Zenobia had been furious when a scoundrel of a wild dog dared to steal her jewelry. Over the week and a half she'd been tracking him that rage had turned into a smoldering plains fire. He was a wily dog full of tricks. She was determined to get her items back or die trying. That drive was what kept her going through the hardest of it. Cold nights, hot days, storms, winds, and a cold trail. Zeno was not a lioness to be put off when she wanted something. And she wanted this dog’s hide and her jewelry back.

Her head lifted and bright red eyes flashed as she scanned the plains. The trail was warm. She was finally closing in. Her lips curled back in a silent snarl. She wouldn’t give herself away so soon by making noise. It would just mean another long tedious hunt for him. The pale lioness crept through the grasses.

OMG, I LOVE that you posted her without her edits. xD

Tim huffed. Even after getting help from the passing stranger Baatar, he had still lost the thief. It was more than infuriating. What would Bruus say? What would his brother say? He had lost this 'Hanja' twice now. Either he had seriously underestimated the dog or he was really out of practice. Neither scenario was a good one.
The lion growled, mouth parted slightly as he scented the air. The dog had to be close. The trail had been faint for the past few days now, tinged with fear and frustration. The same lion scent had been mixed in as well. The facts seemed to indicate that someone else was also chasing the thief. Perhaps Hanja had stolen something else. The canine did seem to have a problem with robbing people.
Tim slunk through the grass, creeping low to the ground. He could hear something moving close by, but the wind was against him. It could be the thief he had been tracking for so long, or it could be another civilian. There would be only one way to find out. He leapt out in front of the other creature, claws out in case it was the thief. But a white lioness stood in place of the brown-coloured wild dog. Tim straightened up and backed away immediately, so as to avoid making himself look threatening. "My apologies, ma'am. I thought you were someone else." He looked at the stranger, mouth twisting into a frown. Her face was tight and tense, her eyes flashing with anger. This was a lioness on a mission. Tim surveyed her entire body, noticing patches of her fur that were permanently flattened down, forming the shape of rings around some of her limbs. Jewelry? "Is everything alright, ma'am? You seem to be a bit flustered," The male ventured, eyes narrowing slightly in contemplation.

User ImageHanja took a moment to catch his breath. He hadn't expected the female to chase him to the ends of the savannah and back! Clearly she was messed up in the head. The dog let a dirty back tumble to the ground from his mouth, its content jingling slightly as it made contact with the ground. He had found the sack just before realizing the female had been following him. It was much easier to carry her stolen jewelry like this.
He had to find a hiding place some time soon. Or at least someone to help get these felines off of his back. Hanja was sure he had an associate somewhere around here who owed him a favour. It was just a matter of finding that person and gaining enough distance away from the lioness for long enough to make a deal. Or something like that.
He was so tired. This was the longest her had ever been pursued, minus that confounded Red Robin who seemed to have some form of attachment to him. At least he had lost that overgrown fur-ball two weeks ago. What was it with lions that made them refuse to give up? "Stubborn kittens," Hanja spat, licking his dry lips. He would have to find some water pretty soon.

=D Lol, it only seemed appropiate.

Zeno haven't gotten more than a couple bodylengths down the dog's trail when a new threat pounced out at her. She turned a black and red lion; her ears laid back, fur on her back, and a growl in her throat. If he thought he could just come and bowel her over he'd get another thing coming. Her claws dug into the dirt before he backed off. The female watched him warily as he apologized. At least she hadn't had to woop his a**. She was saving that for the wild dog.

"Next time check before you leap. You almost got a face full of my claws." She gave him a quick appraisal as he studied her. Zenobia gave a low growl at him so as not to warn her target. "I. Am not flustered. I am pissed off. Now go on somewhere else. I don't need you scarying him away." The last thing she needed was a loud lion making the prey scarce.

Tim's ear perked up. Scarying him away? It appeared like his theory was right. She was definitely chasing someone, and the male would bet that she was chasing Hanja. He warned himself not to get too hopeful, however. The savannah was crawling with criminals. Either way, Tim would catching someone today. "Again, my apologies. But I could not risk being seen." He dipped his head, wary of the female's claws and temper. His brother had always been right; the Gods had no fury like a woman scorned. Or in this case, stolen from. "You see, I've been tracking a thief for the past few days." He made a show of sheathing his claws to try to calm the female's anger. "Did the male you're chasing after happen to take something from you?" Tim asked.

-----------------------------------------------

The dog whipped around at the faint sound of voices. It was barely more than a whisper, but Hanja wasn't taking any chances. If it really was the female, and she had found help, Hanja was screwed. The thief began doubling back on his tracks. It would confuse his pursuers. If he could find some elephant or rhino dung to roll in, it would be even better. As much as Hnaja despised getting that dirty, anything was better than being flayed by a lion.

She humphed, quietly, at him. "Well I've seen you so obviously it didn't work." Zeno calmed, and reminded herself that this wasn't the male who stole her jewlery. She gave a hiss, "this dirtclod offered to clean my jewlery then ran off with it. It's been almost two weeks." She bit off the ends of her words in anger. Some of it at him, some at herself. Why had it taken her so long?

"Who are you chasing?" She eyed him. He did look big and strong.

Tim resisted the urge to roll his eyes. He felt like he was being goaded by a female version of Bruus, his old mentor. But he had a feeling that this case matched Hanja' MO, and if this female agreed to help catch the thief, Tim could finally end this ridiculous chase he had been on since what felt like forever. "I'm chasing who I feel may be the same criminal who stole your jewelry." Tim explained, taking a moment to sit down. His back was straight, but it was posture rather than tension. "His name is Hanja, a brown wild dog. Golden fur along neck and white markings. He's a conman and a thief. He often steal jewelry and other trinkets either with force or by tricking them." The male snorted in disgust. 'He's already left a leopardess to drown and injured some cubs. Hanja is dangerous, and I'm trying to bring him to justice."

The Captain Britain
Do you want them to catch Hanja or get him long enough to get her jewlery before he slips away again?

"Aye that sounds like him." Zenobia ground her teeth in frusteration. How well already that she knew what he was. Her head did come up as she heard his other crimes. He did what!? "Just wait until I get my claws on him. You won't have any trouble with him after that." She would beat that dog within an inch of his life then turn him over to this lion to do whatever he wanted.

"I want my jewlery back. Promise me that and I'll help you. If you don't, then I'll continue to hunt him on my own." Her red eyes bore into the male. She had come this far. Zeno wasn't about to let some male up and tell her she couldn't. "We'll do better working together I think. Since you've been chasing him how long?"

I'd like for him to actually be caught this time. Hanja already has tons of RPs where he slips away. xD

Tim held back a sigh of relief. He hadn't been sure that this female would cooperate or not. "Longer than I care to admit, ma'am." If he didn't catch Hanja today, then Tim was going to have to seriously consider what direction his career was going in. "You'll get your jewelry back. It wouldn't be right of me to take what's yours. Your help will be greatly appreciated." The lion scowled, looking off in the distance. They needed to get moving, or else Hanja would slip from their claws. "We should start. With any luck, he's working on covering his tracks, which will slow him down." Tim explained, opening his mouth to scent the air.

-----------

The wind was blowing in his favour. It was both good and bad news. Good because it would be harder for his pursuers to track him down. Bad because the wind was bringing Hanja not only the scent of the female he had stolen from, but also of the Red Robin. Curses. If they had teamed up, he was in trouble. He had to get of this area and fast!
Satisfied with the doubling-back, Hanja turned to make off in a new direction. His back paw slipped off the top of a ledge, sending him tumbling down to the bottom with a yelp. Hanja felt his head smack against a rock, sending his mind reeling. The dog propped himself up on his front paws, unsteady and woozy.

Sounds good. Poor boy.

No fuss. No moaning that he couldn't let her. Zeno warmed up to him a bit and gave a tight smile. "Same here. Two weeks is far too long to be gone from my cubs." She gave a pleased nod when he promised her jewlery back. This lion was just. Then it came down to business. She knew from experience that whenever she got close the dog tended to put more effort into hiding his tracks. Surely would be the case now. Their scent was undoubtedly going straight to him.

Zenobia lifted her head to scent as well though it would do no good. They had his trail before them and she was going to follow it. Her ears swiveled as a sharp sound sounded. "Did you hear that? C'mon lets go." Her voice was low and urgent. Quickly the female set out toward the sound. This may be their once chance to catch him.

Cubs? This female had cubs? And she had left them to pursue Hanja? There was no way he could let her risk her safety further, especially if she had cubs waiting for her safe return. But before the male could open his mouth to insist that the female wait somewhere safe, a sharp sound cut through the air. Tim's ear snapped forward. A yelp of some kind. It could be Hanja, or it could be an innocent passerby, now injured and needing help. Either way, he needed to investigate. The female set off in an instant, leaving Tim to rush after her. There was no telling her to to stay behind now.
He kept low to the ground, trying to stay under the cover of the tall grasses. If it was Hanja, they would need to keep hidden and silent. Tim double checked the ground for twigs or branches that would give their approach away and noticed marks in the dirt. "Tracks!" He whispered to the female. "Canine, and very fresh." They were leading to dried river bed up ahead. Tim gestured for the female to follow him as he followed the prints to the ledge. "He must be close." The male murmured, scanning the empty river bed below for any signs that would give away the dog's location.

-----------

Hanja sucked in a breath, head still spinning slightly. Even in lowered tones, Hanja recognized that voice. The Red Robin was right above him! The lion must have been talking to the female Hanja had stolen from. The dog pushed himself up in an alcove in the muddy wall, brown fur doing well to camouflage him. In the shadows of the ledge, Hanja was confident they would look right past his hiding spot. Once they did, the dog could make a final break for it with the jewelry.
The jewelry! Hanja cursed under his breath. The bag was lying right next to the rock he had hit his head on, a bit of the trinkets peeking out of the top. The sun glistened against the silver metal, twinkling amongst the pebbles.

I am sorry for the wait! Muse was being fickle. >.<
Feel free to have him catch Hanja in your next post.

The chase was at a tantalizing end. If only they could catch this dog. "Good," she mumbled baring her canines. Zenobia stalked along as though she were hunting shy gazelle. They were so close; she was not going to loose him again. She crouched at the edge with her red eyes raking the river bed below. He wasn't running visably away, like she might have thought, so that meant he'd gone into hiding.

"He's down there." She whispered, never taking her eyes from the dry dirt. Then almost as on que a sparkle caught her eyes. There in the dirt was her jewlery just peaking out of the bag. "Look look there. Can you see my jewlery? I bet he's not far from that. Stay here, and I'll go down to get it. Hopefully that'll flush him out for you." With that, Zeno slid down the slope heading right for her long lost jewlery.

No problem! I know how it is.
So I guess one more closing post from each of us, and that should do it?

Tim didn't quite approve of a civilian going down so close to the thief, but the female slid down before he could say anything. Following her lead, the male crept silently along the top of the ridge, sharp blue eyes waiting for Hanja to start running. This was the closest Tim had gotten in a while. He couldn't let the criminal get away now.
His muscles tensed, claws digging into the dirt as he prepared to jump. The female drew closer to the bag of jewelry, and Tim saw a flash of brown. Without hesitating, the lion leaped, landing on top of the criminal.

--------------

Hanja cursed as the sound of pawsteps drew near to his hiding spot. The jewelry had been spotted. The wind changed direction, bringing the scent of a female to his nose. The lioness had found him out! Hanja had to make a break for it, or he was sure the consequences wouldn't be pleasant. He was fast. He had outrun her before, and he could out run her again. The dog just had to run in the other direction. Hanja bolted, peeling out of his hiding spot and dashing away from the lioness. But before he could get very far, the dog felt a heavy weight knock him to the ground. Someone had just landed on his back! He should have known someone else would be waiting.

In a flurry of teeth and claws, the two scuffled on the ground. After a few seconds or intense fighting, Tim pinned Hanja to the dirt, teeth digging into the canine's scruff. "Well, well, long time no see, furball." Hanja grunted, having recognized the lion. "Quiet," Tim growled in response, claws drawing small droplets of blood where the dug into the dog' skin.

Zenobia, happy for the first time in weeks, scooped up her jewelry. Her chase was finally over. Out of the corner of her eye she spotted a flurry of movement, brown and red. It didn't sound like their bandit was getting away this time. The lioness quickly slipped on the jewelry then approached the pinned dog. Her fangs were bared and a low growl came from her throat.

"I should mangle you then bring you back for my cubs to finish off dog. However, it seems someone has other plans for you. Thank you for your assistance in retreaving my stuff. I leave this.... mutt," she spat out, "in your paws. See that he gets everything he deserves." She licked her muzzle then turned and walked back the way they had been coming, now driven to return to her cubs as quickly as possible.

OOC: Whoops. Totally forgot to finish this off.

Tim nodded to the lioness. He wouldn't have caught Hanja without her help. Though he usually worked alone, his brother had taught him that there wasn't any shame in needing assistance every once in a while. "Thank you for your help. I'll make sure this dog never hurts anyone else," His blue eyes glared down at the criminal, cold stare lacking any hint of mercy, "ever again." The lion punctuated his statement with a snarl, flicking his gaze back up to the lioness as she took her leave.

Beneath him, Hanja resisted to the urge to whimper, but his tail was stuck firmly between his legs despite himself. This was it. His number was up. His time had come. All the things he had never been able to do, all the regrets he had, oh woe was he! Hanja let out a painful yelp as he was pulled to his paws and nudged forward. He didn't know where the lion was taking him, but he was sure that it wouldn't be good.
