It was date night, yes indeed it was. Nicolae was waiting out in front of the French restaurant, and had been since about quarter after six. He wanted to make sure he got there first, just because…well. He knew that he wouldn’t recognize her…after all, he hadn’t known Alex from Benitoite, and he mentioned that that was for safety reasons…so…well. He had a way around it.
He had printed out a nice picture of the Disney Princess Aurora and fixed it to a stick, after writing the words ‘looking for’ right over the picture. If that didn’t work, then he wasn’t sure what would.
He was dressed quite well and had fixed his hair into a very manageable ponytail so it wouldn’t flop everywhere, and had dug a suit from his closet. It didn’t look too terribly bad. Again, he had read the menu, and already had picked out just what he was going to get…and if Aurora was going to spend her first date with him, then she was going to try some snails before the night was over.
The blonde had made sure to get enough money to pay for this crazy dinner and now he just stood there, leaning against the wall of the restaurant, holding his sign up, hoping the girl got the memo.

This was supposed to be the best night of her life. SO WHY DID IT FEEL SO AWKWARD? Oh, she knew. It was because of the stares that she got as she got out of her brother's car a few blocks away. Nearly everyone just plain gawked at the dress that was decided for tonight's entertainment. Not that she didn't LIKE the dress, it was just.. .. That it was her mother's WEDDING dress. When her brothers had gotten hold of this very valuable information that their dear sister Esme actually had a date, they were beside themselves with the sheer devilish glee of being able to help. Such a special night required pure white, with white shear cape and white flowers with pearls sewn into the skirt and the hem. At least they didn't make her wear the veil. Instead, they added a few white blossoms in there and doo'd it up, allowed her cotton candy pink tresses to fall upon her naked shoulders. Their evil knew no bounds. So when Esme saw his sign as she hurried forward, she just couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Maripo, is that you?"

Nicolae watched the girl in the wedding dress while she was walking up, and of course…of course he had just thought it was some girl who was going to her wedding reception or something. Who else would come out dressed like a bride?
He didn’t pay her much mind…well…he didn’t until she started walking over to him…then talked to him. Called him Maripo.
Well s**t.
The blonde lowered his sign and took her hand, kissing the back of it gently. “Now now, Miss Aurora. Did I say something last night that I don’t remember saying? Are we getting married now? I was under the impression this was just a date?”
Well. They certainly looked like a happy couple. Him in his suit, her in her dress…Nothing to do now but play it up…maybe he could even get the meal for free if he did this right.
“Then again, my dear wife.” His violet eyes were glinting in the streetlight, and he was grinning broadly. “Shall we go inside and have our delicious wedding dinner?”

Mmmbbrlllbbbl. Esme's face flushed full force. In some fantasy of hers between then and now, she had indeed imagined him asking for her hand in marriage. But that wasn't really reality, was it. .... drat, it wasn't! She had to think for a moment there. She'd have to relay the humiliating story about her brothers later. As she glanced about, taking in the whispers of the bride and groom about to enter the restaurant, the girl relaxed and brightened up. She might as well play this up. "I cannot wait, dearest husband. I hope they have a splendid cake ready for us." Pause. "Their reputation exceeds..." Esme would bask in their chatter. This felt good.

Nicolae led Esme to the table as the server showed the way. He was a complete gentleman, holding her chair out and pushing her in, placing a gentle kiss on her cheek. “My darling wife. I hope this restaurant lives up to its reputation.”
He sat across from her and took the menu, ordering two glasses of wine, eyes on the pink haired girl. He was almost positive that she wasn’t of age…but…wearing that dress, perhaps the restaurant wouldn’t question it. What kind of people got married before they could drink, after all.
When the waiter had hurried off, Nicolae just grinned. “So, tell me…why are you in a wedding dress?” His voice lowered just slightly and he took a sip of the water that had been brought out when they were seated. “Because…I really didn’t realize we were getting married. Thanks for playing along though.”
His eyes were moving up and down her, taking in every detail of the dress. It seemed old, it couldn’t belong to her, of course…but why would she wear a dress…perhaps it was her mother’s? Grandmother’s? Maybe she had lost a bet.

Omigosh such a gentleman. OMIGOSH he kept calling her 'wife' too. Esme could hardly contain her excitement about all this. Her first kiss and now her first DATE. Becoming a senshi had opened up so many doors for her - both the good and the bad. Wait. Erk. He wanted an explanation for this madness? Esme blushed and her eyes went up at the ceiling. What a pretty chandelier! She tapped her lower lip. How in the world could you explain something like that without looking utterly foolish? She didn't want to screw this up. This was for the sake of her love life here. "You don't like it?" She looked back down at him, smiling. "It was my mother's and it's my brothers' fault." WELP. So much for keeping secrets. She had a penchant for doing that. That whole trusting people thing. Esme quickly grabbed for the water, nearly knocking it over in the process. Need. water. quickly. Was it hot in here?

Nicolae just grinned. Well. He might really have been right. If it was her brothers’ fault, then she must have lost a bet…or just become a victim of a terrible prank. Either way, it was funny. “Well, it’s not that I don’t like it, Aurora. I think you look…absolutely beautiful. I suppose I just…wasn’t expecting it, but…I do feel quite honored that I get to dine with you looking so incredibly beautiful.”
He let his grin fall, giving a soft smile as the wine was delivered. He did so like a good wine. The blonde picked up his glass and took a sip, sighing happily. “Fantastic. This place really is as good as they say. Now, I must ask. Why did your brothers make you wear the wedding dress? Did you lose a bet with them? Or were they just being jerks and trying to ruin your first date by scaring me off?”
He took another sip of the wine, then gave a laugh. “Because I assure you. You haven’t scared me off one bit.”

Such a charmer. Esme still couldn't really wrap her head around it right now. That she was on a date. with a handsome guy. for real and not in her head. And he just kept saying the right things too. That she was beautiful. That he was honored. Heck, there was even WINE. Wine was like the most date-y thing that she could ever fathom. Not to mention she was in a fantastic dress. She eyed the wine. The girl was just barely seventeen and here was temptation. ... not that it really stopped her before. Sip. "No?" A warm blush crept to her cheeks and already she felt a little giddy.. or giddier. Hooo boy. "It's my first date so they thought it'd be best if I look all virginal and white and bridal so to scare you off. Yeah, you're right." She offered a smile. "They said something about a shotgun wedding too if you didn't behave yourself. By the way, it's Esme. Esme Blanchard."

Nicolae nodded. “Esme. That’s a pretty name…but, you realize. Since we’re married now. I do believe that your name would be Esme Sparke right now. Since I’m Nicolae Sparke, and you’re my wife.” He grinned at her explanation of what her brothers had done, and couldn’t help but laugh, though the phrase of a shotgun wedding didn’t really…ring any bells in his head…well, other than making him get a song stuck in his head.
Had that been…Panic at the Disco maybe? Ah well. He’d have to look it up when he got home, the song that is, not the phrase itself.
“Anyway, Esme. I think this date is going quite swimmingly. I think we should go on another…and you shouldn’t wear the wedding dress this time.” He winked and gave a slow grin before finishing a moment later. “I really think you should just wear something comfortable. We can go to the movies or something.”
The blonde took another sip of his wine then paused. “I don’t believe I’ve ever asked, but how old are you, Esme?”

"Esme Sparke. Nicolae Sparke. That... has a nice ring to it," she answered slowly, dreamily. Images in her head were already forming of the two with such a lovely house and a lovely family and oh my goodness SO MANY BABIES. It took her a few moments to actually get back to reality. All the babies and the kissing and.. and... oh my goodness... It was just so beautiful. "Yeah! We should go on another one!" Back to reality. She blurted that out nice and quick. The second question lingered in the air, however. He looked a bit older than her, a real grown up. Not that she couldn't trust him, of course. "I'm seventeen." Esme Sparke took another sip of her wine. "And definitely drinking illegally~"

Nicolae just laughed. “Oh I see. I’m glad you think our names go well together. But, hey. Come back now.” She looked like she was lost in a complete daydream…hm. Well…maybe he was laying it on too thick. The blonde jumped when she all but shouted that they should go on another date, and he laughed again, having to put the wine glass down or risk spilling it.
One thing this girl had going for her, she was absolutely adorable.
“Ah. Seventeen, eh? Well, that’s not so bad. I’m twenty two. Just turned twenty two. I’m definitely drinking legally, so, at least one of us is. If you’re just a little kid…” He grinned then shrugged. “Maybe I’ll have to watch out for how much you drink. I don’t want you to get into trouble, and I don’t want your brothers to think I’m getting you drunk so I can do strange things to you. Because really. I’m not that kind of a guy.”
He wasn’t. He really wasn’t. He liked flirting, he liked the game, liked wooing the ladies…and sometimes the guys…but he wasn’t the type who really liked to go too far. Nah. That just got complicated. He didn’t like complicated.

Just a little kid, huh. That felt like a challenge to her. Just a little kid. If there was one thing that Esme couldn't resist, it was a challenge. So.. she started gulping down that wine. Glug, glug, glug. The rush was.. amazing. Euphoric. Like how she felt she was in love multiplied by a billion. No wonder mom likes this stuff. When she was finished, she set the glass down and gazed right into Nicolae's eyes. "What sorts of things wouldn't you do, Maripo?" She just HAD TO KNOW.

He stared as she guzzled the wine. Well…hm. This might end badly after all. Was she getting a glazed look in her eyes after only one glass of wine? Well…at least that showed him how much of a lightweight she was. “What sort of things wouldn’t I do to you, Esme…well. If you have to ask about them, then I’m quite sure you wouldn’t know what they were even if I told you, so, why don’t you just not ask.”
Nicolae flashed her a smile. “Now, I really would go easy on that wine, I don’t want your brothers coming after me saying I got their dear little sister drunk on the first date. That could really end badly for me. Besides.”
He drew his glass back into his hand. “A good wine like this…It should be appreciated, not just…forced down your throat. That’s not fair to the wine.”
Not that a seventeen year old would know anything about this…hell. He was quite sure he wouldn’t know about any of this if he didn’t have the Food Network on while he did puzzles. He learned a lot about cooking from that television station…and a lot about eating as well.

She smacked the roof of her mouth with her tongue and went for the glass of water. This was turning out to be a disaster. A horrible, horrible disaster. For a brief moment, she wished she never had decided to come out tonight. No one ever took her seriously anyway. That's just the way things were and the way they'd be. The water went down but did nothing to repair her injured pride, nor the burning sensation in the back of her throat. "It's not fair to treat me like a child, either," she mumbled before putting on a happy smile again. "In any case, I can handle my brothers very well. You'll be fine."

Nicolae blinked. “I wasn’t trying to treat you like a child, Esme.” He gave a small smile. “You’re not a child, and I really wasn’t trying to make you feel that way. You’re a great girl, and I really look forward to getting to know you more.” He reached out a hand for her, still smiling.
“But, Esme, you are a child when it comes to drinking. I don’t think you or anyone has obsessed over the Food Network and the Cooking channel like I have. I just love learning about that crap…Plus, I think I’m going to go to culinary school…I really might. So. Maybe you’re not a child per say…but.”
He gave another grin now. “But you do need to maybe listen to advice? Wine is…I don’t know. Seductive, special. It’s a total sensory drink…guzzling it down is what college kids normally do to get drunk.”
