DEATHSWEEPER

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.

General Information
The large stone cavern with the tiled floor and large yellow smiley face is likely familiar to at least several trainees, and may even feature in a few nightmares from time to time. Welcome to Deathsweeper, the training course that may only be attempted via c-type golem, and often acts as a testing ground for the Life Division's more painful creations. Stealth and detecting imminent danger are vital for Death Hunters and anyone who has to spend extended amounts of time near Caelius. The Deathsweeper chamber is full of hidden traps that only the finest of survival instincts can survive unscathed.

If you fail: you get to once again relive the sensation of dying. Painfully and sometimes quite strangely.

If you win: you have survived stepping 5 tiles into the room. Anything further is purely for peen and bragging rights.

    Mechanics
  • roll 1 d10
  • check for hp loss and death
  • decide whether or not to use your bonuses
  • if you survive, repeat.
  • roll list: the traps are ICly constantly changing, so feel free to get creative as to what exactly those traps are!
  • -50% HP is off your full HP, so if you hit -50% twice, then you are 100% KO'd

    01. horrible death
    02. - 50% HP
    03. live
    04. live
    05. - 50% HP
    06. - 50% HP
    07. horrible death
    08. - 50% HP
    09. live
    10. horrible death

    Bonus Mechanics
  • This bonus is consumable.
  • All participants get a flag, this flag will allow your character to notice something about the area they're stepping into. OOCly this means you can adjust your rolled number, up or down, by one point. Instinctive moves are used in the same manner as flags. These are stackable, so if you have 1 flag + 1 instinctive move, you can use them up in order to adjust your roll by two.

(If you roll a 1, you may not move your number down to 0, -1, or 10. And 10 cannot be adjusted to 1 or 11.)

  • Trainees: 1 flag
  • Death Trainees: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Hunters: 1 flag + 1 instinctive move
  • Death Hunters: 1 flag + 2 instinctive moves

Melvin sent a text to Rep stating he was heading over to the Death course and made his way to the portal, waiting for a moment until he saw the Sun head down the hall. Now assembled, the pair headed through the portal to another room, complete with pods and machinery giving out readouts and complete with window overlooking a room below. Someone was just downstairs cleaning the area of parts before the clear was given.

"Well, let's see if we can't beat this course too." Melvin was doing good getting clearance and liked that he was doing something with his down time. Moving to a pod, he went to inspect if it was clean or not.

"Aw damnit. Didn't think anyone'd be here." Otto grouched as he walked in. His brows raised them=n lowered just as quick upon seeing who was there. Rep and Melvin.

"Oh fun. The dweeb and the Scot. Goody." The blonde rolled his icy blue eyes and moved toward a pod. "Well, whatevs."

"You'll love it." was Rep's decidedly snarky reply to Melvin's comment. He tended to get more snappish when he was tense or on edge.

And he was very tense indeed. Rep had arrived that day with the heavy weight of dread in his gut. Deathsweeper really wasn't his greatest flash of inspiration ever when ways to spend a day. There was any number of things he could be doing instead that weren't dying repeatedly, many of them involving a lot more hot chocolate and less excruciating agony. He spent the entire walk to the training area full of regret at agreeing to go along with this whole damn thing.

And even better, as they arrived it seem that Otto was already there. Why the hell would anyone be here voluntarily he thought to himself. It cinched it, Deaths were all completely ******** weird.

"I have a ******** name." he bristled, always touchy even at the best of times, but particularly so when it came to where he hailed from. "I don't call you ******** yanks, return the favour."

Melvin frowned when he saw Otto show up. That punk kid, and even worse was that he gave Melvin lip when he was protecting him during that battle only days before. Then again, what did you expect from a kid?

Rep was the one who could get angry for both of them, and Melvin secretly hoped he'd send the teen to the infirmary again. "Seems like someone didn't get their nap before coming here." To which Melvin was referring to the girls that asked Otto before if he had rested before going on the mission.

Finding the cleanest pod and wiping it down, he settled himself in and pressed the controls to have it close down. "Leave him, Rep. I'm sure you'll pass before him." Aka, shut up and get in a pod.

Melvin opened his eyes behind thicker lenses than his goggles and feeling heavy, stifled, and closed in. Raising his hands, he noticed gloves before the sound of his own muffled, heavy breathing. This....felt familiar. Too familiar, and he was left deeply unsettled before they even started.

He'd been in a place like this before. Fought like this before.

Iota.

He looked around at the tiles before him and at the other golems that appeared. "This is weird."

He didn't want to dwell on this too long, and made a move. The result was the tile beneath him turned bright red and instantly set him on fire in a massive burst of light.

"s**t!" After a bit of flailing, the fire extinguished leaving a dark, fried, smoking golem. Well, his luck was proving consistent this training too.

Otto was a d**k. Even more so when he had no weapon to keep his mental state relatively even. He'd been playing nice because Tenya had been around. Without her he felt a lot more irritable and prone to poking people's buttons.

The southern boy tried to ignore the commentary from Melvin, mostly because he was right. otto didn't get his nap in.

He'd done the Deathsweeper coarse once before. Back then he'd had Tenya to keep him company despite the horrifying flashbacks it brought out. This time around, he only had the peanut gallery and himself.

He took a step onto the first tile, one he hoped by process of elimination was safe.

So far so good.

Rep wasn't entirely sure why he tolerated insubordination from Melvin to the degree he did. Anyone else telling him to leave someone would be promptly told to go ******** themselves, or take a long walk off a short pier. But with Melvin that would probably result in a discussion about where the nearest pier was on the island or some other pedantic argument about minutiae. It wasn't actually worth it.

So he did as he was told and went over to the pods, sighing as he slumped into it. Class C golems tended to mean one specific thing for him, and he'd actually forgotten about it.

He sighed as much as it was possible with a gas mask on as his golem, sure enough was like the one he'd used in the trials. Complete with female figure.

Just a little bit distracted by the fact he had a female golem again. He jumped just a little too heavily on the pressure sensitive plate and got the fun start to his day that was about twenty razor sharp spikes right through him.

Flag Used - 9

Melvin watched as one of the golems, he couldn't tell who, was torn to bits by a lot of razors that would make the puppet from Saw proud. Frowning, he looked over at the tiles around him and moved to the next only to feel the metaphorical hairs at the back of his neck raise.

Jumping back to a neighboring tile, he watched as the tile from before dropped into what seemed to be a pool of acid. He thought of Saliva briefly, but it wasn't long.

Otto watched with morbid fascination as one of the golems was instantly killed. Yowch. Welp! Better them than him!

Sucker, he thought to himself. He'd expected a reply from an absent dropbear, but it never came.

Another mental sigh and Otto moved to another tile. He was suddenly impaled by a flurry of ninja stars, all impaling his chest.

"OW ******** SUNNUVA FU----"

It wasn't really being Rep's day, all things considered. Yet again he was hit with the challenge in balance that was being considerably top heavy and beset with nam like trial flashbacks, along with various flashbacks to previous runs. It had taken a bit even to get himself back into the golem, still sure he could feel the cold metal buried in his spine where it had been only moments before.

No. He'd be fine. Death in this was nothing, he couldn't let it get the best of his mind. He wasn't really a woman. He was Rep and he could command this ******** game.

He stretched. Right. This would be easy.

The tile exploded and took him with it.

Melvin watched as a tile exploded and wondered who was getting blown apart. Rep or Otto. Melvin hoped it was Otto, and took a step as he glanced at a arm from the blown golem roll by.

That split second of not paying attention and before Melvin knew it, a anvil was sent down and crushed his body. The pain was quick but excruciating, and he was left gasping back in his pod at the sensation.

Ah, another sucker bit the dust.

Otto smirked lightly behind his mask, and continued forward. A sound of a wire tripping far away caught his ears, and on instinct, leapt from the next til to one further back. Sure enough, a flurry of arrows flung by the spot he'd just been in.

Third time's the charm Rep tried so hard to tell himself as he rigged up another golem, his stomach still twisted up in knots as his brain insisted no, no really it had just been airborne over most of the training area.

"Fuuck I'm going to have some seriously ******** up dreams again." he sighed as once again he donned another body he didn't recognise. Someone was doing pretty ******** good, almost at the end of the run.

b*****d.

This time the flavour of destruction was acid. Acid eating through him till he was dead. It wasn't nice.

A new golem entered the grounds, and Melvin was feeling sick to his stomach and shaky. One death hadn't done well for the unseasoned trainee, and he slowly walked onto the tiles only to set off one and have a ton of bricks fall on his head.

While his comrades were both having very off days, Otto seemed to be Leo-strutting his way to success. The teenager hopped skipped and jumped past another trap he'd almost triggered, watching over his shoulder as giant man eating squid tried grasping at air from beneath the abandoned tile.
