It had been a day or so since she returned from her visit to the Alpine Usdia herd where Jarita, her best friend, had chosen to raise her family. It had been wonderful to spend time with her friend again and even more wonderful to see that she had finally gotten everything she wished for...but now that she had returned to her own home it was hard not to feel just a little bit..left out.
Jarita had everything, a loving mate, her own family to raise and care for and while yes, Bangil had children - they were both grown and gone doing their own things. At least when that happened to Jarita she would still have Eversong. Bangil had not been that lucky and while she tried not to dwell on the fact that her family was a broken one it came to mind now and again when faced with the sight of a normal family.
Bangil certainly didn't want to spend the rest of her life alone - but as time went on it was looking more and more like that was going to be the case. Sighing heavily she wandered down the stream side path kicking an acorn in front of her and lost in her own thoughts.

Laying in the tall grass beside the stream was Mint,He was going through one of those depressing states again. Tolavan never came back, its been months since he had last seen her.Maybe she just didn't want him? Trying to shrug it off he shook his head and laid his head back down upon the ground. This would be at least the fourth or fifth time Mint had a bad time with love,he mostly missed Maddox, the horned green beast like himself. He smiled at the memories with Maddox, trying his first taste of meat and slowly falling in love with him. Sooner or later after almost getting together something tragic happened and he never got to speak to maddox again. Mint let out a huge sigh and looked around at the stream.Watching the bugs hop around every where and the frogs enjoying their day with splashing in the refreshing water of the stream.Letting his ears droop he started to think about something else.Hoping one day he would find one of those things that you call bestfriends. He always wanted one of those,Stripe was one but she left him for another. Why did his mind always go back to his old lovers. Why couldn't he just get over it.

Given the stallions almost camouflage like coloring it wasn't surprising that Bangil didn't notice him until she had nearly stepped on him. "Oh!" She exclaimed in surprise "I'm terribly sorry I didn't see you laying there, you just blend right in now don't you?" She added with a little chuckle hoping that the stallion laying in the grass was the good tempered sort. She certainly wasn't in the mood to deal with the other type.
Sheer curiosity made her look the stallion over, taking note of the green patches of color on his hide and the two toned make-up of his mane and tail before returning her eyes to his. It wouldn't be polite to just keep walking on now that she'd almost stepped on him..but he seemed a touch out of sorts now that she was really looking at him and if he wasn't in the mood for company she'd just move along when he made that clear and accepted or rejected her apology. Maybe some of Jarita and Char's manners were starting to rub off on her - not long ago she would have just side-stepped the stallion and kept right on going - or maybe she really was just that lonely.

At the last second he managed to move his muzzle before he was nearly stepped on.Looking up at the mare he slowly stood up beside her."No no,now don't worry about that. I am just fine."He gave a slight smile."I do blend in don't I?"He laughed a little with the mare.Mint noticed her markings and the skull/scarf head piece upon her head. She was quite different like all the other stallions and mares he'd seen before. He liked the thought of variety,in his heard they were browns and purples. Shaking his head he looked back to the mare. "I am Mint Chocolate." He gave a glance around them to notice that no one else was around. "Traveling?Or just on a little walk?"He softly said as he gave a little flick to his tail. His deep pink eyes met hers and his cheeks gave a bit more red like down at his chin,he probably looked like a blushing frog at that time. "Erm..."He said a little bit nervously after looking into the mares eyes.Mint was in for the company and maybe she was too.But it seemed like they both were loners just wandering around helplessly."Are you alone?" He said a little while after his first questions.Mint felt like he was rushing just a little bit with this new mare."Well...um.. you don't have to answer those.."Mint didn't want to scare her off and him not have anyone to talk to.He'd be alone all over again.

Oh thank goodness, he didn't seem to be the temperamental irritating sort of stallion that she'd been fond of when she was young - indeed looking back on that chasing after the bad boy types had been a rather stupid decision on her part and a great source of her current predicament. If she'd just found a nice stallion right from the get go none of this would be a problem..but alas, such things did not seem meant to be.
But this stallion seemed nice enough and she could use some company on a day when dreary thoughts kept rearing their ugly head. "Bangil" She introduced herself, bobbing her head politely "It's good to meet you Mint Chocolate...do you normally go by your full name or do you have a Nickname? Mint Perhaps?" It was a bit of a mouthful to go on saying Mint Chocolate every time she wanted to address him, though perhaps she might have waited a bit before bringing that sort of thing up. She was glad that her scarf did much to hide the embarrassed look that flickered across her eyes.
Relieved that he had gone on with the conversation and though he seemed a bit nervous..then again she had just about stepped on him. "I live around her actually, I was just returning from a small trip to visit a friend and her family. I do live here alone though my son sometimes comes to visit, how about you? Passing through? I don't think I've seen you around before? Are you new to the area?"

"Mint is just fine."He gave her a friendly smile."Bangil you say?Very pretty and unique name."Mint nodded his head back at her.Something about her was different, she wasn't too straight forward and she wasn't too shy he thought. But you could never tell on the first random meeting,he certainly hoped she was one of the nice and gentle ones he'd meet. Mint tried to watch her eyes and her movement, but the scarf on her head was somewhat in the way.Shaking his head he started to answer her questions."I live near the river,I was just passing by this stream on my way home when the quietness of this place drew me in.With all the things I've been going through i deserve a little bit of relaxing time."Mint gave out a small chuckle."I am not intruding on your home am I? I mean its kind of rude of me,unless you like visitors." The small blush upon his face faded down just a tad,she made him feel comfortable around her.He kept thinking about something really different about her that caught his eye.

"Thank you." Bangil replied with a bit of an embarrassed shuffle of her hooves, most Soquili thought her name was unusual, but very few considered it pretty. "It's the name of a swamp in my father's homeland." She explained, though that explanation would likely make it less appealing - very few Soquili seemed to like swamps although Bangil found them comforting as she'd spent the greater part of her foalhood growing up in one.
"Sounds like you've had a bit of a rough time lately?" She asked in a sympathetic tone, though she wasn't one to pry into a strangers life she understood the need to talk to someone once in a while and this stallion seemed like maybe he just needed to get a few things off his chest. She didn't mind being the sounding board if that was the case. "You're not intruding." She assured him "It's kind of nice to have someone new to speak with."

"Very welcome." He smiled at her embarrassment."A swamp?" He tilted his head a little bit, didn't maddox like swamps? That didn't matter, why would it?This was his brand new start, after all that love and hate relationships he had."It must've been nice."He said softly looking around them.
"Just a bit."Mint Chocolate shook his head slowly. He sighed softly when he reassured him that he wasn't intruding in her lands.Looking over to her he agreed with her quite a bit."It does feel nice to have someone to talk to doesn't it?Rather than being alone almost all of the time." He really didn't have much of anyone to talk to besides his mother and grandfather. That was pretty much it of anyone who he could talk to,because everyone else left to do their own thing or Mint couldn't take the pain any longer."Have you had problems yourself?"He asked softly, hoping that wouldn't mind talking about their past problems.

"I don't know really, I've never been there though my mother grew up in a different swamp, I always enjoyed it..though I know many Soquili who find such places distasteful." Like her best friend, not that she held that dislike against her friend..she just thought it was silly really...I mean what was the big deal about a little bit of mud? The thought made her smile a little bit before she returned her attention to the present.
"No more then I suppose many Soquili have..I made a bit of a rash decision a while ago and while I certainly don't regret the result, I do love my children..it just..didn't turn out like I had hoped." She shared thought for the life of her she wasn't sure why she was telling him this - except that he seemed easy to talk to and being in a bit of pain himself well..misery did love company now didn't it. "I expect I shouldn't be too sad about it, it is terrible to be lonely but...I'm sure we are much better off then a lot of others.." She offered as a small silver lining, though that sort of optimism rarely seemed to actually help.

Mint nodded slowly to her. "I don't think they are ugly or disgusting, but it is different." He smiled softly. Mint didn't mind playing in the mud or getting a little dirty, there was always the stream and oceans to get clean in."They aren't very bad at all." Ah,something he has been kind of going through minus the children."I can in some ways understand what you're going through. They up in and leave when they feel it isn't right for them." Mint watched the mares expression making sure she wouldn't cry. "Maybe we are. We should be happy because some day far down the line we'll find something a bit better and someone who will enjoy us." He offered a smile to her. "I've had my sad times but I've decided weeping on it wouldn't help me get anywhere. So I have been enjoying the landscaping and semi traveling. Though i don't really travel far from home. You never know when mothers need you."

Bangil nodded her agreement to his statements about the swamps, it was nice to find someone who did not just see the algae, moss and dampness completely unappealing. Different was a sentiment on them that she could live with.
She wasn't overly surprised when he said he could relate, the despondent look she had noticed in him was one she knew well, not only from looking at her own reflection but in seeing it in the eyes of others to whom love had cast them aside. "It's a terrible thing to be sure...but then one must consider, if they stayed..but did not feel the same as us, would that be any better? Surely they would grow to resent us and be unhappy." She pointed out, though it was grim comfort. "I expect there is nothing one can do about such things but do as you have decided, pick up and try to move on. I have attempted such, but it is difficult some days. Perhaps I should try traveling more often." She added with a slight laugh. "Become an explorer..perhaps I would find treasure."

Mint sighed with a sigh of relief. Finally someone who understood exactly what he did.It was a terrible feeling that they both admitted to."You're right."He nodded slowly and looked at the mare as she spoke more."We're probably much better off without them if it didn't work the first time,or they just grew bored." Mint shrugged just a bit."Its much better now." "Traveling?"Mint thought about it."I think I could enjoy that, maybe even ask my sister if she could help look after mother."He thought about his sister and how long its been since he's seen her, really he hadn't seen much of the rest of his family either."Maybe traveling will give me a chance to find the rest of my family....Treasures too!"

Bangil found it rather sweet to hear that this stallion helped to look after his mother - oh sure her own children looked in on her from time to time but she could hardly call it being 'looked after'. "It's sweet that you look after your mother so, do you have a large family?" She asked with sincere curiosity. It was even more curious to hear that he wanted to search for some family, was his family large enough that members had wandered off and gotten out of touch? Her own was quite small when she really thought about it, at least until her children decided to settle down and have foals of their own.
"I don't really know where I would want to go to be honest, I used to travel a great deal when I was younger..not so much since I've had my foals, perhaps I would just let my hooves take me where they will."

Mint gave a soft smile to Bangil."Thank you,It is rather...large." He laughed. "It's growing larger and larger,I can't even keep up with it.Though we did have a time when we didn't have any new members." Mint nodded a bit and looked at her. His family did scatter and he never knew his grandmother and other family members."My grandfather had to leave his mate because she vanished.I don't know if she ever came back.I have never known his other children or their offspring."
He agreed that he didn't know where to go."We could give a couple places we've never been before?"He offered to her.

Bangil nodded as he spoke of his family. It sounded much like her own..although she had kept in contact with many there were several that had gone off to make their own lives and had not been heard from again. Once in a while she hoped nothing ill had come of them but there was no way to know and in the end she had decided not to dwell on it any longer. What point was there to doing so?
On to happier subject she gave a slight nod at his idea. "That would be lovely..I do so love to see knew things and I'm quite sure there are many things in the world worth seeing at least once. Someone once told me there are mountain somewhere that spew red liquid rock that burns...it sounds so strange and yet..interesting. And I have heard that there is a jungle somewhere with plants and flowers so lush and beautiful that once will never want to leave."
