An audible 'blargh' made it out of Zia's mouth as she trudged home, fumbling around until she managed to balance her to-go coffee, baseball bat, and key chain to figure out which one was the loft key.

And when she found it, just realized it was unlocked anyway. She frowned, trying to figure out if Magiore was supposed to be home tonight or not and if he was if he'd be in bed by this hour, and managed to free up enough fingers to tumble inside.

Yup. There he was.

"Oh... Hey..." She suddenly looked like a deer in the headlights. Zia had gotten lazy with her appearance, lately, but her monster fighting clothes took the cake with a messy ponytail and ripped jeans, and for some reason she sort of cared if Magiore thought she was going off the rails.

She had entered into this roommate agreement thing like a businesslike professional, after all. It was nice knowing there was someone out there who kind of thought she could still act like that, even if she went through pretty intense scheduling to avoid dumping any crazy on him and ruin the illusion of it all even just a few months ago had a several week long love affair with the couch and Netflix account and couldn't be moved except for work. Being mildly depressed and super into old TV shows was a little different than coming home this late looking like she'd been at the batting cages. Or was it?

After a moment, she cleared her throat and left the bat at the doorway, making her way over to the kitchen to root around for food and also kind of avoid conversing too much.

Three months, two weeks, and six days.

They'd been roommates for three months, two weeks, and six days, and yet Magiore had only seen Zia perhaps three or four times during the entire period of time.

Not that he really minded. He supposed if they were so-called "regular" roommates, he might have been a little confused, perhaps even irritated. But seeing as how he had his own life to worry about it - and his duties as a Lieutenant were steadily building - it had actually been somewhat of a relief to be able to come home and not have to explain anything to anyone. And Zia was...pleasant enough, he supposed, though it was difficult to gauge her exact personality when they had hardly spent more than a few moments in the same room.

At the moment, Magiore was sitting on the black leather couch in the living room, his feet propped up on the glass topped coffee table, idly flipping through the channels. There was, as always, nothing good on, but there was something to be said about watching crap TV.

The scrape of a key in a lock caught his attention. Magiore glanced at his watch, frowned a little, and then looked back up as the door to the loft swung open and Zia staggered in, balancing what looked to be several very odd things in her arms.

"...evening," said Magiore, arching his brows. He hadn't exactly been expecting to see her - and was that a bat? What on Earth was she doing with a baseball bat? Zia Connolly did not look like the type of person to get down and dirty in the fields, but maybe appearances could be deceiving.

She was now in the kitchen, and though Magiore's eyes had moved back to the TV, he wasn't really paying much attention to it.

"...there's some leftover Chinese food, if you want," he said, after a moment of silence.

"Oh awesome," Zia half said to herself once she found the Chinese food box, and then half a sleeve of Oreos in the pantry. In various stages of depression, Zia had keep caches of sweets all over the place, but hadn't been as diligent about keeping them stocked since she had decided to attempt getting back in shape.

She chugged the last of her coffee and tossed the cup in the trash before gathering up her loot and leaning in the kitchen doorway, debating her options. The smart, prudent thing to do would be go chow down in her room, but Zia had a weird thing about eating in her living space. Crumbs, crumbs and ants and you would never escape them. It was a little too ingrained to even face logic like she was a-okay to eat on the sofa but not in the same vicinity as her bed.

"Whatcha watchin'?" She ended up finally asking after a long debate with herself about how smart she was feeling. Casual conversation couldn't hurt, right? Though she seemed more interested in picking through the take out box in her hand than making eye contact.

He heard her raiding through the fridge and a second later she came back into view, a box of Chinese food and a package of cookies in her hands. She looked a little tired to him, but considering that Magiore hardly ever saw Zia, it was not as if he could really judge her state of mind.

He lifted his cup of tea, took a sip, and settled down further onto the couch. It was a new mixture this time, Earl Grey with a hint of orange. The show that was currently playing now was some sort of weird supernatural show, with a lot of blood and guts and swearing. Not exactly to his taste, but all things considered, it was better than staring off into space.

Zia's question startled him. Magiore glanced up at her, brows rising in surprise, but she was fiddling with her food and wasn't looking at him, thankfully not seeing his look of surprise.

"Um," he said brilliantly, and looked at the television.

"Not sure, really. I think it's some sort of...sci-fi show..."

There was another pause.

"Do you wanna sit down to eat? It might be, er, easier."

Zia definitely didn't see the surprise, but probably wouldn't have thought too much of it. She nodded a bit at the sitting thing and after taking her own sweet time shoving all the peppers in the mix of food she'd loaded the take out box with to the side, she walked over to flop on the couch next to him.

And took a more serious note of what he was watching the second she saw blood flying.

She turned to quirk an eyebrow at Magiore. She was totally judging him.

"Seriously?"

Not that she was squeamish about gore, it just seemed like a strange source of entertainment for a guy who drank citrus smelling teas and had really fabulous hair.

It felt...really weird having Zia home (or rather, back at the loft, since despite the place technically being "home" Magiore was not entirely certain that he considered it to be so), but he said nothing, merely flicked a semi-curious glance in her direction.

His gaze moved to the television, where currently someone was slicing off the head of some weird toothy thing.

"Well," said Magiore, not entirely defensively. "It was the only thing on and, well..."

He shrugged, tapping the remote absently against his leg and added, with just the faintest touch of amusement, "Why, what did you expect? Something dark and brooding and serious?"

Zia felt weird hanging out herself. She spent more time out of the loft than in it and when she was there she was usually locked up in her room. She nodded a little at the only thing on bit and laughed.

"I don't know, man, I'm not entirely sure about anything. What do you even do?"

Weird question was generic and weird, but it was hard to think of something more personable to ask when you didn't know a person.

He eyed her curiously for a moment, head tilted like a bird contemplating a human, but then he gave the smallest of shrugs, mostly to himself.

"What do I do?" Magiore repeated, after taking a sip of his tea, which was getting lower. He would have to make some more eventually, but he lowered the cup slowly, contemplating the question.

"Well, I make things out of metal normally...I suppose it could be considered some sort of art form. And I, er...read. A lot."

The awkwardness was nearly palpable. How did one communicate with the person you were living with but didn't hardly know, anyway?

Metalwork would not have been Zia's first assumption, but then again she was asking because she was out of guesses. Entirely blank slates were difficult to work with.

"Mm!" She remembered him wearing a necklace on occasion, but when the thought occurred to her, her mouth was full and she spent the delay before she could talk with just some awkward pointing. "Did you make that... um," She just kind of made a gesture where it usually hung, hoping he got the hint.

She was half tempted to ask him what he read but that seemed like a stupid question considering they were sharing living space and she was sure she should've figured that out by now. She hadn't, but she figured.

Magiore blinked bemusedly at Zia, momentarily flummoxed at her question. Then he realized what exactly she was gesturing towards, and he reached inside of his shirt, pulling the necklace out from under the collar.

"You mean this?" he asked, the little silver cross dangling from his thin fingers, which were well worn from constant working. "Yes, I made it. It's called silver brazing, though there are different terms. I usually work with smaller, easier metals, rather than large scale projects."

He gave a shrug, realizing he'd volunteered more information than he was used to, and absently tugged on a lock of his hair.

"I dunno. It's kind of relaxing to me, I guess."

"That's really cool," Zia bordered on gushing before stuffing her mouth with cookies and glancing back to the TV to see if she could glean any sort of plot besides stab-the-monsters. She still liked shiny things, it was a topic of interest to her. And she'd noticed his necklace all of the other times she'd seen him wear it, even if times she saw him period were scarce enough she could count them on one hand.

"OH! Sherlock," She said finally when it hit her. She knew she saw some books around and it totally had nothing to do with being super nosy and more than a little curious about what was in his general space when he was gone, or anything, except that was totally it. "You're in to mysteries. See, I'm totally not a terrible roommate," She said with a laugh. Well... she honestly didn't think she was. Rent was made on time and with the exception of tonight she didn't bother him.

Still, there was something to be said for the massive gaps in knowledge. Especially when Zia would totally accidentally-on-purpose look in your belongings if she didn't think she would get caught or called out.

He graced her with a small sort of smile that was more confused than anything else and leaned a bit further back into the couch, idly twisting the silver cross around one finger.

Magiore's head whipped around abruptly, cheeks pinking ever so slightly. "Er," he said, mildly embarrassed by the fact that she had noticed, though he cleared his throat, pulled his hair back away from his face and said, in a deliberately casual tone of voice, "Yeah, Sherlock Holmes is a good series that I enjoy."

He gave her a wry smile.

"And you're not a terrible roommate. Just an absent one."

"Mm, sophisticated mysteries does seem like more of a matching... thing..." Zia said with a nod, obvious to his embarrassment. Probably because she was really intently focusing on being as much of a garbage disposal as possible without accidentally eating anything she didn't like.

She did look up and nod in agreement, though she kept her mouth shut, thankfully, since it was stuffed by that point. It took an awkward while before she managed to swallow and articulate her answer.

"True. Maybe. Work sucks, I guess. Work sucks and I have a boyfriend, so..." Which was the worst excuse she'd come up with yet since 'spending the night' at her boyfriend's was more like stumbling in at two in the morning because she was too afraid of awkwardness to hang around too long and if anything, prompted her to sleep in her own bed even more.

"What've you been doing with yourself?"

He cleared his throat a little, but Zia was just being...Zia...and as awkward as it might be, he didn't actually mind her. She was hardly around, that was for sure, but when she was, she wasn't bad company.

He just was unused to her, that was all.

Magiore arched a brow, interested in spite of himself. "You have a boyfriend?" he said, and a small smile tugged at his lips. "Really. I never knew that. Though," he conceded. "We don't know that much about each other to start off with. What's his name?"

Wondering if he was prying too much, he cleared his throat again.

Oh, just running around being a Lieutenant in a secret organization that exists to purify the world and rid it of unnecessary beings.

"Not much, really. Just relaxing, mostly. I'm out of school, so there's really not much to do at the moment."

"Yeah, he's kind of a new addition," Zia muttered, shifting uncomfortably. "Pascal. Huge nerd." Nope. Nope nope nope they weren't going to talk about this, Pascal was only brought up as an excuse for her absenteeism and she was not going to talk about him like she cared or anything.

She pounced on his next topic in a desperate attempt to change this subject train around to him.

"Oh, school. What were you going to school for? Or did you just finish high school? Are you working towards anything or just hanging out because man I thought I knew exactly what was what when I was in Sovereign Heights and then it was like bam! Nope! But god, it's not like there are tons of options anyway when Destiny City hangs around your neck like an anchor, yanno?"
