It had been a day since her disastrous exploration into the jungle outside of the colony's lands. She knew that she was taking it harder than she should have, but it felt like he had snubbed her because she was just....who she was. How could she not take it hard? Adjusting to living here in the jungle had been a challenge, but to feel belittled by someone who seemed to live amazingly well in the jungle....she just felt like an absolute favor.
Mentally marking where that black leopard had been, the white leopardess kept herself away from there. Even with the temping source of water, she just...didn't want to run into him again. She'd probably burst into tears, and then feel even more like an idiot.
Dragging her paws a bit, she wondered if she should just go back to the colony. Everywhere felt lonely, but she knew that she'd be safe there, as long as she found a good place to lay down. Still...she did want to prove to them that she could live within the jungle on her own, and not completely depend on them.
Pausing, she glanced upwards at the tree tops, only seeing patches of the sky between the leaves. She missed it, some days, though the trees were comforting in their own right.

Farraginis paced through the the jungle, keeping a weather eye out for any signs of movement. This hushed place was so unlike the wide open savannah he had come from. However, there wasn't enough prey out there that a lone leopard could hunt successfully, and he had hopes of being better off in the jungle. He didn't know much about the place, but from all the rustling around and above him, he guessed that there was a significant amount of life here. The leopard suddenly froze, catching sight of a stranger. Mostly white, it seemed to be another leopard! He was sure this was a good sign for survival...but couldn't be certain what a stranger would think of his intrusion. "Ah...hello there," he called out, alerting the other to his presence.

Jayani sniffled a bit, trying to not let herself think too much about the past situation. Really...was it her fault? Was it not? She really didn't know, and she figured that if she ever ran into him again, he wouldn't even tell her.
She jumped when she heard a voice, that being the last thing she expected. Her eyes widened as she glanced around, and saw another leopard. A stranger, again. Her stomach dropped, but she did her best to be polite.
"H-hi," she said, her eyes going over his body. He didn't look anything like that other leopard...would he be a bit nicer? She felt herself shivering a bit from anxiety, shuffling a bit of dead leaves on the ground as she turned to face this stranger. No....he looked a lot different, but would he act the same way towards her?

Ah, a leopardess! How had he not been able to figure that one out before? Farraginis resisted the powerful urge to slap himself for failing that spot check. No wonder he'd been forced to come here - his observation skills obviously weren't up to the task. A pity, but he supposed his pride would have to bear his shame.
"I'm sorry for disturbing you," he replied to her clear startlement. "I thought you had already seen me...and I am, after all, a stranger here." He didn't ask if this was her territory - that would be exceedingly rude. But he would act as if that were the case until otherwise informed. He certainly didn't want to offend her!

One ear twitched backwards as she processes his words. He was....well, polite so far. She still felt a little anxious, but she felt eased enough to stop her shaking. "No...I wasn't paying attention, I'm sorry." She didn't know why she was apologizing, it just sort of came out. He wasn't the best at blending into his surroundings, that's for sure.
She paused for just a moment, turning her body to face him better. His patterning was....very intriguing, but she was trying to keep herself a bit more guarded than yesterday. "I'm not the most comfortable in the jungle either, but strangers crossing in unclaimed territory is common enough," she offered with a wary smile.

Gold eyes widened slightly as he took in her meaning. She was uncomfortable here? That meant it likely wasn't her territory either. Which did make Farraginis wonder...why exactly was she here? It was probably something similar to the need which had driven him, but he couldn't be certain. Unfortunately for his curiosity, it would be terribly rude to inquire.
"I'm afraid I wouldn't have the slightest idea if this territory was claimed or not," he admitted at last. "But, I have been rude. My name is Farraginis," the leopard told her with a graceful bow. "May I know whom I have the honor of addressing?"

Her ear twitched, but she also felt a smile growing on her face. No, he was much different than uber-grumpy-pants the other day. "Well, you learn the longer you're here. Good thing I cam across you here, instead of in the colony's territory. Some of them are....well..." She made a face, showing that they weren't always the nicest leopards. "Just be careful."
Her tail twitched in amusement, and she wiggled some of her front toes. "I'm Jayani, its nice to meet you, Farraginis. And I mean it," she added on a bit sadly. "Not everyone is nice in the jungle."

A smile stretched across his face as Jayani introduced herself in turn. It was very kind of her to go out of her way to warn him the way she had, and he wouldn't soon forget the favor.
"In that case, I'm glad to have met you when I did," he returned. "But...what is this about a colony? I'm not sure what you mean." It sounded like there was a group of people living somewhere in this jungle, but he'd never actually heard the word "colony" used that way before. He had heard it used as a synonym to "outpost", but that didn't seem to be how the white leopardess meant it.
Hopefully she'd be willing to tell him more.

Jayani...well, she couldn't help herself. She was still a tad nervous, but now that nervousness stemmed from the fact that she hoped she didn't say the wrong thing and drive him away. He was nice, and Jayani only hoped that he wouldn't turn on her.
"Um, well, we're a colony of leopards!" she said simply enough. "There's some ruins that the leaders claim were maid my two-leggers...whatever that is. It keeps us safe from the rain, sort of warm when it gets cold...its nice enough."
Dare she say why she joined them? She felt stupid just thinking about it, so she wouldn't volunteer that information...

A leopard colony? In the jungle? Living in two-legger ruins? He'd never thought of such a thing before, but had to admit it made a decent amount of sense. Lions tended to prefer the wide open stretches of savannah where they could hunt larger prey. Cheetahs the same, but for the speeds they could reach.
Leopards though, leopards were much more skilled at climbing trees than running, and didn't have the size to hunt as lions did unless if there were quite a few of them in the party. So really, the arrangement Jayani had described made a lot of sense.
And sounded somewhat appealing.
"That is most interesting, I had not heard of such a colony," Farraginis replied. "Perhaps...you could tell me more?" A colony would undoubtedly be a way to guarantee food for a significant population of leopards. Not to mention that there were likely to be charming leopardesses as well...
...it sounded like a perfect destination as far as Farraginis was concerned.
