- It seemed to take forever for everyone to arrive. Bryn herself had known that Yazhi and Kenai had come in behind her. She had passed them, and caught Kenai's smile. She had smiled back, but she hadn't been sure if he'd actually seen it, given that she didn't turn around to return it. She had continued forward. With so few seeming to have actually gone on this hunt that apparently had been mandatory, it didn't seem like there was fault for something getting away. Of course, it would just mean some hunger. It was not a stranger to this pack. It was no stranger to Bryn. she had grown up this way, and it would continue to cycle. Besides, she would feed the pups first,m before she allowed herself to eat. The pups were the future. Bryn wasn't terribly old herself, but the pup's health and safety was prioritized high above her own. She had seated herself and lowered her eyes, but she had caught Faux's nod of acknowledgement at her presence. She gave a soft nod back, in acknowledgement to him as well. She lifted her eyes at that point. The submission around her was far more then enough to suit Faux, was it not? The belly up routine was simply something she couldn't picture herself doing. Not for something so trivial. Bryn was loyal, oh yes, but that did not mean she would grovel. The day Faux forced her belly up would be a sad day indeed.
When Kazuo came into the group and padded towards her, Bryn had somewhere to look besides Faux and she was grateful. With the greeting, Bryn gave a small sigh of relief to have a distraction form those who were going belly up. of course, Kazuo seemed to be showing quite a submissive posture himself. She smiled gently at him. "Hey Kaz. Nice day today?" Kazuo shared her rank, as did Lessea and Kenai. She had no qualms with any of her pack in truth. There was no one she didn't like. She was a loyal person, and pack to her was still family, even if that had been a pup notion and not everyone had been born into the sea pack. Everyone part of it was still family, adopted members at all. Kazuo was someone that made a good running partner. Someone that was nice. Bryn was also simply elated that he had given her a distraction until Faux began his speech. It meant she didn't have to look at him and try to show submission if he looked at her. She wouldn't have to fear being rude, because she was talking to Kazuo. She knew from the actions of her pack mates that Faux couldn't possibly have been happy, and when she heard Faux begin, she understood why.
The alpha began with a torrent about unity. That the pack was falling apart and needed to be stitched back together. Higher ranks that were not filled would need to be filled. Everyone was going to be watched. If only I could groan... Bryn thought. She hated the idea of someone watching her, critiquing her int heir mind, and making decisions based on her performance or what she did. Trying to put her own arrogance and confidence aside, Bryn thought that with her fierce loyalty and desire to protect the pack, that she would make a good second in command. it would be high enough up to slightly contest Faux for the sake of the pack. Bryn was not power hungry, but she did not want to show her belly. She did not want to be forced to do anything by anyone. That was why she figured beta would be a spot to lean. She would have enough authority over herself that she didn't need to worry about force. When Faux's eyes roamed to her own, she caught them full on, and looked away only at the last second. She had seen the look and the seriousness behind the command. Also the power that he was trying to inflict in his gaze. Bryn understood this much, and said nothing, but looked to Kazuo for a moment instead.
When Faux began speaking again, he was talking about the lack of people in certain positions needing to be helped and covered by people in other's. Faux's eyes seemed to linger on Kenai. It must have been the comment that Kenai had made. Yet, Kenai had made a valid point. he was not a hunter. He was a warrior. he was meant to protect the pack, not fetch food. Everyone could take part yes, but that did not make it mandatory. This hunt that had failed, seemed to have been mandatory, but Bryn herself had not known about it. So perhaps Kenai had also missed it's command of attendance? The scout herself didn't know, but she looked to Kenai gently. Faux was laying it out. There was no food. he was disappointed in those who didn't contribute. Perhaps it was that choice of words that was meant to make those who hadn't been hunting feel guilty? Bryn didn't feel guilty at all. She hadn't known. She didn't think Kenai felt guilty. He had been occupied elsewhere. It happened.
It was at this point that Faux seemed to realize this meeting he'd called was missing members. He asked where the pups were, as well as Lessea. Bryn didn't know, but she had noted their absence before Faux had begun talking. She was concerned for the whereabouts of the pups. Lessea was grown and could take of herself. She was a fellow scout and knew how to avoid danger. The pups, Caydence and Kye did not. Bryn only hoped that Lessea was indeed with both pups playing chaperon. Faux ordered b]Kazuo and Kenai to go looking for the ups. Bryn's heart tugged a bit at this. A scout and a warrior was a good match, but Bryn felt responsible for these pups. Faux moved his gaze to Vixen. it might have been about one of the pups. Bryn wasn't sure. Bryn simply knew that she would not have let the pups wander off or get out of pack land, even if they were with her. It just wasn't safe.
When Faux asked if there was anything else someone wanted to bring up, Vixen spoke. Vixen wanted to take the place of Kenai on the run to find the pups. Vixen laid claim to one of these pups. yet, Vixen wasn't with her pup. Bryn stifled a small growl. It had come, but she had done her best to hide it. This was a concern for Bryn. She would not let these pups see harm because someone was careless. if Vixen laid claim to a pup, she should have been with it at all times, unless she knew someone else had been with the pup. Lessea was capable of much, but two pups on top of scouting duties was a lot, especially with rambunctious pups like Kye and Caydence. If Vixen hated been paying attention, and had given her pup away to do other things, then she wasn't responsible. At all. To Bryn, that was unacceptable. Bryn might not have had power, but she was stubborn and was firm in her beliefs. She did not like that these pups were missing, and only now, when there was worry, that Vixen was concerned. Bryn stretched, distracting her anger and noise making with further movement, so it would seem as though she was not angry, but had just become agitated at holding a position so long. She would have berated anyone who was irresponsible with pups, but it was not her place. She may not have shown her submission in actions, but she knew the lines. Her growl in protest would already have been crossing, she wanted no more irritation on her, but she was not satisfied, and this was not happy for her. She would take care of those pups.
She was crazy. That much was certain, but her love of pups was overwhelming. She had to speak her mind. "Alpha, I will take the responsibility of both pups, as well as Scouting, if I am allowed. I would not like to see such running again. I would keep them accounted for at all times as if I'd birthed them myself." Bryn had a feeling that the answer would be no. She would be surprised if it was a yes, but she would not move or question until the verdict was given. nor would she after in front of this crowd. She simply sat tall, keeping her eyes at Faux's nose so that she could see him, but not be disrespectful and offering challenge by looking him straight in the eyes.
