Canon blinked, surprised at the tactile sensation of hard ground beneath her, rather than the swamp water she preferred. She blinked again, trying to clear away the fog of sleep, when she realized that there really was just fog in front of her. Sitting up, she looked around, peering deep into the surrounding gloom. Where was she? How did she get here?

She spent exactly thirty seconds pondering the answers to those questions, when she abruptly decided it didn't matter at all. This place was...

"Fascinating!"

Time for SCIENCE!

The Skark bounced to her feet, only to hear a sharp crunch beneath her sandal. Lifting her foot away, she briefly examined the small pile of glass shards. Okay, so there was fog, and glass. Was there anything else? Canon searched the area.

A few minutes later, face to the ground and tail creating swirls in the thick fog above her Canon wrapped her antennae around a small orange pumpkin shaped pill. She felt a small thrill of triumph. There was other stuff! She transferred the pill to her hands (such useful appendages), and resumed her search.

A glint of glass caught her eye next, and Canon scurried over towards it. A small vial? Was this the same thing she'd stepped on? She wiggled the vial a little, watching the liquid slosh around inside. It seemed a viable hypothesis!

The vial joined the pumpkin pill as Canon resumed her search. However, her luck seemed to be running out, as it was quite some time before she found the next item, another pumpkin pill. Enthusiasm for searching the area waning, Canon returned her attention to the fog, and anything that might lie beyond it.

Squinting, Canon thought she could make out a patch of the fog that was a little... different than the rest. Brighter maybe? It was hard to tell, but it was the only thing different for 360 degrees. Canon headed towards it, wondering if she'd meet anyone else in this strange place. She wasn't overly concerned on getting out, or if there was danger. Those two items were a low priority, and actually, the little Skark would've welcomed some danger. It would be a nice break to the monotony of the fog.

As the difference became a noticeable light, and the light resolved into two lights, Canon walked toward the warm one.

Almost as if an answer to her wish, a figure suddenly appeared out of the fog, weapon descending... only to freeze. Canon blinked, and a delighted smile spread over her face. No way! A horseman!? Here?!

Fond memories flooded Canon. Memories of a jungle canopy and fierce fighters. She didn't know if this was a War Horseman, but she whipped about and brought her stinger to a standstill in front of the warrior.

"Well met!" she said, gleefully. "Hey, do you know where we are? Oh, you want me to follow you? Where are we going? Are you from the War clan? What's with all this fog? What did you build that fire out of? Your clothes? No, you're still wearing yours. Someone else's, perhaps?"

Canon's questions faded into the fog as she followed the Horseman.

Canon was careful to keep the glow of the horseman's encampment to her back as she ventured back out into the fog. She filled the silence around her by humming the names of her relatives, and kept a sharp eye out for anything interesting. She was glad she'd found the horsemen. Did it mean she might run into some students from Amityville? Maybe she'd run into Riley! Or Shehk!

Canon suddenly caught the sound of... laughter? Perking up, she stared around her into the fog. Heading towards the sound, the fog began to do something. Canon watched, the farther she went into the fog, the more strange shapes began to form. Until she was completely surrounded by a grayscale landscape. Booths and stalls made from fog.

Curiosity ramped up to maximum, Canon broke into a run, eager to see what these new buildings were. She was utterly disappointed when she couldn't touch anything. The fantastically detailed booths were just fog.

As she tried once more to grab one of the items from the booth, the fog suddenly went flying upward. Or was she falling? Yes, she definitely felt like she was falling. With movements like liquid, new forms coalesced in the fog around her, one figure taking center stage.

Canon, paralyzed, tried to make sense of the figure and his demands. She'd stolen something?

"I think you must be mistaken. I haven't had a chance to fight anyone yet! Did you want to spar? What do you mean I stole something? Did the pills belong to you? I can give you the two I found back, but I traded the vial with a horseman, I'm afraid." she replied, attempting to reach for the pills. She was momentarily distracted by trying to figure out what was preventing her from moving. Her body wasn't reacting like it was a poison. Something about the fog, maybe?

"Are you doing this? It's a neat ability! How does it wor-"

Canon's mouth suddenly snapped shut. After a moment of muffled exclamations, she realized the figure was looking at her intently. When she stopped trying to talk, she realized she could open her mouth again.

"Ummmm. Well, I don't know what I took from you, but if I did, I'm sorry." she said, slowly at first as she anticipated being gagged again, but quickly sped back up to normal. "I'll return whatever I took from you."

Canon flexed her fingers as the ability to move was returned to her. The world went white. The figures were gone, and Canon was a little disappointed to see that the booths didn't reappear.

It was interesting, though. She'd agreed to give whatever it was back, but she still had everything on her. Three pills, all her clothing, her hair. She swung her tail around to her front so she could examine it, and expressed a drop of poison to make sure it was still working the way it should.

Everything checked out okay! Thoroughly confused and intrigued, the Skark wandered further into the fog, calling out to see if the figure would suddenly reappear.

A light appeared in front of her, and the sudden babble of voiced reached her. Walking towards it, she made it far enough to see the figure of Bogeymen partoling the perimeter. The Halloween Camp! Canon ran towards the light.

When Frost had woken his sense had been on high alert. There was little he could do, and little he could have done. Claws scratched at the ground and fog wrapped around him. He was alone, lost, and no doubt there were others. Had he'd become infected? Doubtful. But if he had- A shudder. His mind was his own, he had no want to harm those he sought to care for. His first steps in the fog and a broken vial of water. Useless.
A quick search- He needed to find some clue. Something, anything. Once he found a few, (useless) things- A warm light.

At the discovery of horsemen, the wolfos had sneered, quickly turning from them. He had no desire to consort with their lot, edge of this world or not. They were not to be trusted, especially not when they apparently had ties to this place. No, he'd take his luck, as poor as it was, and be on his way. Pride, his vice, his sin.

Friends in shadows, in shapes, the wolfos growled at the hunter. "You ask who I fight for, yet you stand to block me from them." The figure was confusing. "I have no quarrel with you and your's. Leave me and mine be. Their choices.. are and will always be their own, even if I find such choices highly foolish." Ice and snow flecked off from his tail, fading quickly into the greys of the world. "But I am not unreasonable either. Though I know not what you seek-..." He huffed, looking at his friends. If they were even real or not, even if they would not meet his face- "I will attempt to find what you have lost, naturally, for their freedom." His bargain, his deal.

White. Such a pure color, his color. A comfort. A truer comfort as he came across the boogeymen, the staff, the students. Relief, pure and simple. Sitting just outside of the tent, he let himself relax a bit. Finally.

Finally, something he knew.

Just as she'd re-entered the fog, the Skark noticed something that was an even brighter white than the fog. She felt a surge of excitement.

"Time for SCIENCE!" she yelled, and ran over to investigate, certain that the fog had yielded another mystery for her to research. Except, that when she came up to it, it was surprising solid. Just to be sure, she buried her fingers in its hair. No, it was solid. And soft!

"Hi! Are you a student?" she asked the canine figure. "I thought you might be part of the fog."

Ears flicked up at the sound of another student. Or, what he assumed to be a student. A slight color had him relax, the ghoul, (was it a ghoul? Always so difficult to be sure), mostly grey. "I am afraid I am not much of science." She was touchy feel-y, and he leaned into it as said touch went by his ears. Still, this was not time for pets or ear scratches. This was a time for calculated actions.
Getting up, Frost dusted himself off, tail flicking off bits of snow and ice. "I am indeed a student though. Frost in the Storm, Knob. Though it's more Frost in the Fog at the moment." Arms crossed as he debated what he wanted to do. In the distance, laughter, music, red eyes went to the ghoul. "If you're alone it might be safer to go with another. I've actually been hoping to run into a friend but-" His head tilted to the noise. "If you're keen to venture out I'd feel better with some company of any sort."

"Everything is science." Canon assured him cheerily, taking a step backwards as he got up. He was taller than she was, a difference the Skark was used to. (If anything, she was thrilled to be taller than her natural two feet.) She did wish he was a bit shorter so she could watch his ears move when he talked. In a sudden fit of inspiration, she held her hands to the top of her head, and swiveled them in tandem with Frost's, face scrunched in concentration. This was serious research.

She immediately dropped her hands, though, when he introduced himself. Grinning happily, she bowed to him, and then swiped at him with her tail, intentionally missing.

"Well met! I'm Canon Indy. I just transferred to Amityville, and I would be honored to be your comrade!" she said sincerely. Hand-ears momentarily forgotten in favor of a larger puzzle, Canon turned to regard the fog. After a few seconds of brow furrowed consideration, the Skark brightened again, and pointed in an arbitrary direction into the fog.

"That way?" she asked, looking to her new comrade in arms.

Canon ran a few steps into the fog, and suddenly...

She was kneeling, and her hands were applying pressure to a wound. What? The Skark blinked, but refrained from pulling away in confusion. Who was this?

Her antennae reached out towards the figure, trying to identify them, and her red eye peered intently. To no avail, the fog obscured all save the tactile sensation of vital fluids leaking through her fingers.

"Are you a comrade?" she asked, and listened for an answer. Only ragged breathing replied. The Skark was stymied, but she soon settled on studying the wound. Her eye closed, Canon ran her antennae gently around her hands into the wound, testing. After a few moments, she lifted her head, mouth pursed thoughtfully. The wound was mortal. She was certain of that. She didn't know who this was, so she had two options. She could use a pumpkin pill to try and heal them, or she could give them a painless death.

Seconds ticked by as Canon weighed the options. Finally, the Skark lifted her tail, and swiftly stabbed it into the wound, injecting a lethal amount of poison. One that would knock them unconscious instantly and bring death swiftly. The figure tensed, and then... relaxed. The flow fluids slowed, then stopped, and Canon stood up. She bowed to the figure.

"I don't know who you were, but you must have taken that wound in battle. Go to your rest. You fought well."

She turned to walk away, and suddenly...

She was just a few steps away from Frost. Canon blinked. She felt.. different. Had something happened? She whirled to look back into the fog in confusion. A flicker caught her eye, and she turned to it, but nothing revealed itself. She couldn't shake the sudden feeling that she was being watched, though.

'Everything was science'? That was... a good motto really. Science was a refined thing, and it provided some answers to a great many things. A worthy endeavor. Hand ears didn't bother him, but rather earned a small smile. A curious action, but slightly endearing for reasons he was not entirely sure of. "While a bit of a poor welcome to our school, I assure you that it's not always this volatile. It's usually... much more peaceful and normal than all this. Less fog as well." His tail gave a flick as her tail missed him. She was spirited wasn't she?

Moving, he felt a sudden worry, a pressing need, a scent of death encroaching, the feeling of blood, hot and warm running over his hands. How it happened he didn't recall, he didn't know, but the figure under him was fighting to live. Not dissipate, struggling to cling to where they were. Even with his hand over the wound, Frost felt a sense of dread as he felt the size and depth of the gash.

A killing blow, their fear no doubt draining fast. Their breathing was pained, labored, and his heart felt colder, numbness filling him. "Forgive, I have not the skill to save you, nor will simple fear give you the aid you need." Claws found flesh, a throat, soft and easy to crush and tear. Rending, he felt the warmth under his claws. Rushing up, fading. He'd ended their suffering. Once done-

Nothing.
Canon was waiting for him and he gave her a curious glance. "How queer. This place- I lost sight of you for but a moment yet then found myself with a dying figure. Perhaps this place seeks to keep people alone. Mark them as better prey?"

Sniffing the air, he caught wind of something- "Come though, if my nose does not lie, there is something in the distance."

"Ooo, what is it? What do you smell?" Canon asked, immediately refocusing on Frost. "Skarks don't have a good sense of smell."

She pointed to the lack of nose on her face, and the breathing holes at her clavicle, which contracted and expanded regularly with her breath. Presence in the fog momentarily ignored, she drew closer to Frost and peered up into his nostrils. She considered sticking a finger into one of them, but decided that whatever it was Frost was smelling was the more immediate priority.

"Where is it? This way?" she asked, following his line of sight. Not really waiting for a reply, she scampered off into the fog, and...

Suddenly, she was in a kitchen. Wide-eyed, she stared around, and then back into the fog for Frost.

"Frost? Is this what you smelled?" she called to her comrade. It occurred to her that she might be alone again, but it felt different this time. More like the time she'd run into the booths and strange figure.
