Absolute silence. Not to peep. Leon could only hear the rush of blood in his head, the steady thrum with the thump of his heartbeat along with it. Other than that, it was uncomfortably silent.
No late night arguments about the meal plan for tomorrow as the life hunter crawled into bed. No pestering over dessert. Nidhogg was merely mute on everything as he sat on the nightstand next to him. Leon took the time and care to prop the dragon up by his favorite bonsai tree. It was the one the boxer caught him nibbling at when he had his golem form. the plant recovered from that quite nicely.
Leon felt uncomfortable, it was odd to not have the dragon voice in his head, like something was missing as he rolled around from side to side. "dammit you stupid garbage disposal." he muttered heatedly into the room.
It was far too cold tonight, this autumn day.

Despite her utter exhaustion, Madison was unable to sleep. It was way, way too damn quiet in her room. Even throwing open the window didn't help at all. It was as if a deathly silence had fallen over the entire Island, though she knew deep down that it was just that none of the voices she could hear was the one she most wanted. "We're... we're really ********, aren't we?" she asked the insensate tablet resting on her pillow, the stone nearly covered in the now-inert gauze of the runic bandage she'd wrapped around it earlier. It hadn't seemed to help any. She'd cried for what felt like hours, for Bix and the girl she hadn't known, and for Kouki above all. But not for Caelius. Never for Caelius. Madison drew in a ragged breath and wrapped her bathrobe around herself, tucking Kouki's tablet into one pocket before heading for the door. The hallways were silent too, and as she clicked her door shut behind her she pondered her destination. Jordan... would be with his boys, she was sure, and she hadn't even formally met them yet. This was not the time. Robert, with Petra - same. Jerry was too broken to be support; Ennea, too young, and she hadn't gone on the mission. She couldn't handle being around someone... someone whole. Not right now. ... Where did that leave her? Alone. The thought made her throat close up, and she quickly walked down the hall until one nameplate caught her eye. Without letting herself pause to think, she knocked on the door. "Leon? Leon, it's Madison - are you in there? ********, I'm sorry-"

"Ok, maybe i should just count calories and use that to fall asleep." he muttered softly to himself and began to count little globules of light. "one calorie." "two calories." and took a deep breath, and exhale. "Three calories, but that's too many. DONE WITH THIS." he sighed loudly and sat up from his cot. "I bet you are hiving a good nap Nid." he childed softly to the tablet by his side. The tablet itself made no noise, no nothing. Just a piece of rock. the life hunted rolled his eyes and ruffled at his hair in a bored manner. The sharp knock on the door caught his attention as he jerked his head to the side and went to grab at the necklace on his wrist. It wasn't there. Oh right. Nid. Tablet. Damn. As son as that train of thought worked itself out, and heard who it was at the door he bolted up from the bedding. And realized that he was not dressed for company. at all. From the waist down. "Just A moment!" he called aloud and skidded over to the dresser, one of the few pieces of furniture to the room and pulled out a pair of boxers, it was better than nothing, it was also worse than nothing if he had the time to look at it from a guy's perspective. That was more than enough to be presentable as he stomped to the door and opened it up slightly, the lght from the hallway made the boxer squint and hold up an arm at the offending lightsource. "Madison? what brings you here?"

Madison blinked owlishly at Leon, then sighed. "Sorry, I just - it's too ******** quiet, you know?" She gestured at her bathrobe, which was hanging rather oddly given the weight of Kouki's tablet in one pocket. "And I guess I didn't have... anyone else. I mean. I guess if you go through a ******** crazy house with somebody..." Her voice trailed off. "Can I come in?"

The blinding light eventually began to grow less jarring as Leon found his sensitivity to light diminishing and properly looked at the mess that was Madison. It was obvious as the slouch in her robe what the mater was. "It is too damn quiet."he agreed solemnly, nodding glumly in return. he understood it far too well. A completely insane, corrupted haunted house can do that to you. Himself included. He blinked at her owlishly in return before clearing his throat in a awkward manner and flung the door oven with a thud. "Sure sure, take a seat." he insisted and pulled up a chair for the lady and tapped a bedside light on. "How are you holding up?"

"Thanks," she said, feeling a little awkward as she shuffled over the threshold, sitting down gingerly in the chair he offered. "I'm... ugh, I'm..." She let out an exasperated sigh. "Better than I was just... just after, but... not so good." One hand strayed to trace over the top of Kouki's tablet. "Lonely, I guess. Didn't really have anybody to turn to... I just don't want to, um. Be around anybody that still has their weapon," and her throat closed up for a moment, tears stinging at her eyes. She swallowed and wiped at her face with her free hand. "I think about it and I just feel so... so ******** jealous, and so sad... I dunno. You think they can fix them?" She looked up and met Leon's gaze directly, a pleading look in her eyes. Please say yes, please say yes-

Leon didn't bother to say much, Madison seemed like the one out of the two of them that needed to get it off her chest. He merely sat on the edge of his bed and listened. "I dunno." he said, pausing in thought. "i can be around people with their weapons, i still have my fists." he said calmly, looking over the stated club of hands that he had, marveling at what he knew they could do to an unarmed person. "i just don't want to be around someone that has MY weapon, if that could ever happen." the life hunter stated, his tone bitter at the horrible thought of Nid working with someone else. getting his dinner from another mouth. It was sickening. The boxer felt his body shudder at the idea and pulled the blanket closer to himself, tucking it over himself. "I'm not sure, i never saw the data on weapons, i'm not sure." he continued carefully. it sucked to be honest sometimes. "Who knows?"

Madison sighed - it wasn't the answer she'd really hoped for, but it was at least an honest one. "I mean, if they can take out our weapons... I read about the incident in 1999. I know Hunters used to mostly have Runic weapons. And I know they died a lot easier." She shivered, wrapping her own arms around herself. "They better have the Life labs humming day and night to figure this s**t out." The idea of someone else having Kouki was... eugh. "Someone having your weapon is like, I dunno, someone wearing your dirty underwear. Gross."

"i remember reading about that." Leon chimed in, the text of what happened back then and the trials non bonded hunters had to go through. The survival rate was low, too low and it game him a sense of dread to possibly have to go back to those times. They would be the laughingstock of the squads, the handicapped hunters that probably would be even more disposable that the late Caelius once called them. it made the life hunter sick to his stomach. Even if he could try and get the Life division to manufacture a pair of runic gloves, it wouldn't be the same. "i'm sure they are already on the search for a way to restore them, the petrified hunters included." he assured her blindly. The fact that he wasn't truly believing it one bit kept nagging at the back of his mind like a disease. The division already had its hands full with other research. Those who were fully dedicated to their projects, he was sure they would not drop what they were doing to begin a new discovery. There were no Nobel peace prizes awarded in that division after all. Just a juice box with a piece of tape with 'good job' written on it in black magic marker. "Its a vile concept i know, but I'd rather take into consideration everything before it take me by surprise." he said blandly, his face was tired and the lack of sleep over this dilemma was worn heavily with his darkened under eyes.

"Yeah... ugh, god. Bix..." Madison sighed raggedly. She hadn't known any of the other victims that well, but Bix stuck in her heart, even though she hadn't talked to him one-on-one for ages. Too busy with... god, what had she even been doing? She couldn't remember. Training, probably, to use a weapon she no longer had. She glanced up, then grimaced in sympathy. "You look like hell. I probably do too..." She scrubbed at her face with both hands; at least she'd cleaned up decently well, though she didn't have any of her usual makeup on. "At least I bet we're gonna have a rest. Poor bastards with weapons are gonna get worked until their asses fall off." A cold sort of revenge, but she'd take it. Even if she knew it was unfair and petty of her, she couldn't quite help it...

"Bix and Marcus." Leon said in remorse. they had dreams and plans and lives, and now they were decorations. "A horrible fate, worse than losing a weapon." They were people they once knew, the albino was too nice to be gone. fate was cruel. the memories only made him feel more exhausted as he sighed for those who could not anymore. He wanted to glower at Madison, but the effort was just too much, he instead chose to scoff at the huntress. "Boxers never look pretty, just beat up." he mentioned dryly, poking at his nose that was busted up far too many times to count. the idea of being useless and left doing nothing made the life hunter feel restless as he fidgeted on the bed, the squeaky springs creaking at the motion. "More like we are going to be abused with doing more back line work, like doing paperwork and bending to the will of the useful hunters." just saying it made the bile in his throat rise, nasty and vile. "Until they get bored of us and send us off to die in some horrible mission with no weapons or backup." Yeah Leon, best pep talk person ever.

Madison grimaced. "I really, really hope you're wrong. Geez..." The thought brought a lump back to her throat, and she closed her eyes for a moment. "If the freaks can do this without even touching us, now... we're going to lose. God damnit." Her voice cracked on the last word, and she leaned forward and buried her head in her hands as the tears she'd been fighting finally came. "Sorry-" she hiccuped.

Leon didn't say a word. or move. for that matter. He knew that his 'bed side manner' as his father called it was lacking. more like it never really existed. He felt far too much like an awkward panda once someone started crying. No one cries in a boxing gym. It was just odd. He merely watched with a blank expression as Madsion had her moment with her feelings. "Just cause we are weaponless, it does not mean that the fight is over." the life hunter uttered once he felt maddy was a little calmer to listen. "We will find a way, we can be resourceful." he continued, he had all of the utmost faith in their systems. It was all they had left to believe in, besides themselves. But madison was still crying. and Leon was far too busy awkward penguining it up. moments where he tried to reach out and turning back to brush hesitantly at the nape of his own neck. The open mouth that he wanted to say something for it and merely closed with a clunk of teeth meeting teeth. Wat do. neutral

"Ugh-" With a ragged sigh, Madison forced the tears back down. "Not like it helps, anyway. Sorry..." Another sigh. "You're right, I mean... there has to be a way. We're the only thing standing between the freaks and the rest of the world, so..." Feeling stupid, she wiped at her eyes with her sleeves, then gave Leon a wry smile. "Th-thanks. Um."

The life trainee let out an awkward sound, the guttural sound of one clearing his throat. and the sheepish look of the male turning away and plucking a tissue from the nightstand table to offer to his guest. A modest offering to stop ones tears. "Lets put our hopes on this place, we already put the sanctity of our lives on the line." he replied back softly. almost unsure as he bit his lip in the soft light of the lamp. And he gingerly stretched his hand out of clasp Madisons. To comfort her, even if it was minute.
