The Underwater Labyrinth: Quest

Underwater Labyrinth:

Requirements: You will need to PRP "researching" up this area (again a prp with your characters just discovering this information in a book is fine), before heading off on this quest. One person will need to be the dungeon master of this quest line: you can have a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 6 characters in this quest. Due to not taking forever, the "Dungeon Master" has control of the pacing: even if not everyone replies, it is okay to go the next round as long as it makes sense from the Dungeon Master's POV.

Historical IC background: The Underwater Labyrinth itself is submerged underwater in the Human World, close to Halloween. It was once a prison where they kept the most terrible of the Ancient Gods, ones who called themselves Titans. Signs of their power can even be seen below, from the blasted dank stone walls to the strange inscriptions and runes that litter each doorway and cell. While the labyrinth inside is dank, it is thankfully void of water.

The Underwater Labyrinth portals randomly spawn to the area but they are very much by chance. The highest chance of portals spawning to that exact location is by parking yourself in the Weeping Forest.

gaia_crown [ Getting Started: ]

Getting into the Underwater Labyrinth: - You need to camp out in the Weeping Forest after reading the information. Hunters can enter Halloween as well without a golem (recommended as the Labyrinth itself is very golem unfriendly due to its climate and high altitude as well as natural enemies), for a max of 30 minutes. Each roll takes 5 IC minutes - students can pretty much park here as long as they need as well as horsemen while Hunters will need to exit and enter back again.
- All players roll 1d100.
- Rolling 50 or less will let players find a portal that randomly leads to someone's house. Feel free to RP this as you please as awkwardly as you please
- Rolling 80 or less will let players find a portal that leads to the Land of Holidays. Right now is really not the time for Xmas cheer...and the creatures there seem extremely hostile
- Rolling 90 or less will lead you to the Haunted House.
- Rolling 91 or higher will let you find the portal! Success! You can now proceed inside.

Truth to be told, Xiu wasn't really sure how this had happened. One minute, she was idly flipping through books in the library and just happened to stumble over a short sentence about an "Underwater Labyrinth", and the next minute, she was surrounded by stacks upon stacks of encyclopedias and textbooks in search of more information on this mysterious place. From what she had learned so far, the labyrinth was somewhere in the Human World, but she hadn't had much luck in gathering any more information beyond that. She was certain that some of the books she had grabbed must contain some more information on the topic, but the act of leafing through all of them one by one was proving to be quite the time-consuming task.

Especially since her desk looked just Arel's, with the only difference being that all the stacks of paperwork had instead been substituted by a bunch of heavy looking tomes.

It proved especially frustrating when, after poring over a book in search of information, it only contained a short line of the one fact that she already knew. Yes, she knew that this "Underwater Labyrinth" (apparently) existed, and yes, she knew that it was in the Human World and somewhere close to Halloween...but surely there was more to it than that! Truth to be told, Xiu wasn't entirely sure just what it was about this topic that fascinated her, but...wouldn't it be amazing if she and her friends could go and seek out this fabled labyrinth? It would be quite the adventure to be sure!

And so, despite her frustrations, the baku continued to plow on, dumping aside one book to grab yet another one off the pile to skim though.

During his time at Amityville, West had only been in the library a handful of times, and even then, he had only perused the stacks on purpose twice. He didn't have any particular aversion to the place, he just had little use for a building full of books that didn't also have giant exploding scorpions burrowing through it or a human infestation of some sort for him to quash.

Today, however, he found himself gravitating toward the place for no clear reason other than the pull of his own curiosity. He was aware that a lot had happened since they had rescued those kidnapped students from the hunters, but West knew of it all only through rumors. He didn't think the library would be able to tell him much about current events, but he had plenty of other questions the books might have answers to.

Or, he could just ask Xiu.

He hadn't expected to find anyone he knew surrounded by such a ridiculous assortment of tomes as he rounded the corner, but there the ghoul was. For a moment West asked himself if there was some lengthy homework assignment he had missed, but once he had assured himself that there was not, he closed the distance to the baku's table rather quickly, hefting one of the lighter books and peering at its title.

"Undersea Explorations with Farrell Darkhammer," he read, his voice slow but not particularly quiet. "What's all this then?" It seemed the boil was much less apprehensive around the other demon when her expression looked more like Ò_ó than OvO.

Just having the books in her dorm was kind of a comfort. Occasionally, Levi brought a magazine, book or encyclopedia to her room just to keep up the intellectual non existent part of her brain. Sometimes she took out agricultural volumes due to sheer curiosity about various plants and how they took to certain treatments for the best harvesting results, but mostly the books were quite random. More recently, the tatzel ghoul had sneakily snuck a SixteenScream into her dorm- again, out of sheer curiosity. Why the library even had those was a mystery, but there they were. The country ghoul had always been quite adamant about her lack of interest in all things ghouly but she really couldn't seem to help herself sometimes. The magazines were both boring and intriguing at the same time, causing her to flip through the pages but not retain much of what she was seeing; just seeing it was enough.

Also in the library on this particular day were a couple of familiar faces. The newest issue of the questionable magazine was rolled up under Levi's arm, thumbs locked into position in her jean short pockets as she saw the first of her familiar peers around the bend by a stacked table. Now West, what'cha doin' readin' all them-... He wasn't alone. Sounds of flipping pages and a slowly appearing head behind the towering hoard of books came into view. That hair, those ears; Levi recognized them almost immediately and smiled at the baku before becoming baffled as to why there was a meeting of these two individuals with all these tomes packed so high.

Jack tell me I ain't missin' somethin'. If this was for some sort of class, she hadn't the foggiest about it, and that was a knock at her intellect.

((Intellectual? Levi?? you lie.YOU LIIIIEEEEEEEE))

Damien didn't have good memories about the library. The last time the pup walked through those doors, the other pup Jove was trying to take his first step in learning about the sunfowls and the wasps. It wasn't necessarily bad, but it wasn't one that seemed relate able to the experience of book learning. The library was an odd place in itself, the ever continuous shifting flow of scents and scent trails in the populated area had the potential to be tricky to a canines nose.

Piles of scent trails from the entrance leading into the rows of books, spiraling into some knotted tree and branches of odors. The books themselves always had a remnant of who held it, only to degrade the scent identification tag with time. Not to mention the DUST.

For once, as the pup passed by the musty room, the trail was fresh. students passed by here recently that made the hellhound curious as he sniffed at the air tentatively. curiously. The Tatzel was in there.

Along with the grumpy demon and someone else. "Strange." he murmured to himself and sauntered into the big area. The piles of books only seemed to have increased in quantity since he last stopped by, the imposing columns of text made the boil shrink up. The last thing he wanted was a literature avalanche to fall on him.

As he followed the trail he found his way to a table and and stack of what he could imagine was some kind of encyclopedia or even a almanac from the amount of pages in each. Something only the mammoth known as G could probably carry all at once. And there was Levi. The hairs on his neck bristled at the sight of the ghoul near the books and he had to fight the urge to yank on her feline ear.

"What do you think you're doing here Wurm?" he chided with great mirth and began to fiddle with the ghouls ears, twisting them left and right for his own enjoyment and finally peered over the wall of anthologies.

and found pink eyes and green angry eyes.

The hound was quick to let out a sharp meep and put his hands to his sides like a scolded scareling. "Hi, I don't suppose this is some kind of study circle huh?"

Taima usually reserved those hours between her last class of the day and whenever she got hungry for research in the library. It allowed her to keep ahead of her classes or, if she had already finished all of her coursework, on top of anything else she happened to be looking into at the time. Which was currently everything. Although most of what she read in the library had no practical value--who would ever need to know the chemical makeup of newt's eyes, anyway?--she liked learning about it. One could never be too prepared, after all, especially with all of the strange things that had been going on around Amityville lately forever.

It was routine: come in, nod absently to the librarian, make a beeline for the reference section, pick a book and read until she got bored and/or restless and/or hungry, or any combination of the three. Except today, there didn't seem to be any books in the reference section. Taima glanced towards the librarian's desk, frowning at him in bemusement, and followed the point of his finger as he gestured at a desk across the library. There sat what seemed to be the entirety of Amityville's impressive collection of research materials, a bunch of other students crowded around it.

Curious, Taima headed over to see what was so important that it required the use of so many books. "Hey," she whisper-hissed when she was sure her voice would carry without violating the silence of the library, "you guys know you took, like, the entire research section? Even the dictionaries? What are you guys even doing?"

Victoria was exploring the school; there was just so much to see that she hadn't seen before, although she couldn't help wishing for there to be more mirrors around. In fact, she was wondering if she should submit a suggestion to the Student Council about putting up more mirrors along the corridor and in the classrooms, among other places. As she wandered, she somehow stumbled upon the library - and immediately floated towards some students who were crowding around a table stacked with thick, heavy-looking books.

"Hello, Sirs and Misses," She beamed, floating above them, "What are you-" A loud, over-dramatic gasp followed as she pointed at Levi, and then at West; her eyes widened along with her smile as she floated downwards, hovering beside Levi. Her gaze remained on the ghoul's chest for a good 2 seconds before she looked at her face.

"I know you! You're Miss Big Bosom Kitty! And you're Sir Frowns-a-lot! I saw you at the Halloween Celebration at Town Hall! Oh, Miss, do I have permission to check if your chest is larger than Miss Amphi's and Hel's?" She was very excited to find out that they were students of the school. Very, very excited.

She continued to smile, now even more interested in what the group of students were reading up on. However, since manners were important, she decided to introduce herself first; with a curtsy, she hovered a few inches off the ground, looking at each student, "Victoria Marie Bloodworth, but most people call me Victoria. It is a pleasure to meet all of you!"

From somewhere in the library, someone cleared their throat very loudly, and proceeded to let out a long 'Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!'

Let's see. Underwater Labyrinth, Underwater Labyrin--

The baku flinched in shock when a voice piped up from seemingly nowhere. Pushing herself up and out of her chair, Xiu turned to face the boil with wide eyes, her hand clutched over her heart. "West! You scared me!"

Her expression became a little sheepish when she noticed the book in his hand, but just as she opened her mouth to answer, another familiar face showed up. "Jiejie!" Her eyes visibly brightened at the tatzel's arrival, and she couldn't help but smile at the other ghoul's concern. "Oh, no, jiejie. These are--"

And then yet another person showed up. Xiu lifted a hand to wave to Demi, but this time, she didn't even bothering opening her mouth to speak as she was certain that--yes, there, oops. They had attracted another person, and for good reason as well. Looking sheepish, the ghoul bowed her head at the newcomer, careful to keep her voice soft. "Sorry, it's actually my fault. I was--"

Suddenly a ghost. Xiu blinked at Victoria curiously--oh, did she know Levi and West?--before her lips spread into a smile. Cringing a little when someone shushed them, she made certain to lower her voice to a murmur. "Nice you meet you, Victoria. I'm Xiu."

And then there was a long, long pause as she waited to see if anyone else would suddenly appear. When it became clear that no, Victoria had been the last person, the baku let out a quiet sigh of relief and gestured sheepishly towards all the books she had gathered. "I...first off, I apologize for grabbing all the books," She glanced at Taima as she said this, and then she turned her attention down to the notepad that she had been scribbling in. Picking it up, she held it for the others to see, "I um, I was actually doing some research! Apparently there's this place called the 'Underwater Labyrinth' somewhere near Halloween, and I was actually hoping I could find some more information on it. I know it sounds silly, but assuming that it really does exist...I kind of want to see if I can find it, you know? Like an adventure!"

Xiu sighed then, forlornly shutting the book that she had just been scanning though. "The only issue is that I can't find too much information on it. It says it's near Halloween, but I'm not sure how someone is supposed to get there. A portal, maybe? But where would the portal be?" She furrowed her brows, and then shook her head, "Anyways, that's why I'm trying to get through all these books. It's taking me a while, but..."

"What's this, a jackdamned party all ovva sud—"

The demon's muttered question was clearly rhetorical, and he might have continued muttering if it hadn't been for Victoria. He had seen her before, quite recently, and if he'd thought her sketchy then, it was nothing next to the way he felt about her now. Everyone and everything in the immediate vicinity shrank in importance when compared to one horribly confusing fact: This ghost ghoul wanted to... check his ghoulfriend's... chest... somehow? Probably. By. Touching. It.

His cheeks couldn't seem to decide whether they wanted to pale due to embarrassment or flush due to... embarrassment, so they blazed their own way down trail number three, going a splotchy pinkish color as his mouth dropped open. "No. No, you dun have permiss..." He crossed his arms, dropped them back to his sides, pointed a finger at the ghoul, then crossed his arms again. "Sir Frowns-a-lot does not approve." West really wanted to do quite a bit more than half-heartedly scold the ghost, but this was Levi's fight. He didn't have a claim on her chest. He hadn't even touched it himself yet.

...

An underwater labyrinth? You don't say!

West very deliberately turned all of his attention toward the baku, staring at her as if he could light her on fire with his glare.

"So let's figure out where it is," he nearly shouted, earning another prolonged 'Shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!' for his trouble. He picked up one of the books and flopped down at the table, glaring at it as hard as he had been glaring at Xiu.

One after the other, they were piling in by this small mountain of books and one baku. Levi, momentarily stunned by a hellhound's handling of her ears, hissed and flushed a near shade of rosy pink. Hissssss REX! This was followed by a correcting hush from an unseen library visitor, causing Levi too to straighten up and glare at Demi. He'd get it back eventually; retaliation was imminent. For now, the ghoul's tail remained still; something about the library made the tatzel want to go into stealth mode. It might have had something to do with the magazine she rolled up and stuffed into her back pocket, or the fact that it was dead silence aside from the flipping and rustling of pages.

The ghoul's eyes went wide when the ghostly ghoul now known as Victoria pointed her out and then stared at her shirt again. Mirroring her, Levi too looked down at herself before meeting eyes with the ghoul. What'I got on?! Candy corn juice stain? Then out came the nicknames and Levi raised a brow. Name's Levi. Ain't no kitty cat, Missy. To emphasize, she flickered her tongue once, both hands resting on her hips.

Then came the inquiry of a rather personal inspection.

Levi looked at Victoria. Then looked at West. Then back to Victoria. Then to Xiu and Taima. Then at Demi. Then back to West and Victoria.

What

It wasn't a challenge being place before her or any offering of a battle; so why did the ghostly ghoul want to inspect her body? This wasn't a matter of sizing her up, Levi reasoned. Levi hadn't met anyone named Amphi, but it could have rung around the classes. Hel? ... Well, Hel was a ghoul who knew her battle moves. Could Victoria be aiming to learn something involving chests and tactics using them? There were some very effective holds that depended on the use of a bosom to block an opponents air passages if they were a breather. Was this something a ghost would want to know more about? As always, Levi would give her the benefit of the doubt; perhaps Victoria was a budding athlete as Xiu was.

Don't really think this is tha'place fer that... As if there was a proper place for that. Levi knew the library was not a place to begin any sort of wrestling activity. But if yer lookin' ta' learn somethin' new, I can show ya'nother time. Maybe West was worried about such tactics. His face became something quite comical and Levi placed a hand on West's arm while beaming down at him as he sat. I'd show ya, but then ya'll'd know- Another shush rolled through the air directed at the group, so Levi moved in closer by West's ear to keep it down. ... yew'd know what'was comin'. Where's tha'fun'in that? If there was a colliding of chest matter with his back at any point, it was strictly due to her leaning over. Balancing back onto the heels of her feet, Levi turned her smile back over to the baku, one hand pulling open the chair next to West, who explained the situation in further detail. Leaving poor West likely confused as hell.

So it's somewhar'round 'ere. Hmm. the first book available within her view was what she picked up by the cover, resting the spine down on the table with a thunk. A good adventure was something worth looking into. If'I were a underwater laba'rynth... where would I be other than under water somewhere on the grounds? Guess I'd be someplace under water.

Excellent problem solving right here.

it was funny how quickly a crowd can gather. at first Damien was already feeling the effects of third wheel syndrome prodding Grumpy and the Tatzel. Even if Xiu was present. on top of that, he perked his ears up as two more wheels added onto their party mobile. The hound had a hearty chuckle as his sister from another hisser threw a fit. It was well worth it, even when the omnipresent librarian let out a shush that made the hounds ears twitch and lower.

The addition to the friendly ghost ghoul did nothing to sate his curiosity as the pup tilted his head at Victoria. and blinked. then blinked at Levi as she stared at him, and then went back to Victoria. "What?" he asked bluntly, dumb founded by the statement. Phos was confused and had the face to go with it. What was the ghoul even talking about?

But the tangent passed and the Baku led them back on track. He listened and stuck his nose to the table as Xiu continued explaining her current research. "Underwater Labyrinth? you don't say?" he said forlorn. He never expected the rose haired ghoul to be so adventurous. Clearly a result of interacting with Levi he figured. But the Baku had made up her mind to find it, who was he to judge. "Then lets find the place and hope its not in cold water." he quipped up, batting his tail about as he dug into a book.

And began sniffing it for information, Phos was the best at finding clues. not long after the rumble of one irritated Melas surfaced and rolled his eyes. "I have a pup that does not know how to read." he said bitterly, turning the book right side up and began to really search, he eyebrows knotted, but his eyes were focused on the text.

"Yes Levi, excellent deduction." the irritated Beta said dryly with a hiss. one that rivaled the intensity of the librarians shhhh. Shushing competition was a go.

Mollified by the baku's admission, Taima nodded absently and turned her attention to the other ghoul's notes. Underwater Labyrinth...that sounded interesting. The prospect of visiting somewhere so largely unknown was exciting, and--chest? What? Taima was distracted from Xiu's notes as the little ghost ghoul asked to examine the feline ghoul's boobs. Odd as it was, Taima found herself curious enough to ask, "Why do you want to measure her--you know what, never mind, I don't think I want to know after all." She wasn't that curious, and judging from the demon boil's reaction, this could only end one of two ways: badly, or horribly.

Taima returned her attention instead to Xiu as the baku mentioned something that sounded vaguely familiar. "I've never heard of any underground labyrinth, nearby or otherwise, but portals...maybe not portals as such." Xiu really had taken all of the books, which made it easier for Taima to go through them. She went through one of the stacks of books, moving them from pile to tabletop, heedless of whatever order Xiu had them in. The first stack didn't seem to yield what she was looking for, and her lips pressed together in an irritated frown as she went through the next one. No, no, no, no--aha! About halfway through the second pile of books, she found what she was looking for: a completely unremarkable-looking book, no unique markings on it, not even a title printed on the cover; nothing that would make you look twice at it, unless you spent your free time around boring, unremarkable books.

"Found it!" Taima nearly chirped in excitement as she held it up. "It's a book of maps," she explained, "with details about the places the maps are of. Most of it's typical stuff--dates, names of historical figures, notable landmarks--but there's also bits of local legend in there. That stuff read too much like fiction," she said, almost disdainfully, "and it didn't mention any underwater labyrinths or portals, but there are a bunch of places in our world where sometimes people just...disappear. Amityville is, like, the capitol of all things weird; there's bound to be one of those places nearby!"

Victoria's face fell when she was denied excess to the pair of fine boobs by the annoyed looking Demon, although she was also delighted that Sir Frowns-a-lot was using her name for him; he shall be known as Sir Frowns-a-lot in all future fan fiction written of him and... What's this? Her lips were shaped into an 'o', and her hands were pressed on her cheeks when Levi - might as well use that instead of Miss Big Bosom Kitty now that she had been officially introduced - promised to 'show her another time'.

That meant access granted, right?

"I would love that, Miss Levi!" She beamed, spinning one round in excitement before settling down at the mention of adventure; she did not come to school to seek adventure, but some adventure can't hurt! She was sure that Matron would be proud of her for being adventurous.

"Oh dear Sally, Miss Xiu! That sounds delightful!" She nodded, immediately floating over to Demi. Hovering behind him, she peered over his shoulder, reading the page he was currently on; since he mentioned something about not being able to read, she thought that she might try to help, "Allow me, Sir Doggy!"

Her attention, however, was diverted over to Taima when she spoke. Having been distracted by Levi's bosom, she had failed to notice it earlier; however, now that her attention was on the ghoul, Victoria couldn't help gasping as she stared at her wings.

"Those colors are gorgeous!" Her delighted exclamation earned the group another 'Shhhhhhhhhh', although the ghost didn't seem to be aware of it; of course, 'May I touch them?' was implied.

...All this talk about boobs and touching things was really starting to confuse her. If it would placate her, Xiu would have offered up her own chest to the ghost, except...

Well, yeah. No boobs. Not really, anyways.

She gave a little wave of her tail when the others started picking up books to sift though, pink eyes lighting up. Oh! Were they going to help her find more information on this "Underwater Labyrinth", then?! Or better yet, would they all be interested on going on this adventure together?

She beamed at each of them in turn, smiling at West and Taima, chuckling at Levi, Demi, and Victoria. Things would go a lot faster with five more pairs of eyes searching with her.

Sure enough, it seemed as if the thunderbird had discovered something. Tapir-shaped ears perking up, she carefully set her book down on the table, moving over to where the other ghoul was. "Places where people just disappear?" She echoed, the excitement evident in her voice, "So maybe...portals that pop up and disappear at random? And you're right--there has to be a place like that near us! If only we could figure out where--"

She cut herself off, jumping in surprise as Victoria suddenly spoke up to compliment Taima on her wings. There was a moment of pause, and then the baku giggled loudly, an act that only earned yet another "SHHHHHH" from the surrounding students. They were totally going to get kicked out at this rate. Best to act fast and find what the needed.

The demon spent the next several minutes staring at the random book he had chosen, fists clenched on either side of its cover as he very obviously didn't comprehend a word of it. No, there were too many other things piercing his veil of anger and occupying his mind more effectively than reading would at the moment: Levi whispering in his ear, the thought of throttling that damned ghost, pathling sandwiches. Mmm.

It was a good thing the winged ghoul he'd seen in that Personal Bag O'Crap class seemed to actually know what in the hell she was talking about. He listened to nearly every other word she said, catching the maps out of the corner of his eye as he calmed down.

Portals. Right. Like the one he'd watched the mayor and the rest of them disappear into at the human Halloween celebration. They seemed kind of unnecessarily risky to go deliberately seeking out—like boarding a boat to Jack knew where or following a horseman through a ring of fire—but that didn't mean they didn't warrant exploring at least once. He'd done those other things without a second thought too, once upon a time, and he was still standing here.

West shot to his feet, slamming his tome shut as he rejoined the others. He briefly extended a hand toward Levi as well, as if he was suggesting she come closer too.

"So, what sortsa places we got?" he muttered, peeking at the book of maps but making no move to touch it. Surely they could narrow their search for this portal down to some nearby points of interest so they wouldn't need to search the entire campus in a day. "If it's jus' gonna suck us all in when we find it, we should stick t'gether." He narrowed his eyes at Victoria. West doubted the ghoul was a hunter in disguise, but if she turned out to be, one of these weird portals could double as the perfect place to dump her and her wandering hands.
