PRINCESS ISLAND

General Information
Maintaining a superior defense is the pride of the Moon Division, defending even at the expense of attacking. However, this can be hard, especially for trainees who just got new magic weapons full of glowing and powers. Thus the Princess Island. At the center of the island sits a princess who will do absolutely nothing to protect herself, and it's up to you to build defenses that will withstand shadowling attacks so she she doesn't die in a horribly realistic manner.

There's four main paths for shadowling's to travel through, and you have 3 types of building materials to create your defenses from: straw bales, wood, and bricks. The sturdier the material, the sturdier the barrier, but the fewer you can build in the allotted time. After a set amount of time, the princess will crush a pumpkin pill, attracting varying amounts of lurking shadowlings. You get to watch helplessly from the observation station, without getting to attack yourself.

These creature are extremely weak and ill formed, coming up against a solid defense they will disperse, but in turn they also weaken said defense. When a defense goes down, they go right to the princess and attack her. Should she survive the wave, you get to go back down, rebuild, and do it again.

If you fail: the princess has died, horribly, and you've wasted a lot of time on this only to look fairly incapable. All things considered? Most pleasant course to fail.

If you win: peen points and bragging rights go to those with the healthiest princess and lasted through the most attack waves.
If you choose to go beyond 5 rounds, switch the enemy dice roll to 4 d20s.

    Mechanics
  • Your princess has 20 hp
  • First, roll the strength of you defense, using the dice for whichever building type you choose.

    Brick: 4 d12
    Wood: 8 d6
    Hay bales: 12 d4

The order of the die determine the HP for each barrier location. For example, with bricks, rolling 5/6/8/1, would mean that path 1 has 5 HP, path 2 has 6 HP and so on. With a wood roll of 3/3/3/1/2/5/5/2, the first 2 dice would equal the amount of the first path. Brick would be the least math-y of the building materials (you lazy asses.)
  • Roll 4 d12 for the attacking forces. Once again the order of the dice correspond with the path being affected. Then do the math to determine the status of your defenses and princess.
    Example:
    My defenses are 5/6/8/10
    The attackers are 3/7/3/8

    The result defenses are 2/-1/5/2
Negative numbers are taken off the princesses HP, leaving her at 19 HP.
  • Go back and rebuild your defenses in the same manner as before, you'll be building on top of old defenses so you add the new defense HP to the remaining defense HP. Negative numbers = 0 HP for the defense, not negative HP.
  • Minimum rounds to complete the course is 3

    Bonus Mechanics
  • Their defense expertise allows them to build slightly sturdier barriers. This applies to all paths that start at 0 hp. They do not stack. So if you are re-building on a barrier that lasted from an existing round, this bonus does not apply, as it is already still in effect.

  • Trainees: 0 hp bonus
  • Moon Trainees: +1 hp bonus to each path
  • Hunters: +1 hp to each path
  • Moon Hunters: + 2 hp to each path

Melvin had free time and glorious silence on his mind. No voices. No extra duties that involved weapons. He was alive. He was still awaiting for others to resolve some issues regarding the tablet in his room, and so he was left with a shorter list of responsibilities. It left him more time to work on his own minipets, but he still wanted to train. No need to waste time after all. Since everyone was in down spirits, he stayed out of the way by going to the gym that Cass and Rin showed him, and looked up the training grounds that didn't require that he have a weapon.

He found one.

While "Princess Island" didn't bring about any great ideas, it was a training course as much as Jenga had been, and he set out to the portal to get some work done. As he did, be passed a wandering Rep who looked....odd. A bit out of it at least. After some simple, passing, chit-chat, he mentioned he was heading over to train. Before he knew it, the pair of them were exiting the portal on the Princess Isle and looking about.

Melvin noticed a tower to the right and then a path heading out in front of them. "So, you want to go first or you want me to?"

Rep had been at a complete loss with what to do with himself. Boredom was a hundred times worse when there was no one in your head to complain at about how excruciatingly bored you were. Instead when Melvin had passed by Rep had simply been loitering. There was no point in going to the gym, no point in doing most things, even swimming in the sea would mean leaving Tracey's tablet behind. Said tablet was currently nestled in the backpack Allan had given him while he was cuffed, He refused to put the tablet down at all.

"Eh. I could go first. I have like, experience building walls man. I had to do it in a samurai costume once and almost ******** died. I didn't have Tracey then either."

He pointed up at the observation station. "You just wait up there and I'll ace this ******** thing, right?"

So this was what moons did with their time, Rep thought to himself as he headed over to one of the paths around the island. He'd read the specifications of this training course a few times but had never actually gotten round to doing it. The ******** princess golems didn't sound appealing at all in any capacity, and as he reached the middle of the island, he realised why he hadn't bothered.

"Oh aye it had to be ******** you." he snarled at the princess, jealousy utterly boiling in him. The golem was Matt, the guy from the tent Harrison had been being all buddy buddy with, the one with all the band-aids. He hoped this ******** golem had plenty of them handy.

He shoved past them to head over to where the building materials were stored, once again feeling strangely lonely as he reached out for that mental presence to ask what Tracey thought was the best thing to choose and came back with nothing. It was like a twist of some unseen dagger beneath his ribs. No. Focus, he had to focus, or at least focus on doing this shittily and letting his princess die miserably. It might be fun to see Matt be torn to bits, even if it did make him look useless to Melvin.

The walls he built were quick and sloppy for the most part, bar one that he actually got really into the rhythm of doing, his thoughts somewhere else as he did. Well he might as well at least look like he was trying, he hazarded.

Melvin took a moment to look at Rep, imaging him in a samurai outfit, hair tied back in a ponytail and chopsticks, cutting down shadows while protecting a great wall before being overwhelmed. It had the air of a good action movie, if not having a horrible script, but it was far too comical to consider it might have happened in real life.

Keeping himself from patting Rep's shoulder, he just offered a wave of goodbye for now. "Alright, see you when you're done to switch." He took the steps to the tower and went up the stairs inside to be up in a sparsely furnished room. It reminded him of the submarine pod with it's large window and simple chairs. However, here he had a view of a pink figure in the distance and paths leading up to the center. Rep stood out like a red, sore thumb.

"At least this doesn't have darts." He said to himself, and paused. Talking to himself - it was a bad habit he had gotten and hadn't notice he picked up until now. Hmm. That was troubling.

Rep arrived back to the observation station just in time for the princess to call the shadowlings to them, he wandered over to look pensively out of the window.

"My princess is a ******** crap one." he snarled. "A guy I don't even ******** like. I hope it gets ******** destroyed."

Some of the walls appeared to hold, others were much less fortunate, and he couldn't help but smirk as his princess found themself quite a bit more frayed than they had been beforehand. He waved off the pretty shoddy workmanship. "I meant that, of course."

There was an odd moment where he expected Tracey to mentally roll his eyes, but was met with nothing at all.

Rep hadn't done too bad, and Melvin watched to see if he could do any improvements or things better than Rep had done, but it seemed rather up to chance on what sides the shadowlings decided to attack from with the most force. The princess was barely distinguishable, but certainly someone Melvin had not met personally. Certainly not in a dress either, but if he didn't already know it was a golem, he would have been concerned about putting someone in danger, let alone someone who clearly had mental problems to dress up as a woman.

As Rep returned, he seemed more pissed than anything, but not for the damage to his walls. "Well, I guess win or fail, you'll be getting something out of it." Though the purpose was to win.

Stepping down the path on the other side, he followed the paths to the right side of the island to another station where another pink figure was waving at him with slender, white gloves. Holding up his hand to block the light, he made out someone that he did recognize.

"Oh crap!"

Jordan was smiling to him, clutching his hands together as he picked up his dress to take a few steps to meet him (revealing glass heels - which was a little much especially with the pink nail polish). Not far from the point he had to stay, but enough. Melvin already felt himself turning a bit green when he saw him, but was even more aware of a certain audience member in the stands. Rep had already sent a guy to the infirmary for just assuming a friendly relationship was a treat to boyfriend and Melvin's only assurance was that Rep didn't have an axe. He did, however, have enough muscle to punch Melvin like a nail into the ground.

"I was waiting for you, darling." Jordan said as if left in the wilds for years awaiting his return. "I've been all alone with no animals or dwarves to keep me company!" She - I mean HE wailed, touching Melvin's arm and sighing as if under the sun too long and almost fainting.

Melvin shook him off, rubbing his arm as if it was fire, before glaring at Jordan. "Yeah, sorry I took so long. How about you just sit over there while I...make some walls."

Jordan paused a moment before smiling. "Oh yes! We must make a home. A castle - OH! A tower! Just like that one." To which he pointed to the observation tower. Melvin dared not look up and see what might be glaring down at him.

"Yeah, a tower. Complete with a dragon." One that could protect Melvin.

"And a unicorn!" Jordan added, as if this was a household essential and then went to dust off a rock and sit.

Taking a breath, Melvin picked out some bricks and quickly slapped a few walls as quickly as he could. All the while, Jordan leaned and admired him, telling him how strong he was and how kind-hearted he was to be taking care of her.

"Yeah. That's great. I gotta get that ...uh, unicorn. Stay here." Melvin made a 'stay' gesture with his hands before heading back.

Melvin made sure Jordan didn't follow and then braced himself when he stepped into the observation room and shut the door. "Some...funny golems we get." He couldn't well say he wanted Jordan to die as much as Rep wanted his golem to die, though Melvin would be happy with a different replacement.

As he slowly moved warily to the window, he looked out to see his walls becoming completely destroyed and Jordan becoming overrun with shadowlings.

Melvin did not dare look over to Rep.

Rep watched out the observation station as Melvin got to work on his walls, flicking through the CCTV feeds as he headed down to where his princess would be. His finger froze, hovering above the button as he spotted the princess that the Life hunter had been allocated. Jordan. His eyes narrowed, instantly suspicious. He questioned the randomness of these golems and was suddenly suspect that he was the brunt of yet another Life trick. Melvin being life himself didn't instill massive confidence either.

As he returned to the observation room, Rep glared coldly. "Aye. Funny." he snarled.

He then he had the fun job of watching shadowlings rip one of his significant others - or at least a vague approximation of said significant other - to pieces.

It did nothing for his mood, clenching his hands into fists. "You better not have built walls that shitty on purpose." his tone was quiet and seethingly furious, anger always a good way to mask when something hurt or unsettled him. "Or I'll ******** leave you out there for the shadowlings next run."

He stormed out and slammed the door.

This time, he built the walls higher where they had been breached before. Princess not-Matt even came over to cheer him on as he worked. It took all his self control not to punch it in the face.

Stalking back into the observation station with an expression of utmost seriousness and irritation, Rep sat down to watch how his walls fared against the waves yet again. To his irritation, the routes previously not as heavily beset with attackers were the ones that now took the brunt of the assault. At the very least some of the walls he'd put more effort into now stood up to the challenge.

It was a mixed feeling though, part of him really wanted to see Matt princess torn to bits, you know, to show him for so much as speaking to Harrison.

Melvin didn't dare look over at Rep until he spoke, and when he did, he could feel the heat of a million suns (or maybe one very angry Sun) trying to melt him where he stood. Not wanting Melvin to think he was safe, he made it very clear that he wasn't happy.

"I didn't. I'm just....not good at making walls." He also didn't have anything against Jordan, but he felt that saying he wanted to protect Jordan would only make things MUCH worse.

As Rep went to fix his own fort, he returned without saying a word. Frowning, Melvin went down the path to his own fort, looking as a tattered Jordan princess laid there, looking beat up and dress torn. Considering how close to Jordan it looked, it was a bit unsettling - though Jordan in a dress was unsettling enough.

Grabbing some more brick, Melvin tried his best to fortify his walls, but ran out of time on the last wall. Giving one last glance to his battered Princess, he headed back to the observation tower.

Melvin returned, taking a spot before the glass to look down as his princess reluctantly summoned another wave. It wasn't pretty. The shadowlings found their weakness in the wall he hadn't had time to build up and overwelmed the golem, tearing it to pieces.

There was a moment of silence as Melvin watched. "I...didn't mean for that to happen if that's what you're thinking. It's just a golem." A golem that looked like the Sun's boyfriend who he was ready to beat anyone for harming or hitting on.

Melvin had to request another golem and waited back in the observation tower as he made the request to the techs to send a new one. He waited until the call came in that one was sent to the location from before, and Melvin headed out to start all over again. This was starting to fell like Jenga all over again.

Now not having anyone to talk to, either out or in the observation tower, he went back to see -

"Oh come on!" Melvin said as a fresh, perky Jordan princess was there to meet him, standing on the torn tower where it's precious princess was destroyed.

Not even hearing how excited the princess was or it's big plans on a happy ever after, Melvin set to work, picking wood this time in hopes it would make for a better wall. Not wanting to spend too long near this new Jordan, he rushed back to the tower. The less time around these princesses, the better.

Melvin came back to the observation tower, looking out as his perky princess set on summoning a wave, and saw that his choice in wood walls did not give him any advantage or any better luck. Jordan still got attacked, and he felt bad for it.

Then he felt a bit pissed. Why did he care if Rep was getting hurt over a fake golem. It actually should be a insult to the real Jordan that Rep cared about some replica. Rep just needed to be handled and defused. Even Melvin could handle that.

"It's only a golem. A fake. No point in getting riled up about a fake." He commented as the shadowlings tore at Jordan.

Rep looked on at the carnage as it unfolded before his eyes, and though he made a fairly valiant attempt to look simply furious, he couldn't help the flicker of pain at having to watch the imitation Jordan attacked and helpless in the face of the waves of shadowlings. It made his stomach twist, as if someone had dropped a heavy weight into it. He wanted to look away but he couldn't.

Blinking slowly, he gave Melvin a long slow look.

"Just a golem."

He looked back dismally. It didn't feel like just a golem.

And then he had to watch as Melvin's shoddy DIY skills almost got yet another golem ripped up the same way. It should have been easier the second time. It wasn't. This time the pained wince was indeed followed with anger as he turned to flat out glare at Melvin, bristling with a raw sort of fury.

"There's plenty ******** point getting riled up about a fake. Just a golem you say, but right about now? That's about how long he'd ******** last against those shadowlings, its about how long any of us would ******** last. It's not something I want to be thinking about."

He shook his head and waved a hand dismissively. Like Melvin would care about his stupid problems, the guy wasn't exactly mister sensitive he'd found, logical and clinical. "You know what, never ******** mind. Forget it. You wouldn't understand."

He had walls to build.

The door slammed as once again he headed back out to try and protect the golem of a guy he ******** hated. Maybe this was how moons learned to defend people like him.
