Mouse was feeling morose. She had been exploring, a curious little lady, searching the down for something good to eat before winter's breath finished off the clovers. She was hoping she could find a blossom or two, but found something else instead.

It was a bird, but nothing like she had ever seen before. It was so small and grey feathers melded with its brown ones. It was a sparrow and it was dead. Perhaps struck down but most likely it just died from age in the air. Mouse was normally very playful but for the moment she put her paws together and said a very soft prayer, unsure if the bird had beliefs as she did. She changed some words.

"My heart has joined the few for a new friend stopped flying today."

She wondered if he had a family. They were probably grown up now, but still she thought of Dropwort back in the warren and her heart sank a bit. She couldn't just leave the bird there...it would attract scavengers, start stinking and she had an odd feeling like it was waiting to be moved. She'd need help though. It wasn't big but it was big enough for her to be unable to move it alone.

She turned back towards the den, looking for someone who wasn't busy. "Um..excuse me?" She repeated in her adorable voice. She went mostly ignored. "Hello? Excuse me. i was-"
"Hmph." Sandbur grunted as she shoved past.
"Oh. Well maybe you could-"
"Sorry dear. These kittens don't watch themselves." Meadowsnip chided kindly.
"Oh! You-" She almost fell as dogsbane bolted past her.

She was starting to lose hope with this whole mess.

Dove was winding his way through the warren when his ears pricked to the sound of someone issuing a plea for help. His nose twitched as he peeked his baby blue eyes around the corner and spotted a rather distressed short eared doe. He gave a brief scratch to the side of his neck with a hind foot before hoping completely around the corner.

His nose twitched again. It was faint but he could smell the scent of death. His features turned from confused to concerned. "My my are you alright?" he asked her, looking her over. Obviously she was ok but had she just lost a kit? No no that couldn't be, surely she would be more frantic than that. He hopped a bit closer and stood up on his haunches. "Are you alright? You seem bothered." he questioned genuinely. He knew he had seen her around before....what was her name.... similar to his he thought. Ah yes... "Mouse... was it?" his little grey tail gave a small flicker.

Mouse turned when she heard the first friendly voice all day. She was so small compared to him and her eyes went big as she looked over his pretty pelt. Snapping out of her staring, she nodded a few times. "Yep! i am totally fine!" She wiggled both of her tiny ears and gave a little double step with her hind feet.

"Yes! It is mouse, Mr. Pigeon." She didn't mean to get his name wrong. "Its just...there's a bird in the clover patch. Its dead and it wasn't elil..its so small, just like me! But it can't stay there, can it?" She gave a little pout and wiggled her tail from side to side. "I can't move it on my own. Um..and I was looking for someone who could help me."

Dove was quite relieved that she was ok. A cute little doe like this gaining an early visit from the black rabbit would be most upsetting... at least to him anyways. "Well thank Firth your alright, I was quite worried for a moment." he grinned.

And then he chuckled at what she called him. Mr. Pidgeon was rather a cute name, maybe he'd name one of his kits that if he ever found a nice female and settled down with her. His ears gave a good natured twitch as he put his paws together and smiled at her. "No no, it surely can't. Not only for our safety but it's body deserves a proper resting place, don't you think?" he said as he hopped closer, noting how her tail wiggled, it was quite cute. "Show me where and I will be glad to lend a paw. Also, it's Dove, not pidgeon." he chuckled again and extended a paw for her to lead the way.

"Dove!" She corrected herself, leaping over a few long strands of grass. "Its this way!" She happily lead him towards the dead bird, her little tail wagging the whole way. She was happy to have found someone who shared her view.

"I was thinking we could put it..." She looked around from the high down. "Somewhere open to the sky." The down was very open but it still wasn't the right spot for it. She knew that was dangerous but she thought it be worth it. "Somewhere his spirit can fly free with nothing in the way." She slowly took its feet in her teeth and tried to pull it along, but it shuffled and many feathers came dropping out. "Oh dear.." She mused with a small frown. "Perhaps if you pull and I push it...or perhaps you could carry it."

Dove tilted his head and glanced at her. It would be dangerous yes but her idea seemed....only fitting. "I think he would like that very much Mouse." he smiled as he stopped next to her and giving her a gentle pat on the head with a delicate paw.

Hopping over to the sparrow, he wiggled his paws together, as if loosening them up, before wrapping them around the tiny thing. He used all his strength to carefully pick up the little bird and nestle it as best he could into his arms. This was going to make hopping difficult but he didn't want to risk dragging the body and or messing it up before they could lay it to rest. "After you." he smiled, hopping sort of silly like on back legs. "Though... we may have to make this a slow journey." he chuckled a bit jokingly. There was also the possibility of an attack to think about... Two rabbits and a dead bird that no doubt would attract a predator from a mile way... that was like dinner and a show.

Mouse took one look at the rabbit walking like he was carrying a bucket full of water and she had to mask a giggle with a few snorts. She couldn't help it! A stream of giggles rippled through her. "S-sorry! That's...you look really silly!" She puts her paws up over her nose and hopped from paw to paw joyfully.

When she settled, a few titters still leaking from her mouth, she hopped ahead of him, then behind, then settled beside, taking the tiniest hop at a time. "I agree. I'll be alert for danger!" She stood upright herself, only coming to her future mate's shoulder and snuffling her nose wildly, ears twitching to and fro.

For a long time they walked. Down the side of their hill, through the long grasses and towards the stream. "Shhhh...." She muttered, though he had not said anything. She perked to her hind legs and flicked her ear again. "There's something nearby."

A dark shadow leaped from the long grasses, its eyes golden and dangerous. "rrrribbiiittttt!" it roared. But Mouse was already gone, screaming like a maniac and running back the way she had come. If she carried on like that, a blinking toad would be the least of her problems today.

Dove watched her, eventually her laughter getting the best of him. He chuckled as he hoisted the sparrow higher into his arms as it felt like it would slip from all his laughing. "I bet I do look quite silly don't I!" he grinned as he did his best to waddle along while she hopped all around him.

Eventually when she settled at his side, he found himself smiling even more. Somehow this just felt right. He stole a few glances at her every now and then as they walked, glad that today seemed to be quite free of anything that might pose a problem. Or at least he thought.

He froze when she did, keeping quiet and pricking his ears for whatever it was she heard. He set the sparrow down, moving into a position to protect her from any harm so that she could make a clean get away.... but it was already to late. The furious roaring frog hopped from the long grass and away Mouse went, screaming louder than a hrududu. He paused, blinking after her before back at the frog before smiling. "Oh dear, seems you've caused quite the stir." he said in good nature to the frog before looking back over his shoulders.

"Mouse! Oh Frith...." he said, pausing mid sentence to not cure too badly. Tucking the sparrow into the long grass where he hoped it would be momentarily safe, he hopped after her, still calling, hoping to get her to calm down and stop running. "Mouse its alright I promise!"

He would find her, tharn under a berry bush. Her eyes were huge and she trembled, her paws covering her little head. Her hind legs tucked up close to her belly and her hair was on all ends. "Th-that...w-was it o-one of t-the thousand?" She asked, curious to why he wasn't panicking but still too afraid to go back and look herself.

She had never really been allowed away from the down. She was a curious doe and loved adventure, but her mom picked on her because she was the runt. All her siblings got to bounce and play and run free by the age of outskirter, but she was forced to live in her mother's burrow until she was an adult! So she hadn't been allowed to see frogs or chickens or cows or any of the animals that wouldn't hurt them.

When he found her, he couldn't help but smile. It was the cutest sight he ever saw, even if she was quite terrified. He hopped over and nestled down by her side, giving her a gentle pat to the head. "Not quite. It was only a frog. They wont hurt us, I promise." he soothed her while letting out a soft chuckle. "Have you not been out of the warren much then?" he tilted his head curiously, his ears and nose giving a small twitch.

"Not p-particularly." She answered in honesty, her eyes glancing up at him as she moved her paws and sat up, starting to groom herself again, giving a small sneeze.

Once her fur was smoothed back down, she sort of frowned and checked him over. "Where did you put our little birdy friend?" She asked softly, sliding back out of the bushes.

In the fresh mud and thinned grass, she could see her footprints, tizzying left and right and all over the place in a mad panick. "Sorry..." She mumbled. "You must think me a fool now."
