 She hated practicing where everyone could watch. Why did they always have to stare? Fionnuala had thought about asking Aoife to come and cheer her on, but when her half sister had proved busy she'd come by herself. The cheetahess had found a nice place away from the main pride that had some flat places. They let her stretch herself out, without exhausting her. She pranced into place. Nostrils flared as she sucked in deep breaths.
Fion didn't think about anything but getting down the track as fast as she could. She didn't want to think about what a real race might be like. The pre-race inspection; the crowds. When she was ready, the female bolted out. Her paws left little puffs of dust as she went by. She kept her eyes forward and followed her trail. It had taken her days to map it out and clear it of enough debree to be safe to run. And run she did. All too quickly she reached the end. Her sides were heaving a little, but not too bad. She glanced back with a smile.

As he traveled, he noticed a cheetah running. He wasn't quite to the pride, but close enough that he guessed that she might be part of the pride. He watched her with interest as she ran then slowed down. With a gentle smile he walked over to her. He was certain that she could help him out, that she would know about the racing pride and perhaps even be in it. In his opinion she was fast enough to be one of the racers. Though he never seen a cheetah race before.
When he was close enough he said, "Hello there friend," his voice soft and kind. "I noticed that you were running. It was really impressive. Are you apart of the racing pride?" He asked curiously. He was sure to keep his distance. There were many times when he approached others and they were upset by it. From his past mistakes he had learned to keep a fair distance between him and strangers.

"Oh!" Fion blinked in surprise at the white and black cheetah that approached. If she'd known anyone was watching she wouldn't have done that. Well it was done now and he didn't appear to be dangerous. She sat down and nodded slowly. Fion tried not to duck her head shyly. She only looked good because no one else was racing against her.
"Yes I am," she answered softly. Fion took a closer look at the male. "Were you interested?" Was it safe for her to bring this male to the pride? The lions couldn't protect her out here. The cheetahess gave herself a shake. She and her sister didn't need silly lions, wild dogs, or hyenas to protect them.

Was he interested, he wondered. For now no, but if it fit him he thought that he wouldn't mind having a pride to settle down in. "For now I am just curious about the ways of your pride. I've never seen a pride quite like it." He said with a smile. "Is the pride interesting?" If he had been interesting in running he was sure he would be more attracted to the pride. However he wasn't much of a runner and preferred his slow walks.
"I would love to see you in a race. I could cheer you on and have some fun." He said with a nod of his head. He would of course cheer for the cheetah who told him about the pride. It would only be polite. "And, if you want I could even help you train or something. I have no knowledge about the races, but I think I could be of some help to you."

Fion curled her tail around her legs. She gave a nod. Until her and her sister had run acrossed it, neither had they. It was a nice change from lions chasing them away all the time. She thought about it. "I guess it is? The others cheer for those racing." Did the thrill of excitement count as interesting? Fion wasn't sure as she was hesitant to enter a race.
Now she did duck her head. "Oh. I, oh. I'm not so sure I'd be good. My sister loves it." Meaning Aoife was the competetive one. She perked her ears at his offer. Help her train? Normally that was her sister..... But she was busy today. Fion gave him a small smile. "If you want to help, maybe a little? My sister usually helps, but she's busy today. Do you want to race with me? My track isn't as good as the normal race tracks."

"Aw, I can't wait to see one of the races," he said excitedly. He glanced at the race track, imagining himself running down it. As he did so, he let out a soft laugh. He could see himself tripping at some point, but he thought it would be fun just to try it once. He thought of the stories he could tell, how amazing they would be.
"I would love to have a short race. I don't mind if the track isn't that good. To be honest, I probably won't be that good. It's still worth a shot though I think. If it helps you out I would be more then willing to try it out." He said with a grin. He loved helping and was also thankful to have someone to talk to. It would have been pretty boring if he hadn't. Thinking of this made him remember something. "My name is Viveti by the way, it is nice to meet you." He nodded his head toward her.
He walked over to the beginning of the track and stretched his legs. Hopefully he wouldn't fail too miserably, he thought with a grin. "I am ready anytime you are." He said, looking over at her.

"There's usually a number of them every day. Though the big races are only held certain times." She did blink as he accepted even though it was her own idea. Fion was sure that he'd probably beat her, but that was ok. She pranced back to the start with him.
"Thanks. It's nice of you to help Viveti. I'm Fionnuala." She got ready at the line. Now that she had someone where her nerves were getting the best of her. Fion tried to calm herself down with deep breaths and not think about the cheetah racing her. "Alright on the count of three."
"One....."
"Two......"
"Three!"
She held a second after she shouted the word to give the male a chance to react. It hadn't been fair with her counting down and all. To be proper they really needed a third here to do that, and maybe a forth down at the finish line. But this isn't a real race. she thought, and it made her feel a bit better. Fion took off. Her eyes ahead and looking for the finish line.

Viveti hesitated for a moment before taking off. He hadn't ran this fast in a very long time. He tried to keep up with Fionnuala. but at his fastest, was a tail length behind her. It was fun though and thought that, if things were different he would have made a decent runner. At the end to the track, he was proud of himself for not falling over. He slowed down and took a couple deep breaths. "That was a lot of fun," he said with a grin. "I'll have to try it again sometime. Though for now I'll probably need to take a bit of a break. Don't want to over do it."
He stretched his legs again. Hopefully the sudden change of pace wouldn't affect him too much much, he thought. "How many other cheetahs are there like you?" he asked curiously. The races much be spectacular if they were all as fast as her. It made him that much more eager to see the race.
"Once I recover I would love to help you some more with your racing. Perhaps I could even learn a thing or two." He said with a nod of his head. If anything he could teach his future cubs how to race. It would be fun for him and the cubs. He would even try and set up a little race track for them.

The expected passing-by never came. Faintly she could sense the male just a bit behind her. It was a strange feeling coming in first. The end of the track flashed by and Fion slowed to a halt. She turned to face him with a smile. After a couple pants she nodded. "It is. Thank you for running with me." Fion sat down so he could too. Of course she didn't want him to over-do it.
"Quite a few. I wouldn't mind helping you learn if you like. In return for your helping me." She gave a slight timid smile. "Perhaps I should give you a head start so it'll be fairer next time." At least until he got more confident about the whole deal.

"Aw, you're welcome, I think it is good for me to run a little bit." He said with a laugh. "I would be honored to have a teacher like you. A head start would be nice, for a little bit. Eventually I think I could learn how to catch up," his grin growing wider.
Even though he wasn't much of a runner, he thought that, with the right company he could make it work for him. It would be a different change of pace for a while, seeing the world in a different light. "Maybe you could show me the large race tracks, I would love to see those. Imagine running down that with so many cheers. It must be a rush!" He thought, trying to picture it in his head. He could see Fionnuala reaching the finish line, beating the rest of the completion, and him cheering her on. It would be fun to witness. "We could even do a small race back to the pride, though I might be a bit slow." He said laughing. After the first run, he wasn't sure how fast he could go again in such a short time.

"Of course. If you race regularly you'll have to learn how to catch up and surpass any cheetah in the lead." She smiled, confident he could learn this skill. Once he did though, she would no longer need to give him an unfair advantage. "Oooo I think you will like those. Their big and much better than mine. And there's stands which you can watch the races from with a great view." She was more than a bit intimidated by it all. All those lions and cheetahs, and who knew what watching.
"Even a small race might draw a crowd. Everyone here really loves racing. Either as a racer or watching. But if you'd really like to, to see what it's like, then I'd be happy to." He made her feel a confidence she didn't normally feel except with her sister. It would be alright to race him. He'd be happy if either of them won, she thought.

"Thank you so much." Viveti said with a smile. "I can't wait for our next race. It will be one to remember." He nodded his head. His thoughts went to how slow he would look compared to the others. It didn't matter though as long as he had fun and made some friends in the process.
There were so many different experiences he was about to partake in. He couldn't wait to see more of the pride. It would be amazing, he was sure of it. He stuck close to Fionnuala as they traveled back to the pride, though he respected her space. It was enjoyable to have a companion for once to talk to. His travels were mostly lonely, but no more of that. At least for some time.
