Erumara Minuialwen’s long tail rested on the ground behind her and her legs were tucked up comfortably under her . Her wings were flaried out on either side of her as she took deep breaths. She had spent most of the day flying and was tired. She knew she shouldn’t be here but she was too tired to just fly home. Now she was here in the badlands and she knew this was not friendly territory with the Six’s war going on. Looking around nervously she was happy not to see anyone. She was sure there were some kind Azrein amongst the six, but there were many many more who weren’t. Closing her eyes she kept her wings out to cool off more. She wondered if it would be safe to take a nap. She was so very tired. Then she could get up and go find some water. Water sounded good but her muscles hurt to much to be thinking of getting up right now. Laying her head down she wished she had found a spot with more shade. She was miserable as she was now.

Me’urra figured he must be getting close now. He had seen an Azrein in the sky flying over the badlands. He had almost missed it since it blended so well with the sky around it. Then it had been foolish enough to fly in front of one of the few clouds in the sky. Racing along he thought to find out more about it but he couldn’t keep up since he had to move along the ground and had more obsicles in the way. Coming over a rise he saw a light blue splotch on the ground. This had to be the Azrein he had been chasig. Creeping closer he derteminded it to be a female and she seemed to be sleeping. Smirking he came even closer being as quite as his hooves would let him on the rocks. He circled her and confirmed she was sleeping before coming even closer. Now he could jump and land on her if he did a hop. Instead he looked her over and noticed her sides where heaving even more than his own. He wondered how far she had flown to acheve such an effect.

She wasn’t sure how long she rested it didn’t feel like long enough. In fact it felt like she had just dosed off but something was screaming at her in her mind to get up and look around. She ignored it until she head a peddle bounce near her. She twitched. Nothing should move next to her since she was all alone. At least she had been. Opening her eyes she gasped and skittered back shocked. Right infront of her was an Azerin staring down at her. It was a stalion with a long white tail and mane. He didn’t seem mean but she wasn’t exactly on the outskirts of the city anymore. She stood up quickly slapping her wings against her sides to knock the dirt off. She also used standign up to give herself some distance between her and him. Erumara wasn’t just scared she was terrified beyond belief. She wished that her friend Caladwen Eruliss was with her, though perhaps not if this was an evil Azrein. She didn’t want to be alone right now.

Funny the mare was clearly scared but what Me’urra noticed most where her wings. This mare had the freedom of flight and could run off at any time. It would be almost a shame to lose her again after just finding her. Even if she did take off he didn’t she could get far, she seemed to be on her last legs as it was. “My sincerest apologies at interrupting you nap, but I wouldn’t recommend sleeping in the open sun. You’ll attract attention with a coat like that and of course you could just get to hot and die. Unless that’s what you intended, in which case my apologies on interrupting your suicide.” He was nothing if not polite after all it was a personal strength for him. He relished in the look of shock that crossed her face and the confusion that followed. Whatever it was she expected here, he was not it. He rather enjoyed putting others off their expectations, after all they let such interesting things slip when they were frazzled.

Wait what was going on? He wasn’t there to attack her? She was unsure how to take this. He was polite and kind. Erumara had expected that when she met an Azrein living her that she would be attacked on sight. A part of her felt guilty for having been so rude to him. “umm.. I .. ah.” Oh this was embarrassing she was so mortified with herself. “M-my name is Erumara. I’m sorry for reacting the way I did, but I’m afraid you startled me.” A blush was grazing her face. This stallion didn’t seem violent or mean at all. He had even likely saved her from making a large mistake that would have cost her life. “T-Thank you for waiting me up I didn’t think.. I was so tired from flying that I just wanted to rest.” Already tired and dehydrated she felt like her tongue was fuzzy and weighed four times its normal weight. She cleared her throat self consciously. “umm do you live here?” It was a strange question but she really wasn’t sure what to make of the male.

“Erumara, what a lovely name. My own is Me’urra.” He chuckled darkly. “Don’t worry so much. I promise I don’t take offense so easily. Though seeing you this offset is quite amusing.” He smiled warmly. “Yes I do live here. Would you like to be lead to some water? If you don’t mind me saying you seem a bit mm dry?” He watched as the mare’s eyes bugged out a bit and she looked around uncertain. “Oh you needn’t worry about others interrupting us. You and I are far enough away from my mother’s herd that no others will be close by to hassle you.” He smirked at her look at him this time. “What you think all Azrein on this side of the isle are blood thirsty monsters who only seek to harm and kill, oh and torture, let’s not forget torture.” His voice was coated in a light sarcasm as he rolled his eyes. Judging from the gulp the female had clearly that was right along with her general line of thought. “Mmm and here I thought all you Azrein everywhere else where trusting and loving capable of seeing past a front.”

Me’urra shamed her. Feeling it down to the core of her soul she wished she had a way to prove that wasn’t what she had been thinking, but it was. Her head was bowed and her wings drooped. She was going to apologize for misjudging him when she heard him moving. Peeking up shyly she saw he was walking away. Jerking her head back up she started to follow. “S-sorry. You’re right that was wrong of me. I-I just always grew up with such stories so I figured that was how most Azrein here were. I know that not everyone is, but I don’t really know how to tell since this is my first time so far south. I am really sorry. I know you probably don’t believe me but I am.” She had to take a few breaths after her winded apology. It wouldn’t have been so bad but she was so very thirsty. The male didn’t slow down and it was so warm the ground in the distance looked a bit hazy. She wanted to ask him if he would be willing to take her to water, but she had just insulted him and perhaps even more deeply than he let on. Erumara couldn’t even imagine not being trusted. Things were so different back in the greater plains there were so many god Azrein that one could talk to anyone without worry. Here being nice might be something that was bad or hidden for an Azrein’s own safety.

Letting the mare stew for a while he kept walking at a comfortable pace; just fast enough that the mare had to hurry and sometimes nearly break into a trot, but not fast enough to make her fall yet. He navigated the terrain with no problem and knew where he was head. Small pebbles he easily kicked aside before he put his full weight down with his hooves. The female hadn’t figured this out yet and was making twice the noise he was with the pebbles. The mare’s bright blue seemed so cheery despite the beads of sweat on her flanks. Part of her mane kept flopping down in front of her eyes forcing her to have to toss her head every so often. He did feel some pity for her there. He knew what it was like to have stay locks get in the way of seeing anything. All in the foolish mare seemed frail and weak. Perhaps it was only temporary. Deciding he had been silent long enough he chose to stop punishing her. “I don’t have to like it, but I do understand your caution. It’s a wise choice to take in this land. You don’t know who to trust, in fact if you were smart you wouldn’t trust. I never would have come to help you had I not seen you flying this way from across the border. So can you tell me why you’re here?”

“I was flying and the air got more violent. I know it doesn’t seem like it but the air gets swift and hard up high. The chill is worse than anything you could guess. Followed it here.” Her blue eyes took on a wistful look. She wanted to say more but her throat hurt and her voice was starting to sound like a croak. That was something that she could talk endlessly about. The sky was amazing and never ending to her. Even in the midst of a violent storm where fear clenched at her insides and ice was crusting the tips of her feathers. Riding the wind was one of the greatest pleasures of the world. She had been in the throes of such weather in the Greater Plains and had ridden it all the way down here to the badlands. This was why she was exhausted, sore, and simply unable to continue flying. The storm had long since blown itself out but Erumara had been enthralled and compelled to keep going along the currents. Her muscles screamed at her for having to move so fast to keep up with the male. She didn’t even know where he was taking her, but that didn’t occur to Erumara. She was lost in the sweet memories of the wind.

Well she was certainly an easy one to distract wasn’t she? Still at least she seemed so honest about it Me’urra wanted to laugh. Was it always to be this easy with mares? He had known a few and so far the only one who held things back from him were those like Talu who had one secret that he would yet ferret out and his mother who’s mind he didn’t care to even try and figure out. The same was true of the mares his mother knew. Nocturne was open and honest because she didn’t know how to lie, and this Erumara was a simple thing so easily lead to where ever he wanted to go. Still he didn’t mean her any harm at the moment so there really wasn’t an issue with her trusting him. “Don’t worry just a bit further and we’ll reach a spot where you can drink. I promise.” Mmm.. the mare had a rather intoxicating scent about her. Me’urra pondered it quietly to himself as he led her down a crack in the land. It was invisible to anyone unless they knew it was there. It was in the shadow of a large upward surge of jagged rock so it seemed to be nothing but a shadow. That scent it was almost as if she were.. no that couldn’t be right. None of the king’s Azrein would be so foolish.

Really? Oh that was wonderful. Erumara felt a bit lightheaded as she followed him. She was glad that he was so nice to take care of her when she was so weak and had even been rude enough to insult him. He really was a nice stallion. Very handsome too. Erumara liked the white long untamed mane of his. It made him look very elegant and graceful when he moved. Shaking her head she tried to stop thinking like that. She didn’t even know him well. She could hear a trickle of water as they moved underground. Still following him she was surprised when he stopped. She looked around. It was a small cavern barely with enough room for both of them. The trickle of water was louder here but she didn’t see it until he had backup sliding by her toward the exit. There was a small steady drip of water out of the rock forming a small shallow pool. It wasn’t much but it was water and that made it perfectly fine to Erumara. Eagerly she hurried forward and began to drink. The pool was so small she could only get a mouthful at a time but oh how sweet that mouthful tasted. She lapped up several gulps of water before she realized she really should thank Me’urra for taking her here.

As he backed past her he took a deep sniff that she would have definitely noticed. Strange ah well if she was too focused on the water it worked even better for him. He couldn’t believe it. The stupid mare was in her time. He couldn’t believe that any of the King’s kind would come into the land of the Six with their bodies ready to be taken, but clearly he hadn’t seen enough of the world if there were others like Erumara. She was weakened from her flight, the heat, and the pace he had set to get here. Even if he hadn’t thought to hurt her he couldn’t let such an opportunity pass. He came up behind her and took his chance to pounce her. Her body jerked in shock at the added. As he started she seemed to finally realize the situation and tried to fight back but it was too late. He knew he had a good hold on her.

No! Her mind and body convulsed as she realized what was happening to her she was already in pain but that didn’t seem to lessen the pain of what the male was doing to her. She tried to smack him with her wing but when she stretched them out all she found was more pain as one of her wings struck the wall and his hooves fund the sensitive flesh at the base of her wings she tried to turn her head but only managed to turn it in time to get struck by the head of the monster that was on top of her. She couldn’t go forward or the sides she was trapped in this pit and she had willingly followed him here. Trying in vain to rear she found his weight to be too much but rather than just falling to all fours like she should have her front legs could take no more punishment. They crumbled and she pitched forward hearing a sickening crack as her jaw hit the floor of the cavern. Even that didn’t stop him. He just kept going causing her more pain. She struggled in vain for a bit more before surrendering to the hopeless feeling that was born.

What had he done? Staring down at the sobbing mare he was surprised at himself. Me’urra had never lost control like that before and that scared him. He felt no pity or remorse for his actions but was disappointed with himself for having not taken the time to fully look at his options and consider the ramifications of his act. Her legs were cut and bleeding from the cave floor. It probably happened when she fell. She was so small and so frail. He leaned down and whispered to her. “Now then if you ever get lost in this land again you could always get by if you tell them that you belong to me. Not so bad a trade for safe enough passage in land where many others would kill you.” The smirk that crossed his maw was a cool cruel one. With that he turned and left. She was breathing and would be well enough in time. He was satisfied with that. There had also been truth in his words. He would do what he could to protect the mare if she ever came back to this land. He did feel he owed her that much.

Was that some kind of sick joke? All this pain for safe passage in the future? The six were monsters and so clearly were those that inhabited their lands. She heard him leave and didn’t move for a long time the drip of water was steady and her injuries throbbed in pain. She wasn’t sure how long she stayed there. It could have been hours or days. It felt like it was forever. She cried for a time and then feel sleep. When she woke again it was cooler. Night must have fallen. She was still sore but she wanted to leave this place. Being here was painful. She pulled herself up and found out that she was shaking. Gasping she turned about in the little cave and started to walk out. She was right it was dark out. The night sky twinkled merrily mocking her. She started to cry again. She headed north.
