Introductory Event

When the already-paired dolphins of the new Tri-Lakes Pod arrived, they brought with them the unpaired from the original Malvren pod along with many new dolphins gathered during the long trip from Malvren to Trine. Four dolphins offered themselves to be paired with human partners right from their arrival. Two went to the Journeymen Dolphineers Talakor and Kala, but the other two have yet to find Journeymen partners.

The two dolphins above are the other two dolphins looking for partners and they are yours for the taking. The dolphin on the left is a female, the one on the right is a male. For this event, you will be writing brief descriptions of both the dolphin you would like and the human partner they will eventually have. This means you do not need an approved character to participate, but should you win the contest you will need to create a character application for the pair.

Things to consider while writing the human: Why did your character become a dolphineer? What's their basic personality? Why did they choose to side with the Resistance, essentially abandoning their chance to become a Dolphineer, rather than staying at Malvren? (Other than that, consider the usual character application sections.) Please Note: The human you are making is one of the refugees from Malvren. New recruits from the area/Weyr will be accepted once this event is over.

Things to consider while writing the dolphin: Are they from the Malvren Pod or did they join along the way? Why are they interested in taking on a human partner? Will there be any kind of compatibility issues between this dolphin and his/her human partner? Those writing for the female may want to consider why she wanted to be paired with a human partner from the female perspective. Note: Female dolphin partners will be rare, as most choose to stay with their pods and breed rather than take on the long-term job of partner to a dolphineer.



This event will run from now, October 8, to 11:59pm EST on October 13.

Rules:
- You may only win ONE dolphin from this contest.
- Any forms submitted after the closing time will not be considered.
- If you get a dolphin, I hope you'll be active! There are future events planned for which many dolphineers will be needed. Besides, isn't it more fun when there are more people to roleplay with?

EDIT: AN IMPORTANT REMINDER- Dolphins DO have a naming scheme. Dolphin names are generally taken from Old Earth words/places/names AND/OR are short names often times with double letters, such as 'Phro,' 'Allo,' or 'Dorre.' Please keep this naming scheme in mind in your applications!

Personality: Felix loves to play the hero. He believes that as he was once saved, so he should save others. His problem is a certain blindness to the fact that most people don't actually need the theatrical heroics he tends to provide. There's little anyone can do to stop him. His bubble is firmly in place and no one's popped it yet.
He'll offer advice for anything and everything, even if he actually has no idea what's going on. Why wouldn't people be thankful for his insight and wisdom? His easy confidence in himself means he hardly gets his feather's ruffled. You don't like him or what he said? Whatever, it's your loss. He's sincerely sorry you're not smart enough to recognize help when it's offered. He's not about to shove it down your throat if you won't listen (yes he will).
He's very laid back and accepting generally. It's hard to get on his bad side. He doesn't blame others for their own faults and will for the most part forgive transgressions. There are exceptions to every rule, but for Felix they are few and far between. Even the wherhandlers have been forgiven. He knows they had their reasons even if he didn't agree with their methods. Desperation does strange things to people. It's not their fault. If they'd just sat and listened to him this might have been avoided though.
BRIEF History: Felix hails from a small fishing family at Namor Hold. As a young boy, his father's fishing vessel was flipped in a freak out of season storm. Both father and son were saved by dolphins, and since them Felix has had a distinct interest in the marine mammals. A few turns later he traveled to Malvren's Dolphin Hall and began his apprenticeship.
When the Revolution struck Felix was one of those who dove into action. He joined the rescue parties to smuggle Weyr loyalists out of Malvren and to the relative safety of the Dolphin Hall. He bears faint scars of his efforts but was able to escape serious harm.
When Malvren fell Felix faced a hard desicion. He'd yet to bond with a dolphin partner, and leaving the Hall might mean never doing so. Those who stayed at the Hall were there to protect Malvren's holds, he could do little there unbonded but his strength might be put to use protecting the fleeing refugee's on their journey. It wasn't an easy decision to make but Felix's gut told him moving south was the right one.
Other: Some call him lucky, he just shrugs. If you're good to Pern, she tends to be good back. (Trusts his gut instincts)
OOC: His appearance is flexible in the end, but I'd like him to have a stylized dolphin tattoo on his scalp (see Image) Done by a friend with a fair hand in a very painful experiment with dye and needlethorn. He also has a collection of piercings (also negotiable) One in each eyebrow, one lip and one septum. He also has a few rings in each ear.
Dolphin's Name: Nomah (shifted from Earth's Multnomah)
Personality: (Potential compatibility issues would go here) Nomah is just a young rogue looking for adventure. The yet-to-be-formed Tri-Lakes Pod swam through his waters not long after he left his own pod and it sounded like just the thing to do now that he was an adolescent on his own.
He's daring and enthusiastic. If there's a job that needs doing ask him he'd be GLAD to help! If the bell rings he'll be sure to be one of the first dolphins back-tailing up to the dock. While Felix might be doing things out of a sense of his own importance, Nomah does it because he liked to help and feel useful. Similar yes, but there is a difference.
Nomah doesn't like to be left alone. He works better when he has a partner or group to work with. It's part of his interest in making the Pact with a Dolphineer.
Reason For Joining the Tri-Lakes Pod/traveling to Trine: Adventure/ new things/ new ladies. He was picked up along the way from a band of unattached males, the idea of new waters and the ability to start a whole new pod drew Nomah's attention.
