Malifaux, Anyone? I was given a commission of five Malifaux models a month or so ago. The models were truly amazing and I really got in to them. Anyone else? The models I was given were a madhatter and four women. I now know that they're resurrections but either way I really enjoyed painting them. Finished gangI ended up getting myself some Gremlins and we played a few little games yesterday to get used to the rules. It's quite fun. We had a good laugh. Latest addition to my crew

It's on my list as I'm very interested in the mechanics behind the game, cards instead of dice.
I've already been scouting out the gangs and factions and chances are I'll be going with the Showgirls, an Arcanist group and because the minis are so stunning, chances are I'll commission someone to paint them for me. redface

The mechanics of the game are very interesting. I really enjoy the rules. You can affect the card you flip in most scenarios by either replacing it with one of six (or seven in big games) 'control cards' you take at the beginning of each turn, called 'Cheating Fate', or by spending 'soul stones' with certain characters, allowing you to flip another card and add the result. I think it makes the game very tactical because you can sometimes force your opponent to give up control cards by cheating a high card and getting them to either try and beat it or at least minimise the damage.
The models are indeed fantastic. Though they're quite highly priced. The only thing is that you really don't need many. 55pts is top end for a game. I have 16 models and am at 51pts. That's a high number of models for that point value too, being Gremlins.

I'm trying to get a whole "play X amount of games a year" going with just buying starters or warband boxed sets, less models per side the better really, both for ease of picking it up to play and to keep the cost down, but my main problem is nobody plays the "exotic" stuff around here sadly.
Chances are I will buy into this, if only for the fluff. I am a bit of a fan of these alternate steampunk / whatever settings.

Yeah. It's almost the American take on steampunk, rather than a victorian look.
It would be possible to get a game played for £60. That'd give you a printed rulebook too. All you would need on top is two packs of playing cards, a wipe board marker and some beads/counters/markers/spare bases etc... and a willing opponent..
I haven't even started on the fluff. All I really know fluff wise is the factions and the basic premise. I hear that it's huge on fluff though?

Quite so, I like the idea of having Old West gunfighters, Russian folklore and Parisian showgirls as gaming options. 4laugh
Fluff is a big deal it seems, though the big fluff additions will come later this year when they do a Kickstarter to finance their Malifaux RPG.

Aye! Though it seems almost anything goes. Currently working on some punk rock zombies led by a leprechaun.

I'd be delighted if there were to be a steady flow of pictures of painted models and posts detailing first hand experiences with the game. wink

How often will you ask your opponents to squeal like a pig? wink
Rubbish joke aside, lovely models and great painting! Is that your whole crew or will there be more additions?

Thanks. (:
There are 12 more models for my crew that still need painting and possibly a few more to come yet. So far as points count I've already filled all but the largest of games, but there are -many- different options as to what you can use in your crew. Plus the Gremlins can sacrifice models (usually Gremlins) and summon other models (piglets or giant mosquitoes) in their place mid-game, which means I might want quite a few models in 'reserve', as sorts.

Hi Thar! Never did keep on top of this did I? Kind of got a bit too busy and then pre-occupied and then lost interest a bit to keep on top of my own Malifaux. Here's the latest commission I worked on for Worthy Painting, which just so happens to be a Malifaux jobby. Pandora crew, Freikorps and Dreamer AvatarIf I do say so myself, I'm quite happy with how Candy and Baby Kade (the ones pictured there) turned out. Particularly Candy's hair.
