Stellar's Jay
There is typically one with a hurt foot that hangs around. Other times it's a group of three or four. They love almonds. The one with the hurt foot is very friendly. If they know I'm home, they'll squawk until I go out and feed them.

Wow, what a great photo. heart I had never seen a Stellar's Jay. I'm glad to know it's friendly even though it looks mean.

I haven't taken pictures of the birds I've seen. I have however written them down when I've seen them. I will include pictures (collected from the web whee ) so visualization is easier and a link when possible for all of those who are interested in learning. whee

These are the birds I see almost every day. They are quite common for me; so from here on I will only add to the list whenever I see a new bird.

The majority of these birds were spotted on last Thursday (Thursday October 11)

I included the binomial name when I couldn't find a useful link for them. So that if any of you are interested you can look them up.

There are a few others that I've seen and heard that I haven't been able to identify. I suppose I will save those for another day. wink

Wow! What a variety you have. I really like the Smooth-Billed Ani. Hahaha, I played the typical voice and Bones is looking around for a bird.

I slept in an hour later than normal (9am instead of 8am) and there was a jay outside waiting for food. I fed him and EIGHT more showed up. It was quite the sight.

I also have chestnut backed chickadees arrive. I bought a new food with all nuts and seeds - cashews, almonds, shelled sunflowers. The chickadees love it.

I took a crappy video of the jays this afternoon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qN8speeX9o

Went out again to feed them. The jays came back, had the chickadees and a sparrow.

AND, a whisky jack! It came down and said hi and landed on my hand to grab some nuts. The jays saw the Whisky Jack eat from my hand and they were like "You can do that?!". The chickadees were zipping around and one landed on my head!

Not a bird, but the squirrel is hilarious. It comes up within inches and the runs off, up the tree and squeaks at me. Rinse, repeat.

Two Whisky Jacks now! Over a dozen Steller's Jays as well. My bedroom window looks onto the back deck and there's a tree that one jay will sit on and watch me get up. I get dressed, and come down stairs and I can see them sitting in the trees waiting to be fed. When I open the door, they fly closer and by the time I'm putting food on the railing, they're squawking and carrying on. Nubbies, the one legged jay, knows me and I'll make sure he gets ample almonds and other nuts. I wish the Whisky Jack's would come more regularly as they have a pretty call. Can't wait until it gets colder and the bears go hibernate and I'll put out suet and nyjer for the chickadees and sparrows.

Not bird related, but the squirrel we have is getting more friendly. She still won't come too close, but she doesn't run away. She'll come up within a few feet and I'll put a nut down for her and she'll run up grab it and run off.

Still mostly Stellar's Jays here. Just over two dozen now.

A spotted towhee stopped by on Sunday! I was really excited! I also had a mystery bird sitting high on top of a tree. It few off before I could grab my binoculars to identify it. It might have been a thrush or a flicker because it had a very long beak.

I have four whisky jacks. They'll all eat right out of my hand. The Steller's were all "YOU CAN DO THAT?!?!?" and they were wanting the food on my hands but were too timid to go for it. One jay did the quick land but flew away right away.

I bought a bird feeder, but the jays still picked it clean. I'll be exchanging it for one that I can weight myself. Jays are 4oz and the towhee and the rest are well under that. I want the smaller birds to be able to get some food too.

A King Parrot whom I've dubbed "pretty-birdy" - a name that when called he flies down and sits on my chair behind me.

Note to self... NEVER hit the backspace button. crying

Hello Pirhan. I'm so sorry for replying and posting so late. The notices from the Bird Corner must have gotten lost in a sea of notices. I dropped by out of curiosity because I honestly thought no one had posted here in a very long item and noticed all your posts. redface

I saw the video and the links to all the birds you posted. It looks like you live in a very beautiful place with great variety in birds. An idyllic place I'd say. Birds, trees and the Travelocity gnome saying "mountain air". All joking aside, it looks like you live in a beautiful place.

I had never seen or heard any of the birds you mentioned. I've seen some in movies but never in person.

I too have had my share of mystery birds. I just can't seem to identify them. I don't know if they're here for the winter season or if they're relocating. It sounds highly unlikely, but I believe anything is possible in nature. whee

I did however identify one of those mystery birds. I have been seeing it for the past year or so. I had mentioned it to my professor and he identified it for me. Upon further research, I realized it had been misidentified. I don't blame him though. All he had to go by was my amateurish attempt at identification.

So without further ado, here he is in all his glory.
