Mini Basket Love Epine de Rose and I [LydaLynn] were THRILLED when Darkmoon Dancer chose Francesca and Biddulphia as one of her first breeding couples. We want to share that excitement with someone else. The problem is, neither of us care for the traditional basket contest. So . . . we're going to try something new! A Contest Raffle! Rules: 1. Follow all Gaia and Shop rules and policies. 2. Be polite, courteous, encouraging, friendly, and generally a good person. No bullying, badmouthing, whining or complaining. This is for fun and to help spread the basket love. If you don't care for what you see you don't have to participate. 3. Don't reserve posts. This annoys me. 4. This will be a contest raffle. - a. Wait, what does that mean? That means that there will be a contest that you must create an entry for - but that the basket will be raffled off in the end.- b. Why do we have to create contest entries if this is a raffle? The main reasons for contests are to 1] show you have put work/effort into gaining the basket/soquili 2] give the contest holders an idea of who they would like the basket/soquili to go to 3] have some fun way of determining who the basket will go to 4] encourage others to think creatively and long term about the basket/soquili they are trying to win. We would very much like to encourage this.- c. So why a raffle? Unfortunately contests are generally an 'all or nothing' sort of thing and the results end up being very arbitrary. Some people are more skilled, or better at spouting what the person running the contest wants to hear. Some people work hard but lose out because they don't know as much about the parent's owners and have a serious entry when a funny one is what is being sought. And some people have less time, but just as much desire and love and shouldn't be completely out of luck because their lives are more full outside of the Gaia.- d. But . . . how is this contest raffle going to work? Basically each person can enter as many prompt/contest options as they would like. A single entry gets that person a participation raffle ticket. Each person may get up to two raffle tickets in this manner, each entry after the first two will not add to their participation tickets. HOWEVER, each entry can be awarded additional tickets by Epine and I. We can each award up to two additional tickets per entry allowing us to add to the odds of those who go above and beyond, put in extra work, tickle our funny bones, are highly creative, etc.- e. You mean, if I do a good job, my odds go up, but I have a chance even if I do basically nothing? Well, no. If you do NOTHING for your entry besides putting in your name and 'If I win the Pony will be AWESOME!' we reserve the right to not give you a participation ticket. We really do want to see people putting forth effort, something we can look at and feel reassured that you actually care about the basket/soquili. But if you put forth even a modicum of effort, yes - you will get a ticket, and you do have a chance.- f. So when do we get our tickets? As I am on, I will adjust tickets. I will be going through and giving participation tickets as I see entries and will likely add my additional tickets at that time. Epine will probably not give her additional tickets until the contest has closed. Tickets will not be grouped together so you can have tickets #1, 4, 8, 9, and 17.- g. Does this mean I can't edit my posts: You can edit your posts until the end of the contest. If you do so, please put a note at the top of the entry in bold red letting me know. This probably won't change any award I may have already given you, so please try to have a completed entry up when you post.5. Please put each entry in a different post. 6. If you have questions or issues please PM me [LydaLynn] and I will try to address them as quickly as I am able. 7. Please have different posts for each entry. This just makes things easier for us. You only get judged per post, so multiple entries in the same post will cost you possible additional tickets. 8. I don't care what your herd size is, you may enter this contest if you have none, one, or one hundred. 9. Please don't delete posts. As I will be awarding tickets as I see entries, this will just cause me headaches. If you feel you need to withdraw an entry or you wish to remove yourself from the raffle contest, please strike through your entry and post a note letting me know you're leaving. I wouldn't mind knowing why, but that is not required. If you do this, you can not undo it, so be sure. 10. You may NOT give this prize to someone else. There will be no proxies. However, you may co-own if you choose, following all shop rules for co-ownership. Wishes [not really rules, just things we would appreciate you keeping in mind]: 1. We would really love for this basket to go to someone interested in developing the character. We can not enforce this, but would love to see the foals of our beloved characters being appreciated as something other than brood mares or stud stallions. 2. Please don't enter if you don't love the Usdia and other mini breeds. We know the full sized Soquili are awesome, but Usdia are not second class citizens. They are amazing and full of personality. They deserve plots, backgrounds, loves, and chances to breed. 3. Family RP. Epine and I love this family. But we can be slow at replying to RPs. We would love to have a chance to interact with the basket in this contest, but we understand that not everyone has the patience to wait for our posts. And we understand that not everyone can rp all the time. While we love rp and encouraging it, we do not mind background rp or just plotting where it makes things easier for the new owner. 4. Francesca and Biddulphia are life mated, there will be additional baskets from the pair and we would love for them to know their older siblings. 5. When I said we are slow with our RP, we've been running one rp for more than two years now and it hasn't even passed 48 hours. But we love it. Biddulphia even got a Spotlight Award from that story. We encourage you to look it over and get a feel for the parents and the care we have put into them. You can find that RP O'er mountains we wander. 6. At the end of the whole contest and raffle, after a winner has been determined, we wouldn't mind a little constructive opinion on the contest. As previously mentioned, they are a life mated pair and there will be additional breedings from them. We would like to know what people thought of the contest and what they might like to see in future contests - but only if such can be done in a positive and respectful manner. Thank you for your patience with my endless typing. If you're still reading, Ladybug is a special word that might just give you an edge in getting raffle tickets. On to the Family and Contest!!

Family! Father: Pragmatic and objective, he seems to have a habit of meticulously analyzing his surroundings. Dulph often mutters his reasoning out loud as he thinks. Older than he looks, Biddulphia has observed other Soquili and has noticed that while in some respects his metal body is a boon, he can not feel the touch of others. Where love is concerned, Dulph is a bit reserved and shy, not even sure if he is capable of the emotion. He has had a hard time overcoming that reserve and isn't sure he will be able to love his foals. Biddulphia is, however, very giving and wants to help others. soquili_spotlights "Biddulphia is one of those interesting characters that can change how you feel, making you laugh from time to time due to his muttering and objective nature... and at other times making you just want to give him a hug. He reminds me very much of the Tin Man, 'If I only had a heart', but in truth Dulpia has one as big as a mountain, helping others and secretly searching for that special someone who will hold him and cherish him above all others." Mother: Adventurous and spirited, Fran loves nothing more than to take a pragmatic approach to life. Anything and everything goes, you only live once and the best thing you can do is take every opportunity and run with it. As a well travelled mare, Fran has plenty of stories to tell - that being said, adventurous she might be but flighty she is not. Fiercely loyal, she'll always return home to the ones she cares for... In the end, family is a core part of her life. Maternal Grandfather: Maternal Grandmother: Esta is a strange little usdia and a study of contrasts. Her wyrsa blood and her usdia blood are at odds with each other...and she has had an unusual encounter with Wyrsa herself. Not too much else is known about her at this time. Helper: Content to spend all day sunning and munching on insects. Iroxide won't move with speed unless his life depends on it. Buddulpia found Iroxide after the lizard had fallen from the clutching talons of a bird intent on supper. Due to his wounds, Iroxide has no voice, but is an endless help to his rather clueless Usdia friend. Siblings:Epine de Rose's basket: LydaLynn's basket: [Personalities undetermined.]

And then I would . . . Your Name: Midori_Keiko Entry:1 # of 2# Foal is: Female Prompt #: 2 Entry: As the young foal stood at the base of the mountain she gazed up its winding road. Lyrica stood in awe.“I have always wanted to go here. The way the wind blows and the sweet smell of the trees, it’s so peaceful.” I move forward my hooves sinking into the soft road of dirt. The birds whistle their joyful tune and my heart felt a flutter. The higher I walked the more I felt compelled to run for the wind to whip through my mane and my hooves to flick the dirt high into the sky. Before I knew I was running as fast as my little legs could carry me. Trees began to tower over me, growing closer together, thicker. My breath began to emit a white puff, and I slowed catching my breath. It was at that moment I saw the songbird perched on its branch. It stared at me turning its head. I backed away slightly frightened of it. The songbird opened its small beak and broke into song. The melody was sweet, the notes hitting on high and like when I was running I joined in without my attention to it. My lungs filled with air which could heed long notes and my melody that matched that of the bird. It was warmth inside my heart I felt at that moment and I didn’t want it to end. I’d never sung before, despite hearing my mother’s out of tone songs, to aid me to sleep. The song ended as soon as it had appeared and my heart beat slowed down. I smiled at the songbird and it looked like it smiled back. The sun’s warmth was disappearing, causing me to shudder. This was going to be my little secret, well me and the songbird’s.

Edited 10/6/12 4:40am, added more to this text monster xEAnd then I would . . . Your Name: Elf Princess Flannery Entry: # 2 of #2 Foal is: Male (Bismuth) Prompt #: Prompt 4: You just met another foal who was not part of your family. They thought you looked and sounded strange and didn't understand the basic math your father has taught you or the love of adventure and learning you got from your mother. How do you react to learning you are different? Entry: It was mid-day and the sun was shining brightly. The light glittered on Bismuth’s back, and he looked up towards the sun with his glowing green eyes. He knew he could use the sun to judge the height of something tall like a tree. His mother had taken him to her favored grazing area, pine cones were her favorite, and the pine trees were quite tall in the area. While she broke open the pine cones with her hooves and munched on the savory seeds, Bismuth was measuring the shadow of the tree in his body lengths. He made a mark with his hoof for each length and counted until he reached the base of the towering evergreen. The then trekked back to his beginning point, and made a tally of his measurements. He then left his work area to find sticks suitable enough to measure the angle from the shadow to the tree. His father had taught him about measurements and counting and numbers. Bismuth found peace in the solidarity of numbers. Math was black and white and he enjoyed knowing he was right or doing the problem correctly. He was still very young, but showed much interest in numbers and counting. Being away from the shelter of the cave made him nervous and he had been hesitant to fully explore his surroundings outside of the cave. With some much needed convincing Fran coaxed him out for grazing trips. At first his anxiety was almost unbearable but after several trips to the same pine forest, he became familiar and quite comfortable with the area. He still tended to keep within eyesight of Fran at all times but when she was generally staying in one area he could focus on counting and numbers. A “Y” shaped stick was slightly buried under a layer of pine needles; Bismuth brushed the needles aside with his nose and picked up the stick. Still holding the stick in his mouth he raised his head and looked back at where he had left his mother to her pine cones. A twinge of panic jumped through him when he realized he could not see her. He immediately ran back to the area but still could not see her. His knees felt weak beneath him and he looked around for a few more times. Bismuth circled the area and paced back and forth where Fran had been. His heart sank to his stomach and he squinted his eyes together in an attempt to regain his composure. In his head he began to count, 1, 2, 3, 4…. When he reached ten he opened his eyes. His breathing was regular again and his heart felt like it was in the right place again. “I only have to follow the pine cones, or perhaps count the steps back to the cave” he said to himself. “Who are you talking to?” a voice said to him. His anxiety was jumping again, but he suppressed it and began to count in his head again as he turned to see the source of the voice. Bismuth had maintained his composure and appeared emotionless. It was a filly, she was much taller than he was and she stared into his glowing eyes with deep curiosity. “I am not talking to anyone. Up until just a moment ago I did not realize I was not alone.” He said to the filly. His voice was quiet and slightly metallic sounding. The filly pulled her head back as if to be surprised. “You’re voice! It sounds so strange! And you are so tiny! I didn't know babies could talk that early.” This girl suddenly reminded him of his mother, “I do not think my voice sounds strange at all, and I am not a baby, I am young but certainly not a baby. I can speak very well and understand basic mathematics.” He said with little to no variation within his voice. The girl snorted, “Mathematics? What’s that? Some sort of dance?” Bismuth looked at the girl blankly for a moment, he was not entirely certain on how to respond. “No, it is not a dance. Did you’re parents not teach you math? Do you know how to count?” he then realized he should probably not ask two questions in a row without letting her answer. Despite her blatant rudeness, he remained polite. He was taught to be polite and kind to strangers, and although she was irritating him and he wanted to find his mother three minutes ago, he knew that to remain calm and detached was the best way to handle the situation. “Of course I can count, is that all Mathematics is? If so that’s easy. Speaking of parents, where are yours? You are awfully tiny to be wandering about by yourself. I’m too big for parents, I don’t need them anymore” she said proudly. He knew he was small, but he did not appreciate being called tiny. He was getting the feeling that this filly did not have the patience or attention span for mathematics as he knew it. Yes parents, he needed to find Fran. "Yes I lost my mother for a moment, I was just about to look for her when you interrupted my train of thought. My name is Bismuth" He felt he needed to introduce himself because it was the polite thing to do. "My name is Ladybug, maybe we can look for her together?" Her sudden kindness surprised him, and his eyes glowed slightly brighter.

What's in a name? Your Name: x blame it on the --- x Entry: One of Two Male: Basket Name: Fizzcrank Meaning: Fizzcrank is an NPC from WoW. I figured it would work well for him, considering Fizzcrank is a Mechagnome. Temper: Critical Personality: Fizzcrank is a very observant male. He often times will stare at people and analyze everything about them. He is naturally cold, finding emotions to be things that are unneeded. Logic and thought is something that he cherishes. And when he sees something he disagrees with, or sees something that must be wrong, he states it. He is very blunt, and refuses to "beat around the bush" of sorts. If he happens to upset someone, he usually just says a sort of apology, before walking away from it. He is distant, even if he doesn't realize it. Female: Basket Name: Emeraldgear Meaning: I pulled the color emerald from her green, and then I added a "steam punk/mechanical" term to her name. So basically I made it up. Temper: Compassionate Personality: Realizing her father is one that doesn't seem to hold emotion close, Emeraldgear feels that she should do something to help. She shows as much emotion, and compassion, as she can in order to help her father. That made her one of the sweetest little ponies in the world. She enjoys helping others, and nuzzling up to people. She likes to stay close to her dad, and try and help any way she can to keep him as happy as she can. She's an all around sweet gal.

And then I would . . . Your Name: Cassini Entry:1 # of 2# Foal is: Female Prompt #: Prompt 2: Your father's voice is strange, your mother is tone deaf, but music is in your soul. Describe how you discovered your voice and if anyone but the empty mountainside can appreciate it. Entry:The moon hung high in the night air. The sky was clear and the stars sparkled brightly. The air was slightly chilled, but the rocks were warmer from the late sun. Cassini kept her feet light and moved slowly through her family’s cave. She made her way through the hidden entrance and crept past Iroxide, who appeared to be sleeping. She had done this before, crept out in the middle of the night, to sneak off to her special place. The air had a bit of a bite to it and her body tensed from the chill. She made her way down the path carefully, and slowly. The moon was bright enough to light her way, but the shadows were still too dark to be certain of. After getting a few yards from the entrance of the cave she looked back and was certain no one was following her. She proceeded down the path, and strayed from it a bit. She was jumping on the rocks and let her hooves find the jagged edges of the stone. But her playfulness preceded her and she slipped, nearly twisting her ankle. After recovering she decided to tone down a bit and made her way down the hillside more carefully. Cassini hummed to herself gently; it was a song her mother would sing shamelessly. Her mother was not the most glorious singer, in fact she was absolutely tone deaf, but she taught her to let her heart sing and be herself. Cassini was herself, all the time, but she still felt self-conscious about her singing voice. To fight her nervousness Cassini sang to herself, more clearly she sang to the mountain side. Part of the hillside dipped in, like a quarry, and reflected her voice crisply. This is where she is most open, and most vulnerable. She opened her mouth and let her heart poor out in to a beautiful symphony of words and vocals. Song was her soul, even when she had no words to sing, she hummed melodies and tunes. It was risky to sneak out and sing by herself. The danger of being caught made it more thrilling for her. But the danger of being hunted had not crossed her mind. In the tree line behind her, a pair of golden eyes glinted in the moonlight. They followed her as she paced and trotted. Cassini was clueless to the apparent danger of wandering about in the dead of night. In her mind, everyone was sleeping except her. But there is always someone else, watching patiently, waiting for that last enticing moment to strike.
