This is Mintaka's Thread
PostPosted: Fri Nov 02, 2012 9:58 am

Name: Failyn Namgung

Nickname: Fai (Fai.D.Flowright /slapped)

Age: 17

Birthday: October 3rd

Sign: Libra

Gemstone: Opal

Blood Type: O-

Fav. Food: Kimchi Hawaiian Pizza, Cinnamon Churro Ice Cream

Hated Food: Mushrooms, anything with Mushrooms

School: Crystal Academy (Females Only, rich girls or scholarships)

Hobbies:

Arts 'n' Crafts - If it has to do with art, Fai is all over it. She likes to paint, glue, sew, Cut, fold, Glitter....Draw, Scrap book, Bead...Literally anything like that. She keeps a huge collection of supplies in her dorm room, and a desk that looks like it went through a glitter bombed war and managed to come out with pieces of paper, glue and glitter deep in its woody drawers. It's her personal art creation station.

Gardening - Fai keeps her own mini garden box and various small plants around her dorm. Most of them are for aestitical appeal, being bright colored and green giving her room a almost homey feel. She enjoys planting and transplanting as a way to relax and let some steam off.

Action Figurines - She collects them...(they make up their own wall on the oppisite of the desk full of horror crafts...)

Kpop - Another small corner of her room is covered in fangirl posters, a small shrine dedicated to the hottest Kpop bands. She is quite adept in singing and often will sing songs that are stuck in her head. AND she will sing them in Korean because hey...SHE IS KOREAN HAHA.

Multilingual/Cultural studies - While fluent in Korean, Japanese and English..Failyn has worked her way into studying many cultures being the most promeniant in her own. She hopes one day to travel to many countries (AND STARS AND COMETS AND THE UNIVERSE)...

Virtues:

Friendly/Charming - Fai is absolutely the sweetest thing. She doesn't really have anything harsh or mean to say often and would love to give praise. She has been drilled since youth to have manners and thus, no matter who it is or how old, she adds Miss and Mister to their names when she talks. it could also be put that she is extremely friendly and loves to help, be involved with the community.

Diplomatic - Living within a half Korean and half American home, Failyn has learned how to safely approach subjects and reason out a solution, Mostly due to her father's cultural upbringing. She often reads a situation, proposes idea's, adapt, chooses her words carefully and consider solutions in ways that would leave both the parties satisfied, happy and beneficial.

Sincerity - Fai tries to exuded an image of a polite and sincere young lady in what she does. Genuinely it all comes from a good place and she will not try to deceive to get her way, or lie to make something out of nothing. There is no pretenses with her and most everything is out in the open as for her feelings and actions.

However, when pushed to the point of Passive Aggressive behavior, Her sincerity can crumble into a slight facade of well kept thoughts to herself and a justified 'If I have nothing to say that is nice, then I won't say it at all." Therein begins silent treatments and casually late meetings.

Flaws:

Uptight - Failyn feels like embodiment of a pristine young lady. Well trained manners, with a good education and well set family. Because of how she was raised her, Manners seem to be the ideal of her young adulthood and she has a hard time dealing with people who are often..brutish in their ways. She's quick to correct them on the proper way to behave, often showing or correcting them.

Stubborn - Once she gets an idea in her head, its hard to get her out of it. While she is easy-going and willing to adapt and adjust herself, there are times when a Idea roots in her head and STAYS there (Making it so that she unintentionally closes herself in and thus triggers Passive Aggressive. It's super effective) Her stubbornness contributes to both of her behaviours in two ways. One: It can help motivate her to work hard in her diplomatic negotiations or...Two: It hinders her from working through a issue when she is firmly rooted in her opinion and she can't have the other party see it like herself.

Passive Aggressive - It's hard to get her riled yes, but once you do and she can't reason with you, there in sets the motion of passive aggressive behaviour from her. Conveniently being late or forgetting things..Cold shouldering into long silences, only till someone has apologized (aka not her...). However, she will recognize and own up to her behaviour if called out on it. It just wouldn't stop unless apologies were exchanged.

Senshi: Sailor Mintaka, Senshi of Origami

Challenge: I'll fold you into the form of justice!

Fuku Colour:
Main Color: Dark purple
Secondary Color: Red

Fuku: ....TO THE RIGHT

Attacks:

Sailor Scout Attack: Origami Flurry

Mintaka summons over 250 small paper cranes and paper stars that blind in a flurry, lasting less than 20 seconds but can be pretty annoying. It acts more as a defensive distraction, by blinding an opponent, Think of snow as it falls, it gets quiet and heavy and as it starts...it builds and builds until all you can see is paper cranes and stars. (Occasionally there is a paper cut or too but overall its meant to blind rather than hurt.) Her range though is max 10ft from herself and can be deflected by air currents, gust of wind and covering her eyes. It's also ineffective if the enemy is out of range or moves out of range.

Super Sailor Scout Attack: Origami Flurry Redux

With the upgrade, she can now summon 500 Cranes, Stars and Flowers in her flurry. This attack last up to 30 seconds, though the same effects still arise. Blinding is still the main idea but the amount of damage from paper cuts have increased. It's not traumatic but it can be annoying. Range is 15ft max, again can be deflected by strong gust of winds or currents, not in range or deflection by covering oneself.

Eternal Sailor Attack: Origami Blizzard

With her final upgrade, Mintaka can summon up to 1000 cranes, stars, flowers and various other small origami shapes that attack much like her two attacks before, Instead of just being blinded (but still focused on blinding), it reaches an actual damaging amount of papercuts. It stings, small cuts form in the most of annoying spots and are hard to deflect. This effect last up to a minute. Range is 15ft max and with the heavy amount of origami shapes, a deflection can only happen by violent winds...(Such as strong gust or gales of storm strength), or if the target is out of range.

ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE ---

The "Diplomatic" virtue could use some work in the language of its description. While I understand the intent of the virtue, it can read as a little too forceful in its description of her being almost manipulative or tricky. This just requires some rephrasing, like "navigates her word choice carefully" or something along those lines in a way that doesn't reference how other people would react to her.

"Multilingual" doesn't quite qualify as a virtue, but I think there is a good base to a virtue here as a focus on cultural intelligence, or strength with language (which can be seen in "Diplomatic").

In general, we do not count phobias as flaws so "Cleithrophobia" would need to be changed. However, once again there is a good base here to make a flaw out of. If she is prone to panic attacks or anxiety, this could be a flaw with being enclosed in spaces as a trigger to her anxiety (as long as the anxiety isn't too specific to just these circumstances so that it can be seen in more day to day things).

The "Stubborn" and "Passive Aggressive" flaws do contradict with her "Easy-Going" virtue a bit. They feel opposite of each other, so would require more explanation as to what her limit is. Remember, flaws need to be externalized and visible to other characters and also come up in day-to-day things, not just in the extreme situations. Perhaps clarifying what things she is easy going about, then thing she is stubborn or passive aggressive about would be a solution.

As a note, there needs to be an equal number of virtues and flaws in order for a quest to be stampable. With this current list, either a virtue would need to be dropped or a flaw would need to be added.

ON THE POWERED SIDE ---

As written, the powers don't quite work but are very close. Senshi don't summon weapons or items to utilize, but Mintaka can surely summon origami cranes that magically attack (rather than magically summon and then be used).

For instance - in her Sailor Scout attack, she would summon 3-5 magical origami cranes that are sent out like projectiles in a flurry, or even are summoned for maybe 30 seconds and she has that allotted time to magically project each one (like magic missiles).

The upgrades suggested for the later attacks work as well under some magical format like this.

For the Eternal attack, if the small stars or flowers do anything different than the magical cranes, please specify how - and if not, specify that they don't.

Overall, this is a strong start for a profile! If you have any questions, feel free to quote me and I will get back to you as soon as I can. When you have made your revisions, quote me and I will give the quest another look!

Concept-ing for origami attacks (since you said you needed help):

-Since 1,000 is traditionally the magic number for paper cranes, you could have an attack that is basically a spray of 1,000 paper cranes (think energy blast made of sharp origami). It also removes the weapon aspect of the attack. Paper cuts abound!

-You can do a lot more than paper cranes with the attacks (if you want). There are origami shuriken, tigers, etc. which you could draw inspiration from.

-You also don't have to have actual "attack" powers, they can also be defensive or healing - so long as all your powers have the same focus. Since the paper crane legends tend toward wish fulfillment in the form of protection/healing, you could potentially have a protective wall of paper cranes, a protective folded-paper box or paper cranes which heal those they touch (pending GM approval).

Edited hobbies to include Multilingual and Cultural studies, I don't know if she has too many or if I should take one out. (Maybe gardening?)

Updated Flaws and Virtues and tried rewording. I'm seeing the contridictions though between the stubborn and easy going and just having a hard time with it all together so I might scratch it. Please let me know what you think of the changes while I look at other possiblities for flaws!

Updated Attacks
I really liked the idea of 1000 Cranes and was thinking of some way to incorporate it in so that really helped as well. Please let me know what you think and if it sounds plausible!

You guys have been really helpful, thanks again for looking over this for me and being patient and all that <3 Hopefully I will get more time to work on her eventually ROFL.

ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE ----

This is a great improvement so far!

However, as it stands, the Easy-Going virtue contradicts nearly all three of her flaws and also makes all of her flaws too situational. Flaws should be something that are present frequently, not just seen when in certain situations such as feeling trapped or pushed to her limit. I think if the Easy-Going virtue were dropped and replaced so that the flaws can appear more often than when she is pushed to her limits, then the contradictions would be removed as well.

For the Restraint flaw, I think I get where you are going with this, but more clarification or examples would be helpful.

ON THE POWERED SIDE ----

Overall these look like they may be okay, but a few things can be clarified in each power just to be certain:
- What do the attacks feel like? Are they meant to be an offensive attack (paper cuts) or a defensive distraction? Right now they read as a little bit of both, which is fine, but it should lean more one way than the other.
- If it is an attack, how painful is it? Paper cuts can be very painful - 250 to 1000 paper cuts would be brutal.
- Can they be deflected by other means such as blocking with your arms, shielding behind something, or running away?

Whew! I thought about it long and hard and decided that you were right ROFL Easy going is making it hard to get her flow right so I changed it to a trait that is a more little underlined.

For the Restraint, I changed it to Boxed in instead, so it seems a little more clearer? hopefully it does.

For the powered side, I was thinking the first two attacks were more dedicated to defensive blinding rather then pure attack...with minimal damage and her final attack would still be Blinding but double as a somewhat damaging.

Is there anything else I should really touch deep on? /RUNS TO YOU FOR ALL THE THINGS SPY..ALL OF THEM

Help is what I'm here for! Overall you're doing great, just a few points to clarify on.

ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE ---

However, the Boxed In flaw now reads as a sort of combination summary of how her Stubborn and Passive Aggressive flaws can interact with each other rather than reading as its own, unique flaw. The Stubborn and Passive Aggressive traits both cover her ways of approaching conflict or confrontation, so perhaps a different flaw that sheds a different light on the character would be helpful.

With her current flaws having to deal with her having some level of inflexibility, the integrity of her Diplomatic virtue is called into question. The flaws themselves don't contradict with being Diplomatic - she can be Diplomatic and Stubborn through taking an open-to-compromise diplomatic approach for her stubborn desires, and Diplomatic and Passive Aggressive by taking a passive aggressive approach when diplomacy fails - but make sure it are no contradictions in the form.

(Also on that note, as a small thing: I did notice now though that in Diplomatic section, she is referenced as Mintaka, her powered form, rather than Fai, her civilian form!)

In general, with easy-going removed as a virtue, the flaws could be retouched up to exclude mentions of her being easy-going.

Another small question that could be cleared up - in the Charming section it says she refers to everyone as Miss or Mister regardless of age. Does this include close personal friends, or just people that may be authority figures of some sort where formality could be appropriate?

ON THE POWERED SIDE ---

Looking much better! Just a few more notes here:

When referencing that the attacks blind the opponent, please clarify how they blind them. I assume it is meant by obstructing their vision through so many paper cranes and not literally blinding them with the origami poking at their eyes. (It may seem silly, but for powers its very important to be clear on this sort of thing.)

For the Eternal attack, its okay for each stage to elevate in the damage potential since overall the damage is fairly minor, but since the first two attacks focus more on defense, clarify that the main goal of the Eternal attack is also defense rather than offense.

For the duration of the attacks, what are they doing during this time? Do all the paper cranes get summoned at once and float around in a frantic frenzy around their target for that duration or are they slowly summoned over time in that duration? Either way would be fine, but just clarify!

Whew I think I got her all wrapped up? Wanna take one more look?
PostPosted: Sun Nov 11, 2012 1:37 pm

Nyxtsuki Moon

Hi Nyx! Sorry about the delay in response. You are so close!

ON THE CIVILIAN SIDE ---

For the "Sincerity" virtue I would just add a clause to the end that explains the passive-aggresiveness more. The two traits contradict slightly, but since she is honest when called out for any passive-aggressiveness I feel that the two traits can coincide. A clause in the Sincerity virtue section would just clear this up even more, though.

ON THE POWERED SIDE ---

The Eternal power's language needs to be just tuned down a little bit. Remove the phrases "Sure to be an attack you won't forget." As for deflection, tropical storm winds should be more than strong enough to blow away paper cranes, but I understand wanting the Eternal power to have a little more wind resilience. Just tune it down to general storm winds and that should be fine.

Other than these changes I think the character is about ready, so quote me when you've made these changes! Thank you!

thank you Spy! You are always such a great help and I appreciate you and the advice you have given me <3

I've changed the wording on the powered side, and added a small blurb to her sincerity that I hope helps clear up the contridictions.

Let me know if its okay? > v <
