It was getting on dusk, and Kahanu needed to look for shelter. The events of the day had been far from uneventful. He'd never seen the trolls before, with their powerful, glistening tusks and strong demeanors. It had been...a bit nerve wracking at first. They hadn't liked his claws, though he'd meant them no harm. It wasn't like Kahanu to injure anyone, or even resort to violence. It wasn't like he wouldn't if the situation presented itself, but he felt it best to always use that as an absolute last resort.
He'd met the leader of their patrols, Sen'jin. It was quite curious, to see another soquili of that size. Kahanu felt he was completely average in size, but the power that resided off the other left him momentarily speechless. They had had a few, passing words to each other and then Kahanu was free to go across the river. Thus, that's how he'd come to this forest. He had felt rather...ignorant? Was that the right word? He cocked his head to the side, reflecting on the day that had passed and all its encounters. Yes, ignorant did seem to fit. He'd been ignorant to the trolls and their protected lands. Though all the questions about skinwalkers left him a bit, perturbed. He'd never met one, though it wasn't like him to entirely want to anyway. Though, if he died by one, well, he guessed that's just how the world would go. Still, he didn't exactly envy the thought of any who had lost their lives that way.
He continued walking up a small hill to better see the forest before him. The trees were so lush, making it a bit hard to see anything truly further, though, that wasn't exactly a bad thing. He needed to find shelter, and if a tree had to be his shelter, so be it. He continued forward, walking at a steady pace, hearing the underbrush crinkle and crack with each foot step. He'd never really found the art in subterfuge. He chewed on his bottom lip as he walked, imagining what it'd be like to have those tusks that the trolls have. Would it make eating harder? Or easier? He continued walking, mulling over his questions, wishing that he had actually had a moment to have asked, but alas, it hadn't been meant to be.

Nekali shook out her dreads and meandered towards the outskirts of the Flock territories. She had been hunting but so far had not come up with anything of decent size. A rabbit had been her first target but it was small, and foraging for the winter. The half-troll mare had decided to let it go and looked for something bigger and more substantial. It was about the time that the harpies would store their findings to save for the winter months, even now the weather was gradually getting cooler. Wrinkling her nose at the thought of potential snow, the large mare continued to make her way through the familiar trees, utilizing the hidden paths to make her way quickly to the southern edge where the river curved. She had caught glimpses of soquili who looked much like herself but had never caught one close enough to the river banks to justify talking to them. The Flock had been given strict orders to try and keep their location secret unless they were actively capturing a male. Unless they ventured upon her side of the river, she had to leave well enough alone. That and she had not much considered the option of capturing her own male. Other than the few times she guarded the male glades, she hadn't much thought to the other gender of her species, much preferring the company of her hunter-sisters in terms of conversation and activities.
Still it was more finding another with tusks, who might know her father, that intrigued her the most. Nekali did not consider the chance that he came from a village further away than even she had traveled when the Flock had migrated. She hoped that one day she would meet the other side of her family, but was content that she still at least had her mother to connect with.
A rustling nearby caught her attention as she reached her destination. Someone blue, dark, and harpy-shaped seemed to be making their way towards her. Peering through the leaves she could tell he was unfamiliar with the territory, blundering through one of the thicker parts of the forest. After he disturbed a nest of birds near by, Nekali realized there would be no hunting in this area today. Instead she turned her focus to the stallion. "Heya there, ya mind keepin' it down a little? A girl's gotta hunt!"

Kahanu stared flatly before him as he trudged along. The trees towered over him, making him feel as small as a bat around the foliage, though he pressed on, wondering if he could find a cave or something of the likes to settle in.
Before he got the chance to check the underbelly of a bush, a mare with great tusks and claws similar to his own came through and she didn't exactly look quite pleased. Kahanu looked at her with wide eyes for a moment. Was she a troll? Could he ask her all the questions he'd wanted to ask the trolls before? 'Look at her teeth! She has to be a troll, right?' He blinked a few times, the surprise settling, freeing his gaze to evaluate her elaborate markings and strong legs. Though, her hair was what he really enjoyed about her. So unique. He'd realized he'd started staring when he finally said, "So you do eat meat..." Well, that was one less question than he previously had creating a storm-wreck within his mind.
He cocked his head, like a raptor evaluating prey or friend, curious about what she'd been previously hunting. "Though, I do apologize. I'm not...exactly from around here. Though, I thought your kind stayed on that side of the river?" He flicked his head toward the soft roaring of the water as it flowed passionately down the earth and out into the open oceans of the world. Despite not feeling threatened about his position, he did keep a safe distance. It wasn't like she'd come up to him offering daisies, after all. Though, that didn't stop Kahanu from being interested in her.

"That side?" Nekali was confused for a moment. "What do ya mean my kind is usually on the other side?" She paused in her stride before laughing out loud. "Ya mean the other trolls? Nah, they are not my kind. Though I suppose I hear some of them look much like myself in certain ways." She tried to be casual about it but if he knew about the trolls across the river, maybe she would be able to ask him about them and potentially find out more! With a toss of her dreads she answered his other question. "Of course we eat meat! It is why I was hunting today... at least I was until all the food got scared away." She smiles toothily as if to say she didn't really mind. Actually, as she thought about it, this wasn't too bad of a prospect as it had been a while since she had a chance to talk with an outsider, the last one had been Hototo who she did not get to talk with much being as he was kept under close watch.
"Where are you from and what are you doing in this neck of the woods?" She could tell he had to have harpy blood in him... or maybe he was one of those hippogryphs some mares had talked about when they gathered in the steam pools. Even still he had a curious look to his coat and the mask he wore was well made. She would love to show it to her sisters who enjoyed spending time in the crafting areas making jewelry. She wasn't too good at crafting herself but her hunting, and skinning, gave her plenty to trade with which helped a lot.
