Eäryendë lay on the shore, the waves rolling over her enough that she wasn't at risk of drying out under the sun's rays. It was one of those days where she simply wanted to laze about and enjoy the peace and quiet. Tail swishing around, she found herself humming softly - something she hadn't done in so long that she believed she wouldn't know how to even if she wanted to try.
It began to warm up a little more and Eäryendë realised the sun was rising, its rays beating down on her enough that the waves weren't enough to protect her skin. Turning, she pushed herself into the water, swimming into the waves. She dove down a few meters before shooting back up, somersaulting and diving back into the water.
Letting her head poke out of the water, she swam around, happy as a clam.

It had taken Catori a while to sneak away from her father, Bernard was always fretting over where her and her siblings were. As soon as he had fallen asleep Catori has quietly made her way away from their home. Marlowe was too busy tracking down some new poisonous plant, and Guen simply had wanted to do her own thing. Catori raced down the beach with glee trying to race as fast as she could against the sand.
Once Catori was far enough away from home so no one could see the filly carefully tip toed down to the waters edge. The waves lapped at her hooves as Catori looked farther out. Today she decided she was going to get her entire body into the ocean. No one in her family had a tail like hers, Marlowe had fins on his head and seemed unafraid to dive right in and learn to swim. Catori however had been afraid to follow him. No matter! today was the day!
She thought she saw something bobbing around amongst the waves but when she blinked it was gone again. With the sun warm on her back Catori took a deep breath and stepped further into the surf. The filly would wade in a few steps then out again, then wade back in and out. Finally Catori made it to chest level, her hooves barely touching the bottom when a wave came and swept her off of the bottom completely.

Eäryendë watched the filly come to the shore, head barely poking up from the water. As the filly waded in, the mer ducked under the water and stayed there, ready to flee should the small kelpi come near her. Making friends wasn't exactly her forte' and she certainly didn't know how to deal with a foal.
It seemed the foal had her own issues of dealing; in particular dealing with the strength of the waves and the current. It didn't take long for Eäryendë to reach the foal; used to maneuvering her way through the rips and currents. She slipped herself under the mare's stomach, in between her legs and lifted her up above the waves. She knew the mare would've been able to breath under water but panic could do terrible things to those who weren't experienced.
Eäryendë waded the waters to the shore, slipping the girl off her back. "What were you thinking?"

As Catori was swept off her feet she began to panic. She whipped her tail for a moment trying to help herself. Catori cried out when she felt something under her, and found herself being carried to the shallow waters of the shore. The filly tried to keep herself calm. Breathing slowly and glad she could with her head above the water.
Catori found herself slipping off whoever or whatever's back and felt her hooves hit the soft squishy sand in the shallows. She found herself looking at..a mare..a breed of mare she had never seen before. Not wanting to be rude she answered back." I was trying to swim..." Catori looked down at her hooves and the surf swirling around her legs. She sighed and looked out at the sea."I never learned how." She found herself admitting.
