Poa Subiani had thought that being knocked out by Maraba Edi meant that the fighting was over and he could spend the rest of the festival sleeping and relaxing and not worrying about it any more. Unfortunately he'd also forgotten that there losing his round meant being entered into the duel for third place. He'd been sleeping - as planned - when a paw had poked him roughly in the ribs, followed by a voice:
"Poa, if you don't get up now you're going to be disqualified. Come on."
In his sleep fuzzed mind he thought it might have been his sister, Laka, but suddenly he was on his paws, blinking blearily around him. "What?"
"Go, go, go. You're up against Udada! Eeva's already there and waiting. You've not got long befor they announce you a no-show."
And though a small voice in his had was despairing at being interrupted from the most wonderful of sleeps, Poa was hastening back towards the 'battle ground' to find his next opponent - his first Ela'wadiyi born opponent, too. He knew the lion when they had met very briefly before, which fortunately made finding him a lot easier than if it had been a joining rogue. Still, he spotted Eeva first who pointed him in the right direction.
By the time he had arrived, sleep had been chased away. He was mostly ready.
"Ur...sorry I'm late." He replied, not trying to appear too ruffled and hurried. "I'm ready to begin now."

Like Poa, Udadalvsvli had assumed after taking a brutal loss to Yemini, that he was done. It had not been a very good battle for the lion, and while he conceded that the rogue lioness had been superior in the art of movement, he also knew that his mind had not . . . was not . . .as focused as it should have been.
Even in his battle against Witu, he had struggled to keep his mind in the game. Unfortunately, with such a loss against the female lioness, he had other worries to think about. Had Eeva noticed? Had she watched him get (in his opinion) rather decimated? So much for putting his tree battling to good use. . . It was obvious he had much yet to learn, and he worried that perhaps she might think less of him. After all, she often boasted that he would be a good aid to have against intruders, or should trouble arise. . . but his poor performance at Sky Ceremony made him wonder if she'd take back those remarks.
Well, there was more to think about than fighting, anyway. He still had to figure out what to do about his thoughts, his feelings, and what to tell Eeva. The blue eyed lion was fairly sure he knew, but he worried. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to consider his predicament. Word passed quickly he was up to battle a new challenger, for third placement.
. . .so his fighting wasn't quite over yet. Well.
Perhaps he'd get lucky and make up for his earlier mistakes.
Udadalvsvli had been surprised, while waiting on the grounds, that his opponant was none other than Eeva's brother, Poa Subiani. This would make things more or less interesting, depending on the fall out. "No apologies needed," he reassured, offering a low bow to the lion. "It's an honor to battle you this day."

Poa Subiani gave a short bow of his head before straightening and taking a small step back to assess the situation. For them to both be in this round probably meant they were roughly equal as fighters and, with them both having the same number of fights behind them it was likely that they were already starting this with less energy than they would have liked. Poa himself was already far too aware of the bruises on his person and even knowing that another fight lay ahead didn't quite give him the necessary strength to push them to the back of his mind.
His ear twitched and fell to the side, picking out the voices of his family. He'd not noticed them before but now they seemed annoyingly close.
"I fight for Mantis Clan today." He continued. For both the Subiani family and the Kalisetsi. He hoped he would not have to suffer another defeat. Twice in one day would be a little hard to take.
And, deciding to get things started, Poa leapt closer to his adversary and swung out with a testing paw. It was by no means a forceful attack, more a jab than anything, but he figured it would be a good way to test the waters and see how quick off the mark his opponent was. To say that he was wary would have been right. If he felt so determined not to lose for a second time then no doubt Udadalvsvli would be having similar thoughts himself.

Udadalvsvli was as tired and sore as his companion. While he could say he thoroughly enjoyed the Sky Ceremony, his body was already beginning to object to the amount of abuse he'd been sustaining. He was used to pushing himself when he sparred occasionally with those in Bird Clan, but if Yamini taught him anything, it was that he had a lot to learn. Maybe he could talk to some newly joined rogues in Bird Clan. Perhaps they might have a few new moves they could teach him, a few tricks he hadn't thought of during his time within the pride.
"I fight for Bird Clan," . . . and (if he was completely honest with himself) Eeva too, but that was his own little secret. Unfortunately, if he were a true knight fighting for the fair lady, this would have been a pretty shameful battle. Maybe that was the problem, though, he wasn't so sure the good lady might actually want him to think or do such a thing.
No. Couldn't think. Even if he had caught sight of the brown coated lioness on the sidelines. Even if he knew she was there, somewhere.
When Poa rushed and swatted at him, Udadalvsvli liked to believe himself ready. He took the hit, surprised -- but grateful -- that the other hadn't put much force behind it. Instead, he batted at Poa himself, giving him a taste of his own medicine in retaliation.

The retaliating paw that came at him certainly had more force behind it than his own one had. It struck him along he side of his nose, startling him more than he thought it would have. Okay, so the lion might have been battle-weary but he was still quick. He'd need to be careful! However, Poa was not going to be so careful that he was going to retreat just yet. Instead, he moved to circle around his opponent with a few hastily made steps and threw out another jabbing paw, aimed for a shoulder this time, instead.
Perhaps if he could aggravate an injury caused by a previous fight he might be able to get the upper-hand and end this quickly. He didn't think he had the stamina to last as long as he had with Maraba. Poa had meant to hold back a little in that battle but that had certainly not gone to plan. Instead of reserving energy for a potential place in the final, he'd expended everything he had.
If only he had remembered about the third place position! Then again, he had been fighting to win. Second and third paled in comparison.

Udadalvsvli had expected the other to retaliate, but hadn't thought he would land a blow on top of his shoulder. Not just his shoulder, but in the same spot he'd been bit in one of his previous battles. Regardless, it actually hurt more than he had thought the swat might have. He tried to keep his wince from showing, but his bruised and battered body was quite upset at the rounds of mistreatment given to him.
The sooner this was over, the better for them both, regardless who might win.
So it was, the lion gave a pounce, hoping he might catch Poa off guard and at best, tackle him. Sadly, in a move similar to what happened with Yamini earlier, he found himself bungling the move and misjudging his pounce.
. . . . no. No, no, no. Focus. Even though he'd already lost the championship, he didn't want to be defeated twice. He'd lose all credibility about his abilities, and all of his training would have looked for naught if that happened.

He sidestepped the misjudged pounce that Udadalvsvli made, feeling suddenly empowered by it. His competitor had made a mistake which meant he had the edge that he needed. Perhaps he had found a weak spot, after all. And maybe it could be manipulated to see him through to victory.
With a small snort, Poa decided to give his paws a rest and chose to rush him instead, intending to bump up against his adversary's shoulder and send him stumbling. If he did that then maybe this could be a shorter battle than even he had planned. His heart, leaping with hope, pounded against his ribs as he made his attempt to execute the attack.
A few well aimed strikes might be all that stood between him and victory!

Where his opponent intended to push him down and over, Udadalvsvli was ready for the rush. Poa was able to cause the Bird Clan lion to stumble, but not enough for him to go down. Instead, the lion used the close proximity to his advantage. His paws weren't steady enough to be used, so the lion decided to use his his head instead.
That's right.
With Poa right there, and not willing to use his teeth, the lion instead attempted to ram the other with his sturdy head and shoulders. It would give him enough time, hopefully, to better get his paws underneath him. It also might not be something the other would expected. He aimed for Poa's own chest and shoulders, hoping he might knock him over, or at least to the side so Uda'dalvsvli could get some distance between the two for a better plan of action.

And down he went.
The impact drove Poa straight off of his paws, leaving him winded and struggling to decide which way was up and which way was down. His own attack had not been enough to ward Uda away and now he was bearing the brunt of that mistake. With dust in his nose, he twisted back onto his paws and lashed out blindly, hoping to trip up his adversary and send him stumbling again. Unfortunately his paw met nothing - Udadalvsvli having already successfully manoeuvred out of harm's way.
"Caught me off guard, there." He grunted, shaking his mane so that it resettled more comfortable across his neck. "That'll teach me."
