It was later in the afternoon and a little brisk for that day. Conrad's nose was already a bright red against the cold. He had been running errands since the early morning, having taken this day to do his shopping and visit his folks after. Since he had started to dorm at Tidal Heights, things were just that much more complicated, but he pushed through it as best he could. Conrad shifted his grey eyes around, wondering what time the bus was come and if it was worth it to wait in the cold. He wished he had a scarf, but his small pocket change wouldn't allow frivolous spending when he had some at home. He sighed, leaving the comfort of the store to only be confronted with the neighborhood bullies. If he had just been a little bit taller, maybe they would have left him alone, but now they were heckling him. "Just leave me alone..." He felt smaller than he was, just hoping the bus would get here and they would leave him alone.

This was not the first time Zandre had wandered off somewhere she wasn't familiar, but it was the first time she'd ever really went somewhere new completely alone. Much as she was a very open minded person, Zandre was also a socialite and being alone was in her mind the most dull, dreary, BORING thing to ever have to be put through. She had already meandered her way through five different clothing shops, and had over a dozen new outfits to wear, all tightly packed into four shopping bags. Next she was thinking shoes, or possibly some hair extensions. One could never have enough hair extensions. She hadn't quite made up her mind as she rounded a corner and came across a group of boys. she paused, watching them only a moment before she got the jest of what was going on here. Frowning, she started forward, her back straight and her eyes fierce even though she kept a pleasant expression on her face. Bullies, you could practically smell them if you knew what you were looking for. She got around to where they were all facing, a poor boy who looked more like an abused puppy then any boy aught to. "And jus' what do you think y'all are doing?" She barked, her voice whip like in it's striking force. She scooted around the bigger men, then waved her bags at them. "Y'all should be ashamed of yourselves! Stop looming over people like you all something special, and get back to your alleys, you lot of gutter rats!" She struck at them again with her bags, her eyes livid. She wasn't going to stop until the whole lot of them scurried off, and though she wasn't that big herself, she'd grown up taking care of guys bigger then these.

The group scoffed, brushing past the boy as they left. Conrad had his eyes dead set on the ground, upset that someone had to rescue him like that. After a moment of composing himself, he looked up to his savior. "Thank you." He spoke out confidently, "But I think I could have handled that on my own." He leaned back against a pole, giving a sigh of relief. "Then again, I probably wouldn't have come out unharmed...."
After a moment of mulling over his choice, he set down his bags. "I'm Conrad." He offered her his hand, even though she was carrying bags of her own. "Sorry we had to meet in this circumstance...." He felt like less of a man already. "But what's you're name?"

"Hun, don't matter if you could have handled it yourself." Zandre huffed, watching the boys until they left. Her eyes brightened as she looked toward Conrad, her face breaking into a warm and welcoming smile. "Bullies need to be taught what it's like to be ganged up on. Not so much fun, and them just a bunch of cowards at that." She shook her head, then brushed her bangs out of her eyes to look at Conrad a bit closer.
"Isn't anything to apologize for. Not your fault the sewer seems to be overflowing and letting its stank out where everyone else has to deal with it. Besides, I'd have run into you sooner or later." Zandre laughed and set her things down at her feet, taking Conrad's hand in a firm and tight handshake. "My name is Zandre Lilith Rosetta, but my friends call me Zan. Or sometimes zanny, but that's more my personality then my name." She laughed, flashing Conrad a grin.

Conrad could see that this girl was very outgoing. He was glad that those guys left. That girl probably would have fought them all off. He laughed at her little joke and shook his head. "Yeah, those guys were scum, huh?" He shook her hand vigorously. "Zandra..." He smiled, picking up his bags and leaning up against a pole, letting out a sigh of relief. "What do you mean by we would have run into each other sooner or later?" He looked the girl up and down for a moment. "I don't recognize you or anything.... And you couldn't possibly go to my school." There wasn't room for girls in an all boys school. Then it wouldn't have been and all boys school. Conrad shook his head, clearing his thoughts. "Could I have possibly met you before?" He tried to think hard about it. "Now I'm just confused..." He sighed again, looking at the girl for answers.

Zandra winked at Conrad, holding up a finger. "This place aint big enough to hide a cutie like you away forever." She teased, laughing a bit. "So even if we hadn't met today and in this way, I'd have ended up meeting you sooner or later in a store or at the mall, or whatever have you." She waved a hand as if to dismiss the idea, then grabbed her own bags.
"I might be new to the area now, but I'm going to get this place mapped out and stored away in my head in no time at all. Aint no where those bullies will be able to hide from me, so they best be mindin' their actions." She gave a nod before looking Conrad over closely for the first time. "You're a bit dainty for a dude, you travel out alone a lot?" She inquired bluntly. "You should be careful, what with thugs like that around. There is always safety in numbers, after all. Come on, I'll walk you home, and you can help watch my back too, alright?"

His cheeks turned a slight pink when she teased him. Would they really have met sooner or later? "This city isn't that mall." He frowned, looking at the girl. "Even if it were just a glance, we probably wouldn't have spoken to each other." He laughed, "Well, I think you would still talk to me actually. You just seem like that kind of person."
He remembered when he had just moved here. The city seemed like a maze. Now he had a handle on it. More or less. Her next comment made him flush red with embarrassment as he furrowed his brow. "I am not dainty... I just haven't hit my growth spurt." He stood up as tall as he could, but he just didn't seem to make it past 5'3". "I travel alone all the time. If I need to get somewhere, I go. I can't rely on someone all the time." But she was right, saftey in numbers. "How about we grab something to eat on the way to my house? I'm sure my mom could give you a ride from there. And while we walk, I can show you the city." He smiled up at Zandra, his cheeks still a little red.

Zandre smiled brightly as she watched Conrad try to puff himself up in a way that reminded her greatly of her nan's Pomeranian when it was faced with her pitbull, Nymaria. Silly thing that it was, it always seemed to think it had to fight anything bigger then itself, which was fine since Nymaria was the gentlest dog Zandre had ever known. Still, it did cause quite a scene and she was certain this little man could cause quite a scene too, if given the chance.
She watched him blush, and she couldn't stop herself from throwing one arm around Conrad's shoulder, her heavy bags not seeming to hinder her movements at all as she pulled him closer to herself. "Aww, ain't you jus' adorable?!" She squeeled, grinning. "If you insist, I'm never one to turn down company. And you're right, I never pass up a chance to introduce myself to someone." She rambled on, waving one arm around at the place. "There are so many new places to see here, and so many new people to meet. I can't wait to get started!" She laughed, before turning her warm eyes back to Conrad. "So what brings you out today? I've got to accessorize before school. Can't look like some newbie in town, even if I am you know?"
She held up her bags, winking. "If you're good, I'll give you a sneak peek." She teased, before laughing and wandering a few steps ahead of him. "But I totally think you have the right idea. I need to get something to eat. I am starving!" She paused, as if realizing how much she was talking, and she glanced at him with another grin. "Where should we go?"

Conrad was caught of guard when Zandre threw her arm over his shoulder. "You don't have to mock me.." He tried to shrug off her arm, but he was still determined to help her. She had rescued him after all, even though that hurt his manhood. Being called adorable wasn't manly either, but he got that more often than being save by anyone. "I'll show you great places." He nodded confidently. He thought a moment before answering her next question. "Just getting some essentials to take back to the dorm. I might visit my family while I'm out too." He shrugged a bit. "The least I can do I guess." He laughed at himself, thinking that it would be odd not to try and visit family when you had the chance.
He immediately turned pink again when she mentioned giving him a sneak peek. Was this some sort of movie or something? He decide if it was playful teasing or... Well, he didn't know what to think. He shook his head, sighing a moment. "There's a nice sandwich shop around here somewhere." He looked around, straining to see a street sign. "I think it's just down the street."

Zandre nodded, looking a bit contemplative. "Alright, I can totally go for sandwiches." She agreed. She'd have to try and remember the way, incase she liked the place. As it was right then, Zandre barely remembered how she'd gotten to where she was NOW. But thats what GPS was for, right? So as long as he phone had a charge, she was good. She fell into step with Conrad, blinking her warm eyes at him again as she once more looked him over. She almost wanted to count the freckles that were splashed over his face, and she couldn't help wondering if the rest of his body was covered in the same. She didn't even feel fazed at all by where her train of thought went to, since it wasn't like she was being pervy or gross, just curious. She'd had a friend when she was younger whose whole body had been speckled, and Zandre had always thought of the girl as being so pretty. Still, she kept her thoughts to herself. "Do you go to this place often?" She inquired as they walked.

Conrad walked beside Zandre, cheeks still flushed from the embarrassment. Or was it the cold? He rounded a corner, making sure she was still in step with him. He couldn't help but think that she might be analyzing him. It made him a little angry. Just what was she looking at? What was she analyzing. Everyone could tell he was short, maybe she was stuck on that.
He looked up at her, a frown on his now red face from his thoughts. He could just blame it on the cold. "I go here whenever I visit my family." He looked down the street. "Well, I try to anyway. At most maybe two times a month." They neared the shop and he pointed at it, "Look, we're almost there." He stated mildly.

Zandre couldn't help but notice the flushed appearance Conrad had, and it put an almost 'cat-ate-canary' grin on her face. Was he so innocent that her teasing and visual scrutiny had made him that uncomfortable? She looked away from him to survey their surroundings as Conrad talked about visiting his family. "Only visiting twice a month must be hard...My ma and I talk all the time, when she aint working and I don't have school stuff to do." She interjected, glancing at him and noticing his frown.
Tilting her head, she met and held his gaze as he pointed out the shop. She must have said something that bothered him, given the slightly sullen look on his face. Zandre never really gave much thought to how other people took her, so she was liable to over step boundaries much better left uncrossed.
"Hey, I didn't mean to insinuate you couldn' take those guys back there." She offered, thinking that might be why Conrad was slightly down. "I jus' know that one person can't do much against a mob, but at least with two people, you have someone to stand against those coming for your back." She stopped walking, holding out her hand to him with a more sincere smile then she'd had on to this point. "Friends do that, watching your back and jumpin' in where they don't belong, ya know? So, friends?"
