. They knew little of the lioness or her origins and even less of the bloodthirsty male that had followed in her footsteps. Three leopards, the best in their trade, had been selected to track the lioness to her pride, if such a beast had one, and locate the kidnapped youngsters.

With Kirkis at the head, the three followed the trail back into the territory of the Mwana.

User ImageOOC Info - Mwana ||
• The Chokwe scouts are not expected. Heck, the abduction from their territory wasn’t much expected. So your characters should not be on guard for the scouts…yet.
• You may rp your characters having a casual day within the territory or reacting to the multiple cubs that have been brought into the territory.
• Only when a Chokwe member has reached 0 in stealth can they be detected! When this happens, if this happens, you are free to have your character react as you see fit.
• The scouts will flee, they will not fight, when their stealth runs out, but that doesn’t mean they’ll get away untouched! If it’s in your character’s nature to get violent then we’ll figure out a damage system around that time.

Kirkas' Stealth

11 points remain.

This was it... the end of the trail.
The leopard glanced back to his two companions and gave a short but confident nod of his head. They had not wasted a moment in scouring the territory of their troupe's border for clues. The blood from their kidnapped or... fallen little ones, the paw prints, the scents- they had enough to track. Between the three of them, they had found small markers here and there. The blood trail had ended but there were patches of fur left snagged on thistle, paw prints where the ground had become moist, and finally a fresh scent of the offending intruder.

Viktor and Flik had both warned them that if their suspicions were correct, and vampires were involved, that the three would be walking into no small amount of danger. There were rumors that the vampire madness, or curse as some might see it, was not confined to just one pride. Viktor had an experience with a pride of them not too many years back and there had been a pale lioness on their border inquiring after them just a few months prior to the birth of the now kidnapped cubs.

He drew in a deep breath, looked ahead, and pressed on.

Vaan Stealth

14 points remaining.

Of the group, he was perhaps the most skeptical. He had never seen a vampire nor heard of the act of draining another animal just for its blood. What a waste. The stories seemed so far-fetched that he had put very little faith in their findings. In his mind, the cubs were snatched by a desperate rogue or a hostile pride. Much of the Chokwe claimed to have dealings with one tribe or another of these beings but Vaan knew only real monsters. He'd believe it when he saw it.

Even standing on the border he had his doubts. There was something dark and foreboding about the place and he was under no delusions that they were in a dangerous territory but thus far there was no evidence of actual vampires in the place.

He gave a short nod to Kirkis as the party leader glanced back then pressed on. Lowering himself to the ground, he moved after the pale leopard.

He was proud of his new catch. Not really a catch more than a find. Normally if the said female had shown some sort of fight or hesitation to live among his people he would have been more inclined to force her; but she came willingly. Strangely willingly. He had been wandering outside the pride; when a startlingly marked female came across his path and he couldn't help but want her... he desired her fear... but she had none.

Suuluu stood before the stranger and simply spoke to him of her interest in the pride that smelled so greatly of bloodshed and yet lacked in death. When the strange lion expressed his desire for her to return with him; she showed no hesitation. Only desire.

"...lead the way..."

He turned to look over his shoulder at the female. "Why are you so interested in my home?" He asked her; his eyes looking at her's for some sort of assurance that she would fit in... course if she didn't... what choice would she have.

User Image

She was not afraid of him. Not even the moment he stepped from the bushes and smelled of crimson. Even the telltale fangs peeking from his lip did not frighten her. She was intrigued. Excited by him and the smell of his pelt. Even now she seemed entranced by it... the idea of what he had spoken of. Power... the power... and the aroma and the taste of it... everything that she could desire... was being offered and she was taking it.

"The smell of it..." She said simply; quickening her pace so she was nearer to the pink male as they went farther into the pride. "Why were you so eager to bring me?" She asked with a smile.

"Rakshasas."

A soft, feminine voice came from the darkness before a shadow separated itself from the surroundings, gliding towards the pair. A pair of purple eyes emerged before the darkness drew back from a red streaked pelt, an adult lioness with some small resemblance to the male revealed.

"Mother has done it again... Your father wants to speak with anyone who's been near the borders to see if she's been followed. If you're coming from that direction, then I assume that means you too." Haunting eyes turned and narrowed at the stranger that accompanied her brother, Ammemet's tail lashing once. "Who is this stranger? She smells... new."

The red lioness felt the familiar hunger, but she ignored it. Sometimes she wondered if it was easier for her than others... one among many questions she had for the slight difference she felt in herself when she was around others of her kind.

User Image He'd been rather silent lately, moving about the lands like a mottled shadow. Toshiro's claws pricked the dirt as he walked, ears back amid his silver mane. It seemed a bit whiter lately, and he saw it in his reflections in pools of water. He wasn't a young lion anymore. But that didn't mean he was entirely dead. The piebald male, quite to contrary, was intent on many things, one being the removal of his meddlesome grandson from bothering him. Then he'd take care of HIS children... Or at least one of them. He wasn't sure which of the boys he'd remove, possibly the one most like Shin, so... Afraid and frightful of the world...

He smelled a newcomer, accompanied by the scent of one of the local lions. Green eyes narrowed for a moment, before he smiled. No fear... This one had no fear... He stepped from the brush, simply finding a spot to sit down for the moment. He wasn't a young lion anymore, after all.

Kirkis' Stealth

9 points remain.

The leopard inched forward, keeping his body as low to the ground as he could manage. His ears pinned back, he made more noise initially than he had wanted. Behind him, Vaan padded forward in near silence. Jale would have to catch up... a small collective of lions was making their way from the border. Good, good...he could follow them into the pride, perhaps they knew something.

He froze and raised his head as much as he dared to. One of the lionesses, approaching from within the territory, seemed tensed. From here, it was hard to hear what she was saying, but her posture and expression eluded to tension.

He narrowed his eyes and inspected the others. So far blacks, whites, and reds seemed common...there was that strange pink color that the Tenkai had mentioned on the back of the male who... either had a new captive or a new found mate with him. She didn't seem entirely comfortable with the area...

The other male bore the three "V" shaped scars that Taban had eluded to. So...here was the seed of Nyekendu's bloodlust and Moses' deception. Just as the Tenkai had said... between the two of them there was plenty reason to take the cubs of the Chokwe...but still he couldn't be certain.

He glanced back to Vaan and motioned for him to branch off. They would cover more ground individually.

Vaan's Stealth

12 points remain.

Vaan inched forward, keeping a foot between himself and the leader of their small reconnaissance unit. The territory was clearly marked and they had well over-stepped those markers. The lions within would be hostile if they were located, he had no delusions about a peaceful confrontation if it came to that. Settling into silence, he turned ahead to observe. He could hear voices, but the words were garbled over the distance and often fell behind the sound of the wind blowing through the dry grass around them.

He looked back only when Kirkis motioned for his attention, then pointed away. Ah. A split. Perhaps it wasn't a great idea, had this been an aggressive operation, but for information gathering, it made sense. Nodding his understanding, the dark leopard broke from his leader's side and prowled towards the west.

The black and white male soon tired of listening to the younger lions prattle on, having stopped paying attention a while ago. He rose to his paws and began to walk again, now and then stopping. He swore he heard something... Toshiro looked around, then decided it was probably only something like a leopard. He wasn't sure about other lions, but he didn't particularly care either way what stalked their jungle, as long as it wasn't an intruding lion or a hyena. He hated hyenas...

The piebald lion soon found his way to where the filched cubs were being kept, and as he passed one, he shoved it over. No reason, he just felt like doing it. The boys would have to toughen up, after all. Life was not sweet sunshine and roses now, and they'd need to learn how to take what they wanted or needed. "Wake up, you little runts! Sleeping time's over!"

Rak lifted his head slowly at the sound of his name and his sister Ammemet came into view. He sighed. If there was one thing he disliked it was when someone addressed him; because it usually meant something annoying about his mother. And it was. He sighed. "I swear, we should just tie her up and let her see sunlight sometimes..." He said, his voice rather low and irritated; glancing sideways at his new lovely friend.

"She is new. She has come to be one of us. Not food.." He said simply, giving his sister a stern look. It was almost a look of intimidation. He had by no means claimed her as his; but he was feeling a tad protective. "She could smell the blood of our people and it made her's churn..." He added, tossing a glance at the black and white male; Toshiro. He sighed; rolling his eyes. "Unfortunately I didn't see anything from the borders but her..."

Suulluu watched the male and his sibling discuss his mother and sort of gave a glance towards the other's around. Particularly that black and white male. She observed him for a moment, her red eyes soft before turning to look at the female. "My name is Suuluu..." She said simply. She looked back to Rakshasas and nodded. "I would much rather partake rather than being partaken upon.."

She watched the older male bully some cubs and she sort of cast a glance at the others to see if it was acceptable... She wasn't so sure from the pink lion that had brought her in... his reaction said he didn't think so.

User Image "Feeling a need to prove your manhood by picking on cubs, Toshiro?" Said a low, gravely voice from the other side of the cub pile. A dark form separated from the shadows, a gleaming white skull marking the pride's new Vervartae as the owner of the voice.

Calavera grinned at the piebald lion, but the expression didn't reach her pale eyes. She might be new to her position, but she wore her authority with prickly pride... as though daring someone to challenge her.

"Let the cubs sleep. The light children are still getting used to our sweet night."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Back where Toshiro had come from, Ammemet glared at her brother, exasperated with the whole thing. Why had Asanbosam chosen her to carry out this thankless task? Related she might be, but that hardly equated to being close to her siblings.
"You should have some respect for the creature that gave you life, Rakshasa. She could have killed you before you'd taken your first breath, but she didn't. Its not her fault her brain is warped... its our failure that allowed her to get out again unsupervised. I also don't give a damn what you're doing or where you've come from... Its your father that wants to talk to you. If this lady wants to join us then you're going to have to take her to him anyway."
The red female eyed the other, her gaze an unreadable violet. "He'll want first blood."
Alucard moved slightly as he was shoved by an adult male. He had been found along the borders by a none-too-stable female and had been carried into the lands without a complaint. His mother had left him, hoping that he would have the chance that she had been denied in life when her own pride had been angered against her. His father, he couldn't even recall his face. His name. Nothing... it was a blank. He was too young to really understand the gravity of his situation so instead he took it with silent acceptance.
He narrowed his eyes at the male and slowly settled himself against the ground, his tiny paws tucking under his body.
He inched in closer, holding his breath and timing his movements when the wind rustled the dry grass around him. The lions were speaking in low voices, their words still lost to him between the distance and the slight breeze that kept him hidden downwind and his movements muffled behind the rustling of grass. Daring another peek over the grassline, he followed the piebald male's movements. Sure enough, he passed through a group of cubs ranging in age. Ranging in colors and patterns. Some looked almost as if they belonged, others... not so much. There among them he could barely make out one of the twins. Motionless- hopefully asleep. His breath caught in his throat and his heart constricted. Where was the other!?
Vaan took another route, slinking close to the ground and moving in smooth, precise steps. His ears rolled forward to listen and his eyes narrowed against the grass brushing past his muzzle and cheeks. He was getting closer than his more pale companion dared to, and some of the words were beginning to register over muttered gibberish.
First blood...
He froze and turned his head, listening. So they did drink blood... they were vampires. The paranoid stories of the troupe suddenly didn't feel so outlandish. Perhaps, however, it was just a turn of phrase.
The piebald scowled at the skull-faced lioness. "Life is not so kind that we are allowed time to transition into things. They need to be shown that they are NOT going to be pampered, they are NOT going to be treated well by fate..." He then tried shoving the cub up again. "Get up, you little lout. Nap time's over." His gaze returned to Calavera. "I have no need to prove my maleness. It's simply an education in life. It's no longer sunshine and rainbows." Life had never been sunshine and rainbows from HIM. His cubhood had been spent amid the bones of long-dead elephants, picking at what was there while avoiding hyenas. Death was a way of life, and things didn't change much when he'd joined Nyekundu and then followed his daughter. He wasn't about to go easy on these little cubs just because they were afraid, lost, or alone.
