It’s that time of the year again! You can feel it in the air. The thrum and hum of holidays. The time when Jack brought to light the other worlds. When Halloween almost gave the humans the best Christmas ever. Maybe. Either way, Christmas is coming and even the simplest of scarelings could see the signs. Shops offering certain colored alternates. Minipets turning weird colors, candy canes growing like weeds here and there. Peppermint in the air, overpowering the smell of pumpkin spice. Plus it might be feeling a bit colder, but then the news said it wouldn’t snow. Not this year. The weatherman promised. And you could always trust the news. Weathermen especially. For Amityville, Christmas came with a little something extra. Well, aside from rumors of the apple cider dealer down by the other bathroom being back in business. No, it came with the yearly Christmas play. Promises of no suffering, no kidnapped persons from other worlds, no fighting, and most importantly: No Holiday Invaders. The theater was busy, gnomes running all over the place, cleaning it out, setting up this and that while one red hell spawn sat comfortably in a balcony section. Occasionally you could hear yelling and cursing from the pit another with the crash of instruments but hey- apparently this year it would be minipet free, (the rumors of aromatic mushrooms and foxfires had been apparently true after all). Outside of the theater the flyers decorate the halls in bright red and green white. Quote: THE CHRISTMAS SONG By Charley Dicks
Tryouts happening on the 16th of October, Three to Seven. Bring exerts for your reading. Props optional. Audience welcome to attend! Better brush up on your acting!

THE OOC It’s time for the Third annual Christmas Play! This year it is a non-musical production of a Halloween variation of the classic: A Christmas Carol. Running much the same as the year previous, trying out does not mean you get a role, (you may try out for the sake of earning RP points, just be sure to note at the end of your post), but getting a role is a COMMITMENT. Last year players were INCREDIBLE with keeping the play running, and so the system will be re-used for this year as well. There are a total of 23 ‘parts’ in the play. You may tryout for only one roll, (But you are free to say if your character is open for other roles!), and if you are chosen, you are COMMITING to making posts when it is your ‘cue’. Keep in mind if you drop out, other players are going to be held back. To counter this, there are going to be ‘backup’ actors and actresses. They might be asked to fill in any spot so if your student is okay with being backup should they not be chosen, please make an OOC note at the bottom of your try out post. If you get chosen and cannot make a post, or, have other matters to deal with, you’ll need to notify iStoleYurVamps AND one of the ‘backups’ ASAP. We know real life happens, and with it being the start of the holidays, there will be some time management going on. ‘Major’ Roles students may try out for: ( 8 ) Narrator Ebenezer Scrooge Bob Scratchit Jay Bob Marley Ghost of Christmas Past Ghost of Christmas Present Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come Tiny Tom ‘Minor’ Roles students may try out for: (15) Fred and George Scrooge Scrooge Wives of Fred and George Scrooge Spawn x 4 (do not all have to be filled) Mrs. Dilber Old Poe Mrs. Scratchit Scratchit Spawn x 4 (do not all have to be filled) For the sake of speed and story, several elements have been CUT. If your student is interested in being a part of the play yet not an actor, such as tech crew, band, or perhaps even stage manager- These are also VIABLE ROLES that your student may try out for. They must, unlike actors reading excerpts, simply ‘pitch’ why they should be given the role/job of choice. ON EXCERPTS: Your student doesn’t have to read things from the actual play. The play itself is LOOSE and basically AD-LIB IMPORMPT. So long as it fits the story, it works. Just remember it’s Halloween so feel free to add a bit of Halloween town flair to your try outs! If you have any questions please PM iStoleYurVamps! Note- Horsemen and Guest students cannot tryout, but they are free to attend and watch!

Terra hesitated, feeling extremely awkward and knowing, just KNOWING that she was making a mistake. But, she thought, there was nothing wrong with failing! Stubbornly she squared her shoulders and headed onto the stage, glancing back to Roch’s ghoulfriend, who she knew was watching and waiting for her own turn. “My name is Terra Bethel Scythe,” she said. “I am trying out for the part of Mrs. Scratchitt. But I will play any of the parts--or if you need, I can help with the music,” she said, bowing slightly. Then she took a deep breath, trying to get into character. “Mr. Scratchitt! I do not see why we need to be thankful to the very rude Mr. Scrooge!” she said in her Spanish accent. “He has done no good things for any of us! He works you too hard! He is muy muy--“ She stopped. “Can I start over? I did not mean to use a different language.” She took a deep breath, trying to focus. She had to speak COMMON, she told herself. “Mr. Scratchitt! Although you are my husband, you are very much an idiota!” ........ She’d just done it again. “I think I would also like to try out for the band,” she said, groaning. “Because clearly I cannot speak proper common, yo soy estupida,” she muttered, feeling like a complete moron as she summoned her weapon. “I have been playing the violin for five years, it is my weapon, as you can see.” Her tone wasn’t nearly as excited as when she’d been trying out. But she slipped a pedal out of her pocket, attaching it to her violin, and started playing a song. Shen she had finished she bowed slightly. “Please consider me, I will work very hard at correcting my speech,” she added. She soooo wasn’t going to get a part, she thought with a sigh. But oh well, she had tried!

Eisheth had some strange feeling about Christmas: she heard about it, of course, but didn't know much about the holiday itself (not to mention the world of Christmas). One of the biggest cultural gaps, she encountered in Halloween, was the sheer concept of Joy, joy and fun, two things she were having a hard time fitting in her picture of the world. She could get used to Proms and fairs, concerts and festivals, - Halloween as a big city with its busy life was overwhelming, but understandable, yet the Christmas was a bit too much. Christmas itself looked like the climax of that concept: joy came alive stronger than Fear, and that alchemist could not fully realize. Students attending the tryouts were trying to perform: apparently it was a well-known play, so everyone were supposed to know at least the general plot; Eisheth never heard about it, though, a cultural background problem. Watching the first ghoul's try in amusement, she tried to follow her monologue, but alas, could not get a clue of what's going on: perhaps, she has to stay a bit longer. But then, the ghoul seemed to want the role, any kind of role really badly, even if her accent was quite terrible (even worse the the horsemen's), and she didn't seem to remember the text. " Why would one like to participate in the performance so much?", she asked when the ghoul finished. " Is it somehow important?". She wasn't kidding: Eisheth really had no idea about all that play thing.

Terra looked at the strange person blankly. "It is the school play," she said finally. "There will be many chances to meet friends and make memories, and to be part of something larger than oneself. I try to be part of it because it seems like it will be fun!" she finished, grinning brightly. "I am new, and I do not know many people, and this is one way to change that, you see?"

Silently, Amarus watched the student go on stage and audition. She caught herself about to tilt her head, and intervened, rather than let the bell sound ring out again-- not that it would go noticed, given how noisy the rest of the area seemed to be. She did not really make herself known until she heard two ghouls talking, one of whom asked what was important about the Christmas play. "It's just fun, as far as I know," she interjected, probably rudely, before slipping past them to get to the stage. She didn't really know a lot of students either, so what the ghoul named Terra (whom she'd never met, really) had said was true as well. But Amarus would never admit so much as that. "Oh... it's also nice to come to the play and the auditions to support friends," she added, having turned around to look at them. Last year, she'd really enjoyed watching her friends audition.
Getting up on stage, she allowed herself to hover, instead of standing flat-footed as if walking on the ground like she normally would, and she announced: "I will be auditioning for the part of Ghost of Christmas Past, though I would like any of the ghostly roles I suppose, and do not mind filling in elsewhere as needed. I am a Ghost, after all, and can do the whole disappearing thing, but... well, perhaps I am not drab enough." Amarus was, indeed, quite colourful. Nothing a costume change couldn't fix.
She shut her eyes and focused herself into as much intangibility and transparency as she could manage at Y2, and announced, in this transparent state: "I have come here tonight not to tell you what you would like to hear," she strode briskly across the stage, silent, and then focused herself into tangibility again to open her eyes and continue: "but to be blunt with you, and show you what brought you to this state you are in."
She vanished again, and, disembodied, this time she spoke as she moved: "I am here tonight to tell you that you have done wrong, but above that, I am here to show you your past transgressions." She reappeared at centre-stage, standing with her hands clasped in front of her, staring eerily and precisely forward. "Before your time with me is through, you will see-- though I cannot say that you will understand-- how what you have done has shaped the past. We will see if you can stomach the sight of it."
With that, Amarus paused at length, bowed, and let herself off the stage.

Gene made her way into the theatre, giving the director a little wave of greeting, before stepping on the stage. She had proper posture, full of confidence as she'd actually studied for her part this time. It would be a short audition, but a stunning and hopefully winning one.
"My name is Genevieve, and I'm auditioning for the part of the Ghost of Christmas Past."
Inhaling, the ghoul began to imagine an older version of herself, around 40. Crow's feet, a tight bun, a few laugh lines, a bit of a pudge. Then she did the same process for a childish version of herself, at around 10. Free flowing hair, an undeveloped body. Age 80 now, with the looks of a happy life full of wonder, laugh lines very evident, and her hair long and tied in an elaborate braid. She shuffled between the images at random in intervals of ten seconds, before shifting back to her normal form.
"And I think that, Professor Renegath, will be satisfactory. She said with a little hip pop, walking off stage.

Sometimes he wondered if I was wound a little too easily around Danny's finger. Right now happened to be one of those times and he shuffled towards the stage nervously after Gene. For some reason, Gene auditioning meant Danny had to audition which meant Rikki had to audition or he was the worst. Or something like that.
He'd researched the play a little last night, but to be entirely honest he had no idea what he was doing. He'd never been in a play, had never acted more than to lie to his parents. So all of this? Yeah it was terrifying.
He'd worn one of his black hoodies for the occasion. It had a big enough hood that when he pulled it up just before shuffling awkwardly to the middle of the stage it cast his entire face in shadow so you couldn't see his features. Other than that though, he hadn't done much. His chains jingled loudly as he stood there awkwardly.
"I'm Nyyrikki Synkka, and I... want to audition for the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come?" Which... how did he do that? From what he read, yet to come - and it was a miracle he wasn't laughing every time he thought the name, really - never spoke. Just pointed. So....
"To be or not to be?" He tried, because that was from a play right? He thought it was from a play. It sounded like it was from a play. He gave a quick bow, careful to keep his face shadowed by his hood, more out of embarrassment now, and then quickly skipped off the stage.

The explanation she got wasn't really satisfying. " But why do you need to knwo more people?", she wondered. It didn't seem rational at all: you should know only those who are useful for you; randomly looking for new contacts only creates a mess in you social network, thought the alchemist. " Besides, there are plenty of people here around, if you need to know somebody why not approaching each of them one by one, introducing yourself?" Eisheth was in a philosophic mood today :/

Terra looked at the horseman blankly. "But I want friends--not people whose name I know, only," she said--only to stop as a newly familiar figure stepped onto the stage. "Name's Roch Scythe," he said. "I'd like to audition for the music. It ain't gonna be such a big thing this time, just background and intermission stuff, right?" he said, holding out his hand and summoning his guitar. "For experience--well, hell, I did the score for last year's play, I figure I can pull this off. I'm willin' t'work with any musician that's willing to work with me, and I'd rather not be on the stage itself." He tuned his guitar, then spoke up again, "I don't have anything prepared for this one, so I'll just toss this out," he said, starting to play. When he was done he shrugged. "I gotta get back t'my club room. Thanks for listening," he finished, slipping his guitar over his shoulder and walking off the stage. --- Terra felt a frown pull at her lips before she turned back to the horseman. "I am going to be living with these people for the next three years, senora," she said. "I do not wish to spend those years alone."

Eisheth still was not sure she got the concept correctly. " I'm much older than you, so take what I'm saying with a grain of salt", she replied calmly. " But from what I know, ghoul, you can't get friends from participating in a collective form of activity, like this performance. You need to experience together something faaar more memorable... but then again, given in mind it's Amityville, I doubt you'd have any problems with that kind of experience". For may be the first time after they arrived to Halloween the horseman actually felt how old is she, and her people, comparing to those joyful scarelings ready to explore the world around and go beyond, - and for a first time may be in her entire life it felt like a burden.

Big brothers, Jove had concluded, were nothing but trouble. Ren had insisted on this, and there was no going against his brother when he had his mind set on doing something "fun". This time "fun" was trying out for the school play, something the pup had attended the prior year when it was interrupted by giant rats and whatnot. Ren thought he could do it, go up on that stage and act like the others had, but that meant lots and lots of speaking. It made the pup feel nervous.
He hesitated at every step up to the stage, pushed onwards with thoughts of Ren physically pushing him up those stairs if he backed down, and then next thing he knew, he was standing on wobbly legs at the center of the stage.
The auditorium was SO BIG from up there, with all those chairs and empty air. A little squeak slipped from his throat and just disappeared into that huge emptiness. The pup scanned the crowd for Ren with big, scared eyes. Ren promised he would be there!
Jove swallowed heavily, he was supposed to say something, wasn't he? Something about the part, or a line or... what was it he was supposed to say? After a minute of looking lost and waif-like, he began to look a little ill.

Danny was just here to support her friends. She'd never been a theatrical type, though she was certainly dramatic. Gene had been talking about auditioning in passing though, and Danny actually looked at the advertising poster to see a figure that looked like Rikki's. So of course she'd nagged him to come and try out too.
She whooped and hollered after Gene and Rikki's audition, and subsequently after Roch's as well.
Loud noises galore.

Rengath did, on occasion, remember students. Or rich at the very least, despite his notes written down having the boil listed as 'Roach'. But this one- this one was new. Wait. Wait just a jacking second. Leaning forward in his seat Rengath eyed Jove with curiosity before asking very loudly. "Who enchanted one of the foxfires to look like a student? We just cleaned the ruddy pit and I'm not having another infestation." Even if the costume department had gotten a nice authentic foxfire fur coat out of it.
