The scene was much the same as it had been many times before: Eanah and Leyn sitting on a rise looking out over a cluster of dragons. The girl wasn't yet permitted to travel to this continent on her own, but she was allowed to fight alone under her tutor's supervision. Eanah desperately wanted to slide down the sheer rock face in front of them and let loose her power, but she was determined not to give in to such temptation when there was nothing more urgent pushing her forward. Leyn would save her had she chosen to attack, she was sure of that, but not before she put them both in grave danger. She could no longer afford to be that foolish.
Minutes passed, maybe an hour. Eventually the vast majority of the Ayrala dragons took wing, leaving one or two smallish stragglers on the ground. She looked to Leyn, taking a deep breath when he nodded. It was time to act, but still not the time to be rash. Eanah rose to her feet, stretching her legs back to wakefulness, and gripped her scepter. Slowly, unbearably slowly, she advanced, creeping her way back down to the flat expanse of rock below rather than sliding as she had imagined. One of the dragons took wing, leaving the last, a cocky young creature, strong and tall. And dead.
She was silent as she loosed her magic, grinning ferally as it connected with the Ayrala's thigh and sent her reeling back with a roar. Eanah crouched, bracing herself against the rumbling roll caused by the dragon's thunderous footsteps. Once she had regained her balance, she ran, casting a flimsy fireball behind her that slowed her opponent momentarily. The girl glanced up at Leyn as he waved his scepter in an arc, lightning crackling at its end. He was leading her. She followed.
The dragon was too large and she was too weak. She could admit that much, at least to herself. Still, she had put on quite a show for her first time properly using magic against one of the beasts. Leyn met her in a dark cave with a mouth far too small for the air dragon to do more than huffily ruffle their cloaks, and eventually it wandered away out of boredom, leaving the Oblivionites free to return to the Sanctuary in relative safety.
