What did everyone think of The Will of the Empress? I personally liked it a lot. The dedication of the book gave me warm fuzzies. Actually, the ending did too.

I don't remember the dedication of the book. sweatdrop I did like the ending; I was glad that the circle was reforged.

At the beginning of the book, I was curious about the other tagalong Briar and Rosethorn picked up during their travels. There was Evvy, but then there was also her companion, a silent something or other (I think his name was Luvo). They never even s[pecified whether he was human, and something about his brief description made me feel he might not be (or if he is, he's a seriously screwed up human).

I didn't read the dedication....
However, I really liked The Will of the Empress. It put a smile on my face. I made the mistake of reading the excerpt on Pierce's website and went about moping till the book to come out. But I am happy to say, it was everything advertised and more.

I hate to say it, but them fighting and slowly pulling back together made me like them more - made them more real to me. Plus a bickering Briar and Tris is always amusing.

We'll find out more about Luvo in Melting Stones and the currently untitled Yanjing book. "...the companion Evvy met while she, Rosethorn, and her former teacher Briar were traveling in distant Yanjing, Luvo, a being who is best described as a walking, intelligent rock."

For some reason, Luvo is reminding me of Tkaa, from the Immortals quartet. I'm not sure why, because I know Luvo is probably not anything like a basilisk, per se. It sounds interesting though. However, I'm looking forward to the forthcoming book about Tris, more.

Yeah, I saw that too maybe five minutes after I made the original post, but I never bothered to go back and edit it. Guess I should've. sweatdrop

Now that you said that, I can't help but wonder what would happen if Tkaa made the mistake of trying to eat Luvo. xp

I like Will of the Empress it was a good book the best out of all the Emelan books. The only things I didn't like was Daja being lesbian and Briar being like a total somewhat player. It just didn't seem right oh yeah and the whole Lark and Rosethorn thing ewww.../ But beside those it was really good.

The Daja thing was somewhat unexpected, but you could see Briar being girl-obsessed coming in Street Magic. And we are given a reason for it: he's afraid to be alone.

you do have a point about Briar but I always thought maybe he would come around and stop thinking of Sandry as a sister and more as I don't know a wife but I guess I was wrong. But Daja was completely uncalled for and I don't think there's any other reason, I really think these books could harm a little girls(or boys but i don't think many read Tamora Pierce) mind.

It depends on the kid, really, but I will say this. I ran across my first gay scene when I was maybe twelve or so (and very naive), and it didn't register as two guys about to make love, because I had never been exposed to anything of the sort before. I don't think it'll have any ill effect on kids, though it may bring up some questions. xp
