Death Hunter
DEATHSWEEPER

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

Solia had been told that this Training was hell. That she’d hate it. But Solia couldn’t hate things. Or people. Wait no. She did hate a few things but that was besides the point. Point was Solia doubted she would end up hating something like a training course. After all, what was the point in hating a thing designed to help you improve and get better? Not much good in that. Smiling to the techs that were running deathsweeper, she looked at what she’d be doing. It seemed easy but then… Death was never easy. Sent into the Golem she held her breath as she found herself in the room, tiles untouched. She just had to survive right? Prove that she could do this. She’d died once. Kinda. Sorta. Legally she was dead so did that even matter?

Hell if she knew. She was just going to take her first step towards death, towards perhaps becoming a better death. The step taken, and no reaction. And they say the first step is the hardest? Not really. It was just the first step. It was the second that was the worst. Why? The first step you could still turn back. By the second, you had already begun to move forward.

Just why on the second step, Solia threw down a flag. Like hell she was going to try and move forward not knowing where she was going. It was a smart move really, the ground caving into what looked like acid. Ow. Thank you golems. She loved you. A different step- Spikes. Okay yes. If this would have been her body, she might have been crying a bit. Golems were indeed, both a blessing and a curse. Blessing as well, she wouldn’t die. Curse as that she still could feel pain in them. She’d have to look into if the pain could be turned off.

The next step she winced. No. ******** that noise. She was NOT doing this again. Avoiding the step she planned to take, she moved to a different tile. A safe tile. As she stepped on it, Solia breathed a sigh of pure relief. She was Alive. Still had like, other steps to take but she’s almost beaten the course. And it was her first try even! She was actually pretty good at this maybe. Maybe. Okay probably not cuz really she was just actually really lucky and Israfel was pointing out how it wasn’t the most skill demanding course. It was timing and luck. So thus, Solia would just need a bit of both to Pass. And once she did? She’d be golden. Reward herself with a nice treat maybe? Yeah. That wounded like a plan.

Next step taken, Solia sighed with utter bliss as nothing happened. Oh thank you sweet Baby jesus. She was alive still and not death and the tile she was on had nothing happening to her. She’d come that far too. So close, yet so far. She had done how many? ******** if she knew. Just- gonna keep going . Gonna beat it. She was lucky and skilled. Or something.

So it was that upon her next step, Solia came to find that no, she was not so lucky, that the board was not so merciful. She was not so perfect. Flames consumed her golem and the traine woke form the pod, clearly startled by the rush of pain and the sudden lack of. THAT was training? THE HELL. It was ******** messed up is what it was. Brown eyes looked at the hunters on duty who snorted, telling her it was normal. She’d get used to it. Somehow, Solia really, really doubted she would get used to the sensation of dying. She shook her head. Besides if a person got used to it… wasn’t that a bad sign? That they were a bad hunter? She shuddered at the thought. She didn’t want to be that girl. No, she was so not going to be a s**t hunter. She was going to be a Good one.

Back in the pod, out on the training grounds, she looked around, taking her first step, not thinking. Pain lanced up her body as electricity ripped through her. Oh ******** she was going to die again She didn’t want to get used to this. Get off the tile. Get off- The ********- tile. She moved from one tile to the next, still not thinking, god help her, this hurt.

She didn’t want to get used to death but ironically she wanted to be a good death. Maybe that was why she died on the next tile, screaming in pain and blades came up and ripped her golem to shreds. Why did they have to feel pain again?
