Sasha sat in the labs at a computer, the bright glare of the screen giving her skin an unearthly glow in the otherwise dim room. The blinking cursor mocked her, and Sasha leaned back in her chair with a sharp sound of annoyance.

She read what she'd typed, lips moving silently as her eyes moved from word to word.

Golem will have a high chance of instability.
Dissipation: unknown.
Reaction: unknown.
Trace: unknown.

Pressing the heels of her hands against her eyelids, she let out a soft groan.

It was going to be a long, long night.

Late night studying was a thing Lex abhorred, but found completely necessary. He was just starting to recognize Norse around the labs, and only the simple runes at that; but it was a start. However, he still needed a coffee break, and was on his way to the kitchens when he saw a lone computer on, with a lone girl sitting there, rubbing her eyes.

A small smile flickered across the man's face as he continued on his way to the kitchens, returning with two cups of java. The life trainee made his way to the desk where the girl was, and set a cup down beside her.

"Thought you might need this."

While coffee wasn't something that Sasha drank on a regular basis, she could appreciate the gesture for what it was worth. Sending the stranger a hooded look, Sasha lifted the cup to her lips and took a sip.

It wasn't tea, but it would do.

"Thank you," was spoken over the rim of the mug. She tilted her head to the side. This one was not one she'd met before - not that she could remember, though she could recognize him from twitter.

"Lex, hmm?"
PostPosted: Thu Nov 01, 2012 12:18 pm

Ah, she knew his name. Lex kept smiling, raising his own mug to take a sip of it. He also recognized her from Twitter, though she never said much. "Mhm, and you're Sasha if I remember? Good to see you in the workplace." He was sure he'd seen her before around the labs, but never actually interacted with her - like most of his Twitter contacts.

He gave the screen a quick glance, piquing an eyebrow. "What are you working on?"

Sasha turned her gaze back to the computer.

"A pet project."

Something she hoped would elevate her status once she became a full hunter, but that was not for him to know.

"What do you know about golems, Lex?"

She arched her shoulders and neck - there was a delicate pop here and there - before she took another sip of the rich coffee.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 01, 2012 12:27 pm

Those pops didn't sound too good, but Lex was no chiropractor. Nor was he a masseuse, but he was nearly tempted to work some finger magic. The voice of reason told him no, because he had no clue what she would do, and his read on her was that she wasn't the flirtatious type.

So instead he pocketed his hands and bit his bottom lip. "Can't say I've studied them too much. Been in one, wasn't the best feeling in the world though." Whoops, his hands were on the back of her chair. He'd just keep them there.

Can I help in some way?" And his hands found their way to her shoulders.

Whoops.

A small, private little smile spread across her lips when she felt his fingers land across her shoulders.

She allowed it. For now.

If he tried anything funny, she'd break his nose.

"I'm working on a new golem. A smaller, more compact golem, still controllable by a hunter, but much more difficult to - ah, right there, that feels nice - much more difficult to sense by those who live on the other side."

She had to admit, she loved these games.

"I'm trying to compose a proposal that I can submit to the doctor, but it's easier said than done."

She said yes, so Lex complied. He began the shoulder rub slowly, working his palms deep into the muscles behind her shoulder blades, listening to her talk about the new golem she was working on, still smirking.

"Sounds very interesting. I take it we've had problems with being detected before, then?" That was a little concerning, really. What was the point of the golems if they couldn't hide a hunter all too well? Seemed a little counter productive - obviously Sasha thought the same.

"You know, I still haven't met the Doctor yet." A thoughtful look came over his face, pondering just why that was. "What are your opinions on our lead?"

"I haven't heard anything about anyone being detected - but, having been in a golem myself, sometimes it's hard to keep in character. I thought that a smaller golem - something native to their world... it would be easier to move around unnoticed."

Sasha closed her eyes and took another sip of coffee, pausing to send Lex a look over her shoulder.

"I trust him with my life. Most others on the island think otherwise, but it's not my place to care what others think of him, or of me."

She chuckled darkly.

"You should meet him. Make your own decisions. He's a complex man."

Lex was a smartish man. Not a genius, but he could put two and two together quite quickly. A knowing smile spread over his face, and he stopped the shoulder massage.

"You mean to a golem that mimics the little pet things they keep in the wild. Genius."

He pondered the concept for a while, letting his fingers do the talking. Then he zoned back in, aware of the topic still.

"I really should, it's not the most professional thing to only know your boss' secretary. Though, she is quite pretty." And probably around his age. Yes, Lex was eyeing Clarice.

Sasha glanced over her shoulder at him, a very pleased smile curving her lips.

"Isn't it brilliant?" Rhetorical question, she wasn't really looking for an answer. Sasha hummed softly as his fingers worked their magic against her shoulders, that pleased smile never once leaving her lips.

"Clarice? She's.. more than a secretary. She's well-liked around here, well-loved. A mother figure, I guess you could say." Sasha shrugged.

"I don't know her all that well, truthfully. She's nice enough."
PostPosted: Mon Nov 12, 2012 6:25 pm

"Ah, my bad then. Is she more like his right hand?" Because if so...well, that would be really unprofessional. He didn't seem to mind much, if anyone paid attention to his face, but he truly did. How would he excel if he didn't make connections early on?

He continued the massage, losing himself in the actions. It was so easy to just zone out while doing such a rhythmic, patterned action.

"So I take it you're more interested in the development of technologies, then?"

"Something like that. His protege, I guess you could say?"

Sasha rose to her feet, slipping around the chair so that she could lean against the desk. She braced herself on her hands, crossed her ankles, and gave Lex a slow, slow smile.

"Mm. There's just something about the golems. Subterfuge. The gathering of intel and information."

Her smile broadened.

"Secrets."

Sasha shrugged, though her gaze never left his.

"I appreciate that sort of thing, for what it's worth."

When she rose, Lex lifted his hands to allow for movement, and to see what she would do next. Had she walked away, Lex would have gone back to his books, filling his mind with enough Norse to make even Regal proud.

The Gryphon would have laughed at the notion.

Instead, she was looking dead at him. Lex piqued an eyebrow, smirking lightly.

"Mm, skeletons in the closet are quite fun to find." A pop of his knuckles, a crack of the neck. "Though, I prefer that only the necessary ones be kept in."

"Quand un secret est révélé, c'est la faute de l'homme qui l'a confié," Sasha ended the phrase with a little flourished wave of her hand, the bridge of her nose wrinkling slightly as she gave a lopsided smile. It was not a nice smile, or even very welcoming - but a cool, haughty curve of her lips.

"When a secret is revealed, it is the fault of the man who confided it," she translated for him, brows lifting slightly. "I, for one, prefer to keep my secrets close, but there is just something so," she bit her lower lip briefly, "exciting in seeking the secrets of others. Pulling them out and laying them bare. Learning what makes things tick."
