A Little Something Wicked: An RP Contest.

Opens: Now!
Closes: Thursday, November 8th, 2012 @ 11 PM PST.
Herd profiles for new and established Cerynei/Vanaras Herd members will be due Friday, November 9th, 2012 @ 11 PM PST.

Welcome to A Little Something Wicked: An RP Contest! The Twisted Tunnel has brought an unexpected miracle to the family of Calixte and Kenton, and this miracle could be passed onto you, for we are offering you a chance to receive the third basket from their recent breeding.

This contest was designed specifically as an RP contest for a reason: Kenton and Cali's family is heavily and extensively RP'd, and sbuggy166 and I would like to ensure (as much as is possible) that this baby will go to someone who will RP with us. It is also open only to Cerynei newbies (meaning that you do not have a Cerynei, co-owned or otherwise) and Vanaras Herd members, as we would like to ensure that the basket will stay in the herd.

Please read further for more details to find out how this basket could become yours!

Rules & Guidelines
Follow them.

• Follow the ToS, Soquili rules, and these ones.

• This is a contest for Cerynei newbies and members of the Cerynei/Vanaras Herd. If you have a question about the rules regarding entries that isn't answered here or in the FAQ, please see page two's announcement.

----------• A Cerynei newbie has NO Cerynei. This includes co-ownerships. However, there's a few mini-clauses about this rule that you might want to check into in the FAQ.
----------• Members of the Cerynei/Vanaras Herd must have their profiles posted.
----------• New applicants who apply to the Cerynei/Vanaras Herd will have 24 hours after the contest ends to post their profiles once accepted into the herd. After this point, the judging will commence. Clarification: Yes, you can apply to the Vanaras if you want to enter the contest. This is to raise awareness for the herd.

• The checking of spelling and grammar is much appreciated.

• You may edit your forms up until the end of the contest.

----------• Please include a red time-stamp at the time of the edit at the bottom of your post. You only need to include the most recent one.

• Please understand that upon winning the contest, Maho and Buggy will expect to be able to plot and RP with you. However, as we cannot enforce this, we would appreciate it if only those interested in RP'ing would enter the contest. Thank you.

• Have fun! <3

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions

• Have a question?
----------• PM Mahogany Sunset.

What if I have a hybrid?

----------• As per the qualifications of the Cerynei/Vanaras Herd, hybrids count as Cerynei. They see a Cerynei as anyone with cloven hooves (if not from the Cerynei base, they should be combined with another Cerynei trait), a Cerynei-like tail, antlers, and/or fuzzy ears.

• What if I apply to join the herd, but the contest ends before I get my profile up?

----------• If you're joining the herd, as long as your application is up, you can post your entry. Your entry will only be disqualified if you do not have a profile up by the profile deadline. (This basically means that anyone [who has to join the herd to enter the contest] who enters and doesn't have a profile up by the end of Friday will be disqualified.)

What if it's a co-ownership that I don't have RP rights to?

----------• This is a bit different. The whole point of this contest is to increase RP and plotting opportunities. If you don't have RP rights to the Cerynei that you've co-owned (Ooc, In-Thread, IC - any at all), than the co-ownership rule may be waived. Please ask Maho about this and be prepared to provide a link to the agreement.

• Wait, I don't have a Cerynei. What's this about applying to the herd, and do I need to put a form for the basket in my entry?

----------• The only form that you need to put in your entry is the one in the forms post! If you don't have a Cerynei, you're a Cerynei newbie - don't worry about joining the herd. <3

Immediate Family & The Herd
Mommy, Daddy, Brothers, & Sisters

The entirety of the immediate family is currently in a rivalry with a pack of pure skinwalkers. These children will be included in those plots.

User Image

Mother
Calixte

Caring and defensive, Calixte has a distinct air of protectiveness and caution about her - she will protect her own at any price and will fight to defend them. Not much will get in her way when she is angry. She especially cares for those sick or hurt, and is impressed semi-easily. As a Dryad, she believes that everything has a spirit, including rocks, trees, and other things. She talks with a formal edge on her voice if she is stressed or unfamiliar with someone. Really a gentle soul, Cali takes pride in looking at her children and the herd - in her eyes, they are her greatest accomplishments. She has her varied 'hyper filly' moments when around foals or Kenton - a water fight or game of tag might manifest suddenly. She does keep secrets that she thinks others would find scandalous or troubling... As such, only Kenton knows much about her past life in Greece.
The herd is her whole life now, and she will take every measure to protect it. She admires honor and family, and friendships - both with actual soq and nature. As the Mistress of Ceremonies, she is fully immersed in herd life, and keeps as much contact with the members as possible to stay in the loop
Calixte also has a sort of 'sixth sense' that should be noted - her ears, working extremely well as antennae, pick up sounds that less sensitive ears would not. As such, Cali hears things - rustling leaves and cracking branches - normally associated with the hoofbeats of other soquili in a different way than most. For example, if someone is nearby, but their footsteps would not be heard by normal ears, Cali can hear that. However, she processes it differently. Anything that would not be heard by normal ears is, to her, the voice of nature - trees whispering, that kind of thing. So while this might seem like she's mildly schizophrenic, the 'whispering of the plants' or the 'gossip line of nature' is really just her own explanation for her extraordinary hearing.

Father
Kenton

Kenton is very proud of his pre-Cerynei blood. His years of training have made him strong, yet humble. He is a gentleman and would never think it right to harm another unless it was absolutely necessary. He is best described as a gentle giant. He finds that females make the best company and loves to talk to them. He is quick to forgive and never lingers long on the bad things in life.
Back in the Cerynei Lands, Kenton was one of the guard of his herd. If the herd was about to change locations, he would go out and scout in front of them, warning them of any danger. He spent his days separated from the herd, patrolling the edges of their territories and exploring new grazing grounds. Everyone looked up to him for protection and admired his bravery. It was a solitary job, but Kenton loved the adventure it brought.
When the big fires hit, Kenton was far away from the herd, out on a scouting run. He rushed back to where they had last grazed, but found the clearing charred and empty. Kenton was determined to wait for them, but the fires forced him to leave the forest. All along the way, he looked for survivors and helped anyone in need of services, but he was never able to find anyone from his herd. Once in the Soquili Lands, he had lost all hope of finding any of his herd.
Now, Kenton serves as the Protector of the Vanaras, a job he loves well. He keeps track of patrols, scouts, and all other positions that could be considered part of the herd's 'military.' He also takes on students who wish to learn to defend themselves and others.

Sister
Tinúviel

Tinúviel was taught to dance by her mother, and that is, so far, the only thing that has stuck. Tin is forever flirting with something, though usually unknowingly - disaster, the wind, boys, and even girls. Once her mother taught her to dance, however, she began to contain herself. Now far more reserved in public, Tin expresses herself through dance. Being confronted by a mother-daughter pair of purewalkers as a child, though, has scarred her; she is careful to keep her distance from friends in case the walkers come back to hurt them. If someone gets too close, she shuts them down before they can get hurt by the monsters from her nightmares. She likes to spend time alone, but will always take an opportunity to cause trouble with her brother. Though Tin was raised to be the next Mistress of Ceremonies, she secretly resents her mother for not considering that she might want to do something else with her life. Her biological father is unknown to her, but she is close to finding him - not having a speck of brown on her shiny dark coat, she knows that she is not Kenton's daughter, though she will always call him 'Daddy.'
Currently in love, Tin has a tendency to sneak away from the herd as often as she can. Though her beau will eventually be introduced to her parents and siblings, she's presently worried about being introduced to his family.

Brother
Enaran

Innocent and sweet, Enaran is the son of Cali and Fayearan. Raised by Kenton and Cali, he likes to cause trouble with his sister. Also attacked by skinwalkers as a foal, Enaran was the only child injured during the incident.

This basket is the product of over two years of plotting, RP'ing, and good old-fashioned love. Kenton and Cali's third biological child together, it's up to you as to where its future will go.

If you have differing ideas based on the gender of the foal, you are welcome to include both ideas in your entry. Just use two forms in your post. (Please put both forms in the same post!)

Please fill out the following form to enter the contest. The RP prompt can be found at the bottom of this post. (There's a form guide in the post below if you need some help. <3 )

RP Prompt
It's an RP contest, remember? :3

When you fill out your form, please remember to reply to this prompt. This is what the whole contest is about, after all - RP and future plots. The prompt is a self-RP prompt, meaning that only the future foal will appear: not Calixte, not Kenton, not any siblings... only the foal. Please keep this in mind when working on your response. Another thing to keep in mind is the length - while short responses are fine, this is a self-RP, which means it should be a bit longer than one RP response, because the foal will ultimately be following a train of thought all the way to its end. As such, it should be longer than just a few sentences, and perhaps longer than a few paragraphs. As for loooong responses, they're alright too - we just want quality over quantity, in the end.

Feel free to be creative and incorporate whatever might come from the foal's twisted conception...

Prompt
You have a choice between these prompts:

1. Growing up in the herd, things have been generally peaceful. However, your mother and father have given you severe warnings about foals and adults that you might encounter in the woods, and have told you to scream for help and run if you spot a soquili with cat- or dog-like paws and/or an animal skin on its back. Though they've told you that they're evil and will try to hurt you, your young mind cannot imagine what kind of creature they're talking about. What are your thoughts on the creatures called 'skinwalkers'?

2. You know that some Cerynei in the herd think that they can hear the voices of nature calling to them, but you can't. The herd, also deeply connected to its territory, has an amazing sense of the native flora and fauna. What are your thoughts on nature and the herd's respect for it?

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[~Twilight...Angel~]

Name: Mjesec Žetve
----------• means moon of harvest in Croatian
Temper: Serene
Personality: Mjesec Žetve are quiet and timid when you first meet them. Shy when around others not related to them. Once you get to know them and they come out of their shell, however, they can be a little energetic. Always wanting to have a good time playing, but is more reserved when it's needed. Mjesec Žetve enjoys anything to do with nature, if it be finding new plants, or meeting another type of animal for the first time. They also enjoy taking care of plants and flowers. Connecting with them in their own way. Mjesec Žetve enjoys doing plenty of things with their siblings and parents. Learning about things that they each do and love gives Mjesec Žetve much joy.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Of course! Deciding on what kinds of twists will depend a little on how the babies look when they are born. But Mjesec Žetve having a chance encounter with something that looks dreadful and scary, then learning that whatever it is (being another Soquili, or simply a kind of plant), isn't that scary at all would probably be an interesting thing to play out. Or, if their appearence is twisted, they could, instead, have it be the other way around. Where they meet a more "normal" looking Soquili who might be afraid of them and they have to convince them that they aren't that bad.

Ideas For Plots: Any plots that can be had with siblings where Mjesec Žetve is learning all about the things they like and do for a living. Various plots with different members of the herd would be fun too, learning about each individual as much as Mjesec Žetve can. As far as adult plots go, anything to do with their role in the herd iteself and finding some love like their mother has would be interesting as well. And they are sure to have plenty of things where they make new friends.

Position Among the Vanaras: Messenger (or perhaps protector?)

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [2]
[Mjesec Žetve loves nature, enjoying the respect and thoughts that the whole herd has on all things in nature. Trotting over to their small garden they have been taking care of, Mjesec Žetve, gently waters the plants. Looking them up and down, they fix a few of them that have tipped in the winds the night before. Gently patting more soil around their stems and main bodies. Althought they are not capable of hearing the voices of the plants and trees, Mjesec Žetve enjoys their company none the less. They bend down to smell a particularly plesant looking flower, staring at it so that the name might come to mind. Amaryllis, the flower's name meaning pride. Such a beautiful flower that grew there, but also very delitcate. Patting the soil around it Mjesec Žetve wondered if there were many others who enjoyed taking care of the plants. They figured that there had to be just considering the respect their people had for them. They then thought about how nice a walk around the edge of the nests might be. Seeing all the different plants and trees being this close is always nice this time of the year. They wandered away from their garden, admiring the larger trees. Wandering by the ones who were gathering was interesting. Seeing how they took some of the bark from some of the trees. Mjesec Žetve always enjoyed learning, but decided that today would be a walk day. Walking was good for the bones and good for the mind. As they looked up, they noticed the sun starting to set a little bit, finding the colors reminicent of their flowers. They headed back to their own nest, looking and wondering at everything as they went. As Mjesec Žetve got back, they thought again about how wonderful their herd's belief's were. Loving and respecting all living things, even some being able to listen to the plants and trees. All of it so facinating. Maybe they would have one of the others in the herd teach them a little bit more about the plants around them tomorrow. Yes, tomorrow sounds good. For now, it is time for Mjesec Žetve to sleep, dreaming about all the lovely things in the world around them.]

Anything Else?: Just that the baskets and the family itself are all so beautiful <3 And I would be very excited and honered if I could be a part of it all <3 And thank you for giving everyone the opportunity to be a part of it :3

EDIT: 11/07/12
I had put the form there cause I wasn't sure if you had needed it or not, but good to know that you didn't xD

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Amirynth]

Name: Mylune (girl) / Remulos (boy)
----------• Origin & Meaning: Both names come from WoW in honor of their mother's line however, I picked the two that had the closest affinity with nature because of their father Kenton. Mylune is known for her connection to small fuzzy critters while Remulos is one of the most powerful Keepers of the Grove and became a great teacher in his own right.
Temper: Imaginative/Stalwart
Personality: Mylune is a friendly, outgoing filly who has a curiosity that seems insatiable. She enjoys asking questions and yet usually cannot sit still long enough to find out the answers. Full of life, she enjoys making friends with the local woodland's creatures and taking care of them. As she grows older, they will slowly become a kinda of network for her which will aid her in her role as a gatherer. She believes everything has a purpose, even the bad ones and will sometimes push the boundaries of what might be safe in her interactions with the more dangerous breeds and species.
Remulos is open, honest and inquisitive. He enjoys learning about the wonders of the earth and quite often can be found sitting in a corner of the herd territory, and just listening and watching the world around him. As a youngster, he does have a tendency to speak his mind which often can get him into trouble, especially when he asks the wrong question to the wrong person. It's not until he learns how to interact with others in a correct social manner that he finally decides to become a storyteller.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Most definitely! I'm considering them to have an affinity with plants much like their mother's good hearing lets her think she can listen to the spirit of the forest. They will not exactly have a dark twist to them but more have an affinity with the spirits (more plant/earth spirits than animal) much like Halloween is the time that the veil between our realm and the next is the thinnest.

Ideas For Plots: I would love to have them run into a 'walker, probably a youngster, and having to figure out how to get out of trouble. Either they would try and stand up to protect the herd (and may get hurt in the process) or they run and try to get the adults to help out only to find the 'walker has vanished.
For a girl: I think it'd be cute for her to try (very hard) to be a storyteller and learn their history ect. but then not be able to settle down long enough to actually remember any stories. (Hence why she ends up becoming a gatherer instead.)
I would also like for her to gain a familiar at an early age as she enjoys feeding the small woodland creatures around her and taking care of them.
For a boy: I would love him to have a run in with some soq who are bigger than him who might not be the nicest types (not necessarily kalona but you kinda get the idea) he tries to impress them but fails and they mock him. It'd be awesome if someone around his age 'comes to his rescue' and they become fast friends.
As he grows older I would love to see him go from a more headstrong foal to a very reserved adult. Not necessarily in a bad way, but I would like him to have an incident where he speaks out more than he should and learns that sometimes it is better to stay quiet. Maybe it is questioning a traditional practice of another herd or maybe it's just saying the wrong thing and hurting another's feelings but through this he will learn to interact with others with empathy.

Position Among the Vanaras: If a girl: Gatherer, I can see her having an affinity with plants kinda like her mother. This she will use as an advantage to help out the herd as a whole. Her love of making friends with the woodland creatures could also play a part in her duties.
If a boy: Storyteller/teacher, He will start out wanting to be a protector when he is young but as time goes on he realizes his calm manner works best for teaching the foals and decides to focus on learning the history and legends that bring the herd together and teach everyone how to exist.

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [1] Growing up in the herd, things have been generally peaceful.
[Replying as a girl] She wasn't supposed to beyond the boundaries of the herd territory and yet there she was, hunting around in the long grasses. There was a hurt rabbit, a small little thing that had injured his foot while they were playing. She was looking for some herbs that could be used to help him feel better and so nose to the ground, she was searching diligently. A few muddy spots later and her hooves were now a dark brown and starting to sink further and further into earthy soil. It wasn't until a few minutes had passed that Mylune realized she was having trouble picking up her feet.

With a frantic squirm the small filly tried to free herself, using all her strength and wiggling as best she could. She wished fervently that her big sister Tinúviel was with her. She adored her older sibling and knew the cerynei's frequent journeys outside the herd lands would have given her an idea how to get out of the mud. Squirming some more, the dark foal managed to reach out with her teeth and grab hold of a vine, using it to steady herself and slowly pull herself free of the grasp of the earth. Taking a few tentative steps, the mud still sucking at her hooves, Mylune ventured forward, using the grasses and vines to aid her balance and watching much more carefully where she was stepping. Well, I can't return by this way... She looked back the way she had come, the deceptively long grasses swaying in the breeze. With a shake of her hooves she carefully moved forward, looking for a good place to turn and make her way back into the herd lands.

It wasn't until the shadow fell over her that she realized she was no longer alone. Mylune looked up into a face that matched her own except this one was a stallion, and had a thick mane of fur on his head that continued down his back and over his tail. She took a few steps back, a warning squelch reminding her of what lay in that direction. "Umm... h-hello." She uttered, to the deep green eyes that gleamed with a hunter's glare. "N-nice day we are having yes?" Mylune knew he was dangerous, she knew she needed to run, far and fast, but for the moment she did not know where to go as her path back to the herd was blocked by the mire. She blinked once, realizing he must be younger than she thought. He towered over her but not as much as her father did, he didn't even have any antlers! She knew they had claws but a quick glance down did not confirm this as the long grasses blocked her view. She felt her heart quicken, the stories she had heard from her parents had terrorized her, though in her dreams she had always wondered if they really were that scary. Her nightmares were a different story, but then they were meant to leave her breathless with fear right? She glanced towards the right, hoping to find a way back that she recognized and fervently wished she had not decided to go looking for herbs on her own. Anger, hatred, fear, hunger, these were the traits of a skinwalker and here stood one before her. All they ever looked out for was their next meal. Maylune knew she would be his next, she had to run, somewhere, anywhere... but he was bigger, he would catch up to her in no time! She felt her heart beat even faster but her hooves were rooted to the spot as her mind whirled up in a frenzy of imagination. She would bolt, not knowing where to go and he would chase her down, pounce on her, tare into her with his ferocious claws and...

He still had not moved...

She ventured another quick glance up, the sun gleaming into her eyes slightly as she did so. His shadow still fell over her, the tail swaying lazily from side to side, green eyes blinking slowly.

In the furred face...

A thought occurred to her. She squinted slightly and tilted her head, her heard still pounding within her chest. The stallion's body was a deep brown, curved and twisted with a furred beast atop his head and shoulders. Shoulders which also looked twisted at her second glance. That reached down to thick legs... that started to look suspiciously like tree trunks. She blinked and took another step back, her legs feeling loose and wobbly.

The large feline yawned, got up and stretched, his back arching. He took another long look at her, as if she was the cause of his lack of sleep, before hopping easily down off the tree and slinking off into the long grasses.

The skinwalker was a tree!

Elated for a brief moment Mylune felt like she could skip for joy with all the sudden energy of relief she felt before realizing she was still not quite safe yet. For one, she needed to find her way back, for the other, she needed to get back before the feline decided she was still good enough to eat. With a quick glance back at the tree-horse, she bolted, picking the right passage and hoping it would be the correct one. At least when she got home she would have an adventure to tell!

Anything Else?: While I had planned for Kepi potentially visiting the herd for a while as a guest, the plots she is involved in will make those plans moot. I have a bunch of uni and 'gryphs but no actual Cerynei which I would love to have. I have been interested in this herd since it's conception and would be honored to have someone to properly join the ranks. It is up to you if I qualify or not ^-^~

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Fatal Irony]

Name: Arlen /Boy ; Brietta/Girl
----------• Celtic - Arlen means "pledge" ; Brietta means strong
Temper: Conflicted
Personality: Arlen/Brietta will be extremely hardheaded, impatient, and full of grand ideas for themselves and the herd. He/she will be possessed of natural talent in most areas of life - art, storytelling, battle, etc. However they will be a sort of "jack of all trades, master of none" type. He/she will not have the patience to train or attention span to dedicate themselves to one thing in particular. They do have an overall drive though - protect the family/herd.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: This foal is going to perceive whatever "twists" that are incorporated into their physical form as some sort of curse from the natural gods. This will cause them to question themselves and wonder if there is something evil growing inside them.

Ideas For Plots:
1. As a foal he/she might be put into a position in the herd as a "member" but he/she will want to be more. He/she will need to be put in his/her place by someone older when he/she tries to mimic behavior of someone else - perhaps a scout or patrol - and gets him/herself in some sort of danger.

2. Young adulthood - Formulating ideas of being "cursed" and perhaps trying to subject his/herself to an "exile" to protect the herd from him/herself. This of course will get them into trouble again, and perhaps someone will come after them.

3. Later adulthood - Mentorship by Kenton. After all the trials and missteps, they come to their father for guidance and try to learn patience and dedication.

Position Among the Vanaras: I see this foal as climbing the ladder, jumping from position to position. They will feel unsatisfied with any one thing and will be too immature to see any training through to the end. I see them developing much more into adulthood - after many mistakes and wrong turns in early adult/teen years. They will need (and will eventually seek) much guidance and mentorship from Kenton.

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [1] (Going to use the name Brietta for sanity's sake, but the personality will be similar for a boy as well)
[ "I wonder if they're going after skinwalkers..." Brietta muttered to herself as she watched another patrol leaving on their mission. She laid her head down on the grass, pondering the word, skinwalker. Her parents had told her stories about them and had warned her. She took it on faith that these creatures were as bad as they say... but she couldn't understand what a skinwalker might be. Do they really walk in some other creature's skin? Just how is that accomplished? And why would an evil creature do something that so blatantly distinguished them from other, goodly soquili? Brietta wrinkled her nose in contemplation. She glanced to the side and saw yet another patrol preparing to leave. That was strange to have another going out so soon. Brietta pondered it a moment before deciding it must be because there was a sighting in the area. She rose from her lying position and looked around, suddenly feeling the tension and excitement in the air. The adults were all in a tizzy, running around, looking for their children. She'd seen this scene play out before. What could possibly be so bad? She started to edge closer to the forest, following the path of the last patrol that was sent out. She stopped short, a nagging voice in the back of her mind urging her not to go out. She frowned at herself, wishing she could SEE what it was she was supposed to be so afraid of. She became aware of her name being called distantly and knew her opportunity to slip away had vanished. She turned with a sigh and thought to herself next time... ]

Anything Else?: Well you know that I can be slow at rp, but I can promise you I'll always be around to plot and I WILL reply when poked. RL gets the better of me often but I won't poof completely.

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Summer Raven]

Name: Abilene (girl) & Nahele (boy)
----------• Origin & Meaning:
Abilene - "Grassy Meadows" - Modern English form of Greek word.
Nahele - "Forest" - Hawaiian
Temper: Expressive // Dramatic
Personality: Whether the foal happens to be a boy or a girl, it's personality will stay the same. Expressive and dramatic. (S)he'll wear his/her heart on their sleeve and the thoughts and opinions of others will affect him/her greatly. (S)he will live to please the leaders of the herd, parents & siblings like, and would never dream of doing anything against herd rules.
That is, that the herd knows. During the night, the foal/Soquili will become a bit of a darker personality type, and the 'affinity' as they will call it, will come out. And this personality loves things that go bump in the night.
(S)he'll be extremely curious about the world too, always wanted to learn the exact, perfect definition or meaning behind any idea or physical thing. It's better to know and not care, than to want to know, and not have the ability to.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Absolutely!! I tend to let my characters decide for themselves how their outward appearances effect their personality, but whatever it is, it will cause the foal to have (or think (s)he has) an affinity to darkness. Which will in turn, effect their outlook on life itself.

Ideas For Plots:
These are all rough estimates off the top of my head:

1) Like his/her mother, the foal will believe, with complete certainty, that everything has a spirit. But perhaps, everything that the foal can relate to lives in the night? (S)he will be up most of the night, whispering and listening to the spirits of darkness. Whether or not (s)he can actually hear them, will never be known. It will hardly ever be spoken of.

2) (S)he will spend most of his/her time when not guarded by the herd or hanging out with siblings, studying things, and learning their origins. Perhaps another member of the herd could teach him/her what each of it means, so then, in turn, (s)he can grow up to be a wise storyteller.

3) Must like the affinity for 'darkness' as I described before, perhaps the foal/young adult will go through some sort of isolated phase, in which (s)he'll learn what it's like to be a child of the forest, as well as a self-proclaimed child of the night? This would mean roleplays with both members of the herd & Cerynei outside the herd, as well as those deemed 'darker'.

Position Among the Vanaras: Oh, I love the idea of a Storyteller, in the darkest of ways. Kind of like a herald of nightmares. Of course (s)he will grow up to know the boundaries that will be put in place as to what is acceptable to tell tales of, and what is not, but there will always be the occasional slip of a ghastly tale.

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [1] - Using Nahele (boy)
[Danger. That's what they kept telling him. Vicious; cruel; blood-thirsty; violent; dangerous creatures. And they were his parents, why would they lie to him? If they told him to stay away, surely he'd obey. That's what a good son was supposed to do, after all.

But then why did he feel almost, well, hurt....when his parents told him that the skinwalker-creatures were dangerous? Nahele never said a word to either of them about the pain bubbling up inside of him, but he felt it, nonetheless. He was, too, after all, a child of darkness. Just like the skinwalker-creature. Of course, his parents would probably laugh if he told them he felt connected to the evil beast, and then tell him to get such foolish thoughts out of his head, but he couldn't help it.

Darkness was kind of his thing.

But he wasn't evil. No sir. Not one evil bone in his tiny little body. Not a one. Blood and gore were not his thing either, no...he'd never make a good warrior for the herd. So if he was a child of darkness, and this skinwalker was too, then why would the skinwalker be 'evil', and Nahele not? Were there...were there different kinds of darkness? Different kinds of evil? Nahele often wondered why the night sky didn't talk to him as much as he wanted it to; as much as nature itself talked to his mother, and perhaps that was because he didn't have a grasp on the true meaning of darkness?

He was darkness personified, wasn't he?

The tales of the skinwalker-creatures had him second guessing that idea, and it worried the poor young stallion. All his life, all he wanted was to understand, and here...here he was learning that there was more out there than he thought. These skinwalker-creatures were darkness personified, not him. No. He was heaven, compared to the likes of them.

So, after one tale of the beasts was whispered among the herd, Nahele silently whispered to himself, as well. He vowed he'd understand the difference between what he felt inside him, and what was really evil. He wasn't there yet, nor would he ever be....

...but he couldn't help but feel jealous.]

Anything Else?: I will be the first to admit that I haven't been the best roleplayer around lately, but I have been looking for something to put me back into the swing of things. I will never vanish for a long, long period of time without a warning, and even then I'd do my best to pop on for a little bit and respond to roleplays.
Thank you very much for this contest.

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Junglerunner.]

Name: Phyllidos (M) Phyllis (F)
----------• Origin & Meaning: (if applicable) Greek name, I always like to stick to a theme and Calixte is of course Greek, meaning 'Foliage'.
Temper: Unconventional

Personality: For this competition I will be working with the idea that the foal is male, however if it is a female, the character and plot ideas will stay the same, maybe tweaked slightly to suit, but ultimately still the same in principle.

Whimsical, Eccentric, Calm, Idiosyncratic.

There's always at least one oddball in a large group; your looking at him. A true eccentric few can explain or understand why Phyllidos acts in the why he does, but no one can deny that he is a true genius. His talent of looking at things in a different light can lead to many new discoveries, great and small, though to Phyllidos, it is often the smaller things that keep his interest so keen, preaching it's the smallest of things that make the greatest connections in all things. He can often come across as being rather scatter brained, or whimsical, flitting from one thought to another, but half an hour later or even up to a few days, he may return to exactly the same point in a conversation you got no answer to, and answer it as if no time passed in between. He leans towards nocturnal tendencies but most often can be found strolling even in midday after staying up all night, fit as anyone, then again, as some might argue, his head's foggy no matter what time it is.

Personal quirks, we all have them:

Phyllidos doesn't have OCD, not really though he does have a tic, which is set off when Soquili or other creatures move stones around in his grove. He knows every position of every rock larger than a duck egg. So when they move it causes him to shrug his shoulders, a bit like when a fly crawls over your skin and makes you itch. He then calmly walks over to the said stone and repositions it, thinking nothing more of the matter.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: (Babies were conceived in the Twisted Tunnel, after all...) No twists in relation to the tunnel, well not really, his character is rather different from his mother and father, so that in itself I believe is enough to make things interesting. I'd like to take Calixte's 'sixth sense' and multiple it 10 fold for Phyllidos, not necessary his hearing, just his affiliate with the natural world around him, and much like her, he sees and hears things in a more spiritual way, rather than just the physical.

Ideas For Plots: I understand, like most RPers, plots are better to develop and flow naturally, but like most, muses die. I find the best way to keep them, personally, is to have a rough plot line and then see where it goes, maybe never really ending up the way I planned first off, but that's all part of the fun!

Thinking outside of the box: Phyllidos isn't 'normal', the definition of which is always up for debate in his eyes, but it is generally acknowledged Phyllidos usually goes about things in a way not traditionally taught to him. It's a bit like a school teacher telling a child, 'this is just how it's done', there is often no reason other than that's the way it's always been done, and for most that's the easiest way of understanding something. Not for Phyllidos, whilst growing up and learning all about the forest, and the Vanaras' way of life and old Cerynei traditions he will infuriate teachers and cause quite a stir, provoking thought in others less fixed in their ways to think, perhaps there is a better way of doing things to produce the same outcome. Not that Phyllidos desires to rock the boat, he likes the way of life within the herd, it's more in respects of producing greater crop yields, encouraging the right pollinating insects into an area of woodland etc.

Like father, like...?: Son... not really. Phyllidos is an intellectual, though his eccentric and scatter brained approach to things in life often lead to others debating that, but there is little denying he 'sees' things others do not. Though whatever his merits Phyllidos is often quite uncomfortable around his father, he is acutely aware his father is an old proud Cerynei, seeped in honour and bravery, and physical prowess; qualities Phyllidos simply hasn't inherited and most times whilst in the presence of his father, feels lacking. Phyllidos has many merits, he nurturers his grove and consistently produces the highest crop yields, grows and cares for the widest array of flora, which supports an extensive network of fauna, but still next to his father, he feels some what ashamed. I'd like Phyllidos to try and over come that, perhaps for Kenton to see the discomfort in Phyllidos and attempt to address it. Either way I really want them to build a relationship that works for them both, even though they are so different in character.

Anything you can do, I can do better!: This is not a physical thing, Phyllidos isn't physically adept after all, this is more to do with the mind, intelligence and skill. As a foal and a young adult still training in various lores he will always want to be at the top of the class, beating those around him of a similar age and competency, he is and always desires to be the teachers pet. As he grows older and is given the responsibility of a grove, he will manage his grove with such skill that he will often take on more land, from other grove keepers struggling to tame more unruly areas of woodland and forest, seeing it as a challenge. He delights in being able to grow things in soil others can't.

Position Among the Vanaras: Grove Keeper, I saw this, not as an official position in the herds thread, but in the herds plot thread noted under the position of 'Instructors.' I'd like to think 'Grove Keeper' could be a position/role within it's own right. My thoughts on the matter is that these are the care takers, they nurture the herd's territory to maximise the harvest the gathers can collect, also growing, sewing seeds, tending young plants, pulling weeds and cropping out competing plants of others that the keepers want to flourish in particular areas. And not just flora but fauna, doing things to encourage a natural balance within there groves. I'd image the herd's territory to be broken in to several sectors, each with there own 'Grove Keeper' who will know their grove like 'the back of their hands...' or hooves should we say?

RP Prompt Number & Reply:

Prompt
2. You know that some Cerynei in the herd think that they can hear the voices of nature calling to them, but you can't. The herd, also deeply connected to its territory, has an amazing sense of the native flora and fauna. What are your thoughts on nature and the herd's respect for it?

It was late autumn, a year after he had originally emerged from his basket, he remembered seeing his mother's wondrous face, the same intrigued look she gave to all new things and over her shoulder he remembered the face of his father Kenton. Phyllidos had noted over the past year his differences, he was the oddball and though that didn't bother him in the slightest he often wondered why he was so different from his parents. Rumours whispered amongst herd members spoke of old tales of a lovers tunnel they'd pasted through together, which tainted the baskets which came later. Phyllidos held little stock in such rumours, but with all such things the thought sat in the back of his mind, and when nothing else occupied his thoughts it crawled to the for front of his mind.

It was rare however his mind was unoccupied, his natural intelligence constantly sought out new sources of interest, and when he began to flounder, there was always his teachers. There was still much to learn in life, though fully grown he was still classed as a young member in the herd, with still much schooling to undergo, however he was a fast learner and it was dually noted by those who tutored him. It was coming up to his name day and upon which he could declare what position he wanted to train towards. He had a natural talent and love for the forest, like every member of the Vanaras, but he simply couldn’t explain it, but his was something deeper, maybe a personal obsession of his though beyond his love and interest in the forest and everything in it, he seem to possess his mothers kindred with the more subtle elements, being able to read into things a little deeper, to spot things others missed.

'PHYLLIDOS! Will you snap out of it and pay attention whilst I am speaking to you!'

'Master, yes, erm sorry, I was ermmm, well you see...'

'Enough... Where was I...'

Daskalos bored Phyllidos, the old Cerynei was a grove keeper, a position which Phyllidos aspired to, he wanted to manage his own part of the forest, to not be told that he was sowing seeds to early in the spring, that an early frost would kill the young saplings, but reading the weather never occurred to some members of the herd, he knew if he got it right, even if there was a frost, if he timed it right the saplings would be strong enough to survive and then flourish later, growing fuller and providing a greater crop. Daskalos was old and set in his ways and it frustrated Phyllidos, but he was obliged to listen respectfully, or at least pretend too... His mind wondered once again, watching a particular flying insect which seemed to only select one particular plant to land upon, he made a mental note of that; each insect was important, knowing which insects to encourage into certain areas would help increase pollination and...

'I give up.' Daskalos despaired and noted, 'It's like trying to teach a butterfly, your mind wonders from one thing to another, I question if your taking in anything I am saying at all.'

Phyllidos tried to keep an eye on the insect, but had to let it out his sight for a moment to focus on Daskalos. He reeled off everything the old stallion had said in the past minute, word for word, he didn't so much as a smile with satisfaction, simply let his eyes wonder back to search for his insect. Daskalos simply stared at the young stallion, he jaw hanging open a little before exhaling and promptly leaving off where he'd stopped only a moment ago.

Anything Else?: I love Cerynei, they have to be one of my favourite breeds, yet I have still to acquire one. Your family is gorgeous and I love the amount of work you've put into the family, and further more the herd. I'd love to be a part in helping the herd develop and grow. I will admit my muse wanders from time to time and I can RP slowly at times, though I do aim to tag my Rps at least once a week, I have AIM of course, and I do a lot of my plotting over AIM, I am also always open to Pms.... I love to plot things out and back things up with RP, though I understand RL comes first, and would expect those to understand RL also will slow me down also at times also. Thank you for this contest though, I always find them a lot of fun!

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Theidren]

Name: Cadmus (male) Alkippe (female)
----------• Origin & Meaning: Greek for he who excels / Greek for mighty mare
Temper: Determined
Personality: (I wrote everything as if the basket were male) Cadmus is a little hard headed and likes to do things HIS way. He doesn’t always understand why he must follow the rules that have been placed to protect him and his siblings. Sometimes Cadmus feels that he is under great pressure to do and be his best. This feeling of resentment sometimes get’s him into trouble. Cadmus has a penchant for slipping beyond the herd’s boarders and exploring on his own. Even though the pressure makes Cadmus feel like he needs his own space he adores his family, which includes the herd in his opinion. He adores bouncing around and learning from everyone in the herd.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Still pondering BUT! Lol maybe the siblings will have a darker forest like quality to them. Cadmus will be very sensitive towards any judgements of his and his siblings appearance.
Ideas For Plots: Lots of family plotting <3 A plot where Cadmus must learn the hard way why rules have been placed for protection. Learning the in’s and out’s of the herd. Figuring out his place amongst everyone. Looooove plot.

Position Among the Vanaras: Messenger at first, Cadmus would love the freedom of being a messenger and would give him opportunity to bug members to teach him what they know. He may aspire to be a patrol or instructor.

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [2]
[The foal huffed in frustration and trotted off to a cool shaded area under a tree. Cadmus was still in a “green” zone, an area in the herd’s borders he was allowed to wander. Crashing through the underbrush he laid down to blend in better and have some alone time to think. Cadmus had just left from a lesson, a lesson in connecting with nature. He just could not for the life of him figure out how to do it. A few members of the herd say they can hear the voices of nature whispers to them. Cadmus wanted to learn how to do this.

This first lesson in listening had not gone well. Both Cadmus and teacher had become frustrated with each other. He thought the teacher was holding back and not telling him how to really connect with nature. The teacher on the other hand had called him narrow minded and hard headed. Cadmus wasn’t really sure what any of that meant. The foal huffed again as he began to think of another way to achieve his goal.
He could figure this out himself! Cadmus was absolutely determined.Think…think…think he thought to himself as he peered through the underbrush at the world outside his hiding spot. As he began to formulate possible plans he started to put some things together. Those in the herd who could hear nature speak to them had a singular thing in common. These Cerynei had extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna around them. Cadmus had to think further now. He sighed and squinted at a bug crawling on the ground near him. Most Cerynei had at least a basic knowledge of the life that grew around them. The Vanaras herd members had more than a basic knowledge. All followed the old ways and revered the life of nature. The few members who claimed to be able to communicate with nature had some kind of extensive knowledge of the flora and fauna that grew in their territory. Cadmus let out a yelp of triumph, as the rest of the puzzle seemed to fall into place. Cadmus thought carefully about what he knew of the members. One was knew all of the yummy things you could eat that weren’t berries or fruit of some sort. Cadmus’ stomach rumbled in hunger as he remembered the fragrant woody plant he had sampled, something called honeysuckle. Another member was adept at healing and used maybe herbs and plants to do so. Cadmus also thought of the teacher he has just come from, who knew all there was to the life systems of the forest. Cadmus sighed at this thought and wished he hadn’t been so what was it?….hard headed… The foal decided that if he could learn all there was to know about the flora and fauna, maybe he would be able to commune with nature. Sighing with determination Cadmus emerged from his spot. He knew now he had been very wrong, he would go back to his teacher and apologize. He had been taught impeccable manners after all. Hopefully he could get the teacher to take him back. With a nod to himself he set off to set his plan in motion.]

Anything Else?: Mostly I would like to thank both of you for having a contest! You have spent a lot of time developing this family and herd and it is so amazing that one lucky person will get to be apart of it.(well the family bit at least, people can join the herd lol <3)

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[ Candle Wick Ghost ]

Name: Akakios (M) / Amaltheia (F)
----------• Origin & Meaning: Akakios - Means "innocent, not evil" (Greek) / Amaltheia - Means "To soothe" (Greek).
Temper: Illustrious
Personality:

( The basket will be a boy for the purpose of the contest, and for the sake of my sanity with the overuse of him/her, same personality will be used if it turns out to be a girl. )

Carved by the way nature intended, Akakios serves as a giver to those around him. He holds his family, his friends and his herd dear to him like all good and loyal members should. He would give his life for somebody he barely even knew if he felt that their intentions were good. Realising that loyalty is something invaluable, he chooses to be the one you can always rely on and put faith in. From a secret to a hand crafted war, he would be at the side of them all the way through.

He does come across as strange to others because of his tendencies to talk to the 'shadows.' It unnerves people and whereas he has come to understand this over time, he will take in consideration the feelings of those around him but he will not stop entirely believing that this gift of his will do a great deed one day. Behind the curtain he still stands for as long as he has spare to 'talk' to them and will do till the day he dies feeling no shame for it.

Beside the semi-serious part of his nature, Akakios is rather playful. He is always up for playing games feeling it as a challenge of some sort, a trait he may of gotten from his mother. Whether it is by mouth or action he can be a gentle tease. He loves a banter and will not deny it, be it stallion or mare he is a people person. He tries to do what is right even if that means being the bad guy through opinion or the eyes of someone else and will not hold the choice against them.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Akakios is drawn to shadows, it ties in with the prompt, and during it I thought it would be a good twist if he 'understands' them in a way he would never be able to explain;which is why he can stare at them for hours and continue to be entertained. It would be as if the shadows are talking to him, guiding him with answers in the way they move, like gestures that symbolise certain meanings, signs that he somehow can pick up on. The shadows can't truly speak to him but in a way it would be as if they're thinking with him.

Ideas For Plots:

I wouldn't want to rush in to any individual plots for him because I would be interested in how things would work within his family and herd first and how the relationships between the different members develop before thinking too far a head. Usually plots tend to work better that way from experience because more ideas for plots come to mind as it happens.

One plot that definitely calls to me would be the one below as well as general herd and family RP!

Mother & Son - Whereas some members of the herd can hear the whispers of nature, Akakios would like to talk to her about his own ability to understand the movement of shadows. Confronting her about her own abilities he would want to try unravel if it's nature that's communicating with him in a different way or if he is different entirely.

Position Among the Vanaras: Advisor

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [ 1 ]

Unable to fathom the idea of a creature that was out to torture, hunt or manipulate another living entity Akakios had looked upon the shadows created by the tree's that surrounded their herd-land on a daily basis. Some days had simply just been spent staring consistently at them as they swayed, their shape warped by the breeze and the changing of the burning light that crept in through the canopy till the twisted darkness swallowed it whole;that was when the shadows combined, throwing an onyx blanket upon them. He came to believe that those shadows were telling him to stay away and listen to his parents wise words, also warnings to not stray from their nesting grounds however in turn it was as if they were taunting his curiosity. To heed the warnings or listen to the "tread through if you dare" signs that he had picked up on.

It's not like he hadn't tried. He would sneak up on the shadows, willing himself to pass over or through them to see what was beyond the borders. If there really was such an evil living a long side their beautiful home, but when he reached out his hoof cautiously, the shadow always twitched and in fright Akakios had fled back to his parents panting and shaking like a lost little lamb. This day, he huffed loudly, brewing up the courage to tackle the terrifying gates that had entrapped him for long enough, squaring up the point where he was going to pass through, like it was another world to him and with a kick off the ground made a victorious leap in to the unknown.

Now what was he going to do? His parents nor his siblings would be with him if he did meet this demon spirit he had been warned about. He was alone. The worries kicked in quick and hit him hard, working himself up as images of being chased and attacked by a much bigger foe entered his mind. His petite frame flared up with chills and in the anxiety his hooves took him on the adventure he had been wanting without him being able to control them. It felt as if the spirits had possessed his body and willed him to search the land and find clarity for the depths of his curiosity. He was certain that his family and members of the herd would come looking if his whereabouts was unknown for long enough;at least he hoped.

Gulping, he was now surrounded by unfamiliar foliage. In a world that he had not yet explored and all the while a bad feeling niggled inside his mind. He would see one today, he just knew it. He would find what he wanted to see and figure out what the supposable demons were like for himself. It was up to him to learn so he could become strong and wise like his parents. The light above was slowly fading as he trailed about the woods eyeing every corner and jumping to the safety of bushes when the quietest of sounds were made by other roaming creatures. It was when the night had finally fallen upon the land that he decided to give up. His instincts had been wrong, he hadn't seen it for himself. Feeling the pang of failure Akakios directed himself back to the destination of the herd. Sighing in both relief and disappointment.

One day, he would see for himself what these demons were, if they had three heads and tentacles emerging from their body or if they were in disguise, like he had been told before about them wearing the skin of an animal just blissfully walking through, many unaware of their presence and true identity.

Snap.

Akakios tossed his head around to the side, his body following. Eyes wide and uncertain. It was the loudest sound he had heard all day emphasised by the eerie silence. He had been consumed in his thoughts for so long that he had forgotten the dangers of the night, the dangers the shadows had warded him away from. His body was frozen and whereas his legs were so eager to move like the wind earlier in the day they were now planted firmly on the ground, stuck in place by the fear that was coursing through the colts body. Next to him sat a large cat, licking at it's paws, tail end tapping the ground then twitching in to the air before repeating itself over and over again. He watched entranced by the motion, almost jumping from the skin on his back when his eyes moved back to the creatures face who's eyes were fixed upon him.

No longer did he want to know, no longer was the curiosity there. He just wanted to be home, in the watchful gaze of his parents as he nested with his siblings free of fear and the risk of becoming a quick snack for a demon in an animal's skin.

RUN, HELP, SCREAM!

Akakios found himself doing all of the above.

"HEEEEEELP IT'S GOING TO EAT ME. HEEEEELP!" Screaming, the colt bolted in the direction of the herd, stumbling and tripping all the way, barely managing to regain his footing each time the mishap caught his breath and triggered a mini heart attack in his alerted mental state of mind.

"MUUUM, DAAAAAAD!"

When he reached the herd-land, he threw himself in to a tumble landing with spangled legs spread out in a heap across the ground. Panting hard and sobbing. He nervously shot a glance over his shoulder to be assured that he wasn't being hunted by the large cat. He wasn't, but why? Had it been a demon? He wasn't certain but now the freedom didn't feel right as the paranoia caught up to him.

All he knew was that for now he was safe... But for how long?

Anything Else?:
I love huge amounts of rp! Especially when herds and plot-lines are involved. The concept is fantastic and would be something I would be especially interested to join in and be apart of. <3

I wouldn't mind making the antlers for the totem either. c:

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Elf Princess Flannery]

Name: Laurina(female), Saffron(male)
---------- • Origin & Meaning: after Hakea laurina a plant, and after Saffron Meadow, a plant
Temper: Botanical
Personality: (for the sake of response I will refer to the basket as female, but personality is same for male)
She enjoys the community and the company of others. The heard is precious to her and constantly seeks to be useful to them and her parents. But when she is alone, she will find a quiet secluded area near the heard to meditate. She will contemplate her purpose in the herd and brainstorm new ways they could make use of the surrounding plants and flora. When she’s not meditating, she is experimenting with plants and fungus to understand their botanical uses. These experiments often go wrong and she finds herself feeling sick or violently ill. So she is a bit of a troublemaker in that sense, but it is the fastest way to learn the effect of a certain plant.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: The dark markings or accessories (whichever or both) will make her curious about her twisted origins and will have the desire to understand the darker side of nature. Possibly show intense interest in poisonous plants, fungus, and insects. And will likely understand and discover how to combat the effects of them or discover how they might be useful to the herd.

Ideas For Plots:
-Encounter strange animal: She is insanely curious about the surrounding plants and wildlife; this could lead her to discovering something dangerous or mysterious.
-Eat a poisonous plant: depending on the severity of its effects, she may have to discover her own solution, or will have to be saved by one of her elders.
-Help another: after a couple first hand experiences with poisonous plants, she could help someone else who has eaten something poisonous and educate them, or help prevent them from further harm/damage.
-the apprentice: be taken under a healer or herbalist as an apprentice or student and learn the proper and traditional ways that certain plants are gathered and used for medical purposes.

Position Among the Vanaras:Gatherer , possible healer or healers assistant?

RP Prompt Number & Reply: [2.]

-Her mother always told her about the forest and how it spoke to her. Laurina believes her mother is genuine, but she herself can’t actually hear it. Several times she had spent hours alone in solitude, and quietly shut off her rambling thoughts one by one, until she was certain her mind would be clear enough and her ears open enough to hear the earth. To her disappointment she did not hear the earth, or the forest, just the soft breath of the wind brushing through the fuzz in her ears.

She tried to take it in a more literal way, and she lay down on her side and pressed her ear to the ground and waited. She lay so still and so quiet she could hear the blood pulsing through her veins. She slowed her breathing to a slow and steady rhythm. At a distance she may have looked unconscious or even dead. She didn’t care what she looked like; she was determined to hear the forest like her mother described.

“Earth, why will you not let me listen to your sweet song?” she asked it softly. After a few minutes of silence she answered herself, “Your lack of response tells me that I am trying to hard…” Laurina felt her heart sink a little. Was she broken? Did she lack something the others in the herd had? If she lacked her mother’s gift what purpose might she have?

“I have to challenge my value in the herd, I have to prove myself useful.” She said aloud to herself. But how would she do that? She could gather useful things. Laurina may not have the talent to be a spiritual healer, but she could at least gather plants! She remembered hearing about a plant that could relive headaches, and since all this thinking was giving her one, finding this plant sounded like a good idea. She remembered seeing it once, it came out of the ground in a shoot but the root was the useful part. It was supposed to have lots of uses, and if she could find enough of it, that might be useful to the herd.

She sat up and tried to stand, but she realized her legs were all stiff from lying down so long. She stretch for a minute or so, and extended her long dainty legs and warmed up her joints again. She looked around and behind her she could still see the herd grazing. She felt a twinge of anxiety; she didn’t want to stray too far from them. She heard horrifying stories about the monsters in the forest, and saw the scars on her older brother as proof of those nightmares. But everyone looked calm, and there was no need for alarm. She would just go a little farther out, just to scope out the area.

“Just find what I’m looking for and rush back..”

The air was quiet but she could still hear the birds and cicadas calling in the trees. She was told that the other animals and plants will give hints when something is amiss; so common chirping in the trees was a reassuring sound. Laurina looked back at the ground and quickly scanned a small perimeter. The plant she was looking for was not in the immediate area, and she expanded her search. In a tall patch of brush caught her attention. The grass had grown high, and was taller than her shoulders. She used her head and neck to gently push some of the grass aside.

Beneath her she could smell the plants pungent spicy aroma. She recognized the stalk of the plant and its leaf type and of course its smell. She used her cloven hooves to quickly unearth and push away the dirt around its gnarly knotted roots. The sent was stronger and she brought her face close to the root and sniffed it. The strong aroma made her nostrils twinge and burn slightly.

“What a curious plant..” she wondered what it might taste like, as fare as she knew it was safe to eat in moderation. Without hesitation she took a bite out of the plants root. She began to breathe as if to cool off her mouth as she chewed it. Her tongue felt like it was on fire and the heat spread to the back of her through as she finished and swallowed.

“Whooooooo… wow! That is, whooaow, hot.” She said and continued to breathe through her mouth. The heat intensified and she looked around for a pool or puddle of water. To her dissatisfaction there was no water in sight. She knew there was a shallow stream close to where the herd was grazing but didn’t want to run through like a frantic pony. That would be embarrassing, but the fire on her tongue was persistent.

She started to shake her head, and that shake shook down to her shoulders and back. She bounced up on her springy foal legs and bolted across the meadow. Others might look up at her in alarm, but she could not bring her mouth to the water fast enough. She raced through the herd, dodging the grazing herd members to reach the cold trickling water. After she emerged half her face and drank a belly full of water she sat back on the bank and sighed with relief.

Anything Else?: I love RP and Plot, I love to challenge my characters, and put them in dificult situations that truly show their character and true nature. I also love to draw them, drawing my characters helps me to develop them so expect the basket to have lots of art! xD Cerynei are my favorite breed, (and uni, and mixes of the two) I would be honored if this basket would be my first one.

Thank you for the opportunity and thank you for reading, hope you enjoyed it! Congratulations for your Cerynei and their beautiful baskets! Love them little tails! ;D

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Baby Pandah II]

Name: Neem (female)
----------• Origin & Meaning: India; Neem is a type of tree that provides some medicinal qualities such as neem oil, soap, capsules and other things. In India it is known as "the village pharmacy."
Temper: Observant
Personality: She is very interested in anything and everything around her, and she lists off characteristics of plants, vines, flowers, trees, and other beings.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: She inherited her mother's ability to hear nature, but she connects best with weeds/herbs and their purposes. Though she doesn't harm nature, she doesn't have any feelings towards it until it comes to weeds/herbs.

Ideas For Plots: Though her family feels connections with all nature, she will feel like she doesn't belong. Despite her family's reassurances she will feel different. Until she discovers that she and weeds have a use in life: Medicine. She will begin to explore the uses and benefits of the weeds and herbs she feels connections with and will be a healer of the herd.

Position Among the Vanaras: Medicine Maker

RP Prompt Number & Reply: 2
"All I hear is weeds. And weeds don't have much to say..."
Neem said drearily, gazing mournfully up at her mother, "All they have to say is: 'don't step on me, I'm prickly,' or, 'just try to eat me.'" She heard her mother lightly comment that perhaps her interpretation was askew, or that maybe she needed to listen harder. So she crossed her eyes, scrunched up her nose and really tried to listen. Nothing.

Weeds are nothing. I am nothing.
Every time her mother's large ears perked and swiveled, Neem wondered what minuscule voice she was hearing off in the distance. How is it that she could not even bear to listen to a leaf, while her mother, and the other members of the herd, were conversing with fully grown trees that stretched on and on into the sky? She wondered if her mother could hear the clouds.

"I know that this leaf is good to eat..." She said dreamily and plucked a leaf off of a bush, wondering if her mother could hear the leaves crying out in pain as she munched. At this thought, she spat the leaf out immediately and stared at it with that same scrunched, cross-eyed look that meant she was trying to listen. No use.

Why can they hear it? What do they hear? Will I EVER be able to hear it? Just as she was thinking this, she felt the a scrape on her leg begin to sear with pain. "Where did that come from?" She blurted out loud. And almost instinctually, without meaning to, she knelt down and placed the small wound in the chewed up leaves she had spat out. Instantly, the cut felt better. Strange, she thought. And then she went back to trying to listen.

Anything Else?: If the basket is male, the same concepts listed in this response can still be used or can be switched with the concepts in the response below. It all depends on what fits best for your herd and for the character. I will be completely dedicated to RPing/plotting with the character I have created in this response. I am already in love with this family and character.

A Little Something Wicked This Way Comes...
[Baby Pandah II]

Name: Alder (Male)
----------• Origin & Meaning: An Alder is a type of shrub/tree. There are 30 (maybe more) species of shrub tree within this genus.

Temper: Pensive
Personality: He is very introverted. He is friendly, but extremely thoughtful and therefore can be quiet. When someone gets him going though, he streams out his thoughts of life and nature, death and dying, into a seemingly endless rant.

Will You Incorporate Any Twists?: Alder inherited his family's abilities with nature, to some extent. Instead of hearing nature and life and interpreting their meaning, he hears death and connects with things that are no longer living and the spiritual aspect of nature. This does not mean that he is crazy, he simply has an appreciation and respect for death and it's voice and role in the world and nature. Deceased trees, plants, animals, even Soquili, reveal stories to him and he records those stories and retells them. Instead of feeling one with nature and life like his siblings and parents might, he feels that he will not be a part of the world until he dies and his remains become one with the earth as nature takes its course. This does not mean he is suicidal, he will not go looking for death. Though he doesn't understand it, he believes in nature and that it will do its part and will take him when it is ready.

Ideas For Plots:
At first he will feel like an outcast for his strange perspective on the world and nature. Perhaps his father will want him to become a protector or messenger, but he will be too wrapped up in his own world to comply with his father's hopes. He will become the grave keeper of the herd because this is where he is happiest. Perhaps he or someone else will find some trees he believes to be sacred or that the herd believes to be sacred and will be the protector of those.

Because skin walkers come through a dead tree gateway in a graveyard, perhaps he will go there against his family's wishes to speak with the dead there, and speak with a skin walker to better understand why they have attacked his family. Though he is not the power/leader/strength figure, he (and maybe his other siblings? biggrin ) will try to avenge his family and those that the skin walkers have killed, or the dead they have trodden upon when entering this world. This could lead to some trouble, but I think would be an interesting topic to explore.

He will lose someone important to him to death due to a skin walker or pure walker or kalona and will have to venture deep into himself to realize that he cannot bring that being back and no revenge will help. It does not have to be an actual soquili, it could be a familiar or something. An alternative could be this: If there is a ghost/death themed soquili out there somewhere, he could befriend that soquili and take the plotting from there. Something along those lines. This particular idea would need more development but could be juicy. :3

He meets a ghost/dark themed soquili and falls in love with her because she relates to his dark side. She may not feel the same so he will chase after her. His family and herd will be weary of her, and it may take some time and getting used to for them to accept his choice in a life mate.

Position Among the Vanaras: Grave Keeper (it is a new idea, yes. And though the Vanaras might not have a graveyard, perhaps he will inspire them to create one. Though there cannot be any official Soquili residing in the graveyard, perhaps it could be a graveyard of spirits of animals and trees and plants. A place for herd members to go to remember the spirits of trees and animals or past Soquili and other loved ones. He would help to interpret the voices of the dead and would tell the stories they left behind. It would be a sacred place, if there is not already one in existence for the Vanaras.)

RP Prompt Number & Reply: 2

I see the flower growing through the rocks. I can see its frail limbs pressing against the rocks, clawing, pushing towards the sky for freedom and I know this is Life. I can see the struggle the flower goes through to poke its petaled head through to take in a gulp of the sunlight. I can see its triumph and I can see the turmoil it has gone through to get there, perched atop the rocks of a river bed that water abandoned years ago. But I cannot hear the flower's shouts of glee, its call to the world that says "I am free, I am Life!"

My mother can hear it, and my siblings too. But I hear nothing that is living. I see the stories of those who are dying...or already passed. I cannot predict the future according to what the grass passes along to me, but I can remember the past by what a fallen tree has to say. I can see that despite the fact that the flower struggles against the rocks and wins its acclaim valiantly, it will soon crumple and rot in blissful and proud remembrance of its past. Its spirit will tell me the weight of the rocks, and twisting of its body and clenching of its roots until it reached its goal. But I hear nothing. I cannot ask the flower how it is feeling, or ask the storm when it is coming. I cannot comprehend what the leaves are whispering to my mother.

I am nothing to this world until death. I am not a part of this world because I do not understand it. Someday, I assume my body will rest upon the earth and melt into it, intertwining and weaving into it like the threads of a basket, and only then will I be able to understand the chit chat of the trees, the commentary of the clouds, the pride of the dandelion, only then will the world understand me in return.

Some think death to be a fearful and mournful thing. But me? Death is a higher enlightenment, something to be celebrated. The stories of the dead must be told and protected. I can observe the flower's adventures, but I must wait until its death to hear about it. I must wait until its death, and the flower will explain it to me. But for now I hear nothing...

Alder's head snapped from the flower to the sound of his mother's voice calling his name in the distance. His sides heaved as his lungs filled with air, then exhaled abruptly and he pried his young but dying body from the earth to trail after her.

Anything Else?: This plot/character can still be used for female or can be switched with the above response. Let me know what you guys like best! smile
Also, I am/ will be completely dedicated to plotting/RPing as I am now very excited to pursue the character I have developed in this response. Also, you have created a beautiful family that I (and my character) would be proud to be a part of.

UPDATED: To delete herd entry profile. Thank you for letting us know! smile 11/7/12
UPDATE: added another plot idea I thought of to the second response. : ) 11/7/12 6:06pm MST
