He'd crippled his best friend.

That wasn't a small thing by anyone's standards and as much as he reassured himself and everyone else that it had been a sparring accident, that something had gone horribly horribly wrong, it wasn't acceptable. As a Sun he was supposed to be in control of combat, as much able to do damage as to control it, as accurate as he was chaotic. But he'd lost control, and it hadn't been the first time either, too many people had been hospitalised because he just couldn't keep Tracey's charges in check.

The sparring ban was for a few weeks, after that, without help he'd be back to the same abject destruction in his wake. It took deliberation but eventually he decided that he'd speak to Allan about it all. If anyone understood what it meant to have more damage capacity than you could control, he would, and for whatever bizarre reason, despite the cultural dissonance, he spoke a simple sort of language that Rep understood.

The first step was admitting you had a bit of a problem, so this was the first step of sorts. Plus, as much as he kept trying to shove the entire thing out of his mind, there remained the issue of Mark's text. The veracity of the data hadn't been confirmed by anyone on the list yet, but the fact remained that it was a possibility, and when it came to family, the merest sliver of possibility was impossible to ignore. Maybe he'd find a chance to tactfully bring it up. Most likely he'd be too cowardly to.

Hoping he'd be in his room was a roulette game, the man was here there and everywhere most of the time, and it was with caution Rep approached the Sun leader's room. After all, Simon could be in. He peeked around the doorframe carefully.

"Allan taycho, you around mate?"

He always called people mate when he was nervous.

Extremely loud music blared from within the room. Either Allan was keeping a female mechanical singing robot or he was doing that anime idol thing again.

Yes, technically he was inside. No, he probably couldn't hear you over the sound of what sounded like a Japanese robot girl either dying or shouting a battle cry.

Rep winced at the absolute racket from within the room, he had no idea what the hell was going on, but whatever it was it was startlingly loud. This island was making him soft and old, he decided, used to raves loud enough to leave him with ringing ears for days, and here he was, scowling about some noise.

With a deep breath to steady his nerves, he headed in, really hoping he wasn't intruding on anything too embarrassing.

For his own sake. He doubted Allan even knew what embarrassing meant.

Thankfully Rep had just missed Clerise and her magical girl moment and since then the Sun lead had decided to polish up his skills. His singing skills. The karaoke machine was still running, some flashy girl in the background, even as Allan stopped singing in his both amazing and moreso terrifying falsetto. His eyes lit up as he saw the visitor.

"Ah, Rep-kun! How are you?" He waved, though through the blaring speakers, it kind of sounded more like 'A racoon! Hellish too!'

As it dawned on Rep that no, that hadn't been a woman he'd heard singing but probably Allan too, he wasn't sure whether to be impressed or absolutely terrified.

He settled for somewhere in the middle, smiling in what looked very much like a deer in the headlights kind of fashion. "I erm." He couldn't even hear his own voice, like in the middle of a club, fantastic, this was going to be interesting.

He edged a bit closer and raised his voice to a yell over the din. "Sir! I wanted to ask you some things!" He hesitated and added "I can come back later!"

He just had to hope Allan could hear him.

Thankfully the music was put on pause so Rep didn't have to write up eardrum repair as one of his ninety-nine problems.

"Hmmmm...." Allan looked thoughtful, crossing his arms, a little too thoughtful. This was usually bad news. "Okay I got it!" He snapped his fingers, grinning at Rep with a sort of competitive air. "You beat my high score at DDR and then you can ask me anything!"

Before Rep could ask what DDR was, Allan had already turned on the behemoth of a machine, four glowing panels lighting up even as the screen started blasting more obnoxious music. At some interval, a cute 3D girl mascot started explaining the instructions regarding pressing one's foot against glowing arrows even as the Sun Lead enthusiastically dragged Rep to center dance stage.

A pause as Allan selected a song, a small intermission of loading screen. And then arrows started flying everywhereon the screen.

LETS DDR

- Rep has to try his best to mimic the arrows. Look at the 4d10 dice I have roed in this post. This represents the ACTUAL arrows. Now, have Rep try by rolling 4d10 as well. The numbers must match IN ORDER.

Matching 1: You really suck, super fail
Matching 2-3: Okay, but you still fail
Matching 4: You passed the song!
Matching 5: You almost beat Allan's high score.... Divided by two

Feel free to try up to 5 times. When Rep is satisfied with his score, he can stop, otherwise each try is trying the song again.

Things weren't going exactly as Rep had envisaged them, but as far as Allan was concerned, that was probably to be expected, the single thing he could predict about the Sun leader was his unpredictability. So he had to beat a score, then he could ask?

Well, challenges he understood.

"I er.. Okay."

DDR he did not.

Dragged up onto the stage, he watched the instructions with as much attentiveness as he could manage, still absolutely flustered and more than a little dazed. So he had to dance on the arrows? well, he remembered games in the past where the equivalent had to happen on the gamepad or some other kind of plastic guitar. This just involved his body. He figured he could get the hang of it. Maybe.

The first try was more of a learning run than anything else, despite the grim look of determination and effort, his feet just weren't where he wanted them to be when he wanted them and the result was an absolutely woeful score. It was embarrassing as hell - not even the dancing itself but the failure. His expression hardened.

"Again please, I'll get it this time."

This time as the music started, Rep actually managed to keep up for a bit before he got impatient with the arrows and lost his place, going from careful control to floundering in an attempt to get back on track. He didn't manage it, but at least felt like now he was getting the hang of it a little. After all, he'd somehow done the start.

"Best of three!"

The improvement in the previous attempt meant he came at the third attempt with an air of smug arrogance - of course it could only get easier the more he tried it. However, this proved to be completely wrong as his little cocky step meant he felt behind or ahead of the pace of the arrows almost every time, too impatient to time the rhythm spot on.

He refused to give up though.

"Just a few more tries man."

Apparently dancing like this really wasn't his forte, every time the poor score indicators flashed on screen, he found his fury rising and rising like some kind of score gauge of its own. He couldn't manage just this simple thing!

<SO ******** PATIENT.>>

<Quite>

He was finding it difficult to beat his second attempt at all.

"Once more, then I'll give it up." he grudgingly snorted.

For most people, anger was damaging, a distraction that made them make mistakes, made them falter. For Rep anger was power, adrenaline running in his veins. It was raw pure frustration that made him able to ignore his limitations, ignore his hesitance or self conciousness, let him push through and tap into skills he didn't even know he possessed.

He was so angry and determined by the fifth attempt at the song that he didn't have time to think about where his feet were on the floor under him, all that mattered was the arrows and doing this thing right. For whatever reason, this worked a great deal better, and his feet seemed to sort themselves out on their own.

The score racked up as he went and he let the music wash around him like noise on a battlefield.

And then, almost too soon, there were no more arrows, and he was left back in reality outside his little perfect zone of focus. He blinked and raised a brow, looking sheepish as he realised he'd just been one hundred percent serious about what was essentially a dancing game. He'd beaten the level at least, but he still hadn't touched Allan's score. He gave the Sun lead a wry smile.

"Eheh. Yeah, I like. I'm never going to beat your score man. You are way too good at this."

Allan looked pleased, but probably more so because noone would ever beat his super duper awesome DDR record. He even memorized all the songs: that made him even more in tune with his DDR spirit.

"You tried," Allan consoled - entirely missing the fact that this phrase in recent internet trends was actually the reverse of his intention - as he handed Rep a popped bottle of Ramune. Somewhere between DDR and DDR he had forgotten why the Sun Hunter was here anyway, and a small niggling part of him was trying its best to remind him it probably had something to do with-

-Oooh Simon had left a shiny new penny on the counter. Shiny.

"Okay" Allan nodded, pocketing the shiny penny, "Now that you have completed your challenge, I shall complete mine." He was all serious now, "No question is too great or too small, so state your question, shinigami Rep-kun."

Rep took the bottle with a measure of gratefulness, opting for the sake of his pride to ignore the possible sarcastic edge to the comment, he didn't think Allan had the capacity for sarcasm in him at all. He took a sip of the ramune thoughtfully before replying.

It was complicated, this was Allan he was speaking to, Rep was pretty sure that for all the caring the guy did, about his divisions and the Suns in it, he wouldn't care about some pointless breeding program and the genetics therein. He doubted the validity of the information would matter even a fraction to him in his personal bubble of vague reality. But he had to at least mention it while he was here, he had to know if Mark was taking the piss, winding him up for a laugh and toying with him. Whether Allan would know one way or the other was anyone's guess.

"I guess before I ask what I like really came here to ask I should mention like. I was talking to Mark, had him look some stuff up on the network. It, like. Said we were like, related and stuff. I don't know if you leader type dudes get like more access to check these things or whatever man, or if Simon would know. But I just figured I'd say. I mean, not that it matters for anything." He waved a hand vaguely, waving it off, pretending it wasn't as important as he felt it was, that he wasn't putting himself in a vulnerable spot just by mentioning it. "I've just like, never had any family or anything. And it would be nice I guess if he like..wasn't making an idiot out of me, and I guess just figured you should know."

He cleared his throat which felt suddenly dry and took another sip of the drink before adding. "That's not what I came here to ask though."

He tried to quickly push past it, unwilling to make the conversation awkward and determined to give Allan a conversational out. "I came to ask about controlling my charges and not chopping people's arms off with them."

At the family comment the Sun lead gave Rep a fond smile, letting the other say their peace. "Being a Hunter," Allan began slowly, putting heavy emphasis on the word, as opposed to his ten-thousand pet words for the same term, "You are always fighting. You always have to live everything to the fullest, and promise that by doing so you help others, your comrades."

The Sun lead took a second to point to the wall, where a few pictures were hanging. One was an extremely girly pink poster that said "Mahou Shoujo Puella Magi while another one was more obviously prominent. Rep's drawing, framed. "Nakama," Allan confirmed, expression resolute, "It means you keep on trying for others, that you remember when you need someone the most, your nakama, everyone here, everyone as a Hunter, will be here for you. I believe we were always family, I believe in you, Rep-kun, and if you need Mark-kun to tell you what you already know, you need to search your kokoro harder. And that does mean control, power is also controlling it, using it for good. What has happened has happened, but what is more important is you learn from it, from your mistakes, and most of all, it is up to you to feel like you can be trusted again, to your friend, to me and to your other nakama." He paused, idly swinging his bottle, "Just remember Rep-kun, with great power equals an uncontrollable bankai."
