The horse pranced beneath as they walked beside Aarvard in the center of the army. She could hear the far off snarls of the werewolves trailing the army. She wasn't sure why they would even be that close but she couldn't wait to find out. She desperately wanted a bath to wash away the dirt from traveling. She jolted herself out of her self pitying and focused on the road ahead of them. Soldiers were constantly coming and going as they scouted ahead and came back to report to Aarvard. Her turn was coming up. She and a few select wolves would be scouting several hours ahead and reporting what they found. Just because the war was over doesn't mean that people were going to calm down right away. She wheeled her horse around and raced to the back of the army where she gathered five other werewolves who had as near as skill as she did. She left her horse with one of the Lts. and quickly shifted forms. She howled and peeled out of there with the others on her tail. The weres that followed her were the leaders of the several packs that were following them. She had yet to discern their reason for following the army and especially Aarvard but she knew that she would find out what the reason was. With that she called to Aarvard.

Aavard rode in silence, anger still coursing through him - though it had admittedly calmed with time. He warred with himself; part of him couldn't believe that Charles would kill his own father, yet he knew that he was capeable.
Aavard shifted restlessly in his saddle; the full moon was drawing nearer. He was running out of time. Once he shifted, he wouldn't be able to continue the hunt for Charles and the trail would soon vanish with the first snow of winter. He started out of his thoughts; Alice was calling to him.

Aavard, I'm taking a group ahead to scout for a location to stop for the duration of the full moon. Its approaching quickly. I'm also going to ask them for the use of their best trackers that can continue the search for Charles. I'll have to go with them. I'll discuss it more with you when we stop. I'll report to you every two hours. With that she dismounted from her horse and shifted shape. She didn't feel the pain from shifting anymore and could shift rather rapidly now. She howled for the alphas and started running towards the front of the army. She revealed in the stretch and pull of her muscles. She felt rather than heard when the alphas joined her. She thought spoke to them about her plan as they ran forward.

Aavard knew that Alice was more than capeable of taking care of herself, but he couldn't help feeling apprehensive whenever she left his side. Everyone obeyed and accepted her as their queen, though they hadn't had the oppotunity to get married. He supposed he should be happy that she was so loved and respected, but part of him still felt a deep longing. He wanted to be her husband, not just her mate. Everything changed when that werewolf bit me...
Aavard sighed and looked toward the sky. The moon an the sun hovered above opposite horizons, and he was caught between. Wherever you are, Charles, I'll find you.

 ~~Alistriona Renee McKinnon~~
Alice surged forward with her powerful leg muscles. The werewolf leaders agreed to her plan and she was thinking ahead about the winter season and what it would mean for all of them when she came across a scent. She slowed down her running and took a deeper sniff. She found the scent of pine needles and earth. She gave an excited bark and looked at Nera, one of the werewolf leaders. Nera was quickly proving herself to be a good second-in-command. She took off and Nera barked at the others to follow. They all nearly plowed into as she stopped abruptly and stared at the tall pine trees in front of her. They were nearly a full days travel from the army. She called out with her mind to the wolves, this is the spot. We need to double back and meet with the army. Lets go! The closer she got to Aarvard the more her speed picked up. Werewolves could run notoriously fast even hybrids or half-breeds. It didn't take them long to travel what would take humans 4 hours to cover.

Aavard felt it before he saw it; the black bird gliding noiselessly from tree to tree, silently observing them. This one was different from Daegal's spy, so he could only assume it was another ancient. He stopped the soldier nearest to him and motioned for his bow and an arrow. Quickly he took aim and loosed the arrow; it narrowly avoided the raven. With an indignant screech, it soared off high above the canopy. "Quickly! We must search for the cover of caves," he ordered his soldiers. They moved onward, Aavard continually scanning the trees for signs of his mate.

Alistriona smelled the scent of danger and fear in the air and it made her and her fellow weres snarl. She shook her massive head and called to Nera, We need to hurry. They're in danger. They'll probably find shelter in nearby caves. Meanwhile gather your strongest warriors and get them prepared. We go to battle when we reach the others. She kept running at full speed and the landscape passed by them in a blink of an eye. She knew she was nearing the area where Aarvard was and slowed. She called to them with her mind and said Who is it? Who threatens us? . Meanwhile she and the weres spread out and waited for the others to join them with her leading.

As soon as they reached the caves, Aavard directed his men to the safest point while he took the higher of the caves. From there he'd see the whole battle and be able to direct it to the greatest advantage. When he shifted, he'd have his men fall back to hide themselves from him while he and the other weres took care of any stray guards. He knew he could count on Alice and her pack to keep him in check during the full moon - the only time he lost his sense of self and all memories during the change to were.

Son, Who resides in the body of...^*^The Guardsmen^*^ --------------------- As he marched along through the wooded landscape he silently wondered where he was. He had not had time to gather his bearings before retreating the battleground where his last body had fallen, and he was forced to take on this far more feeble form. What was worse was that the soldier had had little to no useful information for him about the world, and his mind had only battled against him and tried to force him out. It had only taken a few hours for Son to tire of the man’s spirit and crush it out, forcing it from the body. He was weak of mind, so it had not taken much exertion on his part, but the effort of fully supporting a human form for the first time since he had lost his original was more of a burden than he had expected. While in the back of the minds of others he had had plenty energy to scheme and devise plans while they did his bidding, but he now found that actually having full control of a body took quite a bit of concentration.
He had hoped he would stumble across some marker or sign of civilization so that he could get directions back to where he wanted to go, but so far trees and dirt were all he had been finding. What more he had never felt cold as deep as this, where he had grown snow had not fallen in the winter and warm weather had been quite abundant all year round. The frigid air made him regret even more the loss of his last body, which had been naturally equipped with its own fur coat. Seeing the sun quite sunken down and the full moon on the rise he decided it was time to rest this human body to keep it from freezing to death in this desolate place. He made his way toward a set of caves set into a hill, hoping to make a fire inside to warm him through the night. What he saw when he reached the caves was not what he had expected though. Soldiers, different than his current form but clearly set for battle. He could tell easily that the man in the highest cave was the leader, but the way he had positioned his men was strange, not like any formation he had ever seen. He quickly determined that this had to be some sort of guerilla army, and that he had wondered in at quite the wrong time. He would have been even more worried if he knew what they really were, or how inopportune a moment he had chosen to wonder by wearing the garb of a soldier. He quickly backed up, looking to escape before they noticed him.((I dont mean to butt into your guys RP uninvited, if you already had plans or would rather not have me here just let me know and I will delete this post and start elsewhere, just thought it might be funner starting in an already ongoing thread rather than starting a new one.))

~Alistriona~Alistriona and her pack circled around behind the stranger whose scent made her slightly nauseated and quickly shifted to her human form. The cold didn't bother her as it would anybody else. She unsheathed a knife and cleared her throat. Sending a mental message to Aarvard, "We found an intruder. Nera and I are dealing with the situation right now. But he doesn't look like a true guard. He's by himself." She watched the impersonator whirl around. She waved her hand towards the pack telling them that this was her situation to deal with and they were not to interfere. She spoke softly, " I know you're here alone but i'm curious as to why? Are you a spy coming to gather information? We don't take kindly to strangers as you can see. So tell me Guardsman....what are you doing here?" Alistriona's wolf spirit snarled and begged to be released but she tamped down the urge and focused on the task at hand. She listened for any telepathic communications and knew she needed to return to watch over Aarvard sooner rather than later.

Son, Who resides in the body of...^*^The Guardsmen^*^ --------------------- Son turned and looked upon the woman who had come forward. He had noticed a few seconds before that his attempt at escape was being thwarted. He had only noticed the slightest movement in the woods around him, so whoever these people were they were excellent at keeping themselves concealed. As he looked at the woman he could see why, she was obviously a potent warrior. He gazed into her eyes, contemplating abandoning his current body and trying to take over hers through the bond of eye contact. If he did though he would have to battle the woman’s spirit for dominance of the body, and looking into her eyes he could tell that would not be a simple task. The guardsman’s spirit he had crushed out easily as it was weak, but behind this woman's eyes he saw something unnatural, something so powerful that he knew he would never be able to suppress it as inexperienced as he currently was. He decided to try diplomacy instead, figuring the worst that could happen was that she would try to kill him. If that happened he could still risk trying to battle her spirit, though he sincerely hoped he could keep it from coming to that.
"I am Darcer, and I am lost in these woods." One of the few pieces of useful information he had gotten from the guardsman before he forced him out of his body was his name. With it he could at very least seem believable. "I was forced to flee here after I was injured in battle. I have wondered for some time and you are the first people I have come across." He did his best to sound humble, and his voice was right on key. The only thing that could possibly give away his true feelings of upmost superiority to every other living thing, was his eyes. They looked straight into hers, not wavering or turning away, even as he dropped to his knees in a final act of humility. "I know not what your struggle here is, but I will offer whatever aid I can to your cause, if only for food drink and shelter from the cold. Without those, I doubt I shall carry on much longer."
He dropped the spear he had been using more as a walking stick for the last few miles, detached the wooden shield from his arm, and finally removed his helmet, stacking them all in front of him as he sat on his knees. His hope was that this would demonstrate his lack of hostility. The truth was his body was far too weak to take on the woman anyway. The soldier had actually been injured in that battle, that was not a lie, not to mention he was starving, dehydrated, and freezing to death. Casting off the guardsman’s feeble weapons made little difference to him, as long as he could maintain eye contact his spirit would have somewhere to run if his body was killed. It made him look far less nervous than he ought to have been stripping himself bare of protection, but he was too distracted trying to act pious to take much else into account.

Alistriona watched as the guardsmen knelt to the ground and cast off his weapons. She could tell he was injured just from the way the blood spilled from his body. The weakness in him made her wolf want to jump and tear his throat but she quelled that desire quickly. She quickly sent a mental picture to Aarvard of the guardsman and called forth Nera.
"I do not think you are being entirely truthful with me Darcer. If that is even your real name. However this is a precarious time for we are at war. I will take you to our healer. You will be allowed to enter the camp under one condition. You will be blindfolded. You can take your rest and you will be given food. Once you start to recover if by then i haven't discovered any lies then we will discuss your situation then." Alistriona paused and motioned Nera forward.
She watched Nera put the blindfold on Darcer and then walked forward. She helped Darcer stand and then put most of his weight on her. They walked slowly over the terrain. The wolves walked in a circle moving forward with them with Nera leading the pack.
They arrived at the camp a short time later and her eyes immediately sought Aarvards. She saw him leading as he usually does and breathed a short exhalation of relief.

Aavard knew that he would be changing soon and that he would no longer be himself; he would be wolf in every sense. Still, he could sense something was off. Quickly, he scanned the ground and found Alice and her pack escorting an injured man. The wolf in him snarled. The animal could sense something evil lurking within the man. Without further thought, he leaped from his perch in the top-most cave and landed in the midst of his soldiers. Are you alright, my love? He eyed the newcomer carefully. Who is this man? Soon we will be in battle. He may be part of a trap. He lifted his eyes to Alice in worry.

Alistriona smiled and chuckled softly as her mate's voice drifted through her mind. Yes I'm fine. I checked him and the pack checked the surrounding area. He's completely alone. His name is Darcer and he's severely wounded. He's blindfolded and won't see any other faces except for mine. She could feel Aarvard's anxiety as the change loomed closer. She sent feelings of warmth and relaxation through their bond.
