Frite paused, one foot half in the air, her ears cocked to the side. She could have sworn she'd heard something, but then she never was the go to lion for sounds. Ever since her encounter as a cub, her hearing had never been the same. There was always a slight ringing, or random bouts of entire silence. She could never predict exactly when they'd happen but they did and they always seem to happen at the most inappropriate times. This was likely one of those times, but the odd thing was, she thought she'd actually heard something. Not a strange ring, or deafening silence, but a NOISE. Looking around her surroundings though there was nothing, just trees upon trees. Taking the jungle might not have been her safest route, but it was the shadiest and that was always a plus for her. She loved the shade, it was so cool and calming, rather than the stifling heat of the rogue lands. Here, she only had to watch her step for potential pride borders. Everything else, she was capable of handling. Shrugging off her supposed noise, she calmly placed her paw back on the ground. Though she was going to attempt to convince herself it was all in her head, she had no way of guaranteeing it. She would simply have to push on and ignore her own thoughts. Which at some points, could be pretty hard to do. Especially now, as the idea of a sound began to cloud her thoughts, she couldn't help but think back to the male who had saved her so long ago. What would he do if he were here now? No doubt he would save her again! He was her hero, and heroes were always there for their damsels in distress. Right? Yes! Right! Now if only she could find him, then she'd never have to worry about these creepy forests again. He would take her under his paw and keep her safe from all the dangers of the world. Just like he had when she was a cub.

Today, she decided, was an excellent day to be exploring. If you've seen one savanah you've seen them all. Zenobia was looking for adventure. What better place to find it than in a jungle? All sorts of weird and wild things lurked here. There was plenty of places for things and animals to hide. Plus it was impossibly cooler than a savanah. Maybe that had something to do with her choice too. She grinned.
The pale lioness was in a fine mood today. She'd already watched one startling colored bird preforming a mating dance. While she had been impressed by it, the local lady-birds had not. She felt bad for the little male. When she spotted he had a collection of stuff, Zenobia took a moment to find something that matched and left it for him. Maybe that would help him win the next female to fly by.
She hummed happily to herself, nosing aside green branches. Surely the next exciting thing was right around this next trunk.

There it was again, a soft humming noise! This time she for sure hadn't been hearing things! There was definitely something sneaking around humming! Well, if that was truly the case, Frite would find them, and confront them about it. Which typically meant, she would find them and compliment them on their talent. She just couldn't do the mean thing, she didn't have the heart. It seemed like every time she tried, her own heart broke in place of her victim's and she hated it.
The humming got louder the further she walked, almost as though it were walking right beside her.
Wait? Was it?
Looking to her left, she saw nothing but layers of grass and debris, but to her right was a large, thick trunked tree. Could someone be on the other side of it? Just as oblivious to her as she was to them? There was only one way to find out.
Leaping as far as she could around the tree, she landed nimbly on her paws behind a white patch of fur.
"Ah-hah! There was someone humming! I knew it!"
Her words were yelled, between rough huffs of air as she tried to regain a steady rhythm of breathing. She loved being excited, and jumping out of nowhere had certainly given her that bit of excitement that she'd been missing lately.

While Zeno had been looking for adventure, she hadn't expected it to come looking for her. She was admitedly surprised when from the corner of her eye she spotted movement. Something large, and colorful, leaped out behind her and yelled at the top of its lungs. The pale lioness spun around to see who exactly had found her, with a laugh.
"Aye. I was humming and you've caught me!" She grinned as she looked over the scarred lioness who was the source of the yelling. "Pleased you have found me. I'm Zenobia. Looks like I was right to come to the jungle today. It certainly is lively isn't it?"

Frite retreated back to her younger days as a cub, the days before her accident. Her butt wriggled, and her tail swished back and forth playfully. "I knew I heard someone humming! At first I thought it was my bad ears, but then it kept happening! You almost got away from me, but I still found you!" She giggled in pure glee, rolling onto her back and flipping her paws excitedly in the air. Were it not for her size, she easily could have been confused for a cub. "I'm Frite, its good to have met you Zenobia!" A giggle snort escaped her as she tried to regain her composure by rising to her paws once more. "You DEFINITELY did!" Frite bellowed happily, "But then, the jungle is lively every day, you just have to be in the right place at the right time!" Frite began nodding her head enthusiastically at Zenobia's words. "So what brings you out here today? Are you on some super secret mission for a pride? Oh I bet you are! I bet they sent you because you look so pretty and innocent. No male would ever mistake you for a spy!" Frite stifled her laughter with her paw before continuing. "I'm only kidding, I think ... But if you are a spy, that's pretty cool!"

Zenobia gave a delighted laugh at the female's happiness. She bounced on her front paws in response to the butt wiggles. While she was an older lioness, she still had some spunk in her. "I didn't think someone might hear me and come looking for me." She gave a purr. "You did well to track me."
"Well met Frite!" Her eyes crinkled as she laughed softly with the lioness. Ears flicked as she continued. "Ah! I wish I'd know that sooner. I would have come here more often. Then I think today I was definately in the right place at the right time." A delighted laugh escaped her.
"Oh I wish it was that exciting, but I fear I'm an old lioness. I don't really belong to a pride, but a loose coalition of lions, cheetahs, leopards, and the resulting cubs." She smiled, thinking of her own cubs. Zeno gave another purr as Frite said she was pretty and innocent. "I was realy just looking for some fun Frite. Would you care to have some with me?" Exploring with this lively companion would be much more entertaining than alone.

She was trying to contain herself, now being an adult she wasn't supposed to be as silly as she was at times. But she couldn't help it, she'd never been able to hold in what others considered rude behavior. This is who she was, and if others couldn't accept that, then why were they around her?
"OH! Well you don't look old to me, i've seen old and you're nothing like they were!" Fritoe quickly covered her mouth with her paws once again. "Not that I mean any disrespect towards the elderly or anything!" Shaking her head quickly, she hoped Zenobia wouldn't take her words that way.
"A coalition huh? I don't know what that is, but it still sounds kinda spy-ish! I'll have to keep an eye on you Zenobia!" With a sly little wink Frite continued on.
"Hmmm fun does sound fun ... but I should be getting back to my search...." The poor girl was torn, she could either go out and find her protector or have some fun with an older lioness, who could possibly provide her with protection.
"Alright Zenobia, i'll join you for a little while! What exactly did you have in mind?"

She gave an understanding grin. "It's alright. Sometimes I don't act as old as I am." Zeno said the last in a conspiratory whisper. "I only hope I can someday reach that happy age." Now she considered how best to describe the close connection the group had. If it hadn't been for Athena none of them could have ever met or stayed together. in fact some of the members would never have been born.
"It's an open group. We can come and go as we like, and we're not tied down to any one place like a pride. We roam a lot, unless a female is going to birth, then we find a really nice spot. Once the cubs are old enough then we're off again." She laughed and nodded. "I understand Frite. Wise of you not to take me at my word." She gave a playful wink back.
"Oh? If you trust me enough that I'm not spying on your research. Might you tell me what it is?" Zeno flicked her ears forward. She was curious why the other lioness was here. The pale lioness was pleased when Frite agreed to join her. "Nothing particularly. Just nosing through the jungle waiting for things to jump out at me," she laughed heartily. As Frite as actually jumped out at her. "Anything interesting from the direction you came? Or we can try a new direction." She left it up to the other.

Frite had taken a seat while her new found friend went into a description of where exactly she came from. "Oh that makes sense! I bumped into a pride not too long ago that had some rules like that. Though they were slightly different..." Gazing off into the distance she changed her mind all together. "No never mind, they're nothing alike." She shook her head fervently as though trying to convince herself of that thought.
Catching Zeno's glance out of the corner of her eye, Frite flashed her a toothy grin and bounced up in excitement. "Of course I can trust you! Though - you can't tell ANYONE. Except the one i'm talking about - if you see him you can tell him!" With a somewhat stern expression, Frite looked into Zeno's eyes and realized she made no sense.
"Oh right I guess it makes sense if I tell you huh? Well let's walk and talk! We'll kill two bird with one stone! Speaking of which - is that even possible? Like if I threw a rock, could I actually kill two birds with it?!"
Now completely off track, Frite led Zeno in the opposite direction of their meeting, there was nothing of interest back there, except perhaps their trails. But who would be interested in those?

Depawsit If you'd like to do a wrap up post we can cal this done. <3 For a moment Zeno thought Frite might have actually run into their group and she just hadn't known about it. "Oh. That's too bad. If you'd ever like to stop by and meet us you'd be welcome to."
"I'm glad you think so, and I promise not to tell anyone but him," she laughingly agreed to the request. Zeno was more than willing to stroll and talk. She followed along and watched the scenery.
"Hmmmm good question. I don't see why its not possible, though I've never heard of anyone doing so. It would probably take some really good aim and a bit of luck."

Frite's heart skipped a beat at the invitation to meet Zeno's family. "You mean it?! I'd love to meet your family some day Zeno, you all sound so interesting!" She let out her childish laugh and darted ahead of the lioness, but still staying within earshot and eye sight. "Ok OK then i'll tell you all about him, I bet you'll like him as much as I do after I tell you all about him." Bouncing on her own heels, Frite thought on Zeno's statement a moment before continuing on with her own story. "So it all started when I was a cub ...."Still walking slightly ahead of her new found friend, Frite continued her tale of heroism and searching, completely at ease for the time being.
