Melvin worked in the Life labs, though as a trainee was usually assigned the menial jobs. He had more than enough times been assigned to bring food or watch over someone in the Infirmary as they recovered. He'd watched over Otto and Ro, and once he heard about Rep, he saw this was a easy way to visit while disguising it as work.
The door the Infirmary opened, and passing some Life techs, he went to see any sighs of red hair and cursing. It wasn't hard to spot Rep, and Melvin took his sweet time walking over. "So...now you are finally here."

Rep hated being confined more than anything else. He got bored so damn easily even when he had free run of the island, so being trapped here, in the enemy territory that was Life labs, riled him up no end. There was nothing he could do, he couldn't even read thanks to the fact that moving his arms - and he'd tried - was excruciating.
So he slept, or tried. Trying to spool away the time until he could get out of this ******** hateful place.
He was dragged out of a light nap by Melvin's voice, thinking groggily that he sounded like a villain greeting his nemesis. He opened one eye, looking like he was on one of the worst hangovers of his life. "I'm always ******** here." he growled raggedly. "Was just before you got to the island."

Melvin grabbed a chair, moving it over to sit down. "Seems no one has a strong grasp at self-preservation. I've only been here a short while.." It didn't feel like it. Over a month and it felt like forever. "..and I've had to sit on several of you guys being stuck in here."
He looked Rep over, noticing the bandages on his shoulder. "Ophelia said there was a lot of blood. What the hell happened to you?" Knowing what little he did about Rep, he assumed it was a fight. Did he get into a spar without a weapon?
Reaching over, he picked up the clipboard from Rep's bed and, looking around to see that the techs wouldn't get on his case, he started to read it.

Rep didn't even think anything of Melvin picking up the clipboard at first, just dealt with the initial twinge of shame and loathing at the question of what happened. "I fell." Was all he deigned to say. "Apparently humans are ******** fragile without weapons. Who knew right?"
It was only then that his brain threw up a little red flag reguarding his notes. "Oi! Who the ******** said you were allowed to read that!?"

Melvin looked up from reading the notes, watching as Rep caught on. "Oh, I wasn't asking for permission....William." He smiled as he looked back down at the notes.
"Falling, huh. Did you fall on razors and....open wires?" He said, looking back up at Rep and seeing through his story. "Now Rep, you can tell me if Jordan and Ace are beating you. It's okay. No one will think less of you." He teased. Rep sounded like those abused women on Lifetime, and Melvin couldn't help himself from making the joke.

Rep shot Melvin an acidic glare as he called him by his proper name. "Its Rep." He tried to tense up defensively as usual, but clenching his fists made his shoulders stab with agony. He hissed though his teeth in pain and made himself relax, actually having to take a few deep breaths before picking up the train of thought again.
"I ******** fell and that's it." He'd have gotten up to snatch the thing back but that was frankly impossible as things were, not to mention he didn't think there'd be much masculinity or impressiveness in falling out of bed in a hospital gown. There were myriad reasons why standing was frankly not an option. "No one can ******** beat me anyway, right now I'm still one of the ******** toughest guys on this nancy island. This is just a ******** setback."

Baneful My internet is wonky so tag. Melvin continued reading, very aware that Rep would not make the attempt. Then again, if he did, he wouldn't be much use getting him back into bed. He tried lifting up Rep once before when they played Jenga and knew it was out of his physical limits.
"Stronger than those at your rank. You do have superiors, and I've seen what some of them can do." The few missions he had seen higher ranking hunters come to their aid and do massive attacks with large, glowing, weapons. It was a clear status symbol that stood out more clearly than any colors on a coat.
"I helped Ophelia clean your blood. There were no stairs. You just want to bullshit me then just say that you don't want to tell me. It's insulting to think that you, being the strongest guy you claim to be, was bested over some stairs."
He leaned over and set the clipboard back in place.

"I mean the people without weapons. The division leaders and s**t that are still alive still have theirs obviously. I don't have Tracey. But without him I'm stronger than most of the ******** weedy nerds and bitches running around like they own the place." Even completely laid up in bed, he managed to look Melvin up and down disparagingly.
There was an even sort of challenge in his voice, still talking slowly, carefully and much more quietly than usual thanks to his damaged ribs. "Well then I suppose its a mystery mister science man, because my story stays that it was stairs. Insulting or not." As always the Life hunter was to the point straight as an arrow, telling him he was bullshitting rather than indulging him.
"So are you here like, just to gloat at me or are you actually here as some kind of ******** nurse?"

Melvin took no offense. He was comfortable in knowing he wasn't a jock. Why have pride in something he wasn't skilled in? Instead, he just let Rep rant like he always did, puffing like a rooster in the face of any male that he saw as a threat (which was everyone). Rep stuck to his story, and Melvin chalked it up to not being close to Rep for the man to just be honest. So be it.
"Then it was stairs." He knew it wasn't, and he was sure Rep knew he knew it wasn't.
"Why would I gloat? You haven't done anything to me. I just saw all the blood and wanted to make sure you were alive, check up on you, and well, yeah. I do work here. If you can eat, I could grab something. I've done it for everyone who gets stuck here. Otto, Ro, Ophelia, and even Lance." He got sent to the Infirmary a lot as the doctors were above fetching food.

He was grateful as Melvin let it slide without digging too deeply. He could imagine it already if he told him it was Sasha, he'd have to explain every single part of the encounter as it happened, and he wasn't sure he was prepared to deal with that right now. Even thinking passingly about the run in touched upon a black and evil sort of hatred that ran right to the heart of him. He didn't have the energy to host that sort of malevolent rage right now, he needed to stay calm and collected. It was easier to do when he was somewhat fuzzy round the edges with painkillers anyway. Stairs it was.
"Thanks." he said almost inaudibly.
The fact that he was even inclined to check up on him was baffling to Rep, as far as he was aware, he was just a moron to be shaken down for information now and again by the other man. Maybe, he figured, he wanted to examine healing rates up close or something. He couldn't entirely believe it was purely selfless. His doubts were given foundation as he confirmed he'd done it for everyone, not just him. His interest faded almost immediately. "Don't think I'm allowed to eat right now." He held up the hand with the IV drip in it before outright yelping in pain as he did so, freezing in agony as every single stitch punished him for not paying attention. "Oh for <******** sake." he hissed.
As soon as he composed himself he snarled vindictively. "Women."

Melvin winced at Rep hurt himself, not envying him but all around wanting him not to make things worse. Maybe they should have kept him drugged till he wasn't inclined to wave about.
At the last comment, he was entirely baffled. "Women?" What did women have to do about this?
He narrowed his eyes. Melvin was suspicious. He knew Rep had some thing against all womankind, not just on a I'm gay level, but he couldn't see that being a curse word.
No.

Rep sighed and slumped back against his pillows, exhausted even by such a small twinge. "If you work here, see if you can get my ******** painkillers upped." He slid his eyes closed for a moment or two. Pain was normally something he savoured, but right now he had no patience for it, right now it was just a reminder of how feeble his body actually was. "And don't tell them I asked either. I'm not a ******** p***y. It just might be ******** easier to zone out if I'm doped up."
He almost skirted the question of women before deciding to however lightly address it. "Women ******** suck. Bitches, every single one of them, only cocky when they have the odds tipped ******** astronomically in their favour." He gave Melvin a thoughtful look and considered warning him that his division was a nest of snakes before figuring, no, he already had to know, and if he didn't, probably wouldn't believe him anyway.
"But you are probably one of those idiots who wants one to tell him what to do." It was about the first inclination he'd given that despite the insults, he didn't actually think Melvin was gay.

"You think I'm a guy who wants to go Yes dear to someone? I'm not that type of guy." He clarified, before letting that be. He was in no way someone who liked to be commanded. His life was control, to have control, and to have things to his specifications. Letting someone else run the show let things get messy, and he didn't like having his things someone else's way when it came to quick intimacy. As for a relationship, well, he threw that idea out of his mind long ago. There was too much he wanted that it was unrealistic to even try again.
"I can't up your drugs. Maybe if you cause enough of a ruckus later, they will want to calm you down by upping your dosage to keep you behaved. I think even demanding it over and over will make them give you some just to shut you up. You could try, but I can't just go pushing buttons. I didn't take that sort of biology in school, and unless you want to suffer a heart attack, I would ask me to do anything with these machines." He pointed out. Melvin worked in labs, not in emergency rooms.
"So...about women."

Sasha rarely took up duties in the infirmary if she could help it. She'd worked hard to make herself irreplaceable in the labs, instead. Today was different. Today she wanted to gloat, to see how much damage she'd actually done to Rep - she wanted to see his eyes flutter open only to land on her and she wanted him to watch her smile as she loomed next to his prone form.
After checking in with another Life hunter, Sasha briskly made her way to Rep's designated infirmary room. Anticipation tickled up her spine, her breathing quickening just slightly.
And then she heard a slightly familiar voice, and her eyes narrowed.
"So...about women."
Pursing her lips, Sasha's heels snapped against the tiled floor as she moved further into his room. Blue eyes graced Melvin with an aloof, cool look - and then her eyes were on Rep, molten and heated.
"Rep doesn't like talking about women. In fact," she skirted the foot of the bed, trailing a hand along the blankets, "I don't think he likes women at all."
She smiled, a toothy, catlike thing.
"How are you feeling?"

"You look like the kind of guy to be completely whipped by some crazy girlfriend." Rep offered, in his experience, if you weren't a nasty and vicious guy, women like his mother, like the savvy women in the clubs would chew you up and spit you out.
Rep opened his mouth to say more, to protest that right about now he wouldn't half mind him ******** with the IV as long as it knocked him out, but the words never happened. Instead it was like ice slithered into his veins and took him over. Everything in him told him to be proud, look strong, show her he wasn't afraid of her. But it was ******** hard to meet someone on the level when you were utterly vulnerable before them. He had never hated the ******** gowns so much in his entire life, aware of the cool breeze behind him as he made himself sit up, just enough to regain his posture. There was pain, excruciating pain, but rather than recoil from it as earlier he used it as fuel, he couldn't afford to bask in the cloudy painkillers, he needed to be razor sharp with Sasha in the room.
"You are right. I don't. I know them too ******** well." he still had to be careful to keep his words slow, patient, his breathing shallow. ******** these ******** ribs, ******** these injuries.
He wanted to recoil from her hand on his sheets, revulsion twisting in his gut. But he couldn't, if he tried to move his lower half there would be one hundred percent too much pain to manage. His own grin was toothy and manic, a sharp contrast to his tone as he flippantly stated.
"How am I feeling? Oh not bad. I've been a lot worse. They say I should be out in a few days at the most." Lie. Lie because he wouldn't give her the ******** satisfaction.
