Ecliptic was having a pretty good day - she had managed to elude her siblings and her mother for several hours now and while she was sure that meant she'd get a stern talking to when she returned, for the moment she was more then happy and while she knew better then to leave the herd lands..she did like to explore that grey area close to the territory boarder. It was just exciting to be close to a forbidden area and think of the places beyond that she wouldn't be allowed to visit until she was 'older'.
Ecliptic didn't know exactly how old she would have to be before she was allowed to go to these places - no one would tell her despite how often she insisted she wasn't a tiny foal anymore and she could look after herself. As she neared the herd boarder she paused and took a quick look around..no one was in sight of course, but it was always good to check and then giggling she dashed across the invisible line , weaving back and forth across it as she went through the forest, singing to herself "Now I'm home!, Now I'm not!, Now I'm home!, Now I'm not!"

It was hard to be sneaky with such a neurotic father around. Marlowe had learned after several different attempts and excuses that the only way to get around him was to wait until the stallion was napping, which Bernard had taken to do after daily exercises with his son. Granted, the colt was a little tired after each bout, but he knew better than to stick around when the opportunity presented itself.
So naturally Marlowe slipped away as his father nodded off in the shade, fins flicking in the wind as he slowly crept from this patch of shade to that one. Even though he knew his father wasn't after him, he couldn't help but feel a bit apprehensive whenever he snuck away; the guilt of a committing sin almost. So he tensed suddenly at the sound of someone coming close and almost made to hide in the bushels when he realized it was much high pitched than his father and definitely not either of his sisters' voices. Frowning, the colt followed the sound until he saw the darting blue figure winding its way towards him.
And there he just stood and stared with a small frown, ears perked curiously.

It was really hard to miss the bright rainbow colors on the other foal's coat and so when he appeared in front of her Ecliptic skid to a halt and regarded him from a little ways off. Mother was always telling her not to mess with strangers, not to talk to Soquili outside the herd..but then she also wasn't supposed to wander off and this was just another foal..it couldn't be that bad right? He certainly didn't look to dangerous..what with that bright rainbow coat - although the fin things on his head were a touch strange.
Curious enough to disregard her mothers advice Ecliptic trotted closer. "What are those things on your head?" She demanded in a curious tone. They couldn't be wings - or if they were wings they were very confused wings since they weren't in the right spot at all and she couldn't imagine the colt flying with them at all. "I've never seen you here before, I would have remembered someone with a coat like yours." She added, looking him over from hoof to ear tip.

Marlowe stared and stared some more unblinkingly even as she nearly ran into him, for a few moments nothing but the breeze through his hair making movement. And then he blinked owlishly. "Fins," he answered as-a-matter-of-factly, wiggling them a little. "Wings don't belong on heads." Clearly. Where would someone get that idea?
Well no, he couldn't begrudge her the wing things - his fins did look a little bat-like at a distance. He wondered if, had that been so, he might have gotten sharp teeth too . . .
In any case Marlowe didn't appreciate being scrutinized and shifted from hoof to hoof. "I heard you saying something about home?" he prompted to distract her before some sort of stupid rainbow comment could be made. "Why were you bouncing around yelling about it? I heard you before I saw you."

"Well obviously..." Ecliptic responded - what did he think she was stupid or something? She knew wings didn't belong on heads but she'd never seen fins on heads before either and honestly..she thought it was a little bit weird. But he was already moving on to a new subject and Ecliptic didn't feel any need to further make her point about the head fins so she went along with it. For now.
"Oh..well I wasn't trying to be sneaky, if I'd been trying to be sneaky you wouldn't have heard me." She assured him, the colt seemed to think she was some sort of dolt or something. "I was playing a game..this is the edge of my herds territory and I'm not supposed to leave..but I was..because it's fun to do what your not supposed to and the herd is just far to over protective sometimes." She told the colt with a slight roll of her eyes. "What about you..what are you doing out here all alone? Did you run away?."

Marlowe just made a face at the "obviously" comment, since clearly it hadn't been a few moments ago; but like her he didn't pursue the matter. Becoming aware of the fact that he was toeing the line of an unknown herd, however, made him more wary. Was it large? Were they full of Soquili as overprotective as his father? Did they harm strangers who came too close? His eyes darted over his shoulder to make sure he wasn't getting snuck upon; the filly's comment about being a great stalker made him a little concerned that there were others like her.
"...Sort of," Marlowe responded with a tiny shrug. "My father's presence is stifling - overprotective, that is - so I moved away to have some freedom." She didn't need to know what or why he was there, since he didn't quite know what he had been about to do either. "But if I'm in the way of your game or too close to your home, I will leave," he continued politely, as a gentleman should; that much Bernard had managed to ingrain in him. "I'm not looking for trouble; just poison ivy."
These two things were clearly not mutually exclusive.

"Oh I understand how that can be." Ecliptic replied with a slight snort, she loved her family sure, and even the herd but they had so many rules and worries that once in a while she just wanted to get away for a while. "But don't worry I won't rat you out if anyone come's looking for you." She went on with conspiratorial wink. Of course then he offered to leave and while Ecliptic wasn't sure yet if she liked this colt..he seems a bit serious, she was intrigued enough by meeting a new face that she didn't want him to leave just yet either.
"Oh no, no one will care that you came through as long as your family doesn't cause any trouble or anything." She told him "But why do you want poison ivy? It'll make you all itchy and stuff." She asked with a confused tilt of her head, there was no reason that she could think of for someone to want that particular weed..well no that wasn't entirely true, maybe he wanted it to play a trick on a sibling or something?

Marlowe didn't know what to make of her wink and just kept impassive at her assurances. Maybe she would keep her lips tight, maybe she was just telling him that to get his trust faster; he couldn't help but think the worst of strangers, especially ones that had no reservations about bothering other people just because they were seen. Who knew what else those kinds did when impulse set their paths?
In this particular case, the filly seemed pretty quick to state the obvious, and Marlowe almost eye-rolled. "I know that," he said with a terse edge in his voice. "I want to see if I can become immune to its oils by exposing myself to it for several days. Then I can handle it as a weapon if trouble comes my way. I'll make a home and line it with poison ivy so that no-one can bother me unless I let them. It's foolproof."
He was being dead serious about this too. The colt moved to slide past her and continue his search parallel to the invisible borderline.

Ecliptic blinked at the colt..just blinked..at him as he revealed his supposedly master plan. It wasn't until he slid past her that she returned to her senses and wheeling about she trotted after him. "That. Is. Brilliant!" She declared loudly as she followed after him. Never mind the fact that doing what he said would assuredly make her itchy for several long and bothersome days - the serious way in which he'd stated it and the obvious thought behind the plan was enough to make Ecliptic quite sure it could be done. This was a fine smart young colt she'd managed to run into.
Catching up to him she "Are you going to do that with Poison Oak too? What about those berries that are poisonous to eat do you think that if you only ate a teeny tiny bite and then added more over time you could become immune to those too?" She asked him with bright eyes and excited voice. Ecliptic wasn't sure where she would ever need to use such a weapon but hey ..it never hurt to be prepared!
