The afternoon was getting close to an end now and Mavi sat upon the hill looking over one of the race tracks. She was exhausted today after her duties and her back was killing her. Usually she was still raring to go but today was different because she was heavily pregnant. Her belly was big and wide with cubs. The extra weight was what was causing her back to ache and her exhaustion. The race track she was looking at was the very last one she had visited to check the cheetah's that were racing there now.
She knew she couldn't leave yet though because if any of the cheetah's got hurt she knew she would have to go back down there to treat the injured cheetah. While she was watching the race her mind went back to her escapade in the rogue lands that had got her pregnant. She'd gone out to find some herbs and instead she had found a handsome rogue. He had managed to seduce her and after a one night stand had left her before she had even woke up. She'd felt used by the male but when she found out she was pregnant she was actually excited. She had delivered cubs many times and she just loved seeing the expression on the mothers face the moment she seen her cubs. She was nervous too though because she also knew how much pain the mothers had been in before they were able to reach the point where they got to see their cubs.

Per'roth had been sympathic when Mavi had revealed she'd been seduced in the roguelands. How typical of males. She felt that if she'd gone instead of stayed to train that it would never have happened. Good came with the bad though. While she'd been seduced, she also had gotten cubs out of it.
The cheetahess was delighted her lion owner was going to have cubs when she'd found it. In truth, she was very much looking forward to it. Waiting with Mavi for the expectant cubs almost made her want her own cubs. Per'roth was positive Mavi wouldn't let her race though while she was pregnant. Figuring the lioness would be exhausted by her duties, she took the afternoon off to go join her.
"There you are!" The purple cheetah called as she trotted up to Mavi. "How's it going?"

Mavi didn't blame Per'roth for what the male had done. She was used to going alone into the rogue lands so having Per'roth to come with her was new and she didn't mind if Per prefered to stay behind and train. She knew well that Per wanted to win races so training was a much better use of her time. She was very happy though to have Per'roth. She considered her family now and this experience was one she would not want to go through without her.
As Per walked up she smiled at her. "Afternoon Per'roth. It's going ok. I managed to get through my rounds now I'm just waiting for the race to end and see if anyone needs attending." She told her while twitching her tail back and forth. "The cubs seem to be very active too. They're kicking up a storm."magnadearel My daughter and husband just got home. My daughter wants to go outside so I'll be back in a bit.

The cheetahess plunked herself down by the lioness. Her eyes turned toward the races going on. She flicked an ear and shook her head. "Well hopefully no one needs you. Really they should have gotten someone to fill in for you when you got so bloated." A grin flickered on her lips as she teased the lioness about her current enlarged state. Per'roth had the idea that Mavi should be resting.
"Ah are they?" She gave a knowledgeable nod, with an ignorant expression. "Too much racing excitement clearly. Do you think they'll be coming soon?" Per'roth wasn't sure if Mavi would allow her to be around when it came time for the birth. She'd been working up her courage ever since she'd found out. Mavi took such good care of her, and Per wanted to help now in return.

Mavi smiled at Per and giggled. “Oh they tried to get someone to take on my duties but I refused to let them. I told them unless I was in danger of losing my cubs I would work until I went into labor.” She told her. Mavi knew Per was teasing her and she didn’t mind at all. She enjoyed the teasing and even at times tried teasing Per back. Mavi was so glad to have Per in her life. Per was more like a sister to her now than her racing cheetah.
“Oh yes. They seem to move most when the crowds scream. I think the noise might scare them.” She replied as she looked down to the race track below. The crowds were beginning to disperse as the race had ended. Mavi scanned the crowd for anyone who might be looking for her. The others had told her they would call for her if she was needed at the end of the race so she wouldn’t have to walk too much to do her rounds again on the cheetahs. So far she didn’t see anyone or hear anyone calling for her.
“I’m hoping they come soon. I think if I get much bigger then I’m not going to be able to walk.” Mavi said with a smile. She was rather nervous of giving birth and still wasn’t sure about what she planned to do during the birth. She wanted Per to be there if she could but she was nervous to ask because birth was such a messy ordeal and she wasn’t sure if Per would really want to witness such an event.

Per heaved a sigh and shook her head. "I don't know why you'd do that. It certainly couldn't have hurt to take the last month off." The purple female breathed out to fluff her bangs away from her eyes. "Really the newbie healers need the practice," she laughed teasing. "Oh speaking of newbies. When are you going to get an apprentice? Or are you waiting for the cubs to train them?"
She tossed her head and chuckled. "I don't blame them. It does get a bit rowdy sometimes. I'm sure they'll come to enjoy it when their older. Per'roth perked her ears and followed the lioness' gaze down. "Looks like all's calm. I don't see anyone flailing or screaming." Her eyes flickered back to Mavi and she snorted. "Well good! I can totally see the cheetahs coming to you for the checkup instead of you walking around all the time." The idea made her grin mischiviously.
This was as good a time as any, and likely one of the best chances before the cubs came. "So, have you picked who you're going to take into the den with you?" It sounded stupid and Per glanced away.

Mavi gave Per a sheepish smile and laid her ears back against her head. "I would have gone stir crazy with nothing to do. How boring to sit and watch the world go by. I prefer to be in the middle of it with the ones who take life by the horns and get jabbed. They need someone to fix them after it's over." She said with a laugh. Her view on healing was the individuals with no care for their safety are the ones who keep the healers busy.
At Per's question about an apprentice she blinked and pondered. "I hadn't really thought about it. I guess if one of my cubs is interested I'll teach them if not I'll see if any others would like to learn. I think one of M'Dimu's cubs was interested in being a healer but M'Dimu will probably want to teach the cub herself." Mavi replied with a shrug. She would find an apprentice sometime even if it had to wait a bit. Some cub would come around and want to learn eventually.
Mavi giggled at Per's comment about the cheetah's coming to her. "Some have though most still stay in their areas. I think some are uncomfortable going into another cheetah's area to be checked. I'm not too worried on it. The exercise is good. I tell all pregnant mom's to get exercise so I got to set an example for them." She replied as she flicked her tail. "I have been thinking about who I want to be there with me and the only one I could think of that I would really want to be there would be you." Mavi said it all a bit sheepishly while not looking directly at Per. She was nervous Per would get upset. "If you don't want to that's ok though. Birth is a bit messy so I would understand if you'd prefer not to be there."

The cheetahess had to giggle at the look on Mavi's face. When hadn't the lioness been on the go? Per put on a hurt face and pretended to be offended as she waved a paw at her own chest. "What am I? Minced liver?" She pouted a moment before relenting with a laugh. "Oh I know Mavi, but it would only have been for a month or so. There are plenty of healers to see the few idiotic cheetahs that have to hurt themselves in a race. You don't have to go around seeing every one. That just gives the others an excuse to be lazy." She flicked her tail at that.
"You're a good healer. Don't rush getting an apprentice until the right one comes along." She gave a soft purr. Per would almost bet that one or both cubs would be interested in healing. Her head tilted slightly as she pondered a mother training her own cubs. Would it be better to have someone not related training them? The other option would be to start with mom, but have someone else finish the advance training. Per glanced at her companion and wondered how she'd feel about it.
"What?!" Per sputtered a moment then scoffed. "This pride does not define areas where cheetahs can and can't go. That's simply rediculous! I say those cheetahs are just too lazy for their own good, and get too attached to their healers. Take this for example. What would happen if their healer got pregnant? Not everyone has your dedication Mavi. They'd have to do without their normal healer for a month maybe more! What are they not gonna race during that time?" The cheetahess scoffed again at the stupid idea. Clearly she needed to talk to some cheetahs.
The purple cheetah perked up with a broad smile. "I know you'll want a midwife too, don't argue with me. Sure you're a healer but you can't be healer and birth the cubs at the same time." She teased because she was sure that's exactly what the lioness might try to do. "I would be honored to attend." An infectious grin crossed her face as she started to laugh. "Oh what? So if I ever want cubs of my own, I suppose I can just check out during the birth? I don't think a little messy business is going to bother me."

Mavi grimaced at Per's first comment. "I didn't mean it like that." She laughed awkwardly. "I just love what I do Per. Making others feel better even if it was stupid antics tha got them there. That also gives me an excuse to lecture them on being safe with their actions."
Mavi smiled at Per's compliment feeling a bit embarrassed. "Thank you Per. Whoever becomes my apprentice will end up being a good healer. I'll use every teaching technique my teacher used. He was a wonderful healer too."
Mavi had to laugh at Per's reaction about the cheetah's. "Ah Per some cheetah's just know when they like someone. I bet even you have a favorite." Mavi winked at her and grinned. It almost couldnt be helped with some. Favoritism was a normal thing.
Mavi pouted at Per's comment about a midwife. "Aw I wanted to test out my skills on myself." She was playfully joking. She knew well that while in pain it was difficult for anyone to think straight and she wasn't going to risk herself and her babies by trying to do it herself. "That would be a nice ability to have. Check out while your in pain and go have a nice vacation somewhere else." She replied still being playful with her.

She rolled her eyes. Boy did those cheetahs need a lecture! It would extend the time between races if they hurt themselves each time. Per reached out a paw and patted her friend. "I know you do, and I'm glad. It'd be horrible to have a healer who hated what they did."
The cheetahess nodded. She knew from experience that Mavi was one of the better healers in the pride. So much so that she should have several apprentices to teach. Maybe having a talk with some of the other young lions might not be a bad idea.
"Like maybe yes. That doesn't mean it should stop them from being seen by another healer." Per playfully stick her nose up in the air. "Well maybe I do and maybe I don't. Even if I did, that doesn't mean I won't allow myself to be checked on by another if my favorite is disposed at the time. Ya'know with cubs maybe?"
Per shook her head. "Sometimes you are a little too dedicated I believe. Relax and let someone else take over. Mmmmmm that would be handy wouldn't it? Perhaps if you get your midwife picked out early enough you could ask them about something that might ease the pain if you don't know already." She snickered. "You don't want to check out too far, or you might miss the birth though."

Mavi chuckled at Per's words of healers who hated what they do. "It's sad but I've seen a few who are like that but they usually are just training to become healers. Those ones are trying to impress someone and if I can I try to convince them they should follow their dreams."
"Oh if they absolutely need to they'll see another healer." She replied with a grin. "I like the thought that they like me so much they wont see another healer." She really did like that thought. It made her feel loved by the pride community.
Mavi layed her ears back on her head and chuckled. "I can't relax too much though or I'll get fat." She stated secretly a bit afraid to gain too much weight and be fat after she has the cubs. "That's a good idea. I think I know of a few types of plants that might help at least take the edge off. You're probably right though. Checking out might be a bad idea. I wouldn't want to miss their birth."

The cheetahess stretched and stood up. "Well that's neither here nor there now. They'll do what they want, and maybe grow out of it or maybe not." She nodded. The cheetahs knew they had to see a healer before a race. No ands, ifs, or buts about it. They'd do what they had to to race. By far a pleasant healer was better than a sour healer.
"C'mon pregnant lady. Funs all over for today. Let's get you back to your den, and maybe your cubs will come soon with any luck. That'll ease at least one burden. Though I think you should wait a week before returning to work." Per had a feeling the lioness might change her mind about being so dedicated to healing after the cubs were born. First there was the birth, and second there'd be those adorable tiny cubs. She doubted the female would be able to really tear herself away for the first week.
"Pft. I doubt you'll have to worry about that." She nodded with a laugh, "good then. I'm sure they wouldn't want you too either." Per walked with the lioness to be sure she returned to her den to rest.
