Z'fer clapped the man on the cot before him on the thigh, laughing heartily before standing from his chair and stretching. "Alright S'ard. I'll hold you to that! Send a flit if those healers don't let you out for our next training. I'll come down here and talk to them myself." With a casual wave he exited the healer's tent.
The sun was bright outside even at this early hour. Z'fer once again was reminded of the vast different between the wind chilled mornings of Malvren and the sun baked sands of Trine. He wasn't sure his northern bred body would ever acclimate. At least he'd never need cold weather gear here. He knew he couldn't change the climate but how these people lived irked him. He made allowances for the fact that their weyr was almost completely destroyed in the revolution, but tents and wooden shacks... It wasn't appropriate for dragons and their riders. Solid stone walls and deep caves were far more appropriate. They were more comfortable as well!
That healer's tent... it left him with a damp sensation under his braid. Keeping sick and injured people in there seemed more hazardous than leaving them in open air. The least they could do was tie open the doors so they'd have some airflow. The Trine healers would just shrug it off if he said anything he was sure. They didn't sharding know what a cool breeze felt like.
A flash of Hunger! caught his attention, followed shortly after by a familiar creel from his little black flit Klah. The chubby little lizard dropped out of the sky and onto the arm lifted for him, eyes whirling green with pleasure as well a the red of hunger. "Can't you hunt for yourself?" Z'fer gave his normal complaint. He could see Fellis hovering nearby, flitting in the direction of the mess hall and back. "Alright you two. You're lucky I'm hungry too." He'd made a promise to visit his wingrider S'ard first thing but now he could take care of his own needs.

Kindra was heading towards the Healer's tent, though her leg had long since healed enough that she didn't need to visit she often made trips to help with those still hurt, offering support and encouragement. Most weren't even from Benden but she was stuck at Trine for the time being and she was trying to do her bit, this was part of it. She'd spend several candlemarks visiting, comforting where she could, offering hope where some might lose it.
She'd just come from the kitchens with a bowl of meat for those in the Infirmary with flits that couldn't venture out and get it themselves. She'd been severely humbled when she'd been forced from Benden and was trying ... she really was, even if some didn't see it. She was lost in her own thoughts mostly, thinking about N'mol, they hadn't seen each other much, mostly in passing and she missed the man. It wasn't until she heard a male voice that she snapped out of her thoughts and even she had to admire him. She smiled at his tone with his black flit. "Good day Rider" she said, eyes appraising him a little, her affection was for N'mol but she was still Kindra, and appreciated a handsome man when one was in front of her. "it is rather hot today isn't it" she said, noting him sweating slightly, how could she not with her eyes wandering as they were. She herself was wearing something loose but pretty enough, low cut and accentuated her curves... well ... the curves that mattered.

Z'fer glanced towards the feminine voice as he felt a puff of cold and suddenly nothing where his flit had been. There was a brief pause as he took in the young woman before him. Her hair and skin were dark enough to rival his own though she had obviously taken more consideration with her clothing than he had. Even in Trine's climate he still tromped around in full length pants and boots though his leather vest had been traded for a simple sleeveless tunic. He gave her a crooked smile, realizing he recognized her from the Wingleader's meet. "Good day to you as well Goldrider." He gave her a short bow. "Everyday here is hot." He replied with a chuckle.
Klah reappeared in front of her, creeling as his begging eyes stared directly into the bowl of meat. The chubby little black hovered, looking for an opportunity to land on her near the bowl. Fellis was slightly better behaved as she swooped overhead, taking her place on Z'fer's shoulder. Quiet hungry trills whispered from her as she rubbed her face against Z'fer's cheek.
"Here now. Klah knock that off." He closed the distance between them and retrieved his flit. Once again he smiled down at Kindra. "Sorry about him. I was just going to feed the little pests and maybe get a bite myself. You wouldn't be interested in joining me would you?" It was a long shot, with flitter food she might be going to feed her own fair (he didn't know if she had any but why else carry a large bowl of meat scraps?). Still it didn't hurt to ask. He hadn't had a chance to get to know many of the other leaders outside of business and with his own queen dead and their Jr missing, well it was politics.

Kindra smiled when the bronzerider greeted her. "True.... but compared to Benden, almost everywhere is hot" she commented, reminding him that she was Benden's Goldrider.
She took a step back when the chubby black flit burst out from Between right in front of her and she put her hand over the bowl protectively. "No... not for you" she said with a chuckle at the black, who was obviously belonged to the man in front of her, especially when he moved to grab at the flit.
"It's alright, normally i wouldn't mind but i was taking this to those with young flits in the infirmary, they can't get out to get it themselves" she explained, smiling kindly at the affection he showed with the little pets. "but.. i AM early..." she said, a flirty tone edging her voice "We could feed your 'starving' creatures first and i can get some more in a little while" she added, grinning at her sarcasm in regards to the flits. It was obvious he took good care of them, even if the Black was a little podgy.

Z'fer let Klah curl up in the crook of his arm. It was better the little bugger was there than pestering Kindra. "I wouldn't be surprised. You're from farther north than even I." He had been born in Malvren's northernmost hold but that was nothing compared to the almost arctic Benden Weyr.
He waved a dismissive hand to the infirmary. "It's quiet in there. Let them have their peace before you excite all the little pests with food." Z'fer wasn't sure of what to expect from Benden's young goldrider. Her flirty tone had not gone unnoticed though and it had caught the bronzerider's interest. "Come," He said with a smooth smile. "Share a pot of Klah with me." His eyebrow raised in a flirtatiously daring manner as he made a small bow and gestured back the way she'd come.
Klah peeped from where he lay curled against Z'fer's chest, confused at hearing his own name.

Kindra didn't mind the flit really but it was a black and she was slightly less inclined to let it get away with misbehaviour than the .. regular colors. She smiled at Z'fer's comment "Benden's winters can be harsh" she admitted.
She was slightly relieved to be steered away from the healer's tent. Oh she'd go later but she WAS hot, and it would be worse inside the tent. "Klah would be good" she said, the corners of her mouth twitching when he bowed. "we could even grab something to eat ourselves" she said, turning to start back the way she came.
A flash of Green appeared from Between and alighted on Kindra's shoulder. "This... is Runt" she said with a slight chuckle, "the very mention of food brings her running, though i thought she was fast asleep" Her tone was full of amusement though, she couldn't be angry with the little creatures, especially her own

"Flits will do that. Klah can't be kept away when food is around. He may have a little extra weight but he takes full advantage of that ability to between so precisely. " He snorted with amusement at the green hatchling's name. She wasn't an atyp but he supposed it still fit. Calanoth would be amused as well at the obvious name. He gave Z'fer enough flack as is for his own unimaginative ones.
Klah kept up his slightly confused chattering. Look! He was Good! He wasn't eating her food even though he Really Wanted To. Couldn't His see how Hungry he was? Klah creeled pitifully, head tilted back to look up at Z'fer's face. Z'fer just placed his hand over the flit's head, giving it a rough but affectionate rub. "Hush up you." He muttered.
The walk back to the Kitchens wasn't long thankfully and even though the air inside was still warm, it was better than being out in the direct sun. The smell of food kept it from feeling too stuffy as well. "Looks like they've got breakfast going." Z'fercommented as they entered. He'd been hungry before but the smell made it come to the forefront of his mind.
"I'll get us the klah, do you need sweetener for yours?" He transferred his little flit to his shoulder, giving Klah a silent command to be still and wait just a few more minutes. Fellis perched on a beam overhead and watched Kindra with the bowl of meat. Z'fer hoped the goldrider would be willing to share it with his flits. He'd rather focus on waving down a drudge to get them their own meal.

Z'fer and Kindra hadn't been the only ones thinking to get some of the warm rich drink for themselves. Devith was determined to go take a swim in the lake and perhaps be oiled afterwards and Hekate was determined have a hot cup of klah to sip on while she let her dragon have his fun in the water. Perhaps even pick up a roll or two to munch on while she waited. With this in mind the silverrider trailed by her rappidly growing lifemate had padded their way towards the kitchens intent on getting her meal. Only to pause at the sight of Benden's goldrider, her with a bowl of meat and a flit on her shoulder waiting outside for something or another.
Wait here. I'll be right back. She called to Devith who merely rumbled his acknowledgement as he settled down on a ice grassy patch not far from the kitchen entrances to wait even as Hekate ducked past the woman and inside. It was mornings like this that made her glad all her flits were old enough now to hunt for themselves. Only Prince her lazy silver still insisted on being fed and usually took a bite out of whatever his owner was having at the moment while the others hunted for fish or small game. Occasionally Lady or Baron would leave a small dead tunnelsnake for her or one of those little freshwater skitterclaws. Ducking past a drudge to collect some food and a cup of klah for herself Hekate all, but crashed head first into a rather familiar chest when the man sidestepped into her path. The impact rousing the sleeping silver flit around her neck who blinked and chirruped his confusion.
"Z'fer?" Hekate questioned tilting her head up as she recognized just whom she'd run into. "What are you doing in the kitchens of all places?" She questioned with a tilt of her head.

Kindra gave a little giggle, "That's true, i wonder if the smaller they are, the bigger their stomachs though" she said, her tone light. The green that alighted on Kindra's shoulder was small enough to have almost been an Atype, it was unlikely she would ever get as big as even the average Green. "Such a small little thing" she murmured to Runt, stroking her headknobs. She chuckled at Z'fre's flit, she couldn't fault the fat thing for doing everything he could to get some of the meat in the bowl.
Kindra's stomach growled when they reached the kitchens again, she took no notice of the Silver rider that passed her without a second glance, it wasn't that she wasn't important, just that she couldn't be expected to remember EVERYONE all the time. "Oh. no sweetner for me thank you, it's more refreshing without" she smiled widely, letting her eyes wander flirtingly again. If he asked, Kindra would be more than happy to share the meat with the Bronzerider's flits, there was more in the bowl than Runt could manage, Patches was being lazy again and Fury was over protective of Kindra's new things. Not for the first time Kindra was glad of the Gold, young as she was.
She frowned when she noticed the girl bump into Z'fer but was too far away to do anything about it except glare at the silver rider's back.

"Haha! Could be! Z'fer freely returned Kindra's flirting looks. Her not so subtle interest made him regret not catching her for conversation sooner. It was refreshing not having his malvren reputation known by every person in the weyr as well. Sure rumor spread from the malvren refugees but a rumor in one weyr was different than a well known fact in another.
Another thing he noticed was while she was from Benden she didn't seem too adverse to his black flit. He couldn't remember how she'd responded to Kleos... he'd have to ask the Crimson Wingleader later. Many other Benden folk had reacted exactly as expected when confronted with atypicals. Their distaste ranged from quiet discomfort to out right rage and insults. Z'fer had bore both with a condescending smile. It was fun to make the hide bound dimglows squirm in their new surroundings.
His thoughts were distracted as he picked up one of the many pitchers of klah and two mugs kept warm by the kitchen's wide hearth. Where his attention normally would have been drawn to the red head almost against his will, this time he didn't even notice her till she literally bumped right into him. Z'fer lifted the pitcher high out of the way in his surprise."Hey!" He blinked in surprise as Klah trilled in recognition. It was the Nice One! His initial offense cooling to pleasure at seeing her, especially with his gift entangled so nicely in her growing hair.
Z'fer chuckled. "It's not just growing dragons and flits that need food." He reached up with his empty hand and touched her hair clip, a small smile played on his face. It froze with a touch of hesitation. He couldn't very well go off and bother Hekate right now...and their normal flirting games would certainly cause trouble for him in front of Kindra. The silver flit around her neck gave him an idea though. He withdrew his hand quickly and half turned to snag a third mug from the clean collection. "Here, I've got someone I want you to meet." He jerked his head back out into the main hall and led her towards Kindra.
"Kindra, I hope you don't mind a bit of company." He flashed his smile at her and gave a slight eyebrow raise. "My friend here had the same idea we did." He didn't know if it was true or not but he slid into the introductions quickly and smoothly, hopefully she wouldn't object and make things awkward. "Kindra, this is Trine's silver Weyrling Hekate. Hekate, Benden's Jr. Weyrwoman Kindra. We were just setting down to feed the bottomless pits and our flits as well." Another smile at his own joke. Z'fer proceeded to quickly pour klah into the three mugs, offering the first to Kindra and the second to Hekate. Even as he carefully treaded a line between the two women he kept an eye out for a drudge he could call over to get them food.

"Hello to you too Klah." Hekate greeted giving the little black flit a smile even as Prince blinked and raised his shining silver head to trill a sleepy hello at his fellow flit. "Why I thought a proud bronzerider like yourself wouldn't be caught dead rummaging through the kitchens like a hungry weyrling like myself." She joked grinning at him warmly though it took more self-control then she was proud of not to blush as he reached out and stroked the shining feline clip in her hair that was Hekate's most prized possession. When he moved his hand back though and grabbed a third cup of klah mentioning he had someone he wanted her to meet Hekate blinked half turning to following him. Noticing their direction however she tried not to scowl as he lead her along to a table where Benden's Jr. Weyrwoman sat.
As Z'fer and her approached she flashed the woman a smile as the bronzerider went about making his quick introductions. It was one of her better ones really, warm with only the slightest tinge of darkness and it didn't appear the least bit as strained of a greeting as Hekate felt it was. "Well met and my apologies for interrupting." Hekate replied as she slid into her seat across from the woman happy to have the rough hewn table putting some distance between her and the goldrider.
"I keep forgetting that Klah doesn't hunt. Well at least that explains why the little black keeps giving me such pleading looks." She added with a chuckle reaching a hand out to scratch the little black's eyeridges affectionately where he perched on his owner's shoulder. "Not that he's not round enough to be a truddlebug himself." Hekate joked giving the little black's head one last pat before picking up her mug and taking a sip. . .hmm no cream or sugar it seemed. She'd have to see about flagging down someone for some. Shrugging it off however Hekate reminded herself she'd had worse and took another sip her own silver flit Prince rising on his haunches to chitter and carefully groom back a few stray rich blood red strands of hair Z'fer's earlier actions had disturbed. He was however careful to avoid the shining rather vicious looking feline clip as Prince was still unsure whether the piece of jewelry was alive or not and had decided it was better to war on the side of caution.
"I see you've got a hatchling green weyrwoman. I'm somewhat surprised my three haven't shown up yet, but they're likely still asleep. We'll probably be seeing my brown Baron here soon. Does yours have a name?" She asked knowing Z'fer expected her to make polite conversation with the other woman even if Hekate felt more inclined to chew off her own foot.
Sure as she predicted with a cheep of triumph her large brown flit appeared mid-air from between to give Hekate a needed distraction. In his grip he held a still dripping bleeding corpse of a hatchling tunnelsnake that was his prey and breakfast that morning. Trilling and puffing his chest out with pride Baron dropped the dead corpse of his kill on the bench beside Hekate landing on it to beam up at his owner. Look! Look what a good hunter he was! He had brought his kill back to his beloved owner to be admired!
And admired it was as Hekate burst out laughing reaching a hand out to pet her beloved firelizards head ignoring the fact the brown was rather covered in dirt and blood. "Yes it's a very good kill Baron." Hekate assured him even Prince trilling his compliments as Hekate picked up the corpse flipping it over to find the little brown had made a clean kill right at the base of the tunnelsnakes skull. "Very nice." She added setting the dead creature back down and giving the brown another pat. "Why don't you go show the others then enjoy your breakfast while I enjoy mine hmm?" Hekate suggested as the brown took grip of the dead tunnelsnake once more trilling happily at the idea and betweened to go seek out the rest of his flock before he would dine.
"Flits~" She began taking a sip of her klah and smiling over the brim at her companions with vicious pride at her firelizards kill. "If it's not spinners, it's tunnelsnakes. I'll have to ask Baron where he found it. Can't have a nest of them getting loose in the Weyr right now. Not when we've been dealing with their ilk enough." Hekate added with a chuckle her thoughts lingering on the recent betrayals and wher attacks.

Kindra eyed the affectionate way Z'fer touched the clip in the Silver rider's hair and she bristled a little, though she covered it quickly as Z'fer steered the red haired girl over towards her and she groaned inwardly. She didn't bother to get up when Z'fer introduced them but she did manage a polite smile and a nod. "It seems the flits are all hungry at the same time" she said calmly, while her tone wasn't overly friendly, it was lacking some of the snap she might have used otherwise. "There is enough in the bowl for them all"
She notice the affection that the black flit had for the red head and it drew her gaze to the silver draped around the girl's neck .. shards was this Weyr purposefully breeding useless pets?... she kept her face a polite smile however, fighting to keep a mask of political nice-ness on her features. She almost didn't catch the question from Hekate, lost in her thoughts on the oddly colored flits. They were never really a problem at Benden, there were the odd few but generally not even dud flit eggs were cracked. "Oh... yes i got her egg at the Gather, her name is Runt" she said carefully, "She doesn't need the care yours obviously does" she added quietly before she could stop herself but she didn't have the grace to look sorry for her comment.
Luck came in a brown flit toting a Tunnelsnake, which hopefully distracted the silver rider from overhearing her last comment. Even she caught the pride that the brown felt at his catch and couldn't help but feel a smile tugging at the corners of her mouth. She was less than pleased at the girl's casual handling of the creature however, really? .. she had to examine it? .. the thing was dead, that was all they needed to know, she frowned for a moment then plastered on a grim smile when Hekate spoke of tunnelsnakes, her own ming going to that sharding Wherhandler "yes... we can't be too careful with... tunnelsnakes" she replied, her voice edged with hardness as she thought of Benden and what they'd ALL had to suffer because of that sharding revolution.

"Just like their owners." While the women made their small talk he caught a passing drudge and requested three servings of whatever the kitchen was cooking at this hour. They had their klah and he was hungry enough to eat anything at the moment. He kept half an ear on their conversation, his interest perking as he heard the barbed undercurrent to their words. It was almost too perfect.
Klah trilled happily, he'd understood Kindra's words well enough and toddled right up to the edge of the bowl with little hesitation, reaching in and nabbing a nice little chunk for himself.
Z'fer chuckled and smiled up at Kindra over his steaming mug. "That's about as close to hunting as he gets. As I said before, he put that ability of Where to good use. Hardly even bothers to fly when he can just between to where he wants to be." Hekate might have missed Kindra's comment, he wasn't sure, but he hadn't. "Once they reach their foll growth they're not that bad. Klah is the exception not the rule. Until then they do require a lot of upkeep. For being a little pest I got lucky with him. That's not all fat there." He left any comments about their larger cousins to Hekate. He could admit to himself that while he was wholly in support of atypicals as dragons, he didn't have the experience she did. Even caring for a massive bronze wasn't the same as caring for a silver. Calanoth had never had weakness or sickness. He was a robust beast and Z'fer had had it easy during their weyrlinghood.
The brown's entrance with his kill made little impression on Z'fer. He'd seen plenty worse and not much could put the man off his appetite. The conversation's turn to tunnelsnakes... and their human counterparts fueled that spot of rage in him just the same as it did the women. "That's something we can all agree on." He let the women lead the conversation for now. Hekate, for just being who she was would be a good tool for him to get a feel for Kindra. By himself his opinion would be clouded by a pleasant... and possibly quite willing smile.

Hekate nodded to the little young green trying not to betray her distaste for the name the poor creature had been given and instead for the flit's sake managed an almost warm smile. "Quite the little beauty." She added and felt the Queenrider's slighting words as keenly as any knife to her pride. An injury that would not go unnoticed as the Weyrling tilted her head a mischevious grin tugging at her lips even as she felt her dragon's tempter rise. However Kindra was hers to deal with, not Devith's.
"I could see how atypicals might pose too much of a challenge for someone only used to caring for common colors. After all it's a longer investment and not for those who lack the patience to plan for their prize, but I find the pay off is most rewarding~" Hekate purred lifting a hand to stroke Prince's little shining silver head from where he lay curled around her neck a low thrumming croon echoing from his throat at her attention.
Turning she nodded to Z'fer in acknowledgement. "As Z'fer himself said blacks are experts at knowing exactly Where they are. Making their larger cousins keenly capable of taking out rogue bits of thread that other riders might have missed and that would be too dangerous for any other dragon to swoop for. Crimsons too if they choose to flame are as steady as any brown and those that choose to breed are as fierce in protecting their homes as even the great golden Queens." She replied chuckling as she watched Klah waddle over to the bowl of meat. It was clear to Z'fer that while lessons had been interrupted for the Weyrlings that while Hekate might sometimes feign disinterest in the Weyr that she was paying keen attention nonetheless to it's workings as were detailed in the classes she did attend.
"Even The Wingleader's little black IF he ever bothered to give him a bit of training would probably make an excellent messenger flit. He'd be able to drop a scroll right on our heads." Hekate added with a light laugh giving Z'fer's shoulder a playful nudge as she teased him about the blatant lack of training of his rolly polly Klah. However since he was getting the three of them food she wasn't too inclined to heckle the bronzerider as much as she would normally. However as she returned to the conversation at hand her mirth faded and as she eyed the Queenrider before her Hekate grew a touch more solemn.
Lacing her fingers together in front of her she peered over them at the brown haired woman before her and in that moment the years and tragedy she had seen seemed to weigh on Hekate. Her usually bright gold eyes grew hard and her dark teasing tone took an edge to it Z'fer had never heard. "As an atypical rider and the only silver rider of my clutch I can safely say caring for Devith is a challenge. While Devith is a rather healthy dragon for an atypical there's always the looming threat of sickness. He suffers muscle pains the same as your gold did if not worse for his rapid expansion in size and there's the fact with how stubborn he is nothing short of a very forceful Queen can call him to order if he doesn't want to come to order~" Hekate began drawing an indignant rumble from her dragon, but the red haired woman held up a hand, the silent command clear as her eyes softened with affection for her lifebond. "However Weyrwoman my dragon will be capable of holding a flame hotter, brighter and longer then any bronze dragon could ever dream of producing to sear our age old enemy from the sky. For such great firepower I see the extra time it takes to care for him as a small price in trade for producing a safer Weyr." Hekate finished with a keen smile Z'fer's comment about tunnelsnakes drawing a chuckle from her and seeming to break the spell of solemn and almost dangerous silence that had fallen over the woman.
"A safer and hopefully tunnelsnake free Weyr since with only a few Handlers about it's left to poor candidates and Weyrlings like myself to deal with the pests." She added feigning youthful exasperation at the chore that was surely ahead of her and letting the others draw their own context from her words.
"Perhaps I can talk some of the others who have larger flits into helping me rut out the nest. Do you think gold flits would be any good at it Weyrwoman? They are they biggest. I'll have to see if I can set some of my greens looking for firestone so we can flame the nest. Much easier then going in there with nothing, but a knife and a couple of flits using their claws." Hekate mused with a shake of her head filing it away to be dealt with later after breakfast and Devith's bath and oiling.
