All predators were expected to pursue, capture, kill. When Chyou ran across her chosen hunting ground, she gave the impression she was born for nothing else. Be it the favored open-range Savanna or a sylvan glade, her every move was calculated and meaningful. The exceptional finesse, to that day, had gone unnoticed by the bulk of her family and friends, curtained by the less ingenious pieces of her personality.

She was too nice, too forgetful. Too much of a lot of things that would never help paint a picture of a gifted and innovative hunter (and she was not one to brag). Zebra, hares, antelope; wildebeests, waterbucks, and snakes. She'd hunted them all. A few birds here and there, too. Not to say she was the flawless pursuant of game, but she could be ranked highly among her fellow carnivores. That much was certain.

Some members of her family speculated she'd died already. One had even gone so far as to plead with her not to leave for fear she was damning herself to starve. She'd never make it. She'd never last. That's what the lioness had told her, and while it was grounds for offense, Chyou forgave her. Then, she left.

Starvation had never been a threat. Another 'S' word was bound to be the death of her if age wasn't: Strangers. Empathetic souls like hers willing to exonerate nearly any wrongdoer of nearly any crime were at high risk with the number of lion vs. lion attacks on the rise. In a world as cold as this, something had to be wrong with anyone who could look in the face of their enemies and smile.

One day, someone might take advantage.

One day, someone might kill her.

Or maybe that day they would. Maybe soon. Maybe it would be that exact moment she sat in the grassy clearing gnawing on her hare, relishing in her success, no matter how small a victory it was. She was sure there was another lion fast approaching.

Mircea sighed as he continued his wanderings. While he could go to his brother's pride at any point, he wasn't content with just sitting at one place. His brother had grown without him, not needing him anymore, and he was fine with that. It meant he would be fine and that Mircea could count on his brother staying alive.

But what did this mean for him? All he had been doing after that had been wandering, trying to find a place to live, at least for a couple of months before he had to move again. It was for various reasons too, sometimes it would just be a better place for the others trying to come in than him, other times he would have been killed if he had tried to fight off the invaders, and fighting was something he liked to avoid if at all possible.

He only hunted when he needed too, other times were spent wandering and resting. He supposed that one day he should at least find a mate to have cubs with, but he wasn't sure what to look for, and rogues were often unpredictable.

Chyou was too humble for her own good. She could have taken down another source of food all by her lonesome; eaten like a queen if she tried hard enough. In her opinion, lions were meant to stick together, be they stranger or life-long companions. When she was alone, a wildebeest was just a wildebeest. But when another lion was around, suddenly, every thing with hooves appeared the size of an elephant.

Part of being a superb hunter was making time count. She wasted none of it in recruiting Mircea for her plan. Humming a little tune on the way, she crossed the distance between them. "Hi, I'm Chyou," she said first. Through trial and error she had learned giving your name upfront yielded the best results. "Are you hungry? I could use some help with a herd I saw not far from here."

Mircea had sensed another lion in the area, and was a bit cautious when the the female approached him. She seemed to pose little threat however as she hummed her way right up to him and introduced herself. Although a surprise, at least she was being straightforward. Listening to her proposal he felt his stomach growl a bit. Another lion helping would make the hunt easier...

"All right. I'm Mircea by the way." He replied, looking at her and nodding his head for agreement. "I guess a kill would be easier with two lions. Where is the herd?"

As someone who preferred to see the silver lining -- or color it that way herself if she had to -- Chyou was not surprised by how positively her offer was received. She jerked her head in the direction of the wildebeest herd, then started with a steady trot in that direction. It was better to not waste energy running so early.

"Mircea," she chirped, as if trying the name out. "I like it. Where are you from, Mircea?"

Mircea smirked a bit. He had never heard anyone really liking his name before. "The rogue lands a bit towards the more eastern part, or at least that's the most I can remember." He replied scrunching up his face a bit as he tried to remember what his mother may have looked like and catching up to the lioness. He couldn't come up with anything. "So Chyou, do you live around the area? I tend to wander around mostly myself."

Chyou hadn't noticed Mircea lagging behind. Her eyes were front and center, scoping out the area that awaited them and any potential prey. Her heart wasn't set on wildebeest; if they encountered some zebra first, for example, she'd be fine eating that.

"Me? Nope. I don't live anywhere." That was the truth. She had, once, but not since. "I just go where there's food," Chyou explained, grinning. "Not sure where I'll be tomorrow or the day after that. Move with the herds, y'know?"

He nodded his head in understanding. He certainly didn't have any permanent place to stay, and if the opportunity to join a pride presented itself he would probably join it. "Yeah, better to make sure you aren't hungry than trying to find a permanent home." He started to look around also, making sure they were going where he had last seen the possible prey.
