 Morning flickered into the den in rays of sparkling light, warming the lioness's tanned fur. Her eyes fluttered open slowly, and a smile crossed her maw. It was a new day; a new day, with her new cubs. Illuae slowly got to her paws and then dipped into a luxurious sketch, feeling every muscle tighten and relax along her small body. She then turned her attention to her slumbering mate and the cubs, looking warmly over her sleeping brood. Ever since giving birth, Illuae had felt a new sense of pride. She had always fought for attention, being the runt of a large litter to a King and Queen; thus, she had never really gotten much family time, however desperately she tried. Now she had a new purpose in life, and it was not just to be Lady Illuae. It was to be Mother. The one who got all the attention, all the love - but moreover, the one to give attention, the one to love more.As she reflected, a massive yawn broke across her maw and Illuae let out a long "aww" sound under her breath. Aanabi, like his mother, was alert at a young age, and an early riser: a trait of royal blood. He perked his ears at his mother's yawn, falling out of a deep slumber, and jumped clumsily to his paws with a yelp. Illuae steadied the boy, giving him an affectionate lick on the head that made Aanabi's hair stand up comically. She wrapped a large paw around the little boy. He was little, she thought with concern. She had held her own being the runt of her litter. Would her young, small son do the same? "Shush, child," she whispered, "You'll wake the others!"

Atahk kicked her paws a little in her sleep, and was roused by the sounds of her kin around her. She yawned wide and looked toward the sounds with bleary eyes, half upside-down, half backward. A small mewl crept from her chest as she recognized her mother and her smallest sibling to be the ones making noise, everyone else was sleeping.
"Mama." She called softly, curling into a tiny ball and then stretching her legs out to the side, accidentally pushing against one of her sisters. Atahk stood slowly, arching her back and clambered over her other brother to get to mother and Aanabi.
The tiny lioness nuzzled her smaller brother affectionately and sat next to him, leaning her forehead against Illuae's foreleg. She crooned softly and another big yawn grasped her, her tiny muscles tensing. Atahk shook slightly and her fur bristled as the yawn passed.

Aanabi nuzzled Atahk back, a soft affectionate purr rumbling in his throat. He was a little wheezy in the morning, and coughed once, tumbling forward slightly before lazily sitting upright again on his plump little bum.
"Good morning, dear" Illuae greeted Atahk, giving her a loving lick over the head as she had done to Aanabi.
She nuzzled both cubs, paying close attention to setting Aanabi upright again. He was a little dizzy from his cough and tumbled over, but instead of crying out, he giggled.

Atahk showed concern for her brother when he coughed like that. She knew it was because he was little because she had asked mother, and as his big sister, she worried about him. What if he fell and nobody could help him? Well, Atahk would make sure that didn't happen- she cuddled closer to him after receiving her mother's attention.
"Aanabi, are you okay now?" She inquired of him, nudging with urgency at his chin. Her deep red eyes gazed up at Illuae. "Mama could we go outside?" the tiny lioness grinned and then turned back to Aanabi and whispered to him:
"Ask mama to go out too, come on! We can play on the grass!" With a little giggle, she licked her brothers' cheek as a cover for the whispering.
