Things had been busy..and hectic and all around completely out of whack. The gather had been fun but Mercy was rather glad it was over - although you wouldn't know it by the crowds that still choked the walkways, she supposed that was just part of living with so many riders and dragons in one Weyr. A small part of her mind was worried about this crush, disease and infections just loved this sort of thing - but that was just her previous life talking. Working with a healer made one a bit paranoid about that sort of thing.

In any case while she still felt like a bit of an outsider in Trine she was determined to try and fit in as best she could, to find a place to belong just as she and Aerith had managed to do in Malvren and so she had called a Weyrling lesson - everyone was likely still recovering from the gather and rest itself could be hard to come by with so many people stomping around but it was important to get the Weyrlings back on track.

They were growing far to fast and their lessons had already been interrupted more then enough by recent events - soon they would be flying and then joining wings. Mercy did not want to think about what would happen to them if they were not properly prepared and so she was determined to prepare them - even if it meant doubling the amount of lessons they received from now until they graduated to Wingriders in order to make up for it.

'Some of them will fall mine, no matter how much you try to prepare them' Aerith reminded her rider 'You must not blame yourself for what happens - nor should you continue to blame yourself for the transgressions for the traitor students. It was not your lessons which led them there but their own misguided troublesome natures.' The white reminded it's rider in a kind but stern voice. Thing's were changing yes - but enough of the moping, the guilt and the blaming. It was time to move on.

"I know Aerith, I know..." Mercy responded to her dragon, dropping the last crate and turning to scratch the whites eye ridges fondly while they waited for the students to Arrive.

Courath thrummed happily as she and Hers made their slow approach. She held her wings half mantled, providing a canopy for Dizzian to hide from the sun. Not that the Trine native had anything to fear from Rukbat but she understood the real reason behind Courath's display. The green was excited, more so than she'd been in a long time. Her wounds were healed over and her wing free of it's hated sling. She'd tested it and found everything to her satisfaction. There would be no holding this girl back now. She intended to make up for her lost time.

Dizzian's excitement was tempered with a thrill of apprehension. She had seen Mercy and Aerith, Malvren's infamous White and her rider but she'd never had a chance to really meet them. She still wondered even now about the differences between the small whites and their gendered counterparts. Already she could see that even Courath was nearing Aerith in size. What would Devith look like beside her?

The fear was just another stimulant though and Dizzian fairly vibrated as she walked in Courath's shadow. With the buildings of Trine mere skeletons of what they once were, it wasn't hard to see Mercy and Aerith from a distance and she was sure her own presence had been noted long before she came within speaking distance. Still she waved and paused a respectable distance away, the boxes of course had her attention. How could she not wonder what the Malvren rider had in mind? "Goodmorning Weyrlingmaster."

Courath didn't sit when they stopped. She'd been sitting and laying down for far too long. Instead she stood beside her rider, still sheltering her under spread wings. Her chest thrust out and head held high. Those who'd touched her shell so long ago might be reminded of the miniscule bronze spirit that had been felt within it's thin shell.

The knowledge of lessons was an interesting subject to say the least for Devith and Hekate. True she like the others had been given sparse lessons here or there when a rider could be spared, but for the most part the Silver and His rider simply grew up wild.

However the prospect of showing his siblings just how truly amazing him and his was and that fact his little green siblings would be in attendance had been enough to draw the at first reluctant dragon from his weyr. Of course how could Devith have missed Courath was attending? His favorite sister had practically been vibrating with excitement along with her rider all morning as Hekate worked to oil the last of his hide sending Dizzian and Courath along ahead of her. They'd catch up soon enough.

I still do not see the point of this. Devith rumbled moodily amused at how careful his rider scrubbed and oiled at his hide. While perhaps Devith had forgotten their hatching feast Hekate had no intention of letting the silver's entrance be ruined a second time.

"Just think of it as a way to show case our skills. The sooner we get through these lessons the sooner we can get up into the air." Hekate assured him going over Devith's face one last time with a soft piece of cloth pausing to overlook her work.

Rumbling with amusement Devith gently pulled back posing for his rider. Am I not handsome Mine? The silver called teasingly to his rider even as she put away the oil, brushes, and rags hurrying inside to change her clothes. Pausing half way through doing a clean pair of trousers she stuck her head out the window. "Handsomest dragon in all the Weyr." She assured him with a bright smile abandoning her oil stained tunic for a richly colored aerie yellow wrap tunic, the lighter material cool against her skin in the Trine heat Hekate grabbed her boots pulling them on and rushed for the door. Only to pause half twisting to grab her favorite hair clip pinning the rampant feline into her locks to hold back the stray strand of red from her face where it's little green jeweled eyes twinkled as if alive.

You look to be perfection itself Mine. Come let us show the others. Devith crooned to his rider straightening as the two strode off towards where the lessons were to be held the light glinting off Devith's half mantled shining wings giving their approach a way long before the silver and Hekate actually arrived.

"Weyrlingmaster." Hekate greeted the woman and her white with a short bow as she circled with Devith to take their spot beside Courath and Dizzian.

I am sure this will be all you hoped for sister.
Devith rumbled touching his large nose gently to his sibling's in a rare sign of affection. Rather then lounge with the larger colors he seemed perfectly content to remain by his littler green siblings sides sitting his wings half extended and his tail curled loosely around him and his rider where she leaned against his side grinning to her friend.

Well..at least a couple had shown up. Mercy thought perhaps she was fighting an uphill battle with the current Weyrlings - who thought lessons were necessary when they had already been through battle? And lessons from a Malvren stranger no less. Still there were two..and maybe more would come late.

In her investigations about the Weyrlings she would be taking over Mercy had heard about the plight of Dizzian and Courath, the story had interested her on several levels - first as the young women's future teacher and secondly as someone who had once been involved in medical studies - so she was quite pleased to see the pair show up - at least she assumed it was them, the descriptions she had gotten certainly matched the green.

"Welcome!" She smiled a greeting to both riders and dragons. "I'm glad you could come, I know everyone is busy lately." Letting her eyes slide to Dizzan and Courath she motioned towards the green. "Do either of you mind if I have a look at her, I know the healers cleared her, but I'd like to have a look for myself, I used to work with the healers..before I impressed." While it was partially an exercise in curiosity it also had some bearing on the lesson's that would soon be coming their way. The healers were good but Mercy didn't want to push the green into something before she was ready for it.

Aerith meanwhile cracked open on of her eyes as the young dragons approached, lifting her head to rumble a greeting to them. "Welcome, mine had been most anxious for your arrival." She thrummed at the silver and green who even turns younger then she were already overtaking her in size.

She was late. Curse this new living arrangement. Ever since they had come to Trine Morgaine's world had pretty much fallen apart. This wasn't her home. There were far too many people around for her liking. Most of her research had been left at Malvren, with only the notebook in her pack to keep her happy. And she didn't even want to think of all the possible diseases that could and likely were running rampant in such a crowded area. Now to top it off she was late to her lesson. Surely Mercy would understand, as they were all going through what she was going through - well minus the extreme paranoia of diseases perhaps.

Palooth was the one thing that kept her from completely losing her mind most days. "Quickly Mine! They are going to start without us!"

Like she didn't need to be reminded. Running Morgaine made her way to the area where Mercy had indicated they would go for training. Honestly Morgaine was surprised at how few riders were here. Perhaps she wasn't as late as she had initially thought she was.

Courath crooned with delight as her silver brother took his place at her side. ~ I have no doubt brothermine, though you seem reserved today. ~

Dizzian returned Hekate's grin with a wave of her fingers. Greetings to her friend would have to wait though as the Weyrlingmaster addressed her directly. She blinked rapidly. Oh? umm... Courath?" She turned to look at her beloved, asking her permission.

Courath cocked her head. Her body language was still proud and determined. She would not be denied now that she was free, not today. ~ I am healed. She may look me over for herself if she wishes. ~ It really did no harm if it reassured Mercy. Unlike Devith she had no desire to be admired but she still had pride. She'd decided she was ready and by the first egg she would do what was required of her today.

"She says you can take a look if you want. She doesn't mind." Dizzian laid a protective hand on Courath's neck, stepping aside from the scarred wing as Courath lifted it higher over her head. Most of her injuries had been at the base of her ribcage. The wher who'd attacked her had bitten clean through where the membrane connects to her body, long scores where teeth had torn her hide stripped her lower ribs and the mainsail of her wing was no longer smooth where it had reattached. The scars looked larger than a wher's mouth by now, she'd been so much smaller when they'd actually been inflicted. Dizzian was of course concerned about it but the healers reassured her that since she hadn't learned to fly without the scarring, it shouldn't affect her that much when she did take to the skies.

Courath stood patiently, turning bluegreen eyes to Aerith as the white seemed to wake up. ~ Thank you, we are excited to be here! ~ Well...maybe not Devith, but she was!

I merely do not wish to outshine my favorite sibling on her day. Devith rumbled seeming to open up a little at the green's rampant excitement. Between Dizzian, Courath, and Hekate it was hard for the proud silver to remain too grumpy. That and it is interesting to see this Malvren white that others have spoken of. Mine is quite interested to know more about her. He replied remembering his rider's long list of questions she wanted to pose about if white's had muscle problems like silvers or what difficulties the smallest atypical might share with the largest.

Hekate knew Dizzian was nervous about today, but the red haired weyrling was pleased to see that excitement seemed to have overridden her friend's worry and her grin only broadened at Dizzian's return greeting. That is until the Weyrling master greeted them both then singled the young green pair out.

Devith's unusually quiet and reserved mood seemed to drop like a stone in water as the silver's eyes took on a wary sheen of yellow and red giving the dusky silver a much more intimidating appearance as she shifted a touch closer to his sibling ready to stretch out a wing to block her from view if need be.

Calm down King of Mine. She only wants to check that Courath is well enough to attend this lesson.
Hekate firmly assured her dragon resting a hand on his shining hide as a frown tugged at her own lips though she was a sight better at hiding her worry then her dragon.

Is it not enough that the other healers have cleared them? I will not let them be left out, not when they have so looked forward to attending these. . .lessons. Devith rumbled darkly in his rider's mind, but at least stopped his movement to block Mercy from Courath. Instead he settled for looming in the most disconcerting and intimidating matter he could manage as the healer would approach and check over his sibling. Which was indeed quite intimidating.

I am sure the weyrlingmaster will say the same thing all the other healers have and let Courath attend the lesson so stop fretting. You're going to give Courath and Dizzian a panic attack looking like that and do we really want to start our first lesson on a bad foot? Hekate assured and coaxed her lifemate shaking her head at the silver's antics. She knew how Devith felt about attending lessons. While the two of them had had periodic crash courses here and there, just enough to skimp by they most of all had simply grown up wild. A fact that Devith was proud of and that Hekate too was secretly fond of. They unlike most metallics and atypicals had hit the ground running with no knowledge whatsoever and had learned by their own volition and as far as the pair were concerned there was not a single person on Pern that could complain about the silver's health.

Except maybe Bereck, but Bereck when he was grumpy seemed to complain about everything.

However at Aerith's greeting Devith did seem to relax a touch between the white finally speaking up and his own rider's constant assurance. Giving the smaller dragon a respectful nod he settled down a little his eyes flooding a blue and green though flickers of red and yellow still flashed as he kept a very sharp eye on Mercy until she would return to her place.

When the silver loomed overhead Mercy merely tipped her head up and gave him a reassuring smile before sidestepping him and going on with her initial intention. The silver could intimidate all he wanted but Mercy had been around enough young dragons of varying tempers to know that they couldn't do much more then complain and look menacing. Besides he was a silver - like bronzes they could be a bit over bearing at times and while such displays would typically cause the rider of a lower color to back down she and Aerith were another matter entirely. Aerith was outside the typical pecking order and so as a result was Mercy.

'Being overprotective will not help her' Aerith spoke up , though the white seemed as unconcerned about the silver's display as its rider had been. 'you either believe she can stand on her own or you don't and either way only she can prove it.'

"Thank you." Mercy told Dizzian and Courath even as she noted in the back of her mind the arrival of Morgaine and Palooth. She'd talk with them afterwards, for the moment her attention was solely on the green, the scars were quite apparent and Mercy ran her hands over them gently feeling for the muscles underneath. Her strokes were kind and she added a few scratches here and there before examining the sail. It wasn't smooth like most dragons but Mercy had seen a few threadscores with similar if a bit less extensive damage and they all flew alright.

"She has full range of motion?" She asked Dizzian "Is anything tender anymore? The riding straps for a flying harness might rub some of her hide uncomfortably in these areas with scarring but that's a simple enough fix - just a soft wool covering over the leathers ought to handle it. I don't expect we'll know until she's wearing one - which we'll find out today." She told both riders and their dragons. Morgaine and Palooth would be doing something else of course. "The muscles feel alright but no doubt they've suffered a little bit for all the time they were kept in restraint while she was healing - like a person with a broken limb, but that won't hold her back any if we do a few strengthening exercises, she's actually healed up quite lovely you've done an excellent job." She complimented Dizzian.

Morgaine found a place to stand and wait while Mercy busied herself with inspecting one of the dragons, a green. It didn't take a healer to see that the dragon had been injured recently, likely in the fighting for Malvren and Mercy was doing her best to inspect the dragon. Morgaine watched both Mercy and the Dragon with a critical eye. Her own passion was healing, but concentrating more on curing and preventing diseases not mending wounds, but she could do those things as well and had done so during and shortly after the fighting. It had been terrible to see so many injured, and Morgaine still had nightmares about all the possible diseases now roaming around because of all the blood and opens wounds on that day.

Resting her hand on Palooth's head for reassurance Morgaine listened to Mercy's assessment. Sounded fairly accurate, no one would know how well an injury had healed until it was fully tested and this lesson likely would do so.

~ Devith don't be silly.~ She chastised her silver brother with humor. By now she was used to others touching her and held still for Mercy, only shifting to allow the woman a better view should she need it.

Dizzian watched, trying to keep her own heart calm as once again she felt put in the spotlight. She clasped her hands together to keep them still. "I think she's got full range of motion and she doesn't complain anymore...not that she really ever did. She didn't like being cooped up in the healers tent for so long but neither did I." If Pern had had saints, Courath could have been named one for the patience she displayed during her recuperation. Even when her hide itched and her muscles ached, it took Devith's vocal and somewhat mulish attitude to get things changed. Courath knew eventually that if left alone things would get better and the Healers had other things on their mind than one young green dragon.

"Wool? Wool I can do!" That was a relief to Dizzian. If Courath needed padding on her straps then she was lucky to have a weaver for a rider! Almost inappropriately Dizzian started imagining what colors or patterns she might be able to add. It would be fun to have interchangable ones so they could match each day! She was brought back down to Pern as Mercy continued her judgement. Courath mental laughter made her outwardly grin.

"The healer's mentioned that. We've been stretching them daily. Now that the splint is off she doesn't even want to fold her wings anymore. "

~ They were closed far too long, when we fly I shall never close them again! Excuse me. ~ Courath stepped back when Mercy was finished and stretched her wings slowly and carefully in all directions, reveling in the motion as well as subtly showing Mercy that yes, the left one was ugly, but she could move it just as well as her right.

"She says once she's flying she'll never close her wings again." Dizzian giggled as she translated for the human's present. Courath had yet to speak to another human as far as she knew though she left her words open for any dragon who wished to listen.

Of course she can stand on her own. Devith replied letting out a snort at the very idea of Courath failing at anything. Why you might as well question if Devith could fail and everyone knew him and his did no such thing. She is my clutchmate. I would expect nothing less. He rumbled out turning away as Mercy finished her examination of Courath and ceasing his looming once his sister had been cleared. If Courath was content with it then so shall he be.

I am not being silly sister. . . merely protective. Devith politely informed her craning his head to admire his sibling as she spread her wings showing off their movement. However Mercy's last words sparked an interest in Hekate as she turned to eye the weyrlingmaster one hand on Devith's leg.

"We'll be fitting them to riding harnesses today?" She questioned eyes bright at the very idea. True they probably wouldn't be allowed to fly just yet, but to ride perched on her dragon's back for the first time was just as appealing to Hekate. Even Devith seemed to take an interest in the idea looking at the crates a touch closer this time. She hoped they had a harness in there to fit the weyrling. Devith's clutch had produced mostly blues, greens and small colors besides the two crimsons Devith was the largest of the bunch.

"Will we get a chance to ride a little?" Hekate asked hoping her hunch proved true even as Devith thrummed in her mind rather pleased at the idea of being able to start looking like a true fighting pair.

'Then let her' Aerith replied to the young silver 'It is bothersome to be overly protected because others see you as weaker or different.' The white remarked with an air of personal knowledge to the comment. The little green had been wounded but she was now healed and that to Aerith should be the end of it all.

Mercy meanwhile was watching the little green go through the motions and smiled at her "Wonderful, I don't expect you'll have any troubles" She assured the dragon with a slight chuckle at the relayed comment before turning her attention back to the humans.

"On the ground, provided you manage to get your harnesse's together and fitted properly. Not in the air quite yet..we need to build up that wing strength before they can carry you in the air." And she returned to Aerith who stood up at her approach so that Mercy could demonstrate "These muscles here along the chest and shoulder and these along the back all need to be strengthened, right now your dragons are used to walking, flying uses an entirely different set of muscles and we will need to build them up before we add a riders weight to the mix."

"You'll be flying soon enough!" She assured them. "But your going to need flying harnesse's for that and every rider should know how to put one together in case you have to replace a strap in quick fashion and so...I've brought along boxes of all the pieces you will need, the parts which are sown together are of course pre-done...but those attached with buckles will be up to you to put together. Aerith is wearing her harness and I've marked it with numbers that correspond to the numbers on the boxes so feel free to come up and get a better idea of where everything goes. Put your harness together and fit it to your dragon as best you can."

Motioning to the boxes she invited Dizzian and Hekate to start before looking to Morgaine. Morgaine and Palooth of course were too advanced for this particular lesson - but some of the advanced lessons had been cut rather short at Malvren due to the events which had taken place and Morgaine - ever the paranoid, if a close friend - has asked for a quick overview of what had been missed, so they would go over that while the others worked.

Morgaine waited while the other two riders were given their instructions. It was something her and Palooth had already completed but she was a stickler for showing up to lessons even if it was something they already knew, refresher courses were a good thing after all. But she would not be participating in these lessons like the others, she had come here with a purpose of learning other things as well and as the other two riders set to their tasks Morgaine stepped closer to Mercy with Palooth following nice and close.

Palooth looked over at Aerith. "Mine has come today to ask many questions of Yours." Palooth paused to scratch his right front shoulder before looking over at Morgaine and Mercy.

Seeing Palooth scratching himself again Morgaine frowned slightly. He shouldn't be itchy anymore. Attempting to push that thought away, though certainly it would need to be addressed sooner rather than later, she turned her attention back to Mercy. "I was hoping we could talk a bit about flying in formation if you aren't too busy with the lessons."

Just because I am protective of my companions does not mean that I believe my companions are weak. Merely that I feel they are precious enough to me that I worry for their safety. Devith rumbled feeling rather insulted by this new Malvren white, but fell silent when Hekate elbowed him.

While I feel that was rather well spoken let's not risk our chance to finally run together on a mere slight such as this. Besides~ Hekate trailed off a rather mischievous look in her eyes as she patted her silver dragons hide.

These will be our first riding straps Mine? They certainly don't look like much.
Devith replied watching as Hekate was quick to rush over to the crates coming back with her arms full of the leather pieces to set them down in front of her on the ground. Taking a seat the red hair weyrling began to sort through the parts.

I have to put them together first. Besides I guess in a way it makes it more personal. They'll be OUR riding straps that we put together ourselves Hekate replied frowning as she pulled up a double of one of the straps with a frown. What was that doing there? She could have sword she'd been so careful to make sure she had all the pieces. Mentally cursing she trotted back to the bin to toss the double back in where it belonged.

Devith distracted from his earlier argument with the white by his rider's current activities stretched himself out on the ground tilting his head to eye his riders work. The leather is rather plain Mine. I would expect better for the likes of us. He rumbled as Hekate set out all the pieces double checking that she had everything she would need this time around.

I'm sure we can maybe get one of the tanners to embroidier it a little or stamp some patterns into the surface later on. For now though it'll suit our needs. Hekate replied eyeing the leather in full agreement with her dragon. It could be nicer, but for now she was more interested in getting it put together and getting up on Devith to be to picky about how it looked.

Perhaps we could even get a feline put on the chest piece. Devith crooned eyes whirling with amusement and love as he saw his rider pause and consider the leather chest piece of the harness carefully at the mention of his idea.

You would look quite ferociously handsome sporting a symbol like that.
Hekate mused absentmindedly lifting a hand to stroke the feline clip in her hair, something she often did these days while thinking.
