A nobleman in Palisade, Lord Deveroux is a hedge witch only in secret.

To all but the closest of his flock, this man is one of science and eccentricity who leads a life both of excess and temperance. His clothing is lavish and ornate, filled with flowing green robes, gold trim and accessories, feathers in his hat and across his shoulders, as well as the poofiest sleeves one can imagine. He considers himself in the height of fashion, though others may be hard pressed to follow along. Deveroux's darkened skin draws the color out of his clothing and makes them seem even brighter, along with his piercing yellow eyes and short, dark hair. One thing's for sure, he almost always leave an impression on people and is difficult to forget.

Deveroux is one to grow bored quickly, therefore he surrounds himself with the entertaining; people of interest, amusing creatures (a key factor in his choice of Familiar, let alone Grimalkin), strange knick-knacks, holding masquerades and balls on a whim, and when he grows tired of those things, he travels without first laying plans. Despite this, Deveroux is a rather soft spoken man and can often be found by himself. What he enjoys more than being apart of these events, by far, is observing them. He has a distinctly analytical mind and is quick to pick apart anything and everything, even if it's something that really shouldn't be cut down into a formula -- like humor.

Lighthearted, he can have difficulty understanding the weight and severity of certain situations, especially those that concern complex emotions. It isn't that he doesn't want to understand, he just has difficulty empathizing because he has never truly felt loss or hatred for anything. Despite this, he will always lend an ear and shoulder to those in need and attempt to comfort those he cares about in any way possible, sometimes even offering these things to strangers if he feels they're trustworthy enough. That may seem to give off the vibe that Deveroux is naive but he is, in actuality, quite calculating and picks up on very minute body language and social cues. His mind is always working, analyzing, scrutinizing -- just don't think that means he's always right; a large part of science is failure, after all.

The way this hedge witch studies and performs magic is quite untraditional. In fact, Deveroux is something of a skeptic himself when it comes to the Old Ways, hedgecraft proper, and even the mysterious surrounding the Wardwood. To study his own arts, Deveroux utilizes complex mathematics, charts, and scientific deduction as best he can, fudging the spaces in between with his subtle arts. His specialty lies in the arts of detection and protection for and from magical entities, which is one reason so few know of his true nature as a practitioner of the hedgecraft. At his weakest, these abilities would only be able to work as a sixth sense strengthened by his Grimalkin in acquiring hints of those who are touched by the Wood or practitioners themselves. However, at his strongest, Deveroux could set up a temporary field where other magic users would be disoriented and have a harder time calling upon their talents.

Deveroux is also currently the guardian to Deimos' chosen, Merrik Lemaire.

Palisade Lap Cat
Synell is the type of cat doesn't realize its a cat. More to the point, she's the sort of cat that acts like a dog. Physical affection is one of her most loved past times and she spends a great deal of her time napping directly in Deveroux's lap while he works. Though she is a Familiar and naturally adept at detecting magics as well as her species' ability to sense spirits, she never seems actively aware of these things nor does she intentionally use them. Shortly after Synell was born to a stray Grimalkin mother in a litter of five other kittens, the feline family was blamed for a string of sickness that graced the streets of Palisade. The people chased the mother from her kittens and Deveroux was the one to chase the people away from them. One dark, purple eyed kitten clung to his robes and wouldn't leave him be. He took the whole lot home to keep them safe, perhaps give them up to some of his associates who could care for them. Instead, their mother returned and took the kits back, save for one who continued clinging to Deveroux as if she understood that he had saved their lives. Since, the mother and litter have taken up a home on the grounds of Deveroux's estate and Synell visits them regularly. She sometimes rooms with Deimos in the stables, curling up on his back while he's sleeping.
