Okay, for something so ordinary (and you can't even understand it), ain't it a wonder how it got this famous? I myself have watched it, but not because of the song itself... I just like seeing the guy in yellow dance sweatdrop

I often wonder as well how it got famous... it's nothing to weird and also it's Korean! I would have never expected something in a different language to become this famous in the US... maybe it's the "ayyy sexxy laday~: part... I don't know.

"Numa Numa", or "Dragostea din tei" became famous in the US, and it's not in english. All it really needs is to be catchy, though I honestly think it's the dance that really made Gangnam Style catch on world wide. It's an alright song, but I rather listen to PONPONPON than Gangnam Style.

I don't mind it being in Korean, but yeah, I doubt all the others knew what was being said throughout the song sweatdrop
Or it could be the tune...

I think it's the dance. A lot of people are loving that Gangam Style dance. You can see vids all over youtube of people dancing like Psy in random places like malls and stuff.

If PONPONPON got famous, so would Gangnam Style.
I, personally just enjoy it for the random events that are in it, like the horses that have no reason to be there.
Otherwise, it's pretty overrated.
Like Lost Abyss said, all it really needs is to be catchy and gosh darnit is everything!

I adore Gagnam Style, rofl. Even more so after learning what it's all about.
In short, PSY is presenting a satire on the "Gangnam" lifestyle. Gangnam is a very classy and high-scale neighborhood in Korea, one who people aspire to live in. Think Beverly Hills or someplace along those lines. People there show off their money with frivolous things like being able to go to private beaches, horse racing, night clubs, and other similar things. The video is what mainly addresses these aspects.
Gangnam Style Lyrics Translation
In the English translation of his song, he expresses the desire to find "A classy girl who know how to enjoy the freedom of a cup of coffee," and "A girl who covers herself but is more sexy than a girl who bares it all."
The coffee is making reference to how often Koreans, even those who are just scraping by, will spend their money on fancy coffee (Such as Starbucks) just to have that coffee cup as a status symbol and little more.
Essentially, the lyrics show that he's looking for a real girl who doesn't put on a show for the people who she's trying to impress.
And the song is just really silly, and the video is fun to watch. 3nodding

I enjoyed it when I first heard/watched it with James and my brother.
I heard it on the radio last Friday and have been obsessed with it all weekend...and today!

I like Gangnam Style <3 It's just really catchy and the video is hilarious ~
Although, I hope people don't think K-POP is all "Dress classy, dance cheesy" - there's a bunch of other Korean groups that are wonderful dancers & singers & entertainers & and most importantly, IDOLS emotion_bigheart
